Pictures gone from iPhoto 08

All of my pictures are gone. The info about each picture remains but the pictures themselves have disappeared. When I open iPhoto, it says it's rebuilding the thumbnail cache but nothing happens. I've tried rebuilding manually, nothing happens. Interestingly, a few of my pictures now reside on my husband's iPhoto site - they weren't put there by us! But it's only a few.
I'm a newbie, so keep your explanations simple!
thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Anything I should be paying attention to?
I suggest you backup the database file for the iPhoto Library, Library6.iPhoto, frequently. By that I mean after every import or after any organizational work performed in the library, i.e working on slideshows, books, creating new albums, etc. See the tip at the end of my signature below for a way to do that very easily, as easy as using the Save command (Command+S) in other applications.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Help! All pictures gone from iPhoto!

I opened iPhoto today and it said zero pictures... none, all gone! I did some hunting around, after catching my breath, and found a bunch of the numbered folders with pictures in them through the my "pictures" in the finder... but iPhoto will not show any. They were all there yesterday when I shutdown and first thing today... gone from the liblary, along with all my folders that they were orginized into! All I can do is open then one at a time now and that's no fun. Any ideas as to what is up????

    Hi artboy,
You can try launching iPhoto with the Option key held down and choose to open another library. Navigate to your library, highlight it and click "open" Hopefully it will open your library.
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do, or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to. If you click "choose" then you will get this window.
    Open library
Navigate to where the library is on your computer, highlight it, then clcik the "open" button.
If it doesn't open or still shows no photos you might have to create a new library and import the photos from the old.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "open" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!
If you have a recent backup of the entire iPhoto Library folder then drag the old iPhoto Library folder to the desktop and rename it iPhoto Library_old. Drag the backup iPhoto Library folder (make sure it is named iPhoto Library)
into the Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.

  • Pictures gone from iphoto

Suddenly, ALL MY PICTURES have disappeared from my iphoto app!  It shows no previous imports, no previous events, nothing!  HOW DO I GET MY PIX BACK???

What version of iPhoto and system are you using?  I take it you're able to open the library but don't see any events or photos, right? When viewed in the Finder how big is your iPhoto Library?

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, all my pictures are gone from iPhoto.  What happened?

This is very upsetting.  ALL my pictures are gone from iPhoto.  What happened, and how can I get them back?

Look in your user folder/Pictures. Is the Library there?
    Try rebuilding the library.

  • Pictures are gone from iPhoto

All of my pictures seem to be gone from iPhoto. I can see them as an icon when go to "open" in PhotoShop, but iPhoto has nothing in its library.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I turned on my macbook pro and ALL my libraries and albums are gone from iPhoto, any ideas

I turned on my macbook pro and ALL my libraries and albums are gone from iPhoto, any ideas
I already tried the hold down option command key and rebuild, didn't work
    HELP PLEASE
no I do not have a bckup

What size if the Library as indicated in the Finder?  If it's large enough to be holding your photos then your photos are probably still in there but the library is damaged.  If the tags you used indicate iLife 11 then try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
If the above falils to recover your photos continue with this:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Why does get-attachment 1aspx appear on pictures imported from Iphoto

Pictures imported from Iphoto  into Imovie not as clear as originals. There is a note with each picture ...get-attachment 1aspx. Could this be the reason? What does this message mean?

iPhoto shows you the image at full resolution. If the image is tiny then it's tiny.
You can magnify an image by 300%. In edit mode hold the option key and tap the 2 or 3 button.

  • Pictures disappear from iphoto

My newly downloaded pictures disappear from iphoto within 48 hours. Any advice?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Pictures gone from Ipad after connecting to Itunes

I was starting up the macpro after having put new harddisc in after breakdown. All my photos were on Ipad1. When connecting Ipad a message came: do you want to transfer pictures from Iphoto to Ipad, pictures on Ipad will be kept.   I agreed, but all the pictures were deleated from Ipad, and not transferred to Iphoto. Didn´t get that opportunity.
Can someone tell me how to get the pictures back on either Ipad or Iphoto? No file in garbage indicating photos.

    A little clarificationlease?

After connecting to ITunes IPad (gen 1) reverts to home page,
You mean connecting the iPad to iTunes on your computer or when you launch the iTunes app on the iPad?
it just completely shuts down.  Al my updates have been updated.  What could be the problem?.
Completely shuts down? You mean the iPad actually turns off? That's what "shuts down" means to me. The device powers off.
You could try closing all apps in the recents tray and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Albums gone from iphoto

I recently backed up everything to a USB flashdrive. Went to iphoto today (icon on desktop), no albums(600 pictures)
Found them on hard drive: (user name)-Documents-Pictures-iPhoto Library-Albums.
I could move a single jpeg onto iPhoto page.
I tried moving one of the albums folders into iPhoto open page, (got a green plus sign) but got an error message "couldn't create --etc." for each of the 30 jpegs.
What should I do? I need very explicit directions.

Nothing happens when I hold shift and option key while double clicking on iPhoto. I had imported one jpeg from within Picture folder to iPhoto..so application is working. BUT,
When I find my lost ipegs a picture opens in Preview. I can't move it to iPhoto. Message is Could not be imported (they may be an unrecognizible file type,...etc.
It is possible I moved the Picture folder when trying to condense and clean up stuff. So perhaps this is too complicated to solve this way. ??
Is there a way to tell me where the iPhoto Library should be?
    I have 2, one in /my name/Documents/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Albums (these open in Preview)
The other in/my name/Pictures/iPhoto Library (aliases)
At this point I would be glad to be able to import from Preview format to iPhoto.
    Thanks, Sr Citz

  • Pictures gone from Contacts

All my contact pictures are missing from my Contact App. They are still in my Address Book on my iMac and they show up on my iPad. I use MobileMe to sync.

Same here. I just noticed today that all of my contact photos are gone from my iPhone 4 contacts, but they are still on my iPad and iMac. I just turned off the MobileMe syncing on my iPhone and enabled the syncing, which downloaded all my contacts again after erasing the contacts on my iPhone. The pics are back, but not sure if they are going to stay.

  • Pictures gone from finder

I have made the photos icon disappear in a puff of smoke.
I could not 'undo' this move. It is gone from the finder window.
I was dragging it down into the dock, and then it disappered.
Does anyone know how to get it back into finder
    Thank you.

    Hi David!
The icons in the Sidebar, and also in the Dock, are merely Aliases, or Shortcuts, to the original folder or application, which is not affected, by the action of dragging off.
When you drag them off as you did, they will disappear, as you have seen.
The method that roam has posted will work to replace the Alias icon in the Sidebar.
When you drag the folder from your Home folder to the Sidebar, you must position it below the separator bar.
To put an Alias icon in the Dock, you can also open the folder where the application or folder resides, and position the cursor on the item, hold down on the mouse, drag the item to the Dock, and release the pressure on the mouse.
If the item is a folder, like your Pictures folder, drag it to the right of the separator bar.
If the item is an application, drag it to the left of the separator bar.
    Good Luck!

  • N-Up Printing Gone from iPhoto '08

I sure hope Apple brings this feature back but "N-Up" printing has been removed from iPhoto '08. It's a feature we used almost exclusively when printing from previous versions. I was able to tweak the size of the prints to get 16 on a page (we print on 13x19 paper) but when you use a custom size, the photos don't correctly size and definitely do not orient themselves correct (Portrait vs Landscape.)
I see this as a significant feature omission and I hope Apple adds it back in a maintenance release very soon.
    DM

This Apple support page for iPhoto 7 indicates that the contact sheet can be customized in a similar way to N-up:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iPhoto/7.0/en/6438.html
But the words "In edit print project view, drag the Columns slider to increase or decrease the number of columns" do not make any sense to me. There is no column slider available. I would like to print the contact sheet as 2 columns but there is no way I can find to do this.
I did find that the Settings button allows me to delete the file names from the contact sheet (or add dates, which is more useful for my purposes).

  • Pictures moved from iPhoto to iWeb don't look the same

When I move a photo album from iPhoto to an iWeb album page the photos are darker and more saturated. I would think the color space should be the same for both.
    Does anybody have an answer?
    thanks.

I was having this or a very similar problem a couple of updates ago here is what fixed it for me:

  • All of my pictures are gone from iPhoto after installing Yosemite..how do i get them back?

I have tried everything to get my pictures back after installing Yosemite on my laptop. Are they gone? Or is there a way to retrieve them?

Define "everything" because if you've tried everything then your last recourse is:
1 - restore your backup copy of your iPhoto Library created just prior to your Yosemite upgrade or
2 - Starting over from scratch with new library
