Pictures in two projects?

Hello,
It's taken me a little while to figure out how to organize my library and now that I've figured it out, I'm cleaning up the database and trying to make sure that the photos I want in a yearly project are all there (i.e., all pictures from 2011 in one project).  What I've noticed is that even though I thought that pictures were only able to be in one project in Aperture, I have the same images in two projects.  My question is, which one is the Master (I've tried the referencing feature and it often tells me there is no reference) so I can delete the same images in a different project.  Or can you tell me how to figure out if I indeed have duplicates in the library and that is why the same images is in one or more projects?
Many thanks.
lsb

Are the duplicates the photos that say copy or is that a different version?
That will depend on your naming scheme when you imported the duplicate. But by defaultversions of an image will have "version" in their names. And edited images will show a badge, if you enable badge overlays.
In the example above the second image (from left) is an edited image and has the edited badge in the lower right corner. The third image is an aditional version of the same image - called version two.
You can enable the Metadata display from the "View" menu - "View > Metadata Display " and customize them (or from many more places).

  • Can I have two projects open on Premiere Elements at the same time? (Elements 13 for Windows)

    Hi there.
Can I have two projects open on Premiere Elements at the same time?
The reason I wanna do this is because I've trimmed many hours of clips in one project (One timeline) and I want to start a new project where I have a "clean" timeline and can add clips from the
first project (Cut and paste). Or how do I bring a trimmed clip from one project into another in a easy way?
    Thanks
    -Dan-

Your question is in the Photoshop Elements forum.  There is another forum for Premier Elements and this will probably be moved.
That said, the answer is that Premier Elements has not be designed with the ability to cut and paste from one project to another.  The only "work around" is to "Publish&Share" to a best quality format that matches your project settings.  You can control the output clips with the "work area bars".  You can then add the new clip to the second project.   The output rendering process can, at least in theory, reduce the picture quality.  Depending on formats, settings and footage, it may not be noticeable.
There is a third party product called Clipmate that some say works, but not always with good results.

  • Two Projects Just Disappeared over the Holiday

When I leaft my computer befor the July 4th holiday I had two projects I was working on, now I don't have any!
    Working on FCP X 10.0.5
Project & Corisponding Event were located on external drive.  I'm using Event Manager X, and it's not seeing them either.  The Project folder is empty as well. I'm a proficent editor, and worked many jobs through this program - so this is really crazy - because there is no trace of them - just toally gone?
Any Idea?  I've already trashed prefs, did do anything.

ok thanks for the recommendation - tried it and still got a blank aperture library even though I show over 200GB of pictures on my external HD.
The aperture library which comes up when depressing the option key is the same blank library. It says created on 12/19 (which is when I created the original file) but it is blank (and I did not delete the library files)
Yes the HD was formatted for OSX, and yes I sent masters only ( no referenced files) from library A to the desktop, and then went from desktop to library B.
looks like I will have to start the transfer process all over again. not looking forward to it. At least, I still have all the original files.

  • Viewing picture from 2 Projects, How?

Seems I saw something about having 2 Projects open at once, but can't remember how. Is there any other way to do this picture comparison. I would like them both on my 2nd monitor.
    Thanks for the help.
    Mark

while you can show two projects side by side (select the first project and then option-click the second project), you can not display 2 images (one from project 1 and another from project 2) on your secondary screen for side-by-side comparison. the viewer (and secondary monitor) are always linked to the active project.
instead of showing two projects side by side (with "option"), you can also open several projects in tabs (selecting them with holding "command").

  • Dragging Picture Onto "New" project/worksurface, CS4

    Hi...
I'm trying to follow directions I got several days ago here to bring an image into a new file that's been sized and resolution set as desired in CS4. Here are the directions I have:
..."Open the...(picture you want to move onto the new picture). Select the Move tool and, holding down the shift key to keep it centered, drag the image into the frame of your new picture."
I'll call the "picture you want to move onto the new picture", picture "A" and the new picture, picture "B". My situation is that picture A is in iPhoto and picture B is a new blank project I've started in CS4 sized to 24 x 24 inches and 300 ppi. I've tried dragging picture A onto picture B two ways without success. In each case, I left clicked the Move tool in CS4 as directed. Then, in the first attempt, I opened iPhoto, dragged the iPhoto space out to the side somewhat, and attempted to drag the image(picture A) out of iPhoto by left clicking on it and holding down the left click until the cursor-holding-the-image was in picture B all the while holding down the shift key as directed. No luck. In the second attempt, I did a copy-and-paste of picture A to the desktop and then left clicked on it and drug it onto picture B all the while holding down the shift key as directed. No luck. Can anyone tell me how to accomplish this transfer and what I've been doing wrong?
    Thanks.

You can't drag images from iPhoto to Photoshop
Please open Picture A and Picture B both in Photoshop and then you can drag in your way
By the way, you can use Bridge to browse images, you can drag images to Photoshop from Bridge

  • How do you move pictures from one project/album/folder to a different one?

I have tried dragging a picture from one album within a project to a different album in the same project and a picture from one project to another project (specifically to a album in the different project), but have had no success.  I have looked through the Aperture Help pages and searched on "move picture", but had no success.  I'm sure there is a way to move pictures.  Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

It's _very_ important that you understand the difference between Projects and Albums:  specifically the difference in the relationship between an Image and a Project or an Album.  This little "Naming of the Parts" I posted has helped others with this non-intuitive issue.
Read it, try more dragging-and-dropping (if moving is indeed what you want to do), and post back with specific questions (e.g.: I did X, I expected Y, I got Z).

  • HT2498 If I use camera window to download my pictures to my computer, and then I copy and paste the pictures to iPhoto. Would I be ending up having the same pictures in two different files in my computer, and so wasting space in my hard drive?

I recently bought a canon camera. The instructions of the camara recommend to use the canon software (camara window) to download pictures to my computer.  I would like to have my pictures in i-photo because it syncs them to my ipad.
I want to download the pictures from my camera to camara window, and then drag and drop the pictures to i-photo. If I keep my pictures in both programs would I be wasting space in my computer hard drive by having the same pictures in two different files?

    Yes.
Ignore the Canon software. It gains you nothing and adds complexity. Just use iPhoto for the lot.

  • Split Project in two Projects

In one of my projects there are about 2000 pics made in two different countries. Because in Places view I always see both countries on the map, I decided to split the Project in two Projects - one for each country. How can I do this without losing the Places assignments? Thanks!

Each Image in your Library carries its own Places assignment.  You can move any Image into any Project and it will retain its specific Places information.
All you need to do is select all of the Images you want to put in your new Project, and "File→New→Project" w. "Move selected items to new project" checked.
There are several ways to select the Images for just one or your two countries.  If you need suggestions, post back (the best way depends a bit on your use of Places and other metadata).
Generally, users have found Aperture works better with Projects kept to fewer than 1,000 Images.  This was the case when 3.0 first came out -- I haven't tested any later versions, as I stick with the generally recommended "One Project for each out-in-the-world Shoot" and I rarely bring back more than 500 exposures per shoot.
(For what it's worth -- the human world had a very different level of material sophistication -- Ansel Adams took 12 plates with him for a day's shooting expedition in Yosemite.  Twelve shots for the day, including mis-takes.)

  • Dividing a project into two projects

How do I divide my project into two projects so that I can burn it to a DVD? I have 2hrs 40 mins and this is too long. thanks!

Go to the Project Library View and select your project.
Then FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT and give the duplicate a name like "your name - part 1".
Then duplicate it again and give the duplicate a name like "your name - part 2"
Now you can open "part 1" as a project and delete everything that is in part 2.
Open "part 2" as a project and delete everything that is in part 1.

  • Linking Two projects in oracle projects

    Dears,
I need to know how it's possible to link two projects together in one project?!
    Regards,,
    Ahmed Fazary

    Hi,
Are you expecting project program related functionality. A program is a group of related projects linked together in a hierarchy. If you define the project as program then u can link multiple project under the program.

  • Solution Directory----Merging two projects in Solution

    Dear Team,
I am working in Sol Man 4.0 SP 13.
we have created two projects in Sol Man & we have done our entire implementation thro Sol Man. Now the two projects are gone live.
Now we want to maintain "Solution Directory" merging these two projects.
Please guide me, what are all the primary inputs i have to collect from the customer in order to start this activity?
Note: I believe, based on the "Solution Directory" only our Business Process Monitoring works. Is it correct?
any valuable input will be very much appreciated
    Thanks
    Senthil

Whilst my instructions are lengthy, that is to give a full explanation of all the ins and outs. In your case the work will be little more than creating a parent and setting up your two existing projects as children.
It's a lot easier than trying to have one source project.

  • Scanning Pictures for HD Project I Need Advice

I am about to *Scan Pictures for HD Project* I Need Advice. The scanner is a HP Scanjet G4050 my questions are:
1: At what resolution do I scan these pictures _+(300 or highest dpi available)+_
2: What color choice is necessary *(RGB vs CMYK)*
3: Can you please suggest points for creating a backdrop for the pictures (various sizes) in the Timeline
    Thanks in advance

Scan the picture like you normally would. If the vertical resolution is 1080, you are fine. Don't worry about the 1280 width as black will be in that area not taken up with the photo. That part won't matter if it isn't 1280 if it is a vertical picture. If you don't have at least 1080 high, you might want to re-scan at a higher resolution. If you have it say, 2000 pixels high really no big deal except you don't need it that high and all that extra size slows down your system. If you want it at a lower resolution after you scan go into Photoshop->Image->Image size. Be sure and check "Constrain Proportions" before you change the dimensions in the top box for the height (where you are best using the units as pixels) That way the picture will stay in proportion. Don't use this second method to 'add' more pixels as the quality suffers when you go up this way. Rescan if you want MORE pixels.
All the above is talking about vertical pictures. If you have a really wide photo that is not very tall, use the same principle but keep the width constant. For example let's say you have a 2x6 inch photo. Make sure the width is at least 1280 pixels. Don't worry that the height will be less than 1080 because black will take up that space.
If you are going to do any zoom in and/or panning across a picture, you'll need to make sure it has more than the minimum pixels. For me a little goes a long way, so I zoom in slowly maybe 10-15%.

When I downloaded the update to 10.9.4 on my Macbook, I lost the photos in my two projects in iPhoto. Is there a way to retrieve them?

I have just found out that my Mac doesn't back up to iCloud.  So, have enabled Time Machine.  I didn't realise I had to setup the backups - thought they were automatic in the iCloud.  Thanks for your help
