Pictures lose quality and audio in a video clip starts to clip after render

I enjoy doing various random small projects with final cut studio, but there are a few problems I am still having in doing so. One is I record a local basketball league's games and make highlight videos out of them. Another is I like to convert dvds into files and make favorite quote montages or edit movies to have clean versions for the kids. I do not have professional equipment, yet. Final Cut was the first step I chose to take to upgrade. So I'm sure most of the stuff I use is not the greatest choice, but I'm just trying to get the best out of what I have. And when I have problems that I know are bad, I need to find out how to fix them.
Problem with basketball highlights:
I am not sure which is the best format to convert the video to in Final Cut that would make it work the best. Also a problem importing pictures.
The camera I use to record is a Sony Handycam Exmor HDR-XR100. I am confused about importing in Final Cut so I usually import through imovie, which saves the files as .mov and then I go to the finder and put them in Final Cut. Clicking on more info shows me a 20 minute clip (of basketball in this case) is 14.29gb, quicktime movie, 1440 X 1080 dimensions, apple intermediate codec, integer (little endian), timecode, channel count: 2, total bit rate: 102, 385. When I record with the camera I usually turn off the button 'easy mode', which shows on the screen a better quality image going from HD to HDHQ and 5.1 surround sound. Sometimes the render times are ridiculously long for small files and the quality decreases or what not so I was just wondering if there is a good extension to use or format that would be better for use in final cut. Obviously some extensions don't work in final cut, but the most familiar I've used are .mov and .avi (though I don't use avi anymore because I've been told it's not the greatest idea)
Another recent problem I'm having is with pictures in these highlight videos. When I record basketball, I like to record and show everyone their stats along with the video at the end of each game. So I create an excel document with all the teams and numbers and then save it as a .pdf file or picture to load into final cut and add to the video at the end of each game highlights. A similar thing happens though, when I load it in the browser from there the quality is great in the viewer. As soon as I load it in the timeline, the quality drops drastically and I can't even read the numbers in the viewer or canvas. When I took a final cut training class I remember hearing something about a button that makes final cut work faster by reducing the quality of the media it's displaying, but doesn't affect the output. I was wondering if maybe there is a simple button that I have set wrong and maybe that is the reason this is happening, or maybe I just am making it a bad choice of extension again I don't know.
Problem with video files not recorded by me:
Other times I don't record from my own camera say if I want to make a movie montage of all my favorite movie lines/quotes. I would like to edit movies as well to make them clean for my kids to watch. In any case, I convert the dvd to a file on my computer, usually multiple extensions and just use the one that works and also has the best quality, and then load it to final cut. (Is there a program in Final Cut Studio that would be better for this? Right now I use iSkysoft Media Converter to convert these files). As soon as I load it to the timeline and render it, the audio skips like a hiccup throughout the movie. This is when I notice the skipping is only really audible in the audio when music starts to play. I thought that was kind of weird. I can't pick it up as much when there is just dialogue, but when a song comes on or a scene begins with music it makes the entire audio sound bad.
So maybe the problem isn't what extension the file is and I need to look at more details such as dimensions I'm guessing. If you have any examples I would appreciate it. I am sorry I am so difficult haha.
Thanks again for all you're input and help. What goes around comes around and I really try to do the best I can in everything I undertake. I really appreciate it.

I called it "making a montage of my favorite movie clips." It is what it is. Just how I said it. I do stand up impressions part time and sometimes, believe it or not i get recorded, or I record myself and "make a montage of all my favorite movie clips" or scenes from a movie or anything for that matter. So as illegal as that is I apologize that you want to monitor that stuff.
So lets step out of our assumptive sheriff shoes and stop hazardly guessing at anything that you would disprove of. Everyone else has been very helpful. Besides, all these questions centralize around a basketball highlight video I am making for a coach, that I myself recorded and own the copyright to, to be specific and hopefully clarify your hunch.
As a video editor you also often receive footage with numerous formats depending on who you're working with. Not everything is an illegal transaction that you assume it to be. Thanks

  • Matched presets-but poor video quality and audio-PE9

I have posted a few threads like this before, but the problem has not been resolved. I have matched my 1920x1080 24p (Panasonic HDC-TM900) footage to the correct presets when I start a new project. When I play the clips in the timeline the quality is variable and often poor, but when I pause the video the still frame normally has high quality. Audio also sometimes cuts out. I have the MPEG2 codec installed so I really do not know what the problem is. Any help would be appreciated

Which project settings did you select, L3?
And which format did you shoot your video in? That cam shoots in several modes.
If you selected the correct project settings, there should not be a red line above your clips on your timeline? Is this the case in your situation?
If you are seeing a red line, then your video needs to be rendered. (Press Enter. When the rendering is done, the red line will be green and your video will play much more smoothly.)
However, if your project settings match your video specs, there will not be  a red line above the clips until you add effects or transitions to them.
If you are shooting in 24p, that could be your problem. As you've seen, there is no project setting for 1920x1080 24p. Or for 50p or 60p, for that matter.
You must shoot your video in 50i (PAL) or 60i (NTSC) in order to successfully edit this video in Premiere Elements 9.

  • Pictures disappeared, titles and audio still play

    Hello Forum,
I made a slideshow in iMovie 09 of pictures from my vacation and specially fitted songs and titles into it. When I had finished, I clicked on the Optimize Video (Large) choice in the File menu, thinking it would make my video better. When the optimization had finished, I tried to play the movie, but now instead of seeing the pictures, audio, and text put together, all I see is a black screen along with text and audio, and there is no option to undo optimization. This problem persists even in both full screen mode and after the project had been prepared to be exported into iDVD. The strange thing is that all of the pictures are still present in the project pane, but when I try to play the movie it just won't show them. I don't want to have to restart because I've put so much work into this. Could somebody help me solve this problem?
    Thanks,

  • Iphone 5S IOS8 - quality of  audio when taking video?

The biggest disappointment with the 5S was the TERRIBLY distorted audio when taking videos of live music or loud events.  The 4S didn't feature the front mic and therefor sound was passing by perpendicular to the mic and it would not be as "hot" of a signal.
I have not one but two external mice I use when I plan*** on taking video but living in a city with tons of music I am not always prepared with an external mic.  Taking video with IOS7 with the 5S is useless if the audio source is above 85db or so.
Can anyone who has upgraded IOS on the 5S confirm that they have corrected the software for the mic sensitivity for a 5S?  My buddy has the 6 and his live videos of music do NOT distort.
    Thanks!

    Hello AudioArchist,
Does the issue of recording videos still not get any sounds? If so, take a look at the article below to troubleshoot the issue further. Now it may be hard to give the exact reason why that happened, but the article should assist with getting it fixed.

  • Prior to installing iOS 6 on my iPhone 4, I could stream video and audio via "Air Video" and "Stream to Me" from my PC, to my TV via a HDMI adapter. Now I can only get video and no audio.

I have been able to stream, via wi-fi, TV shows, movies and music from my laptop through a HDMI adapter via my iPhone 4, to my television. I use mainly "Air Video" but also use "Stream to Me", both with the same results. Since the update to iOS6 this is not possible. I can still get video but now no audio. Help me!

I too am having this very problem.  I have an iPhone 4S that is less than one year old.  Prior to updating my iOS firmware, I was able to record and transfer video to my PC and view it with a variety of programs without any modifications.  Since updating the firmware, all videos that have been taken are not viewable on my PC.  I can hear the audio associated with the video, but the video is blank.  I can transfer the file off my phone using the Windows transfer tool.  Then sync the video back to my phone and it works just fine.  I tried emailing the video to myself, that did not work.  I rebooted my computer, no luck.  I reinstalled QuickTime, still isn't working.  I can still watch the videos that were made with iOS 5.1.1 but nothing made with iOS 6.
I have been successful with the following procedure:  Once the video is transfered from the phone to my PC, I change the extension from .MOV to .MPG and this makes the video viewable with Windows Media Player; however, if the video is shot in a portrait orientation, it displays sideways in WMP as a landscape orientation.  I have been able to then run the video through Microsofts MovieMaker program to right the video 90 degrees but the image comes out a little squatty like it's out of scale.  In either case, it serves the purpose and I can export it to another .MPG format that I can then run through Sony Vegas and edit as I see fit.  While it works, this is a huge hassle and I shouldn't have to do it.
Does anyone know of anything that is working?  Are there new codecs somewhere that windows users need to get a hold of?

  • IMovie 8 - Audio but no video, poor performance, wrong clips play

Wow, this thing is a real stinker, right out of the box. Running into all kinds of problems with the new but definitely not improved iMovie 8. What a shame, too. It is as though this was rushed out before the bugs were ironed out, because the problems in this thing are pretty glaring if you use it for more than a few minutes.
    1) Video does not play in the preview window. Quite frequently, I get this application into a state in which the audio plays just fine, but the video will not play in the preview window. I usually have to quit the application. Often I will see nothing but a corrupted image in the preview window, while the audio plays. Sometimes even audio does not play. Houston, we have a problem.
    2) Sometimes video just doesn't play AT ALL. I had a movie project that I had edited, scored, titled, etc. I came back to this project a few days later, and just wanted to play this full screen. Upon clicking on the play, OR the play-full-screen button, nothing happens.
    3) With multiple projects in the browser, sometimes selecting a different project does not actually change the project internally. The title of the window stays with that of the former project. The edited video window changes to the new project. But playing what appears to be the new video results in the audio of the former video playing, and no video appearing in the preview.
    4) *** is with .Mac upload? Horribly slow to the point of frequent failure. What's up with this? I had the thing actually STALL this morning on an upload of a pretty small movie file.. the time started as 40 minutes; when I came back a bit later, it was up to 700 minutes. Looking at network activity, I was seeing a few bytes here and there going back and forth, but no large transfers. I was able to do an upload to .Mac from iWeb immediately after. Uploading to YouTube is way faster than .Mac upload. Come on, Apple, this .Mac service has been a dog for years.
I could go on, but I just get frustrated and angry.
My setup is pretty robust to blame this on low horsepower: 2.8 GHz iMac with 24", 2 Gigs of RAM, plenty of HD. Video has been imported from an old ZR20 by Canon... never had issues before. And indeed, the same video does sometimes play. But more often than not, it fails.
Any ideas? Anyone else seeing this?
    Skip

I seem to be having the same problem. I'm running a mac mini and I have like 5 photos, 1 song, and 2 movie clips (not a lot of stuff) in the movie, and when i go to preview it... I see the pictures, and hear the music... but no video.

  • Adobe premiere elements 10  Quality and audio issues

Im using adobe premiere elements 10 and im trying to edit my videos that i got form the elgato ive allays had no problems until two days ago when i import a video to work on it the quality goes to **** and the audio gets messed up  and i when i check the video on elgato its perfect  so something is going wrong and i need your help to fix it.

    op c
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running? And, what video card/graphics card does this computer use? NVIDIA GeForce?
If so, stop and let us know.
From what I have read, if you are using Elgato Video Capture, you are probably working on a Mac computer capturing H.264 or MPEG-4 640 x 480 with AAC audio. Is that correct? If so, what is the file extension of the capture that you put on the Premiere Elements 10 Mac Timeline?
Have you changed any of the default settings for Elgato Video Capture under its preferences?
How does this recent bad video's properties compare with others from the good video with which you had no problems?
What is the project preset that you are setting in either case?
Can you still bring the "good" Elgato captures into a Premiere Elements 10 Mac project and  they are still "good" while the recent ones on that
same Timeline look not so good?

  • Output to Blu-Ray and Audio from Gaming videos.

Just a simple questions, does premiere pro allow output as Blu-Ray. I have a series of home movies, I want to produce as Blue-Ray and all I can find is only DVD publishing.
On another issue, I am trying to create a video of online gaming that I play and the clan I belong to play to promote the clan, I have some footage from Arma 3, War Thunder, however with my Rust game the audio is very slow. How do I correct this,  Would the video resolution affect the audio. I use Bandicam to capture my online gaming footage which is outputted as AVI file.  This plays well in Windows Media Player, Realplayer, and PowerDirector (Does Blu-Ray 3D).  I have been told by quite a few clan members that premiere pro was a good video editing software so I wanted to try and see for myself seeing I have a complete Creative cloud Subscription.
    Video informations is as follows:
    codec MPEG 1   Resolution: 1912 x1060 @ 30fps
Audio is MPEG -1 Layer 2 48000Hz @192 kbps Monophonic
    Codecs are installed.
The audio, almost sound as thought I am speaking in game in slow motions,  I have tried to increase the speed, got as far as 500% which is still too slow.  I am new Premiere Pro.
It would be greatly appreciated if someone could assist me with this.

Premiere Pro BY ITSELF will not create DVD or BluRay... you may export files for authoring in EncoreCS6, which is a separate download... go to the bottom of page #5 at The PPro/Encore tutorial list http://forums.adobe.com/message/2276578 for more information on using PProCC with EncoreCS6

  • MixDown: Too Quiet, Loses Quality, and Overexaggerates Panning/Bass

I'm having a lot of problems with mixing down my songs from GarageBand into iTunes. Here's the problem:
In GarageBand I get everything so it sounds perfect. However, when I mixdown the file to iTunes it becomes very quiet, loses much of the "umpf" that it had in GarageBand, and overexaggerates the panning and bass.
I've been able to compensate for the panning by simply under panning in GarageBand. I've not yet been able to solve the other problems.
Mixed songs are always at a lower level than a typical CD or mp3. When I try and boost the sound in GarageBand I run into peaking problems and it sounds even worse (distorted). In addition to being quieter they lose much of their presence and umpf as well as overexaggerating the bass.
It's a real pain because none of this is evident in GarageBand, so it's only after recording and mixing down that I find out it sounds bad. The bass is especially bad -- it's fine in the GarageBand mix and then is completely overblown in mp3.
Any and all suggestions would be most welcome.

hi there- i'm sure i'm not as helpful as some of the guys here who answered my questions, but i'll say a couple of things, if i may.
check EVERYTHING in your iTunes preferences file. then double check to make sure you're importing at the levels you prefer. you can set how you want it imported, as in what kind of file, mp3< AIFF, various other files types, and also the bit rate, so make sure that looks cool. double check there's no added eq on your itunes program, you may have the equalizer set to a curve and not know it.
i had a panning problem that i endured for about 4 days and night and lost mucho hair, but it got solved. it ended up being the sound enhancement box got checked. who knew ? good luck........

  • Under OS X 10.8 and Bento 4.1.1: During work on "Sales Funnel" Bento crashed and i'm not able to start it again (after restarting the intro-frame comes up and it crashes again)

the problem indicates an error in "Sales Funnel" (a predefinded table - downloadable from Bento-portal) : How can i start Bento without attaching "Sales Funnel")?

That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots  and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • How to link video and audio channels of multiple clips

Importing iMovie08 sequence via XML ends up with unlinked video and audio channel (only one of the stereo channels; see other post).
It is possible to link each clips audio and video track individualy.
Is there a way to do it in batch mode for all the clips in de timeline??

    Dennis Connors wrote:
    1. After selecting the in points on main audio and one of two video tracks, the "merge clips" is greyed. Yes,in case you're wondering, the audio is on the HD.
Your use of language is confusing me I'm afraid. You opened the AIFF file and set an IN then opened a QuickTime movie and set and IN and then with them both selected in the Browser (and the Browser the active window) that you cannot select Modify->Merge Clips... ?
I wasn't wondering anything about your audio, but now I'm wondering "What does 'the audio is on the HD' mean?"
    2. The other issue is that the starting point is silent, so the only I know how to find the actual beginning is by counting frames back from the first sound. Is that what I have to do? Is would seem to me that there must be a "marker" that's not and "in" or "out" that will allow me to merge the tracks. No?
If you set an IN point in two clips you can merge them using the Merge Clips... command with the in points option. The IN points you choose can be anywhere and for anything. They can be where the clapper hits and sounds, they can be where a drum stick hits a cymbal, they can be where someone is clapping, they can be where a body falls from a building onto the sidewalk... Anything that helps you sync the sound with picture.
