Pictures not showing up in Messages (Macbook)

When anyone sends me a picture through iMessage, it is not loading on my Macbook. It will display a bubble that says IMG_### (for example, IMG_280). When I click on it the following pops up
Any ideas how to fix this?
I just updated to Yosemite, but it was doing this before I updated also.

I'm having the same issue. I reported it back when Yosemite was in public beta but I figured it may be taken care of with the official release but it hasn't. It's quite annoying since I need to open now my iPhone or iPad to see the picture sent :-( but it seems not everybody is having this problem, I tried sending a picture to a friend and he says it looks fine in his Macbook while in mine shows as IMG_XXXX so hopefully someone can figure it out.
So far I've tracked it down to images sent from iOS Devices, if I send the image from Messages on Yosemite it goes through fine, but I don't know why the other ones don't

I noticed a bug/mistake in the text-messages section in the hub.
When you are writing text message, contact pictures in the top left corner are showing only
for some contacts.
I don't know whats the reason for this.
Does anybody have this issue also - or does anybody know a solution?

Thanks for your feedback, do these contacts have pictures saved in the contacts profile? Or is the contacts picture linked from a social media account for example Twitter or Facebook?

Emoji pictures not showing in received messages??

How do I get other people's emoticons to show as pictures rather than punctuation symbols?? I have Emoji and they show as pictures when I send them but not when I receive them from other iPhones. Please help its driving me nuts!

Why would they?
Do you have Automatic downloads enabled? Note this only works for items purchased after it is enabled.

Purchased a song from iTunes on my iPad but its not showing up on my MacBook Pro? When I purchase on my Mac it always shows up. Checked. Can't download again from recent downloads and I tried to purchase again just to see and it wants to charge me.

Pictures not showing up, when uploaded?

Hey I have a website www.anchorstudios.ca. Anyways I have been using it for quite awhile for our business. Lately we have had problems with certain pages in our websites. For whatever reason instead of a picture there would be a question mark there. Anyways when I go back into Iweb it looks normal. I try uploading again, and it is still not there. I have tried switching pictures, which either made that picture not show up, or it made different pictures not work. Sometimes there are also problems with the buttons. I also tried deleting the whole page and making a different one? Anybody who has had problems and any success getting rid of this please let me know. Here is the page we have the most problems with:

Darryl ~ If you haven't already done so recently, in iWeb choose +File > Publish All to .Mac+ and then, in a browser, view those pages which previously had photos missing.
If that didn't help, it may be a system problem...
Quit iWeb and in +Applications > Utilities >+ double-click on +Disk Utility+. In the column on the left, click on +Macintosh HD+. Click on the +First Aid+ tab then on +Repair Disk Permissions+. When that has finished just note whether or not many permissions were reported & repaired. Now restart iWeb and choose +File > Publish All to .Mac+. Then, in a browser, view those pages which previously had photos missing.
If that didn't help, quit iWeb and in +Library > Preferences+ look for a file called either:
com.apple.iWeb.preferences.plist
or:
com.apple.iWeb.plist
Drag that file to the Trash. Restart iWeb (it will automatically create a "clean" plist file) and choose +File > Publish All to .Mac+. Then, in a browser, view those pages which previously had photos missing.

My Photo Not Showing Up in Messages

My photo does not show beside my texts in Messages on my Mac. Only a shadow of a generic person in a rectangle is there. I can see the photos of others who write me, though. I have my photo in Contacts and it does show up in Mail, but not in Messages. My photo also shows up in IMessage on the iPad.
Why is my photo not showing up in Messages and how could I make it visible? Thanks.

Your Pic is set if you have Buddy list set up/logged in.
Enable the Bonjour account if you do not have Jabber, AIM or Yahoo IDs set up in Messages.
Click on the current Buddy Pic.
You may find it has pulled the Pic from the My Card in the Contacts app (Formerly the Address Book)
In turn this may be picking up on the System Preferences > User and Groups > your account Login pic.
That is to say when you set up the (Mac User) Account it asked you to create/chose a pic from the Login Screen.
Later the process of setting up an Accounts asked for details that create the Contacts/Address Book Card and the Login in pic is dragged across.
AS you then get to set up Messages (Or iChat) then the My Card pic is pulled through.
All three spots can be changed independently of each other.
Some of the Recent Items can be from either of the others.
This is my Buddy list pic and th "Recents" I have.
The Zebra and head in "teeth" pics are from some testing I did with Pics in the Contacts > My Card options rather than Messages.
Finally once you have a pic linked to Messages then it also show up at your end for the Chat window for iMessages (as well as for you in AIM or Jabber)
NOTE
In AIM and Jabber (Or Yahoo) your Pic is Broadcast and is what you Buddy sees next to your Name (They can override this though)
In iMessages though your pic is not sent and your Buddy's Contacts app supplies whatever pic they have for you. (As yours does for them)

When using spotlight search on my 5s it will not show past text messages that haven't even been deleted even if I type a specific word that I know is in a message I want to search for. I have message search turned on in the spotlight settings.

When using spotlight search my phone will not show all text messages with a common word even though I have not deleted any messages from my phone and I have the message search turned on in settings under spotlight search. The search only shows the messages that are recent within the past day or so. Why won't it show the other messages when I search for them even using a specific word that I know was in the message I'm searching for.

It sounds like you are not getting notifications for new text messages that are coming in, and you must manually check the app. I recommend checking the Notification settings to see if they are configured correctly:

iOS apps can provide three types of notifications:
Sounds: An audible alert plays.
Alerts/Banners: An alert or banner appears on the screen.
Badges: An image or number appears on the application icon.

if you receive an imessage not on any internet connection you will receive it as a sms (green) and yes it counts toward your texting plan

Apple mail not showing all the messages?

In Apple mail, for my icloud account, I have some mailboxes which show the wrong number of messages, it shows too few.
As an example, a mailbox contains 150 messages, but apple mail reports there are only 146.
I rebuilt the mailbox and let apple mail do its thing. In the activity window I can see there are 150 messages. Yet, once apple mail has finished rebuilding the mailbox, it still tells me there are 146 messages. What's going wrong? Why would apple mail not show all the messages while in the activity window it clearly shows it knows there are 150?

Solved!
This was too weird to be real. Apple mail does not show messages it believes to be duplicates, and buy, does it make big mistakes in deciding what are duplicate messages and what not! Some of my mailboxes had over 100 "duplicates" not showing according to apple mail.
I found a solution thanks to this topic:

does yield an error in 10.8.2 ( Domain (com.apple.mail) not found. Defaults have not been changed. )
defaults write com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates -bool true

If AT&T e-mail says it is unlocked, then believe it is so. Insert non-AT&T SIM inside and after backing up restore in iTunes again. Unlock gets attached.
You can check the status of the unlock request on AT&T web-site.

Agreed! This feature was very useful. If you find out how to turn it on, please let me know.
Apple, there is plenty of room in the window header all the way across on both sides of the word "Inbox". It's important to know many messages are in the Inbox. It provides a progress meter when you're cleaning out mail and striving for inbox zero.

Bookmarks on my iPad not showing up on my MacBook

My bookmarks from my MacBook show up on my iPad, however my bookmarks from my iPad do not show up on my MacBook.
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? What setting I have missed?

Omro, yes it is possible that the bookmarks which are not currently on both devices could be lost if you did that. Since Apple does not allow 3rd-party apps to access Safari bookmarks on the iPad, the only solution, if it works, would be to back up your iPad to your Mac before doing as Carolyn recommended, so that you can restore them back if disaster occurs. But I've never done that myself. I'm just speculating that it seems like it should work.
But is it possible that you were expecting bookmarks changes to appear instantly? As of yesterday, I found that iCloud is now pushing bookmarks changes on a 15-minute cycle. Check those bookmarks again. Maybe they have "arrived".
One possible cause of this problem is if you are using a third-party bookmarks syncing service on your Mac which has not been rewritten for compatibility with iCloud.

Photos taken on My I Phone 6 do not show up ON my Macbook Pro both on I cloud

I have my I phone 6 with IOS 8.3. Then I have my Macbook Pro w/Retina Display 2014 with 10.10.3 with Photos. I migrated my I Photo Library to Photos and that went well. However since I updated both my I Phone and Macbook pro, Pictures I take on my I Phone 6 do not show automatically up in Photos on my Macbook Pro. Both my I Phone 6 and Macbook pro are signed into I cloud for photos. The pictures I take on my I Phone 6 show up in the Icloud photos but not in Photos on my Macbook Pro. Am I wrong to assume that when I take photos on my I Phone 6 they will show up on my Macbook pro in Photos? Do I still need to hardwire to the Macbook and import my photos off my I phone? Is there a setting I have not turned on, I have looked I do not think I have missed a setting anywhere? Is there a problem with IOS 8.3 or OS X 10.01.3? Just wondering what is up. Anyone else having this issue?

The music being available for redownload has only been possible for a few months. Before this you could not redownload. The owners of the rights to the ringtones do not allow itunes to provide this feature. hopefully they will at some point.
Regardless, you should always maintain a backup.
