  • Strange start up screen

Any ideas why I am getting this strange start up screen. After this everything seems to load and behave as normal.
Started up from AHT disc and the options screen was also split into quarters.
Thanks in advance for any resolutions.

The image didn't come in.  Use this tip as a guideline:
How to post an image in Apple Support Communities
When AHT fails to fix a problem, it is typically hardware related.
    The 2010 Mac Mini http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/specs/mac-mini-core-2-duo-2.4-mid -2010-specs.html
Supported HDMI and mini-Displayport with audio.  If the display you are connecting to is VGA, that's analog, and might not have the proper adapter to see whats coming out of the digital signal of the Mac Mini's ports.   HDMI is more designed for TVs, and Mini-Displayport is more designed for computer screens.
TVs usually are designated 1080p, 740p, 740i, 480p, and 480i, and the setting by the TV remote controls as much of the display as the computer.    So verify if using a TV, that the display is matched up with what the computer thinks it is.   DisplayConfigX and SwitchResX can help in resolution issues with TVs on Macs and give you more pixel level control than some TVs support.  On VGA adapters 4:3 ratios are typically the only ones supported.  DVI is far better supported.

  • Windows 7 drive not showing up in start-up screen

So as you can see the picture on top, it's a picture of my bootcamp and I have installed windows 7 but the problem in here is that my drive of windows 7 in the start-up screen (when you press alt/option when the computer turns on) would not show and I tried installing my windows for about 7 times again and again becuase it would not work does anybody have the same problem or got through this problem? please help

yeah, I had a feeling it might be Tuxera causing it, wanted to see if there was another solution other than uninstalling it.
I tried disabling it in the pref pane and that didn't fix the issue, so I'm assuming it would need to be uninstalled.
As long as I am able to boot into Windows when needed (which isn't very often), I'm not too concerned.  Its a little inconvenient to have to hold Option during startup to do it, but it works.
Whats annoying too is that when using BootCamp control panel in Windows to restart into OSX, it boots into the emergency partition for Lion instead of Lion.  So, guess holding Option at startup is the only option both ways!
    Thanks for the help.

  • Strange Black Blob on the screen

    Hello,
I have an Ipod Nano 5G. Recently A strange black blob started appearing on my screen. It obscures the screen behind where it is, and it sometimes changes places randomly, but only horizontally. Also, I can make it walk by pressing it lightly, but it doesn't leave the screen. If I watch it from a sharp angle it shines. If the screen is off, there are some strange colors around where it is.
The warranty is already gone, and it doesn't bother me enough for me to pay to fix it. Also, I would like more to understand what that is than to fix it.

Since the 5th Generation Nano was released last September how could your 1 year warranty be expired?
What you are seeing is damage from a broken LCD screen. It was most likely flexed (like sitting down with it in your front pocket) or dropped, or something dropped on it.
Your warranty is void if it is due to accidental damage.

  • Very Strange Rendition of the "Blue Screen" Problems

So I'm familiar with some of the blue screen freezes, but the problems that I am encountering are very very strange, so let me start:
Two computers are affected: a MacBook Pro and an Aluminum iMac. Both computers are running Leopard.
    The MacBook Pro:
A few days ago, it crashed to the blue screen. Turned the machine off and powered it back on. The computer goes to the gray apple screen, then to the blue screen. Once at the blue screen, it does this: Blue screen for a few seconds -> progress indicator spins for a few seconds and disappears -> Mouse shows up for a few seconds and disappears -> Blue screen -> Progress indicator -> Mouse. It cycles like this indefinitely. I tried deleting the loginwindow preferences. I also tried deleting application enhancer preferences, no luck...
    The iMac:
Started up fine. After a few minutes of not using the machine, it will go to the blue screen. Turn machine off and it starts again. Here's where it gets strange: If you start up with safe mode, the iMac exhibits the blue screen cycle on login that the MacBook Pro experiences. Without safemode, it started. So, I tried creating a new user account to see if it was user preferences, and up on doing that, now the iMac gets hung up on the blue screen login cycle just like the MacBook Pro with or without safe mode.
    So... weird/misc. parts:
Two machines that have been running leopard for some time, no recent upgrades.
Problems starting happening at around the same time.
Computers linked on LAN and Time Capsule.
    Both computers using MobileMe.
    I'm stuck - any ideas?!?!

    Some additional thoughts...
the MacBook Pro did not have automatic login and had the problems. The iMac did have automatic login and did not have the problems. When automatic login was disabled on the iMac, it did have the problems. When the iMac used safemode, which disables automatic login, it had the problems also.
So... clearly something with the login window is messed up... but I tried deleting the login window preferences with no avail. Not sure what this means, but interesting I suppose.

  • Strange marks on Curve 8900 screen

    Hi folks,
I hope someone can help me out. I have a new blackberry 8900 javelin (have like 4 months of use) and some strange marks appeared on the screen. They are small marks, but they don't disappear. I had the same problem with my last curve 8900 (I had 3 8900 models) but last time, the marks disappeared in a few days. Those on mine are not disappearing. I know it's not a liquid crystal leak, it's a malfunction or something, because the mark had a different shape in a few days ago. Here are some pictures i took to show the problem.
hope someone can help me out!
    thanks guys!

    Hey eduardopfm,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Those marks are definitely hardware/lcd screen related.  I would suggest contacting your network service provider or point of sale for repair options as this is not software related.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • Macbook slow to start-up and displays unusual start-up screen

    Hey everyone,
For the last week or so my Macbook has been behaving strangely when I start it up from sleep: it displays the screen you would normally get after your battery has fully emptied and you have just powered up your computer again (I'm not 100% sure if that makes total sense..it's the screen with the white bars on the bottom that slowly fill up before it takes you to your login screen) This only happens when my Macbook has run out of charge and automatically goes to sleep and then I plug it in and power it up again, which is why I'm concerned because my computer is plugged in when this happens + the battery is fully charged. Also, the computer is very slow to start up and takes about a minute before I can properly log in (the screen freezes, sometimes it goes black for a couple of seconds and then it goes back to normal) and finally the computer seems to be a bit laggy at times and slower than usual. I have already verified my disk and repaired all the errors that came up (using Disk Utility), and this doesn't seem to have fixed the problem.
I am very confused and cannot figure out why this is happening; I've bought my Macbook only a year ago and I always take exceptional care of it. Has anyone else come across this problem before? If anyone could provide any input or help me figure out the cause, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for your help in advance

Linc - Thank you so much for your response, at least I now understand what is causing this problem. I'm wondering if you know of a way to stop the computer from going into safe sleep (i.e turn this feature off) while it is plugged into AC power? This has never happened in the last 12 months that I've owned my Macbook and now I'm confused as to why this suddenly changed.
Thanks again in advance for your help

  • Flash shuts down after start up screen - please help

I had a strange problem develop yesterday. Whenever I start
Flash 8 the start up screen shows for a moment, then disappears and
the program shuts down and never starts. I ran Ad-Aware, Spybot,
HijackThis and even did a file search by date to see if anything
appeared on my computer that would cause this but I found nothing.
I have Flash MX installed as well and it was doing the same thing
    when I tried that. I repair/installed Flash 8 - didn't work, then
uninstalled Flash 8 and installed again and it's still doing the
same thing. I suppose I could uninstall MX too and try again but I
suspect that's not the problem. Any thoughts?

Your capacitors are leaking, this is a known issue with Rev A G5 iMacs, and they should be replaced, along with the logic board. Take it in and if t stays up long enough, try to clone it to an external drive to save your data. I use SuperDuper! to do this.

  • CS5 Start--up Screen

I WAS an Photoshop Elements user for years.  I just upgraded to CS5.  My first question relates to the start-up screen for CS5.  When CS5 opens, I don't get the same screen view as in PSE8.  In PSE8, the screen was completely full with the PSE8 startup screen that included a "gray" background where the picture being worked on is viewed.
In CS5, I don't see that same gray background. what I see is a transparent background which, in my case is my desktop. When I bring up a picture I can then fill the screen with the picture by dragging it to fill the background space.
Is there a way to get that gray background in CS5 when it starts up.  Without that gray background, it doesn't really seem like the program is open - it is very distracting

    Hi
    Have you tried this one?

  • HP ProBook 4440s stuck on starting windows screen

    Hello Everyone,
I am in desperate need of help!!  I have a HP ProBook 440s laptop which was working perfectly fine on Friday.  Now today on Monday when I turn on the computer it gives me 2 options because it says Windows failed to start.....1) launch startup repair (recommended) or to start windows normally.  When I choose to to do the system repair it says loading files and when done a box pops up and says " The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) occurred in the application at location 0x40161651 and then says click on OK to terminate the program.  After I click ok, it says the installed program cannot start and to click ok to turn off the computer.  Then back to square 1 with turning on the computer with my 2 options mentioned above.  If I try to start windows normally then it will just stay stuck on the starting windows screen.  I have tried hitting F8 to try and launch windows in safe mode the screen will just say loading window files and please wait at the bottom....but it will just stay stuck on this screen with nothing happening even after 45 minutes!!!  All I want to do is to be able to access my pictures that I failed to backup!  I am ok with getting a new laptop, but just desperately need a way to get my pictures off this laptop!!  Any help will definitely definitely be needed and appreciated!!!  Thank you so much in advance!!!

    Hi,
Take out the hard drive, connect it to another PC using SATA to USB adapter. Using Windows Explorer in that PC, copy everything you need to salvage to another external drive.
Manual - Page 62-64 for procedure on taking out the drive:
    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/manualsResults/?sp4ts.oid=522948...
Which is the operating system installed?
Do you have recovery media or installation discs?
Please test the hard drive - quick & extensive tests from BIOS: tap f2 as soon as you power on laptop to get into System Diagnostics. Complete the tests.

  • HP start up screen goes fuzzy

Hi guys, a few days ago my HP desktop computer started turning itself off while I was in the middle of using it. Now this morning when I turn on the computer the blue HP start up screen goes fuzzy and then it then the screen shows goes crazy and shows all different colours (links to pictures below). I have taken my computer apart and vacuumed the dust and put it back together. I have not installed anything in the last few weeks so I don't think it's a software problem. I have tried it with another screen and it does the same thing so it is not the screen.
    Images of what's happening:

If anyone has experienced this or can give me advice on what to try, I would appreciate it greatly.

    Hello,
So from what I understand you’re getting very odd colors and graphics on your monitor, which I did look at the pictures and I appreciate you posting them
Well since you have already tried a 2nd monitor and getting the same response it could possibly be an issue with your graphics card or a bad video driver. Can you provide me the make and model of your computer so I can further investigate the issue.
Please respond when you’re able to get that information.
    Thanks

  • Something strange when archlinux start up

    Hi,
I have something strange when archlinux starts up.
At the beginning, the resolution of screen is the same with the resolution setting in menu.list of GRUB. Then after the prompt "bring up lookback interface OK", the screen splashes one time, then the resolution of screen changes to a higher one.
    Anybody has encountered this problems?
    Thanks

    Thank you. It works

  • HP Envy 14 - black screen after start up screen when trying to recover the system

I have a HP Envy 14 and months ago I got the message "Hard Drive failure imminent".
Well, the HD finally stopped working and I got a Kingston ssd hyperx 240gb to replace it.
I have the HP recovery disks, so I tried to recover my system with them. The 6 disks are used to creat an image and then I have to click "continue" in order to re-initiate the sytem. Then, I get the usual HP start up screen, so I hit enter. Then, I get a black screen (screen is on) and nothing happens. I've done this 4 times and always get the same black screen at the end.
Any suggestions to solve this problem?
    Many thanks.

    Hi
At this point you may consider contacting Kingston to ask them why your SSD is not running after POST when clearly Windows is installed .

  • I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies

I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies. After starting it in recovery mode, it will not allow me to download OS X Mavericks- it says the disk is locked. Any ideas? I do not have a back-up and do not want to erase everything before I have explored my options. Help?

try forcing internet recover, hold 3 keys - command, option, r - you should see a spinning globe
most people will tell you to do both pram and smc resets (google) and if you still have issues, either clean install (easy) or troubleshoot (hard)
