Pin miniplayer to taskbar

How do you pin the miniplayer to your taskbar permanenttly?

OK.  So I was able to get the iTunes controls to show up in the Windows 8 taskbar when iTunes is iconified.  This is close to getting the miniplayer to show up in the taskbar, but doesn't include a description of what is playing or what is up next--it is ashame I can't get all of the iTunes miniplayer to show up in the taskbar.  To get the controls to show up in the taskbard do the following:
*  from iTunes menu, select "edit preferences" then "Advanced"
*  then make sure "iTunes icon in system tray is checked"...but don't check "Minimize iTunes window to system tray".
*  hit "OK"
(Note:  you might also want to check the "Keep miniPlayer on top" choice here if you want the miniplayer always to show up on top.)

  • Remote Desktop Connection 8.1 cannot pin remoteapps to taskbar?

    Hi,
I recently applied kb2830477 and related patches to a windows 7 enterprise node. I also updated a Windows 8 pro node to 8.1.  I'm enjoying the speed and other enhancements.  There are still problems, i.e. Outlook 2010 and 2013 toast and sound don't
    work.
We run RDS remote apps on production 2008 r2 and distribute via .msi files; those pin to the taskbar fine.  Unfortunately the newer remote applications distributed via Control Panel > Remote app and desktop connections won't pin to the taskbar, or
at least I can't figure out how.
On Win/7 I used to drag and drop 2012 r2 remote apps from the All programs > Remote app and desktop connections to the taskbar, or alternatively send to desktop, then drag that shortcut to the taskbar.  that doesn't work, I get a red-lined circle
when I hover over the taskbar.
On Win/8 I used to display all apps, then right-click and choose Pin to Taskbar; that option is no longer available.
Any thoughts?  These apps still launch from the desktop, puzzled as to why they won't pin to the taskbar for easy access.
    Best,
    S'

    Hi,
    Thank you for your comment.
    Just for confirmation.
When you applied KB 2830477 on your client Windows 7 system, there is prerequisites which must be installed and after that you need to install the original KB. Please check that you have installed that, because on RDC 8.1 it must work. If possible try to reinstall
by restarting system and check the result.
    Prerequisites:
To apply this update, you must be running Windows 7 SP1. Additionally, the following updates must be installed:
2574819: An update is available that adds support for DTLS in Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
2857650:Update that improves the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections features is available for Windows 7

  • Starting Firefox in Private mode from the pinned ico in taskbar causes Windows Explorer to crash.

Starting Firefox in Private mode from the pinned icon in taskbar (right click, choose "New Private Window") causes Windows Explorer to crash almost everytime, but not always. Very odd.
Didn´t happen with previous versions of Firefox.
Firefox 22.0, Win 7 Ultimate with all updates applied.

    Hello Paul,
That's a very odd behavior indeed. All I can think of is that an add-on is confused and makes Firefox crash. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • RDS Users unable to pin explorer to taskbar

    Hi,
I have a problem with pinning Windows Explorer to the taskbar in Windows Server 2012 R2 (also had this problem on 2012, before R2). Only users experience this issue, the administrator can pin explorer just fine.
For users the pin options just isn't there:
When I create a new shortcut to explorer in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools" I am able to pin this one. But using this pinned shotcut to open explorer creates a new item on the taskbar.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Roel

    Hi,
    Thanks for your comment.
Yeah, you can check the GPO setting as suggested by armin; whether it’s blocking the user to pin\unpin program to taskbar. Can you let us know the situation for that part? You can find the GPO setting on below mention path.
User configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar
In addition, please check below steps, might helpful in your case:
    1.  Log onto the RDS as a user and pin the items to the start bar that you would like all the users to get pinned when they log in.
    2.  Go the the following registry key and export it.
         HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband
    3.  Go to the following location and copy the shortcut files.
         C:\Users\(user-name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
    4.  Paste these items in the default user directory, if the directory doesn’t exist then create it.
        C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
    5.  Convert the .reg file to a .xml file for easy importation into Group Policy. I found this website to be a easy free option http://colonelpanic.zzl.org/reg2gpp/
    6.  Drag the .xml file into Group Policy and apply whatever settings are required. I set mine to apply once and set item level targeting so only certain users got certain shortcuts.
    7.  Log in with a fresh profile and you should now have the pinned applications you pinned in step 1.

  • How do I rename bookmarks pinned to the taskbar?

    Firefox 18.0
I have some bookmarks pinned to the taskbar. They show the URL of the link, not the name of the bookmark. For example; in my bookmarks dropdown menu I have a bookmark named 'hotmail', but when I pin it to the Firefox icon in the task bar it shows up as https://login.live.com.....
How do I rename it or get it to show the same name as in the dropdown menu?

Sorry for taking so long to respond, but this worked.

  • Cannot pin sites to taskbar icon in Windows 7

This is a separate issue from pinning sites directly to the taskbar, which has yet to be implemented.
This may be the same as
    * [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/773250 questions/773250] which got 40 people saying they have that issue, but only 1 reply that had nothing to do with the problem at hand, and
    * [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621941 Bug 621941] that was filed 2 years ago as a follow-up of the above thread, but went nowhere.
    Can you please tell me
    # Can you reproduce the issue? Try to drag the following onto the Firefox taskbar icon: address bar site icon, .URL shortcut from the desktop, bookmark entry from the Bookmarks button menu. I get a crossed-out circle cursor indicating the action cannot be performed.
    # Is this the same issue as the aforementioned bug report? If not, has this been reported as some other bug? Things can get a little confusing between pinning to the taskbar, pinning to the taskbar icon, and so on. I've already messed up by commenting on the wrong report once today, and I'd rather avoid doing that again.
If “Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar” isn't enabled in the taskbar properties, then there are no frequent items listed in the Firefox jumplist, so that leaves no way to pin a site there.

Now it seems to have sorted itself out. The only things I've done is update nightly, set it as the default browser, and toggle the “Store and display recently opened items...” taskbar option on then back off.
I don't know what fixed it, but if I had to guess, I'd say it was setting as the default browser. Ever since bug 621873, it's been tied to pinning to the taskbar, and there's no shortage of bugs about that.
I'd prefer to just leave this thread open in case others want to comment. It doesn't seem right to mark this post as a solution, since I had the issue across many Firefox versions and I have no idea what fixed it in the end.

No, it is indeed a Firefox limitation, but it's unrelated to this thread. • Pin document to taskbar icon

At one point, I was able to pin pdf documents to the Acrobat icon in the taskbar (Windows 7).  I can no longer do this.  I also no longer see any recent history when I right click on the Acrobat icon.  Acrobat is the only program in my taskbar that behaves this way.  Word, Excel, Windows Explorer, etc. all work fine.  I have tried deleting the shortcut icon and then adding it again.  Still no go.

    Any ideas?

  • Pin shortcuts to Taskbar and Start Menu for all users in Windows 7

How can i Pin shortcuts to Taskbar and Start Menu for All Users in Windows 7? Office 2007 Word, Excel and Outlook.

    There are a few ways...
You can configure a default profile which will give you the ability to setup the Start Menu as you want it with the items pinned how you like.  However, in my experience customizations done to the Taskbar are not maintained in a default profile.
So, one way to get around that would be to create a script and use the "Active Setup" hooks that are built into Windows 7 to achieve the desired results.
    If you combine this script...
    http://blogs.technet.com/deploymentguys/archive/2009/04/08/pin-items-to-the-start-menu-or-windows-7-taskbar-via-script.aspx
    With Active Setup...
    http://www.visualbasicscript.com/Active-Setup-Examples-m67461.aspx
You can get the results you want to get...
Pinned items on the Taskbar have two components, one is in the file system and the other is in the registry.  You could also use GPO Preferences to add both components to a new profile and therby get similar results.  I played around with this method a little and did get it to work also.

  • Remove Powershell Pinned Item from taskbar for all users in 2008 R2 RDS server

Im trying to remove the Powershell Pinned Item from the taskbar on a 2008 RDS server. I have setup a mandatory porfile from a 2008 SP2 server (because you cannot do this in R2 any more), Check the default user pinned items folder, check the registry for powershell.exe, loaded up the NTUSER.DAT file for default to see if any thing obious was there, tried some logon scripts that are suppose to remove pinned items and posted on several forums. This has to be one of the simplest dumb things i have ever worked on , and its been about a week. So how do i remove it?
    P.S.
having the user click un pinn is not a solution
    yes i have checked C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

    Hi Jeramy,
The default pinned items are created the first time a user logs in. Modifying the default user profile won’t help here.
The easiest option is to set the “Remove pinned programs from the Taskbar” to disable taskbar pinned items altogether. The default pinned items won’t show up, but the user won’t be able to pin anything else either.
If you don't want to disable pinning altogether the solution is a little more complicated. One option is to remove the shortcuts “Accessories\Windows PowerShell\Windows PowerShell.lnk” and “Administrative Tools\Server Manager.lnk” from the common start menu folder. These shortcuts are copied to create the pinned items. If they aren’t present they can’t be pinned. This is not a supported option but it may work.
Another option is to use IStartMenuPinnedList::RemoveFromList in a first run script to remove the pinned items. Not sure how reliable this would be due to the timing of when the default items are added compared to when the script would run.
One other option is to use shell scripting to invoke the pin & unpin verbs on items:
    http://blogs.technet.com/deploymentguys/archive/2009/04/08/pin-items-to-the-start-menu-or-windows-7-taskbar-via-script.aspx
This would need to be done when the user first logs in (since unpinning default items in the default user profile won't affect each new user account), but it also need to be timed after Explorer sets up the default pinned items as explained above.
Hope one of these options work for you!

    Hi Lax561,
    Welcome to discussions ...
I can see that Safari is NOT in the Dock ...
Did you check out if Safari is still in the Application folder ?? open Finder an go to the application folder.
If it's still there than you can drag a copy to the Dock.
Do the following ... Select Safari icon an hold down the mouse an the Option key ad the same time while dragging to the Dock. During dragging you will see a + (plus) next to the Safari icon.
Place the Safari icon in the Dock where you like it, next to the Fire Fox icon is maybe the best place to put it.
Post back with the results ...

  • Cannot pin programs to taskbar in windows 7

This problem started with Windows 7 Home Premium freezing when trying to start up from sleep, the desktop and moving mouse pointer appeared but everything else was dead.Sometimes there was disc activity but I could not start Task Manager to see what was going on, maybe it would start up after 3or 4 minutes but not always, then a reboot was the only answer. I removed recently installed programs and switched off indexing, nothing made any difference. Then all icons on the taskbar disappeared including ones previously pinned. When I tried to pin them back again that option was not available in the right click menu. The freezing problem has improved by disabling the screensaver option but how can I revive the 'pin to taskbar option' please?
PS - the freezing problem has returned, desktop and movable mouse pointer but 3 minutes to activate Task Manager - no disc activity.

    Hi,
To avoid confusion, let's focus on the Pin issue first. Regarding the other issue, when the first issue is resolved, I will create a new thread and continue to assist you.
Usually, the pinned items are saved the following folder:
    %APPDATA%\\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
Please click Start menu and copy above command in the open box, and then press Enter. In the popped up box, please clear all items and restart the computer. Then, please pin the application again.
    Thanks,
    Novak

  • Remove default pinned items from taskbar with gpo/p

I have created a custom windows 7 pro image through audit mode and then sysprepped it.  Upon new user login, I notice that the three default taskbar items (IE, WMP, Explorer) are still there.  How can I get rid of these with a gpo/p?
And yes, the CopyProfile tag is set to true in my sysprep.xml file.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
As far as I know, there is a Group Policy setting to change the Pin behavior.
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\Remove pinned programs from the taskbar
The pinned item information are saved in the following locations:
    File System:
    %APPDATA%\\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
    Registry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband]
    Hope this helps. Thanks.
    Dale
No Dale, that does not help me.  If I enable that gpo, it will prevent users from pinning items to the taskbar, we need our users to have that ability.
And if you delete the .lnk files from
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband]
it does not remove them from the taskbar, actually all it does is make it an unusable shortcut with no target.
And there is nothing in that registry key that is useful.
    Any other suggestions?

Is this a problem with the Pinned section of the Jump List for the Firefox icon? Assuming so, a few questions:
    * Did anything significant happen before the data was lost, such as using the Reset feature or uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox?
    * Are other sections of the Jump List (such as Frequent and Tasks) operating normally?
    * Are you able to pin a new site to the Jump List?
Windows uses a binary file format for Jump List data, meaning that viewing it in a text editor reveals a lot of gibberish in addition to scattered text (if you can even determine which file is relevant). There are utilities to extract this data. I haven't tried any myself, but this one came up in a search: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/jump_lists_view.html

That’s not a virus; it’s adware. Click here and follow the instructions, or if you'd rather use removal software, download and run Adware Medic. The second link is a direct download; if it gives you an error message, see this page.

  • This AM I found that Firefox was longer pinned to the taskbar, found lots of files, got new icon for exe pinned, but none of my bookmarks are there.

Was also seeing little Chinese or Korean characters next to tabs, so I'm thinking previous download was hacked? Never found anything missing before though, so I figured that was just an anomaly.
Anyway, I'm hoping that I can use some of the files that are still hanging around (files I can't open) and thinking they probably have all of my settings stowed away in there - like I see one labeled "cookiejar" and plenty of others that only the program can read.
Please let me know if I need to start from scratch.
