Ping Sweep and Discovery in LMS 4.1

Hello Community,
we are running CiscoPrime LMS 4.1 and I have a problem with PingSweep in Device Discovery.
Our company's branches connect to the main site through GETVPN. Discovery through CDP, Routing Table and ARP cannot be used based on the document written by Joseph Clarke (https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9005) and which is extemely helpful.
So the only available option is PingSweep.
The loopback interfaces of all the remote GETVPN devices are in the same IP range, so this was configured in Module Settings --> Ping Sweep in the Discovery.
Unfortunately none of the devices get discovered, even though there is icmp connectivity from the server to the loopbacks.
What could be the problem and how can we further troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance,
Katerina

I would like to update the post...
The problem was that in Discovery Settings --> Filter Settings I had excluded the IP addresses, which indicated the connected between our routers and the ISP CPE. As a result the Discovery did find the routers in question, but "rejected" them because one of the interface IPs was found in the "exclude filter".
Everything is working fine now.

The costumer have MPLS cloud so CDP discovery is not functional.
There are more then 400 branches.
I would like to set the specific ip Range like following because the B class mask is to large for discovery process ( ~7,5 day )

What is the right syntax in this case ?

    Hi,
i tried the following syntax in ping sweep seed devices.

    The log shows the following

  • LMS4 UT ping sweep questions

On the Admin > Collection Settings > User Tracking > Ping Sweep page, subnets that may be excluded from the ping sweep is presented.  How does CM populate this list?  In my environment I have some foreign subnets listed (don't know what these are or how they got there) and I have several valid subnets missing.
I know that in LMS 2 ping sweeps were limited to Class C (254 hosts or < in size).  Since I see subnet masks in this mysterious list defining networks that are larger than that I have to assume LMS 4 does not have this limit.  However, help and documentation states that "User Tracking does not perform Ping Sweep on large subnets, for example, subnets containing Class A  and B addresses."  For example?  So what is the limit?
    Thanks,
    -Jeff

    Hello Michael,
This discussion was not intended for the completeness of L3 resolution for the end hosts in UT, but that what you called “something else”: why is this single device is unreachable for UT although its managed by all other LMS moduls and its IP is ping/snmp-able.
Yes in this network we have also the problem, that the L3 device is none Cisco (not manageable in LMS) and I tried to improve (after Joes hints) the L3 quality of UT with:
    1. DHCP-Snooping => we had to remove because it had slow down the network (don’t know why but after removing DHCP-Snooping, the performance was coming back)
    2. Ping ip in switches kron => no improvement and I cant understand why only a little part of the filled Switch-ARP table will get into UT. IP routing as a prerequisite that LMS will ask the switches ARP-table is enabled at this L3-switch.
    3. I will try today: rollout of UTLite to the clients
But for this part of problem I created a separate discussion in the past.

  • Cisco Prime - Can I ping sweep devices to wake them up before the devices are acquired in User Tracking

I have some devices on my network (printers and security cameras) that go to sleep and do not show up in the ARP table under I ping them.  Is there any way in Cisco Prime (before User tracking is acquired) to do some sort of ping sweep?  If I do not "wake up" these devices in some way, then they do not show up in User Tracking.

Just set up the connection and it should not effect your connection to your pc

  • Want to save files, documents, bookmarks, iTunes and iPhoto libraries, each in separate folders to external hard drive prior to full sweep and overwrite for the purpose of full sweep of Macbook?

Never done this before and cannot find a manual for OS X 10.7.5 Lion. Basically I want to clean my 2009 Macbook6,1 as though I were selling it and start out fresh but before I attempt it I want to stash my contents (Files, Documents, Bookmarks, iTunes and iPhoto libraries to my external Hard Drive, all in separate folders to return them to Macbook after the full sweep and big overwrite. Can anyone help me?

That may not be the best approach (see below).
Format the drive for a Mac (see #1 in Using Disk Utility if you're not sure how).
Create the folders you want on it.
Open a second Finder window and drag what you want from one to the other.
If you only copy the stuff listed, you'll lose your AddressBook, Mail, Calendars, preferences, and probably all sorts of other things.
A better option might be to back up your entire system, either with Time Machine or one of the "cloning" apps.  Then you can restore selectively from TM, or copy selectively from the clone.

  • Ping drop and general Failure on wireless

    Hi all,
I am facing the ping drop and general failure error when I am connected to AP and try to do ping any IP with the ping size is 5500 bytes.Print screen shot is attached for your reference.
    Product/Model Number                 : AIR-AP1242AG-A-K9
    Regards

yes that is what I mean. And you cannot figure out if this is happening or not. Don't rely on the wireless connection icon on windows.
It can be possible that your wireless adapters notices that the RF is busy and there were a few packet drops so it reconnects quickly. It's usually transparent to applications but if you are running a ping at that time ...
In any case, conclusion is : check your RF environment. How many APs around ? a lot of traffic ?

  • Voltage sweep and measure current for Keithley 2400

    Dear All
    Hello,
    anybody can help me?
In spite of nearlly10 days i am searchig to find any labview 2010 program for voltage sweep and measure current that works with RS-232, i has not able finde anything exept some exapmle that read single and multiple data. I has tried to learm labview and changed some prorgram from gpib to RS-232 but i couldn't.
In another attempt i find a good "votltage sweep and measure current" VI that work with RS-232 in labview 5.1.1. i converted it to 2008 but it need to old driver (ke24xx.dll) and dont work in my labview 2010 and I could't find old driver.
in these 10 days, my project on thesis has been stopped and i couldn't do anything for our keithley.
    Please helpe...
in following i attached these files:
1-first it is voltage sweep that works with GPIB
2-Vi that i change gpib port to visa (rs232) that i don't know why it dosen't work.
3-it is Vi related to "votltage sweep and measure current" that works with RS-232 but need to old dirver so i can not use it.
4-SubVi needed to run program of 3 (but there is no driver for these subVIs) has been atached in reply post of this post
if any body has this program ("votltage sweep and measure current" that work rs-232) please send for me

The first time you asked this exact same question, you were given the way to get the driver and told that one of the examples does exactly what you want to do. You have chosen to disreregard this and pursue other options for these close to 10 days. If your thesis is stalled, that is really your own fault for not listening to the answers you were given. I have no idea why you would do this but I would suggest you go back to the original thread, reread it. and if you want further help, explain what the problem with the NI driver is.

  • Please Help!! - Ping to and from MPLS/VPN

I am having strange ping results and cannot understand why. My gut feeling is that this stems from a lack of understanding of the technology.
First, I have leaked a Vrf subnet into the global vrf so that I can have reachability to some devices in the vrf and the devices themselves can have reachability to services outside of the cloud.
I know this design is going to seem a little convoluted so bear with me. I have built a model of my providers network whereby the connected routes between the CE and PE are public addresses, the internal routes are private addresses in the 10.0.0.0/8 network. I am running BGP between the PE and CE, and then redistributing static routesinto OSPF for the actual MPLS network routing.
Then of the backbone (Area 0) of the OSPF network, I have a connection to what I will call my Services network where resources such as DNS/DHCP, Internet, and Call Manager reside.(See diagram).
What happens is that on the PE that is directly connected to the CE, I cannot ping the network contained in the CE unless I actually specify an interface other than the address of the directly connected interface.
If I go to the P router I can ping just fine. Even if I go to the Services network I am successful so I know that I have been somewhat successful in leaking the subnet located in the VPN vrf.
On the flip side, When I am in the CE, I cannot ping to the Services network, or any network that is in the 10.0.0.0/8 space, so I am almost certain there is a routing principle that I am missing here.
Sorry for the long post, but I am trying to include the pertinent information that I hope will lead to some assistance.

    Lejoe,
You were correct in discovering that the route was missing from the 3750 metro point back to the connected route between the PE and CE. I added this and I am not able to ping the services network from the CE router. Thanks very much for this. I am glad it was a simple resolution.
As far as the duplicate address on the 3750 Metro and the PE, the interface on the 3750 was left over from a previous design and is inactive. Thanks for catching as I would need to clean it up regardless.
You were also correct in saying that if I source the ping from within the vrf, then I am able to ping. However, I thought that I took care of this by leaking the route to the global config. Here is the global ruoting table on the PE router.
    S 68.139.201.28/30 is directly connected, FastEthernet1/0
    C 68.1.1.4/30 is directly connected, FastEthernet0/0

    O IA 68.255.1.0/30 [110/2] via 68.1.1.5, 23:30:42, FastEthernet0/0

    O*E2 0.0.0.0/0 [110/1] via 68.1.1.5, 23:30:42, FastEthernet0/0
If you take a look at the configs, I have placed the directly connected route into the global table by using a static route on the PE router:
    ip route 68.139.201.28 255.255.255.252 FastEthernet1/0
I would like to understand why I cannot ping the directly connected route from the PE, especially when it is in the routing table. Would you know why this is?

  • Reporting Progress and Scores in LMS

    Hi all,
I am having some trouble incorporating my Captivate presentations into an LMS and getting it to report both progress and assessments correctly.  This could be a lengthy post, so I apologize in advance.
Let me start by including my current setups:
The desired outcome is as follows:
    Progress
    - I want to report progress up until the exam; for instance, if a user leaves midway through, on slide 15 of 30, Captivate should relaunch on slide 15 for that user
    - Once I get to the exam, users should not be able to backtrack to previous slides.
    - If the user starts the exam, but doesn't finish, it should report to the LMS whatever score was earned, counting unanswered questions as 0's.
    - Once an exam is failed, and this is the tricky part, I want the course to completely restart.  Right now, it's loading mid-exam, and if I try to go back, it chain-pauses the presentation; possibly a conflict since I have it set to not allow users to go back once the exam is started.  Essentially, once a score is reported, I want to wipe the cookie saving the progress clean.
Is there a way I can achieve all of this through Captivate?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.  Right now, the best compromise I can come up with to check "Never Send Resume Data" and not save a users progress - but when I turn this off, it also isn't communicating the exam scores to the LMS either.
    Thanks in advance!

I can't promise that you can have everything you want, but perhaps some of your wishes are certainly doable in Captivate.
I note from your settings that you have the course Report Status set to track Complete/Incomplete rather than Pass/Fail, yet you talk about wanting the user to complete "exam" quiz questions and you also have Report Data set to Quiz Results Only.  There's something inherently contradictory about these settings. Complete/Incomplete is mostly for recording slide views. If recording quiz results is most important, I think you should really be using Pass/Fail.  It's an either/or decision. Most LMSs are far more likely to be reliable on the Pass/Fail setting and some just don't do Complete/Incomplete at all anyway.
I would also recommend you change your Report to LMS setting to Percent rather than Score.  In my experience, Percent is more LMS "friendly".
For starters, there are two mechanisms available for allowing the user to resume a course module at the same point they left off:
One option is to tick the option in TOC settings for Self-paced Learning.  This writes data to a Shared Object (Flash Cookie) on the user's PC that records the slide they finished on.  Captivate doesn't provide a means to erase this cookie out of the box.  You'd have to get some programming done in AS3 to achieve that extra functionality.
Option 2 is to untick the box in LMS Customisation Settings for Never Send Resume Data.  This then will mean the Captivate lesson DOES send resume data to the LMS.  With this option you are depending on the LMS to keep track of where your user got up to.  But be warned.  This setting is more reliable when it comes to tracking which scored object (e.g, a quiz question slide) the user got up to.  I'm not sure how reliable it is when it comes to tracking slide views because each LMS is slightly different as to it's abilities to track data. In my experience, using Self-Paced Learning is better for straight out slide view tracking, but it's also a pain when users that completed the course come back later to browse the content again because they get shunted straight to the last slide.  Quite annoying.  So I don't use it.
Now for some of your other wishes:
To prevent users backtracking to previous slides once they've reached the exam, simply disable Backward movement under Quiz Settings.  Remember that as far as Captivate is concerned, the quiz begins at the very first scored object, which might be a button or click box, not necessarily the first quiz question.
If a user only partially completes an exam, the LMS should still receive a score for each completed quiz question slide as long as you have Reporting Level set to Interactions and Score.  But be aware that this means the LMS will be getting pinged by the course after each and every user interaction, which can place quite a load on the LMS if there are lots of simultaneous users.
By default in Captivate, if a user gets a question wrong they get no score for that question.  So that one is easy.
Your final wish is to force the entire quiz to restart if the user flunks it.  I may be misunderstanding your drift but why not just allow the user multiple attempts at the quiz?  You can set this under Quiz > Settings > Pass/Fail.  Tick the box for Show Retake Quiz Button and place this button right over the top of the Review Quiz button on the Quiz Results slide.  The user will only see the Retake Quiz button if they fail the quiz and when they click it, their previous quiz answers are erased, effectively forcing them to redo the entire quiz.  Wouldn't that get you what you want?
One more thing.  Beware of the options in the drop down menu under Quiz > Settings > Required. I generally set this to Optional, as some of the other settings can cause unpredictable results with LMSs.
Hopefully this info will get you closer to your goals.

  • Buttons not working when I publish my HTML 5 project and play in LMS

When creating an HTML 5 project in Captivate 8, my project plays fine when i preview in web browser, but when i upload to my LMS the project won't autoplay and the buttons don't work.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Any ideas how to fix it?

I can partially answer my own question (if anyone is having the same issue): I disabled the sound click on the buttons and also deselected "Hide Selection rectangle for slide items in HTML5."  I'm not sure which provided the fix (or if it is a combination of both) but the buttons now function the way I want (Note: this is a responsive project).
I still can't get the course to auto play.  I wonder if that is an LMS thing because it autoplays when I preview the project in browser...
