Ping to local domain works but ping to server name dont work from local network PC

Hi
I have done a fresh install of the Windows Server 2012 R2 and installed Essentials Experience role to it.
My problem is that I cannot ping server name from PC in the local network. I can ping local domain name (domain.local).
When I try to ping local domain in the server, it resolutes ok and gives server IPv4 IP but when I ping server name in the server, it gives me IPv6 IP ::1: which I understand to be IPv6 loopback IP. I dont know if this has anything to do with the pinging
problem from the PC.
I had earlier the same server configuration and this earlier server gives IPv4 IP when server name is pinged from the server itself.
How to get PC to ping server name so that I could use http://servername/connect??

Hi,
Have you set firewall to allow incoming ICMP Echo messages ?
By default, Windows Firewall does not allow incoming ICMP Echo messages, and therefore the computer cannot send an ICMP Echo Reply in response.

In addition, please also provide us the output of ipconfig /all on each side of these machines for further research.

Well Bababooey if you're comparing yourself to a Apple Genius Bar then you should already know my answer, your snarky remark get a snarky reply. Why would I go to a salesperson to fix my computer problem when I can go directly go to the source itself. I used to sell Apple computers over 8 years ago and was apple certified before the Genius bar existed. If I am to go about fixing an issue I can't fix on my own I will go to the source itself meaning Apple's programmers and developers - being UI UX Developer myself I know they should have QA'd all platforms and troubleshooted any arising issues.
This was also the first time in the 20 years I've been using a Mac that I even attempted to go on this forum which i thought would put me in connection with a certified Apple representative. This turned out to be a complete waste of time just being a public forum with no Apple employee involved. I was hoping to find a quick fix but in turn I was only frustrated with stupid responses such as yours that were in no way an answer to my original question.
BTW I fixed the issue on my own and without your help or Apples help. I'm glad if all forums point here regarding this issue because I now have the answer. The answer I was looking for from someone earlier was as simple as this {Download Maverick and reinstall the platform - it will take an hour to do but afterward 10.9.2 was installed and my computer is now able to shutdown and restart without having to do a hard boot.} No more software update bar at top and no problems with my drive which I told both you and Grant - I know my computer better than you and I've probably been using them longer than you.
So again Babowa you were so wrong...... and I am right.
Again anyone having the same problem, I suggest reinstalling Maverick and you'll be suprised 10.9.2 will work fine.

If you want to restore a reomoved app,you need to use
Add-AppxPackage to add a signed app package (.appx) to a user account.
But we cannot extract them from the ISO.
The behavior is by design.And this is a software protection regime.

Computer on wireless cannot log onto domain but if i change name it works.

I have an XP machine that can not log onto a 2003 domain with the a certain name. I have narrowed it down to the name and on wireless. If i put this on the wire it works fine and if i change the name it works fine on wireless. Due to our naming convention this machine needs to be named this and i can not change it. I have included the debug log but i can not make heads or tails of it. Has anyone else had similar problems and what did you do to resolve it?

That is the part that gets sticky with me.
1.) truly a bad password
     if this was the case then changing the name would still render the computer useless wouldn't it? In this scenario if i change the computer name the wireless works fine so i would assume the certificate is installed correctly.
2.) ACS hasn't been told what directory to check on non-internal accounts
     this is an internal computer and again changing the name works fine changing it from xx-xx-ms20 to xx-xx-ms33 allows it work fine. I choose 33 because the last computer in that lab is 32.
3.) Windows using the cached credentials, with a non-domain login to the profile
     i can not even log in as it says "domain not available"
There is no where that ACS or WCS stores a computer name as disabled or something like that is there? I see a disabled list in ACS but nothing is in there but i was curious if there was as super secret hiding place Cisco put in that i cant seem to find.

Push the orange music button and the player opens, but when I push the play button nothing happens other than the pause icon comes up.
Both side volume and the onscreen volume read at full.

-restore ipod to latest ios if problems still happenes then it's a hardware problem nothing like a good old appointment at genuis bar would help.

Manual Sync is working, but automatic and login & logout not working.

I'm having a problem in that I can do a manual sync with the "Sync Home Now".
However, whenever trying to have an automatic sync happen on it's own or the syncing to happen at login and logout. Syncing doesn't work.
After turning on more version loggin from MirrorAgent I think I've narrowed down the problem.
At login I see this:

Again wrong IP address. I've double and triple check the OD server and it's serving the correct info:

NFSHomeDirectory: /Network/Servers/BigMac.local/Users/ramos-m
I've rebooted the client so many time I've lost count. I also continously get the message at login time "Your network home has changed since your last synchronization. Please select the location of your latest files."
I've tried selecting both Network Home as well as Local Home many times yet I still have that old stuck IP address. How do I get the client to get unstuck with the old IP address and get the new one?

I've found more info. I think I've found the file that has that string in it. There's a file called:
/Users/ramos-m/Library/Mirrors/0016cb8b9896/mirrors.plist
Which seems to have the string:
<key>home_xmlSpec</key>
<string>afp://192.168.102.3/Users</string>
Which is the incorrect home. Why is this here and how do I fix it? Do I just put the right one in there? Somehow that feels wrong in that it's only a band-aid. Why isn't this file getting updated? What is it?

Since updating Firefox, Dashlane doesn't work, but I am told you are working on it? When can I expect it to work again?

I updated Firefox and started to use it again, after having problems with it freezing and crashing. I had used it for years, but suddenly it was not working well and I went to Safari. When they indicated an update to Firefox, I updated it and started to again use it, as I always liked the way it worked and most of my Bookmarks were still good. I found that Dashlane did not work with it and I have been told you are aware of this and working on the problem. Please notify me when it is solved, as I want to continue to use Firefox but have to switch back to another browser to get to my bank or stock brokers site. For the record, I use a MacBook with OS 10.6.8.

Could you check to make sure Dashlane is up-to-date? Two other Mac users this week reported success:

Ipod internet will not work. but my computer and other devices work

It shows that i am connected to the internet, yet it wont load any sites. It will load google. But when i go to click on a site, it'll either pop up as safari cannot open because your ipod touch isnt connected to the internet, or a server issue. Every now and then it will work, but then after a minute it will just go back to its old ways.
I've tried reconnecting and connecting the wifi on the ipod
I tried to reset network settings.
I've turned my modem on and off.
Again, it may only work for a couple minutes or so, but then itll just go back to its old ways.
My laptop, phone, and other stuff works on the wifi, I am only having the problem with the ipod.
Facebook and instagram app works also. but safari isnt

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

865pe Neo 2 FIS2R, SATA RAID on Intel works but Single SATA on Promise dont???

Im sure this has been asked before so please forgive me but here goes.
I have a 865PE Neo2 FIS2RMB, 2 gig ram, P4 CPU running XP SP2.
On the MB's Intel SATA controller I have a Pair of WD Raptors in RAID0 array which works great.
but I also want to put a 500gig SATA HD on the promise controller as a storage drive.
I have spent 2 days trying to get it to work but no luck. If I enable the promise in the BIOS then my comp goes into a run bios then reboot cycle. I have installed the latest promise drivers from MSI but these are old anyway.
This is driving me mad and I an going grey way before my time. Has anyone managed to do this and can anyone suggest anything?

Try to put old disk on SATA3 and SATA4 and add the new disk on SATA1 or SATA2.
Go in the Native mode, put S-ATA and do not configure S-ATA as RAID.
Do not forget to install Promise Fastrack 378 first from CD or Liveupdate on the Windows before you put them on Promise controller!
I usually install everything on HD on Intel SATA them move HD on Promise and create RAID 1.

when i run flowing command :

Nslookup works but ping fails

I am trying to ping one of my server using hostname it throws "unknown host" but i can do nslookup for the same server . Kindly rectify to solve this issue

nslookup (i.e "name server lookup") uses DNS name servers in /etc/resolv.conf.
ping is more general- it checks the "hosts" line in /etc/nsswitch.conf to see how it should resolve files- possible mechanisms include dns, nis, files and ldap. typically when you configure a solaris system as a NIS or LDAP client , that entry willl be missing the "hosts. ... dns" entry
Sample filea are provided on the server
# cd /etc
ls | grep nsswitch
nsswitch.conf
nsswitch.dns
nsswitch.files
nsswitch.ldap
nsswitch.nis
nsswitch.nisplus
My nsswitch.conf file includes
# grep hosts /etc/nsswitch.conf

Most name server info is in DNS, a few things are in local hosts (mostly the names and ip's for the server itself as well as the a few key local servers that need to be accessible when the system is starting up) and I don't rely on LDAP for host info.
You may want to have files before DNS....

[SOLVED] ppp: pon seems to work, but ping doesn't

Hi List,
when trying to reinstall Archlinux from a CD, I get stuck in the very beginning of the process because I can't make the network connection work.
The disk is already partitioned and formatted. I loaded the appropriate (de-latin1) keys, mounted root, boot and home partitions (/mnt/, /mnt/boot/ etc) and used swapon for the swap partition. I then copied from the backup of my old installation the /etc/ppp/peers/pppoe file, changed eth0 to enp0s7 (after doing an ifconfig), and set a symlink to this file called provider.
Then calling pon on the commandline works as expected. However, if I ping www.google.com or so, I get the unknown host message. I believe the same setting worked for me with my former Archlinux install, and the internet connection works anyway - I'm using it for my labtop to write this message right now.
Did I miss something? Is there some necessary config I forgot about?
Here is the content of the pppoe file:

I tried it, but it does not help.
There are descriptions of how to configure pppoe, but I think I don't need(ed) to give all this specific information, all I had to do was adding a pppoe connection config file (/ppp/peers/pppoe shown above) with my phone number as user name - and the usepeerdns and noauth attributes made it unnecessary to give more info.

Or should I abort direct configuration of pppd and go for something like wvdial (which I don't know at all)?

Nslookup works but ping does not

- I generally leave my wireless on.
- Came back to work after being wireless at a client and connected to both ethernet and wireless (just plug in and open the lid).
- Cannot ping office machines by name. I get "ping: cannot resolve hawk: Unknown host"
- If I do a nslookup I get:
Server: 192.168.242.70
Address: 192.168.242.70#53
Name: hawk.tagent.com
Address: 192.168.242.66
- If I turn off wireless the ping will start working.
- Turn wireless back on and ping still works.
- ifconfig before and after shows no change
- This has happened a couple times already.
