Pinging Oddity - iTunes

Hi
I want to air this out here before I contact the iTunes store.
Prior to the switch to MobileMe back in July, I would ping the iTunes store each time our podcast was updated via iWeb. The URL I used:
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?id=269673282
The show would appear on my iTunes page within the hour of the ping. Never failed.
To this day, if I use that ping address, a confirmation returns confirming the ping. The address returned on the confirmation is:
http://web.mac.com/geminiawakening/Gemini_Awakening/Podcast/rss.xml
Over the past two months, a significant delay (over 1 week) has been occurring between the time the update is released and appearing on my iTunes page.
After going round and round with iTunes store personnel with no resolution, I realized today for the first time a difference exists in the Address returned on the above Ping from iTunes vs. the actual Feed address now assigned by iWeb.
For example, after the switch from .Mac to .Me, the RSS feed address was changed by iWeb to
http://web.me.com/geminiawakening/Gemini_Awakening/Podcast/Podcast.html
or the RSS feed
feed://web.me.com/geminiawakening/Gemini_Awakening/Podcast/rss.xml
If I use either of these addresses to ping iTunes (using
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?feedURL=http://FEEDURL, where I substitute for FEEDURL either the .me http address or .me XML feed address, a message returns "No Podcast Found for Ping Request".
Is there a way out of this apparent Catch 22, where I can ping iTunes successfully with the correct feed address provided by iWeb?
BTW, if I enter the address returned from the iTunes ping in my browser, a RSS feed page appears, showing only 1 show (most current). If I click on the RSS icon, the page will not switch over to the http page. By contrast, using the .me address shows the RSS page with all shows, and the switch over to http works correctly.
Also, I list my show on Podcast Pickel. Each current show appears within the hour of updating to MobileMe. Go figure.

Recently downloaded Itunes and can't connect to Ping or itunes store.

I have recently downloaded itunes and I can't connect to Ping or Itunes store. I downloaded Itunes a few days ago and both were working but they suddenly stopped working. I downloaded itunes again but it hasn't made any difference. When I "like" a song via Ping in iTunes, it no longer updates in my recent activity - any ideas why, or how to fix?

Done all the normal updates - iOS5, iTunes 10.5, etc.
As of the middle of June, every time I "like" a song via Ping in iTunes, it no longer updates in my Recent Activity tab in Ping. Any ideas why, or how I can resolve?

I don't have a solution, but this is also happening to me. I have contacted iTunes Support but they have been less than useful. Hopefully someone will have a solution and post here.

Can't find any tab called "Ping" on iTunes 10

Okay so I just googled about the much-hyped Ping and was quite impressed with Apple's innovation. So I updated my Mac to iTunes 10....but I simply couldn't find Ping under the iTunes store tab! I tried the iTunes tutorial but it was of no help! I googled again where can I find Ping in iTunes, but failed to find anything. Even my friend living in Dubai couldn't the Ping tab when he updated to iTunes 10. So people could you help me and my friend out?
Or is it something like Ping is only available for U.S citizens?

iTunes Ping is available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and the United States.

What happened to "ping" in iTunes? I do not see it listed like I did before.

I looked for "ping" in iTunes recently, but it's nowhere to be found. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or where it went?

Ping was not getting much use, and press reports are that it is being quietly retired. See this article:

Error -1202 while creating a profile in Ping in iTunes 10

I looked this up and most people have had this error when trying to redeem gift cards. That is not my issue.
I am just trying to create a Ping profile and get this error message blocking me from doing so. Any idea what I need to do to fix this?

I am having the same issue. I was previously seeing the (-9808) error caused by checking for server certificate revocation, but managed to get that error straightened out. I also have noticed that the (-1202) error occurs if I go into my account in iTunes, click Manage My Alerts and I either click Cancel or Save.

Ping on Itunes error -609

Hi,
I have not been able to like or post any of my music lately on ping.
I keep getting the error message with -609
I have tried the suggested trouble shooting (Ie. shutting it off and logging out of itunes and trying again).
I even restarted my computer.
Still I have this error message.
Any other suggestions I can try Or, are my ping days over?

Ping, my iTunes Library, my disappointment !

At first glance Ping doesn't appear to be very intuitive.
My iTunes Library is full of information such as Play Count, Ratings and Genres etc. It also runs Apples Genius scripts to recommend tracks based on existing tracks in my library.
When setting my Ping profile up it asks me to add the music I like. It only suggests tracks I purchased from the iTunes Store. I don't purchase much from the iTunes store, most of my music (some 5000+ tracks) has come from a wide range of sources such as my CD collection.
Is Ping limited to tracks bought from the iTunes Store?
Can Ping not work more like LastFM? Where by any track I play is added to 'Recent Activity' or if I add Ratings to tracks this also appears in "Recent Activity'.
I'm I missing something? or is Ping not really "Social Networking" but another marketing tool, such as the Genius suggestions, being used to drive greater sales in the iTunes Store?

My impression of Ping is totally underwhelming. Why in the world would only iTunes purchase history be considered and not library play counts, ratings, genre tags and so forth. No, really .. can this be explained? As it stands, Ping is utterly worthless to the musically-driven social net citizen and is not likely to have promise as a social networking platform in Apple's marquee media store. Surely Apple must realize how scale-free social networks form, right? Without well connected nodes capable of generating quality content, and without those nodes' wealth of preference data you've got nothing going on here. You see, had my library and playlists been pulled in I just might of cared enough to write some reviews, invite my tribe and hang around long enough for a little more Lala DNA to show up. Not a chance now.

Is it possible to ping the iTunes Store through iWeb?

I set up my iWeb podcast page and the iTunes Store is receiving all the information accept the program logo. I have renamed the jpeg file and resized it to a very managable file size of 32 kb and the image size at 320 x 272. The original logo was much bigger than this current file and iTunes had no problem accepting it. What else can I do to make iTunes accept the logo?
Can you ping iTunes through iWeb? I appreciate your assistance.

How to hide Ping in iTunes 10?

Whatever the heck Ping is, I know I don't need it. Is there any way to hide it from the sidebar?

According to the Mac OS X Human Interface Guidelines:
You should allow users to customize the contents of a source list. This way, you allow users to decide what object containers are most important to them.

How to create a user name for iTunes reviews?

I just noticed that almost every iTunes review is posted under an anonymous user name... except for mine!
How do I add a user name to my profile/account so that my real full name isn't automatically posted under every review?
I had this same issue with my apple message boards user name, and Apple told me that I had to create an entirely new account. Not a big deal for the forums. But creating a whole new iTunes account means losing all my movies, music and apps. Not gonna happen.
So hopefully there's some way to add an alias name for my reviews.

I was about to post an iPhone app review and couldn't see what name was going to be displayed. In searching for that I found your question. You've probably solved this by now but in case you haven't you need to turn off Ping in iTunes. Go to the iTunes store and open the preferences. Under "Parental" click to disable "Ping". When they added Ping they made it use your real name. After you have disabled Ping you can edit your nickname. At the bottom of the iTunes window click on "Account" under "Manage". At the bottom of that page you'll see an option to edit your Nickname in the settings section.

My podcast no longer appears in the iTunes Store

There I and a friend turned to deal with issues iPhones and iPods Touch.
To begin the registration of our podcast and the registration problem has been tripled.
Well published in three different blogs

In an attempt to block the mundotouch and itouchbr intentionally blocked the touchcast.
To block used in all the RSS tag <itunes:block>yes</itunes:block> and all were removed from the iTunes Store only that we publish only the touchcast only that we are not able to get him re-appear in the iTunes Store .
I have made several attempts, I put <itunes:block>No</itunes:block> I did ping the itunes resubmit your feed and when I try to access the http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=id
He says that is not available to U.S. iTunes.

Using the <itunes:block>No</itunes:block> tag is the correct thing to do: how long ago did you unblock it? - new episodes take 1-2 days to turn up so I would expect the same sort of delay before iTunes reacts to the unblocking.

Error -39 when trying to download my own Podcast in iTunes

Hi all,
I get an unknown error (-39) when I try to download the first episode of my podcast:

* the feed is validated by the recommended web site
* I can subscribe to the Podcast in iTunes
* the podcast information on iTunes is correct
* the episode information on iTunes is correct
* I pinged the iTunes server to make sure it's got the latest changes
* someone else can actually subscribe to the podcast and download the episode
* I tried to unsubscribe and subscribe again, to no avail

My problem was client related.
I couldn't download it because I had a file (*.tmp) stuck in the iTunes > Podcasts > Downloads directory for that podcast. Once I deleted that file, I could download the podcast fine.
That's abug in my book.
Where can I submit it?

Updating my podcast to new location, iTunes not recognizing new feed(48hrs)

Hi Podcasters,
I've been googling and reading about this the past few hours but I'm still at a loss. On Monday I moved my podcast - Pod Stories: Tales for everyone, which has been on iTunes since May 2007, to a new location. It's is the first time I've done this. The podcast and all the files therein is now located in my Sites folder on my iDisk.
Upon moving I changed my cover art and republished the audio files using the Podcast Maker software. It automatically 'pinged' to iTunes once completed.
It's been 48hrs and there is still no update on iTunes. I did the ping posted by Roger Wilmut1 using my iTunes i.d and it still came back stating the old url. I then did the second ping to the feed directly and it said podcast does not exist..?
I've read on Apple about a new feed URL command but to the life of me I really don't get it or understand how it's supposed to be done. Podcast Maker does everything for me and I can't read the raw .xml file.
It would be fab if someone in-the-know could help me out or explain things in a way I can grasp I am a techy but when it comes to coding/commands etc it's all a blur

I made the change the day you posted the reply to this post. So it's been 5 days already...
The URLs I copied into the original post came from Podcast Maker, I just pasted directly from the software. The new URL/feed is the io.creative one - the address is on my iDisk which I got with my Mac Me.com account.
Podcast Maker allows to feed directly to the 'sites' folder in the iDisk, does it automatically. The old URL feed is on a friend's company server. But now that I have this iDisk I thought best to move over the podcast to there.
Thanks for the example. So i paste it into the top line of the channel section in the old .xml file? Do I leave the original feed address in the file or replace it with the new one? This area is not very clear in the Apple docs online.
