Pink and Purple Horizontal lines on iMac Screen

I set up twp new users on my iMac and also restored my daughters iPod under one of the users today. After trying to switch from user to user, teh computer started acting slow and was not responding. We tried to shut it down but it got stuck for while so we forced it to shut down by holding the on/off switch in the back. The screen popped up with this image, see attached. HELP! The white square on the right is a reflection from our window.

Try Resetting the PRAM
If that doesn't help, try a Safe Mode boot.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
If that didn't help, restore OS X. Restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access the built in utilities in  OS X Recovery

  • My iMac display occasionally flashes green and purple horizontal lines... is anyone else having this issue, or know of a fix?

The screen occasionally flashes purple and green horizontal lines across it. Then the buttons on the left side of my menu bar turn fuzzy, and when I click on them they become black rectangles with green and purple lines running thru them. The dock also has a hint of green and purple in it. And some of the shadows around application windows are just black outlines, instead of gradiating shadows. Is this happening to anyone else? Does anyone have a fix? I read about the other supposed graphics issues, but I think they're unrelated, or at least left unfixed by the firmware update.

All Macs come with a one year limited warranty.

Why can't you use the Bluetooth keyboard?
According to the link I posted for the AHT..

  • Blue and Green horizontal lines on my screen

I have the 2008 version of the MacBook Pro with the 15 inch screen. While using it last night I suddenly started seeing blue and green horizontal pixelated lines going across my screen. The first time it did it, I rebooted my laptop and it was fine for a while but then they came back. This morning when I turned it on, the lines were still there. I have no sort of warranty on this computer anymore. This is actually a computer I recieved from school back in 2008. Is this a sign my screen is going out?

    Hello tattooedbeauty,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your MacBook Pro display.  I would be concerned as well if I were seeing blue and green horizontal lines.
I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with displays.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to an external display.  I recommend reviewing the full article, but this step specifically stands out to me:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

  • Green and Purple Horizontal line on top of video ...

For some reason I'm getting a flickering green and purplish line on the top one or two pixels of every video I encode to H.264 through Compressor. I've heard the "even number theory" and its not working. Even heard the "divisible by 16 theory". NOT WORKING. So ... any have a real solution here? Thanks!

    here is the theory:
It's not really an aspect ratio problem, it's a dimension problem when encoding to h.264. I just posted this in another thread a few minutes ago.
"Divide the height and width of the video by 16. If you get an uneven number your more than likely will get a green line when encoding to h.264. H.264 encodes in blocks of 16 pixels. For example: 720x405...
    720=45
    405=25.3125
When I a get a video with a dimension of 720x405, common dimensions for a dvd 16x9 square pixels video. I'll trim off 5 pixels and set the height size to 400.
Also if you encode sizes by 16, you'll get a better encoding."

  • Help! N95 8GB Horizontal Lines on LCD Screen getti...

I was getting a few horizontal lines across my screen of my N95 8GB. Switching the slider from portrait to landscape doesn't change the direction of the lines.
The lines have been getting progressively thicker to the point where now it's hard to read anything on the phone.
Do I have a dying screen?
I've take the slider apart, detached and reattached the screen and ribbon cable connector, and it doesn't make any difference.
Should I buy a replacement screen or is there something else that could be wrong? The rest of the phone functions perfectly fine.

    Nokia N95 (A6.02)

    Hi calciumicon,
It would probably be best to have your device checked by a Nokia Care point. From what you describe it might be the screen needs to be replace. The N95 is a model which has been out of production for a while though so check to verify it can still be repaired.

  • Confused about TM's 'grey' & 'purple' horizontal lines in timeline

    I have Lion OS 10.7
Whenever I connect my LaCie external HD and click on TM, the Star Field timeline would show both Grey and Purple horizonal lines.
Grey horizontal lines being TM's Snapshots
Purple horizontal lines being my external HD
I just downloaded software from the Apple and when I enter the Star Field, there are no grey horizontal lines.  If my LaCie is not connected, a pop up box says that my 'TM backup disk can't be found.'
But, I have entered the Sar Field in the past without my LaCie connected and there used to show about a week of TM snapshots, all grey horizontal lines in the timeline.
Has something changed?  Is TM snapshots still taking place when I am away from my external HD?
    Thanks for your help,
    B.

You're saying you select Enter Time Machine from the menu bar and nothing happens? If so, proceed as below.
Please try each of the steps below that you haven't already taken.
    Step 1
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try again to enter Time Machine. Post any messages that appear in the Console window – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
If you're backing up to an external hard drive attached to your Mac, open the backup volume in the Finder. You should see a folder with the name "Backups.backupdb". You should not see a file with a name ending in "sparsebundle". If you do see that, the backup was created over a network and can only be used that way.
    Step 3
Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the backup drive in the pane on the left (not any of the volume icons below it.) At the bottom of the window, you should see this:
Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table
If the partition scheme is anything else, the drive has to be repartitioned (with the loss of all data.)
    Step 4
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch the Finder by selecting  ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar, then selecting Finder and pressing return. Your Finder settings will be lost.
Try again to enter Time Machine. If you still can't, put back the file you moved to the Desktop, replacing the newer one that will have been created in its place.
Otherwise, close the Finder window you opened and delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Recreate your Finder preferences.
    Step 5
Boot in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime. Try again to enter Time Machine.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.

  • I have an iphone 4 and i have pink and blue shading on my hone screen and i is particulary noticable on photos that are very bright....help

My iphone is showing pink and blue shading/lines especially noticable when taking photos that are bright, it seems to highlight the outline ......help

Ok, so in had to do this to my iPad because it crashed. if you are okat restoring your phone, you need to put it into dfu mode.
1 Hold both lock and home button until screen goes dark
2 once I'd does, not immidietly but a little bit after (don't wait to long because it will restart) let go of the power button (still holding the home button)
3 hold old that for about 10 secs. Your phone screen will be black
4 plug into iTunes.  iTunes will detect it and say "iphone in recovery mode" just press restore and if you have a backup, use that
When I first learned how to do this, it took me a few tries but it works really well and it is a nice thing to know how to do

  • I have a straight horizontal line across my screen

    Hi Folks
have a straight horizontal line across my screen. Can assist?

Yes, move the screen slowly back and forth, if it changes, you have a damaged monitor feed cable
Does it appear in all screens?
Does it vanish from time to time?
post a pic,   hook your AIr up to an external monitor, if its there, its GPU /logic problem
if its gone, its as mentioned a bad monitor feed from the logic via the cable.
    perform SMC reset and re-verify
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
Contact Apple for an appt. for in shop diagnostics and likely repair.

Hi Guys, my iphone 4 showing bad retina display and showing horizontal lines? What could be the problem???

Could be that your screen is damaged or dying.  Only way to know is to bring the phone to Apple for evaluation.

  • Satellite P10: white and purple clouds fading across the screen when booting

I had been having problems with my SP-10 laptop so I bought a new hard drive (Fujitsu 60GB instead of standard 40GB) and fitted it myself. I was working fine with this for a long time until suddenly I had the strangest problem I have ever seen on a computer...
Sometimes, when booting the laptop, instead of the normal red "TOSHIBA" screen and the Windows XP startup message, the laptop simply shows some weird white and purple clouds fading across the screen, eventually fading to a very dark but not quite black screen.
I thought to begin with it was a problem with the DVD drive, as when it finally gave in and booted normally, the DVD drive was disabled. However, I have noticed in the BIOS, under "Advanced" that the InfraRed Port shows intermittently - it shows with the [Disabled] setting next to it, but will then disappear from the listing, then reappear again, and then go again and so on.
Sometimes my computer will be operating normally, then completely lock up (mouse and all) and will reboot with the clouds!
I have looked in the Windows Event Viewer for when the notebook has locked up and have seen something to do with an IRQ problem for the Infrared Port. I disabled the InfraRed port in Device Manager (I managed to enable it in the BIOS by loading standard BIOS settings) and restarted, but it started up with the clouds again, so I have a feeling the InfraRed port is the culprit - perhaps faulty hardware/loose connection as it is located quite close to the DVD drive and HD drive.
I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this before on ANY computer, and if they knew how to resolve it? It seems completely illogical that a faulty IR port could alter what is displayed on the screen at bootup, unless of course there is something wrong with the boot sector of my HD?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Tom

Well I can assure you my laptop has an InfraRed Port on it - I used to use it with my mobile phone for various things but don't bother now.
Good idea about attaching another monitor - hadn't thought of that. I will see what I can come up with.
I simply don't understand how anything except the display driver could be causing this, unless of course, another piece of hardware is conflicting with the display driver. But then why would it be intermittent and not constant? Anyway, I don't seem to have had the problem since I disabled the IR port (except the first time I disabled it) so here's hoping it's fixed.
Will definitely try attaching another display though. Good thinking.
    Thanks,
    Tom
