Pink display

I have a new mac mini with a vga/dvi adapter to an older hitachi crt monitor. The display will go pink at times when the monitor cable is touched .I have repeatedly checked the adapter interface and the adapter fittings are screwed down tight. Is this a problem with the mac mini or is it an issue with the monitor? Thanks.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I think this is a problem with integrity of the video connection, as evidenced by the fact that you can make it happen by touching the cable.
If everything is screwed tightly together, it may be that the adapter is not making consistent contact either with the mini or the monitor's cable - some have been reported to be problematic in that respect.
Try disconnecting the cables, then reconnecting again, inserting and tightening the adaptor first, then connecting the VGA cable. If you can't resolve it that way, call Apple - they should be able to supply you with a replacement adapter - Apple do have an alternative type that has a short cable instead of a solid one-piece design, and those seem to be more reliable.

  • Pink Pink Pink Display!

My display shows everything in shades of pink with golden highlights. It started out flashing either pink or cyan for just a few seconds. But now it has been pink for about 1 1/2 days.
I took it to the Apple store on Sunday. It flashed pink, but the genius wasn't looking so he was unable to diagnose the problem. He said it was either the display or the motherboard.
Any ideas on which might be causing the problem? If it's the display, is that something I could install myself? I'm out of warranty:( and not a born computer tech though I have done both the memory and the hard drive.

HUH? If the genius is suppose to be diagnosing your computer exactly where was he looking?
When the genius did look, he did not see that the +"display shows everything in shades of pink with golden highlights since he allegedly did not see the flash?"+

  • Mac Mini (mid 2011) Display Issues

    Hello.
Recently I started having some issues with the display from my Mac Mini (mid 2011, core i7, 8GB, OS X 10.9). During usage the screen started flickering erratically and then went blank. I turned the Mac off and found that it was very hot so I removed the bottom cover and the RAM chips and gave it a bit of a clean (it was quite dusty) then I allowed it to cool before putting it back together. After putting it back together it worked for about a day until it had the same problem.
Now on startup the following occurs:
    1. On the start-up screen (where the Apple logo is displayed) the screen is overwhelmingly pink (display RGB settings are fine), except for the left half of the Apple logo which remains grey.
    2. After progressing through the start-up screen the display goes white and nothing further happens.
I have checked the display and it works fine. The HDMI cable is not the issue either.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this and a possible fix?
If it is of any help the monitor is an ASUS MT276H.
    Thanks.

So I have tried a SMC reset and all that has changed is the front indicator light is off and the fan has kicked it up to 11. Please find a picture of the display I described earlier at the following link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wirrc01xut3p8tx/Photo%201-12-2013%2010%2054%2004%20pm. jpg (sorry it was taken with an iPhone 4).
I have never performed an SMC reset before but it seems like it is taking a long time and/or not working. I'm at a loss to what this might be.

  • Lenovo g570 screen pink and sometimes green

Hello all, I am new here. My G570 is a couple years old and just recently started showing a pink screen with a few green vertical bars on the rh side of the screen. Can see traces of green vertical lines thru the pink hue. Was told it may need a screen replacement. Any truth to this?

  • Satellite P300 PSPCCA - screen went pink

    Hi,
I am running the above model notebook.
Using it last night for a couple of hours and the screen went pink, I have tried a couple of system restores to no avail, it is not screen res settings I have checked them.
At a loss of what it might be, anyone got any advice on fixing it?
Whole screen is pink, I have a light shadow behind my mouse, some graphics come up in purple/pink shades.
    thanks

    Hi
There are two possible faulty parts; either its graphic card or its a display.
If the same pink display would be visible on external monitor then the issue is related to faulty graphic chip.
If the external monitor would be ok, then the issue is related only to the notebooks screen.

  • Intel Mac Mini Pink hue display problem

Originally purchase a refurbed Mac Mini 1.66 Intel Core Duo, and over the years I've upgraded the RAM (w/ 2 Gigs) replace wifi "G" card with "N" card. Unfortunately, my mac mini died. Went to the Apple store in Tampa, and the genius said the logic board was toast.
I replaced the logic board with 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo board, and everything is working fine except for the display.
When it starts up, the standard grey screen now has a pink hue. After booting is finished the screen still has the pink hue. However, after a bit, the screen turns to normal, but there is some flicker. My mini is connected to a Samsung LCD 17" display that is working fine. There are no cable issues, I connected the display to my iBook, and it works fine.
Has anyone come across this before? Do I need to reseat the RAM sticks? Is there a software setting that I need to change since I upgraded from a 1.66 logic board to a 1.83?
The logic board is under warranty, but I was hoping to get some answers that can be easily fixed instead of sending it back.

I took the mac mini to work, and hooked it up to my monitor. It still displayed the pink hue at start up. I'm leaning toward this being a bad logic board.
One thing that is curious is that the screen will loose most of the pink hue as the Mac Mini warms up. It's almost back to normal, but the colors still have a little too much pink even after adjusting the monitor. Also, you can see flicker as it warms up as well.
I'm sending back the logic board for replacement.

  • Mac Pro (early 2008) freezing after displaying a pink checkered pattern.

I upgraged to lion and a whole lot of issues arose.
The first thing I noticed is that I would keep getting an error message on startup saying that one of my computer USB ports is pretty much being overused in wattage. I also remember that it was getting a lot more warmer then usual and the fan was also sounding like it was overworking. This eventually lead up to the worst error - My computer would freeze up at random moments. Could be 5 minutes, could be upwards of two hours. It would eventually just display a very faint pink checkered pattern along across the screen. Once that happened, the mouse cursor on the screen would lockup, and everything would freeze until restart.
After a couple weeks of trying everything imaginable, I just reinstalled Leopard.
Everything worked flawlessly again. No power interupt messages, or lockups...
Until today (roughly 2 months after dropping back to OS Leopard). I was recording in Logic Pro 9 when I noticed a faint checkered pattern... I thought to myself, oh God NOT NOW! haha. But yeah, here we go again
I love this machine, and feel kind of cheated after only getting 3 years and 6 months use.
This machine has been well taken care of, and taken apart and put back together with care.
Any suggestions? The closest Apple Store to me is 3,000 km away.
I've heard stories of some of these machines having video card issues, hopefully that's just the case?
    Cheers,
    MistahTuck

Actually what graphic card was left out.
    What you tried.
SMC Reset and AHT at top of my list along with of course a clean install
you researched your apps hardware drivers on Roaring Apps now that there is no Rosetta in Lion
What about a 'diagram' of your devices; your USB and how/where, any hubs. Maybe you need PCIe USB (USB2 or 3) controller.
Hopefully not using just 6GB RAM ("6" doesn't make sense otherwise though)

  • EMac 700MHz display turned purple/pink. Can't boot from HD and CD

    hi,
    I have several issues here:
    1) My eMac display turned purple/pink from the start
    2) It won't start from either HD or CD. It gets to the grey Apple and the spinning wheel.. After a while of spinning, it freezes and nothing else I can do. This happens on booting from HD and CD.
    Please help.

try unplugging the cord for an hour or so. unplug it completely, from where it goes into the machine as well as the outlet. if that doesn't work, you could also try a pmu reset. instructions are found in part 6 of this article. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=34885 let me know if that makes any difference.

  • Pink flickering display problem

Hoping someone might be able to help. The screen on my Powerbook G4 15" 1.5Ghz (OS X 10.4.11) is a dark pink (almost black) and flickers. You can still just see the desktop and icons but only very faintly. Originally, it went pink only on start-up (or when the screen woke from sleep) when it would gradually 'warm up' to white. I now can only use it in clamshell mode with a Studio Display which doesn't have the pink problem . From reading other posts, I gather that this seems to suggest that there isn't a problem with the logic board, but maybe the backlight has gone, or a cable, or the inverter needs replacing. Has anyone had the same problem, and if so was one of these that was the problem, and were you able to fix it? I've looked at various online diy repair tutorials and reckon I could handle most of them, but I'd like to be as sure as possible that I'm replacing the rigt parts before undertaking the project. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Peter: I'm sure I wrote a reply to your post the day it first appeared here, but I guess I must have hit the Back button instead of the Post button after composing it. Sorry!
The fact that an external display works fine for you indicates definitively, as you've guessed, that your logic board (including the GPU) is working properly. The problem is with your display backlight. An old, tired fluorescent backlight tube is typically pink or reddish until it warms up, and a very old one may stay pink or reddish all the time. If your backlight is flickering, it may never warm up properly, so that may explain its continued pinkness. The flickering may be caused by a failing inverter (which supplies power to the backlight) or by a damaged backlight cable (damage can be caused by chafing where the cable passes through the display hinge) or, much less likely, by a failing backlight tube. In your shoes, I would begin by replacing the inverter to see whether that eliminates the flickering. Replacing either the cable or the backlight tube is much more involved, and I don't recommend those as DIY procedures.
Sarah: You haven't told us how your display is misbehaving, so I don't know whether or not my advice to Peter is on target for you too. Exactly what are you seeing on your built-in display, and what do you see when you connect an external display?

  • Display is sort of pink

Well I got my new Mac Mini today, and there seems to be a problem, when I hooked my LCD display that used to be hooked up to my old G4 the colors looked like they were Redish, even while the computer is booting, the screen is some sort of greyish pink
now my display is a VGA so I'm using the DVI-to-VGA adapter that came in the box, now I know it's not the screen since I plugged it again to the old G4 and everything seems fine, what's more I also bought a DVI-to-Video(SVHS/Composite) adaptor, and when I hook the Mini to my TV the colors are fine
could the problem be the DVI-to-VGA adapter?

    the plot thickens
I tried to hook up the adapter to a PC and it worked fine, now I don't believe it's the Mac since the DVI to Video adapter works fine, but I did notice one thing, the DVI to Video adatpor is longer then the DVI to VGA adaptor, meaning that prehaps the DVI to VGA can't go all the way in, could that be it?
