Pink screen when I switch on my mac

There is a problem after the latest update before yesterday. When I switch on my iMac, there is a pink screen before login to the desktop. Just half second then back to the normal white and grey color. I called apple care, they taught me to press shift key to login to the safe mode, however it cannot fix the problem, may I know if my iMac was damaged? Please help me, thank you.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).

We need to get you moved. This forum is for mini-tower Macs built between 1998 and 2005 and doesn;t get as much traffic ("eyeballs on the problem") as the forums for newer Macs.
Please do "About this Mac" from you Apple menu and tell us what that says for "processor" and Mac OS version. Looks like this:
or this for later Mac OS versions:
With that we can figure out which of the two iMac forums you need and get the Hosts to move your post.

First, remove Comodo. You don't need it, and it sounds like it is causing a problem.
The other symptoms sound like you have adware installed. Comodo might have detected some components of that adware, or it might not have, but whatever the case, you should NEVER allow any anti-virus software to quarantine or delete files from your computer. See: How to remove infected files.
Regarding the adware, see my Adware Removal Guide.

One possibility, is a strange occurence when applying the big 10.5.8 combo, most people have to Repair Permissions twice in a row, then reboot.

  • Hi guys I deleted my extension"bitdefender antivirus"but when I switch on my mac safari open up itself asking to instal the extension above what can I do to avoid this pain in the behind? Thanks

hi guys I deleted my extension"bitdefender antivirus"but when I switch on my mac safari open up itself asking to instal the extension above what can I do to avoid this pain in the behind? Thanks

Uninstall "BitDefender" completely, not just the Safari extension.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to reboot in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, the uninstallation may have no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Verify the issue is not content related, by viewing different content.
If the image is too dark, adjust the brightness. In General Settings choose Brightness and Wallpaperand slide the slider.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • 2014 Mac Mini shows pink screen when waking

I have a 2014 3Ghz i7 mac mini which I have attempted to connect two different Asus monitors via two different HDMI cables in multiple configurations. Regardless of the connection combination when the mac awakes from sleep or from the screensaver (to show the login screen) the screen shows up as bright pink and I can barely make out the password box.
Turning off the monitor and turning it back on corrects the problem as does waiting about 10 seconds for the monitor to go out of sync and return. After this time the issue goes away until the computer sleeps or I enter the sleep saver again and have to re-login.
    Is anyone else encountering this?
PRAM and SMC have been reset already.

I don’t know if this solves the pink screen problem, whatever it is. I’m not a techie so this is all I can offer.
I got my Mini end of December and the pink screen problem just started now. I had no pink screen until I went to change the Sleep / Wake settings. Then I started getting the pink screen with desktop barely showing through. So think when / if you changed your settings from the default. Maybe your problem started after that.
Returning settings to default doesn't fix it. I also tried to check / uncheck different sleep / wake settings, but didn't work either.
I have the latest Mac Mini 3 GHz
Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM Yosemite 10.10.2.
External ASUS PA248 monitor via HDMI.
I know everyone has different set-ups with slight variations in the problem, but maybe this will help some people. It seem to have worked to solve the pink from appearing, but I don’t think it has solved he actual problem. At least if I have to go to my computer every half hour, I don’t have to wear out my monitor button by having to turn it on all the time just to get rid of the pink screen.
I know people want their Mini to sleep but for these instructions your Mini will have to remain awake all the time.
This is my monitor set up.
Screen saver set to go on in 10 minutes.
Monitor shuts off in 15 minutes.
The Mini stays on all the time, no sleep or wake cycles.
    1. Go to ENERGY SAVINGS
    2. The only thing I have checked is, “Prevent the computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off. Leave the rest unchecked".
    3.  Then go to SCHEDULE Uncheck these,
START UP OR WAKE and SLEEP settings.
    Hit OK
    Exit ENERGY SAVINGS.
Let your monitor turn off, come back later. Sit down and re-try to to turn on your desktop. DON'T click away on your mouse or move it back and forth furiously like you want your desktop to load RIGHT NOW. Well I did that and the system didn't like that and the pink was back. It seems the system needs a few seconds to load up the desktop. Click the mouse button once, or move the mouse a a TINY bit. Wait a bit and the desktop should appear WITH NO PINK SCREEN, hopefully.
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows 8.1 U1 bug with unresponsive start screen when fast-switching users

While testing out the bug described here ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/c9a3c605-9e7f-47ce-84ec-791a1627ebf0/windows-81-u1-hiding-taskbar-in-multimonitors-setup-bug?forum=w8itprogeneral ), I've found another bug - if the secondary
monitor is lower than the main one, start screen becomes completely unresponsive when fast switching users. You can click on any tiles, on start in lower left corner or try searching apps - it does nothing. Here's the screen recording http://1drv.ms/1k8au8O
. The secondary screen is usable at the same time, and sometimes you can run start screen on it (in such a case, it disappears on main screen and appears on secondary screen, but is also unresponsive), or you can't click at start icon at all (it appears highlighted
in the taskbar and doesn't response to clicks).
MSFT's testers should test such a setup a bit more, I think.

    Hi,
What’s your meaning of secondary monitor is lower than the main one?
I test the dual screen, fast user switching works good, so what’s your condition?

  • I want the 'Inbox' available on screen when I switch on (default).

The 'Inbox' is not readily available and can only be activated by using the arrows at the top which is a cumbersome and irksome practice. I require the 'Inbox' to be readily available when I switch on, as well as a quick way of obtaining it should the need exist. A relatively simple issue which I have not been able to solve. Any assistance would be much appreciated - and if the information was successful it would be regarded as a very nice Christmas present!!!!!

All of the folders that you mention are gmail created ones. The important and the starred can be eliminated if you go to the gmail site and work on them thee. At least I think you can.
All Mail is just what it says. You eliminate it and ALL you mail goes. This is another gmail thing.
You can unsubscribe with the all mail folder or any other IMAP created folder if you do not want to see them.

  • White bar shows at the top of the screen when dvd played on a mac.

    Hi,
I am using DVDSP 3. When I play the dvd on a mac there is a white bar at the top of the screen saying the marker names. If I watch the same dvd on the dvd player hooked up with my tv, it plays fine and does not show any extra area the white bar at the top. Is there any way I can prevent this from happening?

Do worry about it. It sounds like you have coded with the "text track" of the .mov file left superimposed onto the pictures. If you open your original .mov in Quicktime, you can turn off the text track. Then save a reference Quicktime file, and then use this to make your .mp2. Alternatively, change your marker settings when you do a FCP playout (assuming you are using FCP) - turn off the marker export; or make sure that you have chosen compatible settings for your version of DVD SP3. Also, you can write down the timecodes, and put your Chapter markers into DVD SP3 by hand.

  • Pink screen when exported mpg is played

when I populate my timeline with video clips and audio and effects, it seems like the render bar is only over the effects and the odd clip, so when I export my project and try to play it the whole screen is a pink color except the effects and the clips that have the render bar over them, it doesn't matter wether the bar is red or green. I haven't had this problem before, what could I be doing wrong?

Thanks for the reply, I am a newbie to video editting and don't really understand how it works, but I shoot the video on my Sony HDR-SR1 camera and upload the clips (.m2ts files) to my computer, then I import the files into PPro and drag the clips into the timeline, then I unlink the file to separate the audio from the video, so I can record my own voice track, when I have the clips, audio and effects the way I want them I export to a MPEG2 format and the Preset is Custom, and I change the size from 1440 x 1080 to 720 x 540 (my attempt to reduce file size), when the export is done I play the mpg file with Windows Media Player and the audio plays fine but parts of the video is completely pink, I went back to the project file and noticed the clips that didn't have the render line (red) were the parts that were pink and the clips and effects that had the red render line over them played fine.
My computer is an Intel Quad Core 3.00 GHz, with 8.00 GB or RAM,  running Windows Vista 64-bit.
    I hope this helps,
    Mike
