Pinkish glow around mouse pointer on external screen.

Since the last update (10.9.1) my mid-2012 macbook air started showing a very peculiar behaviour.
Only when connected to an external monitor and waking up from sleep, the mouse pointer on the external monitor comes with a pinkish glow. Very annoying.
Details:
- it only appears within the external monitor, if the pointer is moved into the macbook screen the defect disappear.
- to make it go away, it is enough to unplug and re-plug the external monitor
- it seems that the shadow and the aliasing around the mouse pointer receives the wrong hue on the ext monitor, but mine is only a guess.
- connection thunderbolt (original apple adapter to dvi)
- monitor iiyama prolite B2409HDS
- it started with the update to 10.9.1. NEVER had a problem before that (since 10.8)
any thoughts? Is there anybody out there with the same issue?

Same Issue here. See picture below:
Mac details:
Processor  2 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel Iris Pro
Software  OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
HDMI Cable connected to LG LCD TV
I'm not sure but it could be that I have started experiencing this glow since a Mavericks update ( I didn't have this issue the first months after upgrading to Mavericks).....

  • Mouse Freezing on external screen?

Ever since I have been using my laptop with an external screen, it seems like the mouse freezes for a few seconds, then it starts working again. I don't know if this is the actual computer freezing or the mouse? Can anyone help me understand why this happens. I only have a 1gb of ram. Could that be reason? I am not really opening to many programs.

  • Mouse pointer disappears when screen sharing

When I use Back To My Mac from work to screen share my home Mac the pointer disappears. When I first connect and put the screen sharing window into full screen mode (into a separate space) everything is fine. I can then switch back to my current Macs screen and the mouse pointer is still working. But when I switch back to the screen sharing space the pointer is gone.

    yes! i have this problem.
the difference is that it only happens when I'm using my thunderbolt display.
i have an mb air and a mbp retina. there is no issue until i'm connected to it - then i get this freeze issue during screen share and my hidden dock won't appear.
i've had 2 calls with applecare to date. will update you after my next call
    have you had any luck?

  • Gray squares around mouse pointer

We have a macbook pro 15".  Occasionally the computer stops responding and there are gray squares around the mouse pointer as we move the cursor.  I called tech support and they said it was out of warrantee.   Any help here is appreciated..  I tried resetting the macbook (taking out the battery etc.) still have the problem.
    thanks

Arghh - Universal Access, Zoom, Box follows mouse pointer!
Don't know why I never spotted it earlier - maybe because it's not something I've ever used or needed to switch on.
Weird it was on after the update though!

  • Mouse Pointer Jumps to Screen Corners

    Greetings,
I have been having this problem since I got my G5 a month ago. Some times I'll be moving the mouse and all of a sudden the pointer on the screen will jump to either the top right corner or bottom left corner of the screen even though I'm no where near those areas. I am using the mighty mouse and keyboard that came with the computer.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening? It's very annoying.
Also, sometimes the pointer will change to that rainbow animated circle and I won't be able to use the computer for a couple of seconds. Does anyone know what that might be as well?
    Thanks in advance,
    Russ

Mouse jumping to corners is usually a reflection problem with the laser, use a different pad/whatever. Clean the lense.
The SBBOD (spinning beachball of death) can be caused by numerous reasons.
The program your using, the network your using, the internet, a slow/filled boot drive, too little or bad RAM, bad OS/app install or migration assistant screwups.
The networks stuff you can find out right away if it's the cause by disconnecting and rebooting.
A backup with a DU>erase w/zero from the installer disk, followed by a fresh install, update and install of apps from fresh cd's (not migration assistant)0 with files from backup, will do wonders.
A stock Quad is powerful CPU wise, but if it doesn't have enough RAM, and/or the boot drive is too big and filled up, Mac OS X performance will suffer terribly and these things will cause bottlenecks.
I have a performance text download you can take a look at, I don't see Spinning Beachballs

  • Series of 8 characters appearing under my mouse pointer

i have a mac... mid 2007. no problems with it ever in the last 7 years. today...about 2 hours ago...i started to see a weird series of 8 strange unidentifiable characters appearing under my mouse pointer on my screen... it just moves right along trailing my pointer around. does anyone know what this is...and how to get rid of this annoying pain in the butt. i checked thru my mac downloads looking for any weird downloads...but i see nothing out of ordinary...and i am normally pretty cautious about links and weird ads online and i never click on them. my mac had 500 gig hard drive...and i still have 400 remaining after 7 years. anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this problem. i thought it was the mouse batteries or the mouse itself so i swapped around with another... but its not the mouse. please help. thanks.

  • Setting the position of the mouse pointer

    Hi,
I want to explicitly set the mouse pointer to an definded location, e.g. when a window is opened.
Is there a method I can invoke or a work around to set the mouse pointer to, say, posx = 100 and posy = 150?
Are there any other manipulating methods such as pressing the mouse button?
    thanx,
    SirRuberth

    yes.
You can do all that and much more with the java.awt.Robot class
    (new in java 1.3)
    void mouseMove(int x, int y)
Moves mouse pointer to given screen coordinates.
    void mousePress(int buttons)
Presses one or more mouse buttons.
    void mouseRelease(int buttons)
Releases one or more mouse buttons.

  • After upgrade I have a black display showing only the mouse pointer

I just installed the Windows 10 Technical Preview on my Lenovo W540 laptop.  The installation appeared to to go just fine and I did not see anything that should cause any issues.  Now that it is complete, my display is black and I see the mouse
pointer on the screen.  I can move the mouse just fine, but nothing else will display when moving the mouse.  If I hit <ctrl><alt><del> then our domain banner page will flash on the display but I can't hit the OK button to get to
my login prompt.  Has anyone seen this before?  What can I do to resolve this issue?  Any suggestions out there?

  • Mouse pointer jumping around the screen

My mouse pointer has just started jumping around the screen. It vibrates and slowly moves down the screen even if I am not touching it. I have cleaned the sensor but that has not helped. I unplugged it and the pointer still jumped around.
Any ideas what might be causing this as I have not seen quite this problem on other discussions.

    HI,
That's interesting... restart your iMac. See if that makes a difference.
Also, do you have anything nearby that might cause interference, like a cell phone or graphics tablet?
May sound crazy, but dust and lint build up on a mouse pad can cause erratic cursor behavior.
You could try deleting this file.
    com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your iMac.

  • Mouse pointer jumping around screen!

hey guys, iv had my iMac for around a year now and only recently iv noticed that the mouse pointer just jumps randomly across the screen when i move it, like ill be moving the mouse to the right and itll jump across half the screen to the left.
It happens at least once an hour or something like that and only seems to happen when im move the mouse quite quickly. im using a laser wired mighty mouse that come with my 20" iMac which is around a year old, thanks.

    Hello again Beanie_,
Is yours, the iMac, the 2.4Ghz version? My own iMac does this " trick " every now and then. There are several threads about the issue here in Apple Discussions and a veritable mountain of information inside Google.
Regards once more and now, I trust, you will see why I asked my 1st question!
    Ian.

  • Mouse pointer jumps around screen

My Emac mouse pointer jumps aroung the screen. I have tried restarting and a permissions repair. I'm still having the problem. Any ideas?
    Emac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Is this the original Apple mouse? Do you have any third-party mouse drivers installed? (Look in System Preferences under "Other"). Presumablly you've tried adjusting the mouse sensitivity in System Preferences; have you also checked if the mouse if jumpy in other user accounts? If you can, try a different USB mouse on the eMac to ccheck it's not the hardware.
You can test if the mousing surface is at fault by using a plain sheet of heavyweight bond paper as a mouse pad. If that resolves the issue, try the tip first suggested in the eMac Discussions by Ron Jackle: use a plain floor tile as a mouse pad. You want one that's non-glossy, fairly plain, and not too refelctive. I've got such tiles in use on several computers (Macs, PCs, and Unix), using a light tan 8x10 tile from Home Depot, label 8x10-5202, SKU 3057645425, which retails for about US$1 (I recall the last one beint 89 cents plus tax) when bought one at a time.
p.s. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

  • Black screen after waking from sleep, but mouse pointer visible

I'm not sure if this is the same as the many other posts on problems connecting the Mac Mini to an external monitor. In my case, after it wakes, there is no login menu - but the mouse pointer is visible and I can move it around the screen no problem.
At present, I have to power the Mac Mini down and back up again, which is unacceptable.
What's causing this and how can I fix it?

Yes, I have this problem too. I reported to Apple about 3 or 4 weeks ago. They said no one else ever reported it and said they would escalate it but they have never got back too me. It is a pain because my mini is a media center pc and hard to get to when this happens.
For now the work around I use is to unplug the mini dvi connecter and plug it back in; this fixes the issue until the next time it happens.
+My mini (2009 version) is connected using the mini-dvi connector to a Denon receiver (with a DVI->hdmi connector) which is then connected to a sony 1080p TV. This replaced an older mini (intel duo) which did not have this problem using the same setup.+

  • W530, W7-64: external monitor is dark except for mouse pointer

    Hello,
I'm starting to experience this problem. Initially I had no problems with using an external monitor, but now I cannot use it. When I switch to the external monitor, the screen is dark, except for the mouse pointer which moves correctly.. Anyone know the cause of this problem?
    Regards,
    bostjanv

I have had same problems using NVIDA Q2000K when using Windows 8.  Try configuring with NVIDA instructions for multiple displays as follows:
     ThinkPad W530       NVIDIA Quadro K1000M or NVIDIA Quadro K2000M           - Computer's analog VGA connector           - Docking Station's analog VGA connector           - Computer's DisplayPort connector           - Docking Station's DVI connector(s) or DisplayPort connector(s)
Intel HD Graphics Family           - (Computer's LCD)
    DUAL ADAPTER CLONE
Dual Adapter Clone is a technology where display output from one display   adapter is cloned to another display adapter. This feature is unique for   NVIDIA Optimus Technology starting from second generation Optimus technology.   The only difference between cross adapter clone and traditional clone is that   the former involves two display adapters while the latter involves only one.
HOW TO CONFIGURE DUAL ADAPTER CLONE
Dual Adapter Clone is only supported and be configured in NVIDIA Control Panel.   As an example, the procedure below describes the steps on how to configure the   dual adapter clone. Remember that the dual adapter clone involves two   different graphics devices, so the 'Display Topology' section above will give   you an idea which combinations can support dual adapter clone, otherwise, it   is considered as a traditional clone.
The procedure below assumes to use the LCD and DisplayPort monitor connected   to the computer.   1. Attach a DisplayPort monitor to the computer.   2. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, and on the left pane, select 'Setup multiple      displays' under 'Display' tree.   3. On the right panel, under 'Select the display you want to use', check both      LCD and DisplayPort monitor.   4. Under 'Verify your display configuration', right click on either the LCD or      DisplayPort display icon.   5. Select 'Duplicate with 1 (use 2 as source)' then click Apply.
Note: The Dual Adapter Clone can not be enabled by using the Windows display         control panel or the Intel's display control panel.
Windows 8 also disabled my NVIDA Q2000K and I had to restore it.  I hope this was helpful.
