Pinnacle TV for Mac HD Stick on a Dual G4 MDD

The system requirements for the Pinnacle TV for Mac HD Stick say that to view HDTV with the device, a dual G5 or Intel chip Mac is required. Has any G4 owner bought this device and successfully received HDTV programming (as opposed to just receiving Standard Definition digital TV programming)?
If I could watch OTA HDTV on my Dual 1.25 MHz G4 MDD, I'd strongly consider purchasing this device.
Thanks in advance,
Carl B.

If not the Pinnacle TV for Mac HD Stick how about anyone using the Elgato Systems EyeTV Hybrid? It has the same system requirements for viewing HDTV as does the Pinnacle unit. Anyone get HDTV with one of those on a MDD G4?

  • Has anyone used a Pinnacle TV for Mac HD Stick

    Hi,
I was looking into this product and was thinking about getting it for my powerbook G4 1.67 Ghz. I know it came out about 2008 and is now discontinued but all new TV viewer programs require an Intel mac. With this one you can use a G4/G5 and Intel.

  • Acrobat Pro XI for Mac- only wants to print dual sided, option to deselect not present

Hi folks- same problem was happening on Acrobat Pro x, so i returned it.
Chat won't help on old version, nor on trial of new version, why would i buy it if it can't be fixed i queried, they didn't care.

    David,
Wow, it worked. Many thanks. This is what I did, following your directions to print PDF files as double-sided:
    01-Command P & Click "Printer button".
    02-Click Yes.
03-Click the Popup Arrow to display contents.
04-Select Two-sided "Long-Edge binding" or whatever needed and Click Print.
    05-Click OK to Print.
What fooled me is that from Word (.doc) files the screen on step 3 and 4 show directly selecting a popup menu on the initial print window, whereas when printing PDF files it is required to go through steps 1-2-3 above.
Again, many thanks. You made my day!!!

  • Purchased a flight stick that is not for Mac but PC  How do I use this

I purchased a Hotas X flight stick to go with a software app Mac version of xPlane 10.  I am more of windows user and now starting to transition over to the Mac for the graphics.  In the middle of trying to set up the flight stick I realized it was marked for PC and Playstation.  So what choices do I have to use the MAC software and Windows flight stick?
checked for MAC compatible sticks but none that are the quality of this one.
    I need help

any suggestions on a good one ?  I thought MAC was so good for graphics and you would have thought that a manufacturer would be all over MAC compatibility.  I wondered if I used bootcamp to set up the windows side if that would have been an otpion?

  • Has Anyone Used the Pinnacle TV for Macbook Tuner?

I saw this product at the store yesterday and I'm wondering how well it works for recording TV programs and possibly movies onto my macbook. I am hoping it performs similar to a DVR, and I am also wondering if it would be possible to burn these programs onto DVDS? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i recently got it... it works great! only problem is it comes with eyetv lite, so you have to pay extra to upgrade to the full version of eyetv that allows exporting to diff ipod and apple tv formats.
The nice thing about the pinnacle compared to the elgato eyetv hybrid is that pinnacle tv for mac hd comes with a remote and a portable antenna. The pinnacle is also black so it matches my black macbook.
So yes it records well, but is limited by the "lite" software. Only issue is that u can only record at whatever resolution its coming in at. tv shows can get as big as 4gb for 1hr. you can burn it to dvds also but i think you need toast titanium.

  • Why must it be "made for mac" ram?

Would anyone like to shed some light on this subject?
This is a little confusing, isn’t ram just ram? the specks are exactly the same:
G4 ram in G4 Tower OSX4.11, calls for-- pc 133 sdram 64 bit, non buffer, 168 pin-- so why not the $10 stick rather than the “made for mac” $30 stick?
I do know that mixing brands and sizes is a bad idea, I get that OSX is PICKY, but if All the ram is replaced with matching units . . . .

If a person really wanted to, they could put all 4 of the same pc-ram in and it would function... BUT it would be prone to "glitchyness" AKA not nearly as reliable and care free as "for Mac ram"
This "glitchyness" is often the case.
because the OS itself requires accuracy to function optimally, it also requires all of the hardware involved to be equally accurate.
Not only the OS, but also the machines firmware.
There are strict controls to insure that RAM meets the requirements for proper operation, and error free data handling.
One big difference between cheap PC RAM and Mac compatible RAM, is the chip density.
Cheap RAM typically uses fewer, high density chips to make the RAM boards cheaper to build. The high density chips, though, do not have the physical addressing characteristics that Mac firmware requires.
These chips are often of poorer quality, as compared to lower density chips, due to mass production for maximum profit.
Mac RAM uses low to medium density chips. Not only are more chips required, but, typically, the lower density chips run at a higher quality level, from a production stand point.
Another key element in the successful use of any DIMM in a Mac, is the proper coding of the EEPROM on the RAM. Without the proper coding, the SPD (Serial Presence Detect) may fail, or, may result in incorrect parameters being applied to the RAM.
Many of the budget PC memory DIMMs, don't have the proper EEPROM coding, which results in anything from failure to detect (no RAM seen) to incorrect reporting of the DIMM.
    weakest link
Those in the know understand the poor quality RAM can do a system much harm. More problematic, is the data corruption that can occur due to data handling errors within a poor quality DIMM. Since every bit of data, and every command line will pass through the RAM, it is important to have high quality, accurately programmed and timed memory.
Apple engineers recognize this, thereby the stricter requirements, first, at the firmware level, and second, at the OS level.
This demand for quality and specification adherence, helps everyone.

  • Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac

After talking with a bunch of salesmen (considering getting a DvD writer), I took the advice of someone in the Apple Store and bought a Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac to copy my laserdiscs. It was $100 before tax, and didn't do stuff I don't plan on doing anyway. I did spend another $25 to get an S-video cable.
I installed the software and connected it up to my LD. I started capturing the movie, and selected S-Video (although in the small window they showed, I didn't see any difference between that and video out. I selected a max time from a limited selection, and let it record.
After a while, I went downstairs and saw that the audio and video were not synchronized at all. I let it continue.
After a while I came down again, and the movie was finished, so I stopped it. I found the MP4 - it was in the iTunes movie directory, and played it in iTunes. I fast-forwarded it to near the end, the voice and video were way off-set.
I haven't tried burning this yet.
Quicktime player doesn't think this is a valid movie file. I selected "open with" and "other" and the recommended applications had iMovie greyed out.
Why in the world would the audio and video record at different speeds?
Do I have to buy software to edit the movie down to the correct size?
    My Mac has:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.21f4
I noticed the Pinacle Video Capture program was still running, so I tried to quit it, and got a window asking for my administrator ID and passsword to allow Pinnacle Video Capture to make changes. Why?

The audio drifted out of sync because the Dazzle doesn't support locked audio. For short videos (say, under 10 minutes) this won't be very noticeable but when you capture longer videos it becomes progressively worse over time.
What do you want to do with your Laserdisk copies? Watch them on your iPod? Edit and/or burn to DVD?
A device like the Canopus ADVC-110 will do the video/audio conversion properly, keeping the audio and video in sync regardless of the length of your video. It converts to DV, not to MP4, and you would use it with iMovie or Final Cut (not iTunes). However you can export your video from iMovie or Final Cut to iPod/AppleTV formats.
The Dazzle device will not work directly with iMovie or Final Cut.
ps. If all you really want to do is transfer your Laserdisc videos to DVDs, it will be a whole lot faster & simpler to get a DVD player/recorder that has analog inputs and record directly to DVDs. There are many brands & models to choose from and many good ones are as inexpensive as the $100 you spent on the Pinnacle converter.

Sorry, yes this is Microsoft Excel.  The Microsoft XP has Excel files denoted as xl, the later versions of Microsoft Excel are denoted as xls files.  The later verions of Microsoft Excel open the xl files OK, does Excel for Mac not able to do this?

    All,
A very interesting NOTE to this thread. In order to try and get the "ignore permissions" box to show up in GET INFO (so I could execute Matt the Magician's solution to file sharing issues)-- I ran the terminal command for disabling ACLs on my internal HD / start up disk (as indicated in the linked thread to BDAqua's forum).
Although I understand that this was useless for disabling permissions on the start up disk (as everyone here pointed out) and allowing me to see the "ignore permissions" check box - somehow it did seem to fix my file sharing problem...and that was the root problem I wanted solved in the first place! After doing the terminal command and a quick reboot, I went in and tested file sharing on the chosen directory and I can create new files or work from existing files in the directory, with both users being able to modify / and save from both machines and each machine sees the revisions and can build from them. Bottom line - I'm stoked and want to thank everyone for their help.
The only other tweak I made was going over to my wife's machine and instead of using her log in / password, I just used my name and password to connect to my main machine that was sharing directories. Maybe that's what fixed the problem or the ACL disable but either way...I'm up and running the way I want to be.
Hope this thread helps anyone else who has these file sharing / permissions issues with Leopard. Especially for anyone wanting to do such a simple file sharing set up between 2 computers. I wish I understood exactly which tweak fixed the problem, but at least it works the way I want now.
So happy to be done w/this one!
Thx everyone. Any additional input on what solved it is welcome, so my curiosity is quelled...

  • How pinnacle can be used for streaming video for mac app?

How pinnacle can be used for streaming video for mac app?

    Hi naturalfemale,
As mentioned in the referring article, closed captioning content has to be specifically added/enabled to a video for closed captioning to function:
    Additional Information
Not all videos include caption or subtitle tracks. Check the documentation for the video you are using to see if it includes these features.
OS X: Using captioning features in Mavericks

At the moment, I do not believe there is an option for universal captioning.

  • Hi i have just purchased a mac pro. ive installed word for mac as i wanted to transfer word documents from a windows pc, which are ona usb stick. however i cannot open the usb stick. can anyone tell me what im doing wrong!

Hi, I've bought a mac pro and installed word for mac, as i wanted to transfer word documents to the new pc. I saved the documents ona usb stick but I cannot open the documents from the stick. What am i doing wrong?
    thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, check that you are looking for your USB drive in the correct place. To do it, first connect the USB drive. Then, open a Finder window (press the left icon of Dock) and choose your USB drive on the Finder sidebar, under "Devices". Finally, just copy the documents you need to the internal disk.
If you want to show the USB drive in Desktop, open Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and tick "External drives"

  • I have an external drive - WD My Passport FOR MAC. I want to format it to work on both mac and windows. Which format do you think I should use? Will either one cause damage to the files on the hard drive?

I have an external hard drive - WD My Passport FOR MAC. I want to format it to work on both mac and windows. I also want to be able to connect it to my TV and watch movies.
I read up and I think I am supposed to use exFAT or FAT32? I also saw MS-DOS. Which format should I should use? Will any of them cause damage to the files on the hard drive?
My little memory stick uses MS-DOS and it works on both mac and windows.
Please can you just tell me a little about each and suggest which one to use.
I know how to change it once you tell me so don't waste your time writing about changing it.

Will any of them cause damage to the files on the hard drive?
WARNING: FORMATTING A DRIVE ERASES IT COMPLETELY !!
If you need to carry large files (e.g., larger than about 4GB) back and forth, you may need ExFAT. Otherwise MS-DOS works for smaller files.
The Mac can Read, but not write Windows New Technology File System (NTFS) without an add-on program such as Paragon NTFS.

  • Windows for Mac hangs frequently,  how can I stop this?

I have Windows for Mac 98, and lately I have been using that a lot to type some papers, usually for seven hours a day for long stretches. What has happened is that at least once a day, the Windows program suddenly freezes without any warning, and the beachball starts spinning. I can't do anything to stop this from happening. I usually wait a few minutes and then go to Force-Quit and shut it down (the message in Force-Quit is that Word is not responding). I can usually recover some of the work when I go to Microsoft (Auto) Recovered Documents but usually I have lost a lot of the work I have done.
After this happening regularly, I started to save the work frequently, and hoped that if it crashed again, I could at least save all the work I had done. However, despite doing this, the recovered file had not saved the work until the most recent save, which I thought was strange.
As my work involves frequent typing in Word documents, this is a big worry.
I type .doc and .docx documents using Windows but from my recall (but I am not sure about this), both types of documents are involved in this problem.
How does this problem arise? Does it have to do with the memory? The Windows is using up too much memory perhaps? Would it be the same with Pages? I don't recall this ever happening with Pages but I suppose I haven't typed really long documents in Pages yet.
My computer is MBA version 3.2. I usually have other programs running at the same time: two browser windows, Pages, iTunes, vlc, Skype, and a program for using wifi with a USB stick. I should close as many programs as I can, I suppose while I am working in Windows, I suppose. Anything else I can do?
Saving frequently helps but not as much as I thought it would.
Does it have to do with my using .doc documents in this Windows program which is a .docx program? Should I install the older Windows for Mac program on the computer? Can I run the two versions of Windows for Mac simultaneously on my computer?

  • Outlook 2011 for Mac / Synching issues

    Hi there,
it seems that I'm not alone with 'issues' in synching Outlook for Mac 2011 with mobile devices..
The setup I am trying to arm wrestle into submission is
MacBook Air (brand new) Mavericks 10.9.3
    iPhone 5 iOS 7.1.1.
    Outlook 2013 (brand new)
I've been able to succesfully import all of my email (from a previous version in windows) as well as get the contacts and the calendars imported onto Outlook for Mac, but am at my wits end to get them all talking to each other.
Outlook won't sync to the iPhone for mail, contacts and or calendar, nor visa versa.
I've read literally thousands of posts all suggesting this fix and that fix to no avail. I'm now reading that perhaps mavericks is not compatible with outlook synching services or outlook synching services isn't compatible with mavericks. I'm not trying to lay blame to either side as I'm simply looking for a solution.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Paul
oh - Apple Migration Tool.... is appalling in my opinion, it did sweet bugger all.

Minor correction. It's Outlook 2011, Outlook 2013 is the Windows version.
    Sync Basics
CalDAV & CardDAV are protocols used by Apple, Google, Yahoo and others to sync contacts and calendars. Neither Entourage 2008 nor Outlook 2011 support CalDAV or CardDAV.
You can no longer sync with any third-party apps running on your Mac that use Sync Services, like Entourage or Outlook.
If you want to stick with Outlook, I suggest you look at Office 365 Exchange. Otherwise, moving to Apple Mail, Contacts and Calendar with iCloud might be a better option for you.
Until Microsoft adds CalDAV and CardDAV support to Outlook, there is no way to sync other than get an Exchange account. It's $4/month Exchange Online.

  • Outlook 2011 for Mac syncing with OSX Yosemite

    Hi All
One major thing holding me back from updating to Mavericks and Yosemite is the seeming lack of support for syncing between Office 2011 for mac and the mac address book/calendar etc. I've been down the road of internet based mail with gmail and mac-mail but find them awful to use in comparison with Outlook. The functionality is not as good, simple things like capitalising first letters of sentences. Signatures look awful, fonts default etc etc and it just generally looks amateurish from the recipient end. I decided long ago to stick with Outlook 2011 but back then I could sync addresses, emails, contacts with address book and ical hassle free at the touch of a button. I am still running 10.8.5 on the office machine for this very reason and scared to update to Mavericks or Yosemite as I've done on my back-up machine and can see this no longer is supported. Can anyone help with this? I assume as it was once supported and now isn't its unlikely to be resupported. What should I do? I hate the idea of third party applications to get this to work. In the past this has lead to things being messed up and hours spent resetting. There was talk of Office for Mac 2014 but nothing seems to have materialised? Any thoughts/recommendations gratefully received...

I use Office 2011 on the Mac, and the absence of syncing contacts is a pain. For a while now I've use OS X Mail instead, which by and large handles Exchange email ok. Since Yosemite, my Mac email has gone downwards, so I'm not trying Airmail 2 which also has Exchange support and is a good deal more modern than Mac Mail. There is no sign of Microsoft ever updating Office for the Mac and catching up with three years of not updating Office 2011, apart from the occasional hint.
With Yosemite, Mail crashes, and looking at the log messages is having issues. I've done a clean install of Yosemite, and despite that still can't achieve stability. It may be me, or it may be Apple, hence the experiment with Airmail 2.
I have also not found any simple way to sync Outlook 2011 contacts with OS X Contacts in Mavericks or Yosemite.
