Pinned Top Sites Not Pinning

So I've just installed Safari 5.1 on my Windows 7 64-bit. And I have to say, I absoultley love it so far, except for this one dilemma I'm experiencing. Everytime I pin a site onto 'Top Sites' and then close the browser, when I open Safari again the site is gone. But, it's only having trouble with one site, the other sites I've pinned stay pinned. Can someone please help? All other answers I've seen online unfortunately result into installing a new browser. In which, I've already tried Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Opera and none of them work with my needs. Also, do you think it's the site's issue or Safari's?
Thank you in advance
P.S. I've also tried re-installing Safari, but the problem is still the same

Hey guys.
Need to join the desperate team. My Top sites wont allow any other manually added site - it will get deleted right after i restart safari.
I have checked the other forums where were suggestion for binning the com.apple.safari and top sites plist - doesn't work. Standard cleaning procedure like emptying cash, reseting safari or not too standard binning some preferences files - not working. None of them is in banned sites - i binned it also
I need to add its a new thing because it was working until last week. Maybe some updates could damage something, though i can remember any new updates in last two weeks. Please be geeks, find the answare, it was very cool feature and its pitty its not working.

  • Safari removing pinned top site???

There is one website that I recently added to my top sites. I pinned it, as I do to all of my top sites. The website will stay in my top sites for a few days, and then it will suddenly disappear. I'll re-add it, and it'll disappear again. I've repeated this whole process several times. What is wrong with my Safari top sites?
Safari 7.0.6 on a Macbook Air.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If thata doesn't help, back to the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the desktop.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test again. If that helped, move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash.
And make sure your Mac's OS X softtware is up to date. Click the Apple  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.

  • Top Sites Not Visible When Safari is Opened by a Link

When Safari is opened via a link, such as a link within an email, clicking on the Top Site button in the menu bar does not show my Top Sites (the starting web page remains visible). The Top Sites are there because you can click in the location where you know a Top Site should be and you will go to that linked page. In order to get this working properly again, you have to close Safari and reopen. I have tried resetting Safari/Top Sites but no success. I hope this is clear; it's easier to demonstrate than to describe.

Since the problem started ocurring after installing another application, I would suspect something with that last installation. Without knowing more about the installations, I would not be able to help much. Did the other installation perhaps install another DLL of the same name? Try uninstalling the last app to see if the problem goes away.

  • Safari Top Sites Not Updating

My Top Sites is not self-updating. I no longer get the 'star' notice when a web page has been changed and the image shown on Top Sites is from my last visit to the site.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with the Top Sites thumbnails not updating themselves (without having to manually visit the site). It had been working, but now it has not for a couple months. I forget if it coincided with updating Safari to 4.0.5 or not; it seemed like it was right around that time.
I should also mention that my internet connection and setup have remained consistent from the time that it was working to now. I am not behind a firewall or proxy of any sort.
(Note to Jared_Dub: The blue star is shown on thumbnails that you placed there manually as opposed to your most visited pages which Safari automatically places. It has nothing to do with showing you if there have been changes to the page or not. Just thought I should clarify that point.)

  • Top Sites not an option

Ok, I have searched "Top Sites" in every way here, and all of them seem to head in the same direction, so I will ask mine more specifically.
I personally run Safari on all 3 of my Macs and my home PC with no issues, however when I tried to install Safari on my mothers PC, I cannot get the Top Sites, or Cover Flow (but I'm not really concerned with for her,) to work for her.
    Info:
    System:
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 3
    -updates current (1.10.10)
    Computer:
    AMD Athalon(tm) Processor
1.66 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
    Hardware Device Manager:
    Display adapters
    RADEON 9000 Family (MS)
    -drivers current (1.10.10)
    DirectX9 websetup (1.10.10)
I have installed/deleted/reinstalled Safari 4.0.4+QuickTime for Windows XP, Vista or 7 several times. (1.10.10)
What I am left with is a fully functioning web browser save the Top Site/Cover Flow options. Here is a screen shot of my options panel open. There is no option to add it to the menu bar. You might notice I have tweeted Safari already, so I am aware of what to look for to add it to my bars.
    http://gallery.me.com/skipperlandry/100052/top%20sites%20screenshot
I have also tried to do the much posted:
"Quit Safari. Now go "Start > My Computer". In "My Computer", go "Tools > Folder Options" and click the "View" Tab. Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected. OK out of the Tab.
    Now Open Local Disk (C:).
    Open "Documents and Settings"
Open the folder that has the name of your user account on the PC.
    Open "Application Data"
    Open "Apple Computer"
    Open "Preferences"
Drag the com.apple.Safari file out onto the desktop.
Now launch Safari again. (This will rebuild your com.apple.Safari file.)
When it finally opens, can you see the Top Sites thingy in the Bookmarks bar next to the book, or the Top Sites button in the "View > Customise Toolbar" window?"
but I do not have the [com.apple.Safari file] in that location. What I do have is a file menu of:
    http://gallery.me.com/skipperlandry/100052/apple%20computer%20file%20meny
I did a Start>Search for com.apple.Safari forgot where I found it, but did manage to get it on my desktop. After running it, nothing changed.
I do hope I have given the information needed to figure this out, but if I have missed something, I would surly be happy to go get it.
    Skipper

Hi Skipper. It looks to me from your screenshot:
    http://gallery.me.com/skipperlandry/100052/apple%20computer%20file%20meny
... that you're looking in the wrong place for the com.apple.Safari file. In that screenshot, you're in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\ whereas you should be looking in C:\Documents and Settings\skipper\Application Data\Apple Computer\ for the prferences folder (assuming that Skipper is the name of the user account in which you're getting this behavior).
On the other hand, it sounds like you found it when you did the search.
Have you been able to determine whether or not this is a systemwide problem or a user-account-specific issue? (In other words, if you create a new user account with full administrative rights, log into it and try launching Safari, do you get Top Sites as an option? Or is it missing in the new user account too?)

  • Yosemite safari top sites not updating

Now that I am hooked on using Top Sites, it has stopped updating since I updated to Yosemite. Is there some setting I need to change? Sure can't find it in Pref

  • SCB-68 Pin#8 (+5V) not working

    Hello,
I am using PCIe-6321 DAQ and SCB-68 connector block to connect two stepper motor drivers and drive the stepper motors. I need to provide +5 volts to my driver in order to power the emitter diode in the opto-isolators in the drivers. I am able to get +5 volts from pin 14 of the SCB-68 but I am unable to get the +5 volts from the SCB-68. The Quick Reference Lable states the pin 8 as +5V, Fused. Can anyone suggest me what I am supposed to do in order to obtain the +5 volts from pin 8 of the SCB-68.
    Thanks,
    Bharath J S

So you can read 5V from pin 14, just not pin 8?  You may have a blown fuse on your DAQ board.  I'm not sure if there are seperate fuses for each output.

  • Gmail missing from top sites after closing Safari

This is becoming extremely frustrating. I constantly add Gmail to my top sites and pin it so it permanently remains there; however, once closing out of Safari it disappears. Anyone else having trouble with keep Gmail on their top sites?

I get the same thing...if I restart my computer or even quit and relaunch Safari, all my web-mail top sites are gone, replaced with the typical ever changing top sites. It only seems to do it with these types of sites, as all my other ones set to remain permanent always do.

  • Https (log in) pages and Top Sites...

I'm having trouble making any page that's https (such as log in pages) permanent in Top Sites. I get everything set up the way I want, quit, and upon restart, everything with https is gone, while my other permanent sites are still there as I left them.
Does Top Sites not allow https pages to be marked as permanent?
    Thanks

    Hi Rob,
    Try maintenance ...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
If Safari unexpectedly quits, it could be a 3rd party plugins causing the problem. Go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins. Move any 3rd party plugins to the Trash and restart your Mac.
Also, if you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Quit Safari then relaunch.
While you have the Get Info window open for Safari, make sure it's not running in Rosetta.
Keep your system software up to date. Go to the Apple Menu / Software Updates.
    Repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • What has happened to the blue star in Top Sites?

I recently updated from Safari 6.05 to 6.1 on my Macbook Air running OS 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion). I can live with the drab new look of Top Sites — not that I seem to have much choice in the matter. A feature that appears to have vanished, and which I greatly miss is the blue star in the upper right corner on the web pages in Top Sites which indicated a change in the web page since my last visit. Top Sites no longer appears to scan the pages; what I see now is the appearance of the page the last time I visited. Is there any way I can reactivate this function?

It should update the page automatically.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Safari/TopSites.plist
Click Go then move the TopSites.plist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. See if pages update automatically in Top Sites.

Is anyone else having an issue with the Top Sites not refreshing on Safari? v8

Many people are complaining about this, including me. To get this problem solved we need to all send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
