Pioneer dvdrw k17

I own an HP pavilion dv6627 lapto with a pioneer dvdr w k17 drive. I've been having problems with the drive for a long time but lately it has become a permanent deal.  Right now the drive is inoperable. It no longer reads or writes any kind of media. What gets to me is that in the device manager the drive is identified as being "PYO^EUR0_DVDRW0_0DVR=K170 ata device".
I've tried to uninstall and reinstall it many times and once it went back to it's correct id and worked, after that it changed the id again and has remained so no matter what.
Could this be a firmware problem? If so where is it available?
If i try to load a dvd it freezes the whole computer and I have to power it down and restart.
Any help would be apreciated.

Still have this problem and more now. Any help???

  • Opening Pioneer DVDRW drive door without power

I have a problem with my Pioneer DVDRW drive on my G5. When it closes with a disk in it it sounds like a mixmaster. I suspect I accidently placed one of the clear plastic protectors that come with a new stack of DVDs together with the disk in the drive. The disk ejected, but the plastic protector is still in there?
I have the drive out and figured I could open the drawer and shake whatever is in there out.
Problem is I don't know how to open the drawer without power?
I've ordered a new pioneer drive, but figure I can salvage the old one and put it in another machine.

Thanks much. I seen the pinhole before, but I was afraid I'd break something. I got it open and sure enough, the pastic protector was in the drive. Next I guess I'll see if the drive has been damaged by the mix-mater effect.

You shouldn't need a driver. What makes you think you do?

  • Internal Pioneer DVDRW DR-KD08HB ATA DEVICE not working

This problem is caused by two Windows registry entries that have become corrupted. To fix the problem, you have to use Registry Editor to delete the corrupted Registry entries. To use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. Back to the top
    Windows 7 or Windows Vista
Click Start, and then click All Programs.
Click Accessories, and then click Run.
Type regedit, and then click OK.If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

  • Laptop not recognize cdrom

    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
My laptop hp pavilion dv6000 [dv6815ee], the cdrom is 'PIONEMR DVDRW'
I don't know exactly when this problem start, its from long time might 1.5 years,
i didn't try to solve the problem because i didn't have time in that time, i use
the default operation system that laptop come with[vista (86,32)],and i was
installed TrueCrypt,Ext2Fsd, also DAEMON TOOLS, MagicDisc I used them to create
virtual drive. I think the problem come after i played with these programs like
forced the virtual drive letter from disk management (from windows) to set
different letter (i think these did conflict to the programs, to the system, may
to the bios and may also between these programs daemon tools,MagicDisc,TrueCrypt,
Ext2Fsd[i use it to show my other partion ext2, i set the ext2fsd to permently
show the partions but sometimes not work well and cause hang in the system) ,also
uninstall these virtual drive from device manage, .....
first i was see my cdrom in computer with question mark i was not able to use it,
i guess the problem in that time by these programs because i played with them
settings.i created maximum virtual drive that  these programs can created then i
saw the icon come normal without the question mark and i can use it normal, after
restart the problem it back,i used this method [removed virtual drive and created]
and i sucess use my cdrom,i tried solve the problem when i need it and have time,
but after it use this method three or four time it not work.
sometimes when i close the screen[the system go in sleep mode], after i open the
screen the system recognize cdrom[the cdrom after open screen go read the cd if
    there].
the strange thing also i cannot boot from cdrom, i tried to change the cdrom to
check if the cdrom not work, same thing the system not recognize cdrom or show any
message occurred as a result of put different cdrom. I put my cdrom in different
laptop [same model] and it works fine.
i read in internet diffrenet cases about cdrom not recognize and cheacked many
thing like delete some keys from regestry and use programs like Mats_Run from
microsoft and programs like 'VSO Inspector',Alcohol,Nero. also i tried uninstall
Protections from the cdrom i installed different versions of SPTD
'SCSI Pass Through Direct','daemon tools'. i uninstall cdrom drive from device
manager and tried scan for new hardware, also uninstall ata/atapi controls,i reset
the DMA status of all ATA drives, delete atapi.sys, nothing work well.
I used recovery manager to restore the system to the factory default state to check if
the problem from the system, nothing happen, so i tried this time recovery without
put cdrom in the laptop after finish recovery i put the cdrom, its recognized, after
some days i played sound cd after some 2 or 3 tracks suddenly the cdrom disappear,
after that i repeated also recovery without the cdrom after that put cdrom but this
    time not recognize.
I tried many thing to understand and solve the problem, i upgraded the bios before
the problem occured, i taked backup, i restore it after the problem occure, i return
upgraded to latest version. i modify settings in files[PHLASH.INI, PHLASH.AUT,
PHLASH.NOR] from HideAll=1 to HideAll=0 to show the advance options in Winphlash after
i tried options there but nothing solve the problem,
i think may the problem its related with bios specially with DMI.
[after i put different cdrom the bios in list of ordering boot i get exclamation mark
before the cdrom when the cdrom option enable, in orginaly cdrom no icons get when
enable or disable or also remove the cdrom and run the laptop without cdrom.]
i also removed the battery ant RTC battery and waited some minutes nothing happend
also the result of the log of test memory and harddisk not earsed. i tried do hard
    reset but i failed
I used linux[by usb],but it's also cannot recognize the cdrom then i create dos to
boot from usb it's also cannot recognize i tried many dos drive, some of them cannot
recognize cdrom at all, others give me loop of errors and sometime hang. i tried many
programs in dos, i found program which recongize the cdrom, it show me informations
about cdrom like Model number,Serial number,Firmware revision,Peripheral device type,
Protocol type for device,Command packet size. atacd203
im sure the all cicuits of motherboard work fine but there some wrong.
i have some records of my tried in atacd203

i get some  hope to solve the problem after i saw the Announcements of ask Expert day
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I believe the problems is not with the hard drive or the CD/DVD ROM, but what is on the hard drive that is keeping the OS from recognizing the ROM.
If I am reading the posts correctly I think you have tried enabling the CD/DVD -ROM in the BIOS. Is that correct ?
Use Partition Wizard to delete and merge any partitions that were not shipped with the laptop. With Vista there should be recovery and the OS partition and nothing else. Other partitions containing additional OS's can cause Vista not to recognize the CD drive.
      http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Ounce you have cleaned up the hard drive, if the CD drive is still not recognized, try reinstalling the drivers for the CD/DVD ROM in the device manager.
If that does not work, try performing another system restore with the recovery partition, maybe with the hard drive cleaned up with Partition Wizard it will reinstall Vista correctly to recognize the CD drive.
Another thing to do is to create a system recovery loaded on a USB flash drive. Your specific model was not coming up with the info. you have given so here is the instructions for a dv6000 cto. They are the same.
     http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01890478&tmp_task=useCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=u...
Still another option is to remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer through USB and delete everything on the hard drive and create unallocated space. Reinstall it back into the laptop and with nothing on the hard drive the BIOS may recognize that you can boot from the CD/DVD ROM drive. With that you will be able to recover your system back to Vista and of course you will have to order some recovery disk's from HP.
Any of the above procedures are experimental and I can not guarantee if they will work, they may make things worse.

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network conect timed out

I am having trouble with iTunes,
Message: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network conection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active then try again."
Im not sure when exactlt this happend, it may have been after i downloaded an iTunes update, but I cant be sure. Other than that nothing else has really changed. I have now had this problem for a couple of weeks.
I am running windows Vista (32 bit System)on my HP Laptop and have ADSL and am able to run explorer and all other non-apple software.
I have tried all other advice offerd in the various supports:
    1. re-installed iTunes
    2. Checked all firewall settings - even removed Norton security (currently just operating on windows Visat security and have checked all that)
    3. changed "host" file to "back-host"
    4. played around and tested various internet settings
I hope this information helps to solve the problem. I have also recently found some other information which may be useful:
Although I do not use "safari" as an internet explorer, this does not work on my system either. I have re-installed this to see if it helps but am still unable to connect to the apple store (home page) on safari. I have looked up the support site for safari but have thus far be unable to find any helpful information to solve the problem.
Please help this is very frustrating...
    Many thanks in advance!

  • Help! my Devices Will Not Boot up!

I'm having a nightmare!  After removing my old generic PC2100 512mb sticks.  And installing the 1 stick of Kingston value ram 3200 512mb in the first channel (Green a) my boot settings have been reset (Amibios 3.1 Utlility) and I cannot get the pc to boot.  Instead the error "Boot Failure Insert Diskette" appears!  I have tried many combinations trying to get it to boot and no luck.
    1st boot device is Floppy
2nd device is 0 Serial ATA drive
    3rd Pioneer DVDRW drive
the key to setting up my devices is in the Integrated Peripherals.  Please can someone tell how to set them correctly. (see below)  Your help would be much appreciated!
    Integrated Peripherals/On chip IDE configuration
On chip ATA's operate mode - Legacy or Native?
ATA Configuration - Pata+Sata or Pata or Sata?
    S-ata - keep enabled yes/no
    P-ata Keep enabled yes/no
Combined mode option - Sata 1st channnel

yeah, i spent ages checking on sites that this ram would work on my msi 865pe Neo 2 FISR board (6728).  I bought it through ebuyer, but at the same time made sure it was the same model number and it matched it on both sites.  This is what I got.  Kingston 512 DDR400 PC3200 Cl3 Memory module (KVR400X64C3A/512)

    Hi guys,
I'm having a problem with my Xorg configuration at the moment and I am tired of messing with it so I figured I would ask for some help after not being able to track down a fix on my own.
As of this moment I am running a stock xorg.conf file provided by Xorg :0 -configure:

The problem is that with this configuration no screens are found.  I had tracked down a fix for this earlier in the day but now managed to forget the exact solution after hours of messing around.  I remember that it entailed removing the various screen subsections, removing BUSID from under Device and adding an option under Device but I cannot for the life of me remember which option that was.
Anyway,  this tweaked configuration allowed for me to see my login screen but left me without the ability to use my keyboard or usb mouse.  At this point I'm stumped and frustrated so I turn to you guys for some help.

I have tried both of the Nvidia and Xorg configuration tools and neither one gives me a configuration which works properly.  Additionally, I had to configure my Synaptics touchpad to work as that did not work previously either due to the fact that there was nothing in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
Don't know if it matters but the card is an Nvidia 8400M GS
I don't know what happened with my configuration but I'd love to be able to get this fixed.
    Thank you!

It seems that I spoke too soon.  The configuration was working fine last night and today but then it reminded me as to the reason I started digging into the xorg configuration in the first place.  The graphics started becoming all wonky and jittery from time to time and the computer slowed down immensely.  It would take upwards of a minute to switch between windows.  I didn't have a chance to check cpu or memory usage but after I had rebooted I could no longer boot into kde.
I have deleted my xorg.conf file and was just running the standard configuration.
    Here is my Xorg.0.log:

  • Baffled with performance

This is a new built system and I'm trying to play LOTR: Return of the King by EA, the games about 1+yrs old.  During play, the game will start to stutter, then on the monitor it shows "No Signal, going to sleep."  I can't get an image back up and have to reboot.  I don't have a clue whats wrong.  I should be playing this game with no issues as I built a good system and I'm playing an older game. I believe that I should be able to play todays games with no issues. Please tell me what you think.
I noticed that first the games sound and video are not matched.  Then the video starts to skip.  Then the screen goes off. Thanks for your help.
    My specs are:
    AMD Athlon 64 3000 Venice, 939 socket
    MSI K8N Neo4-f mobo
Gigabyte ATI Radeon X700 Pro, 128mb vid card
Corsair 1024 membory on 1 dimm
    Maxtor 100gb SATA Hd
    Ultra 500W power supply
    Pioneer DVDRW+/-

You can find your +12V rail's power easily: Open up your case and have a look at the sticker with a table on it. Find the amount of A (Amps or ampère) under the +12V column in the table. (mine is 28A on +12V)
Since people usually start with replying to your posts with questions about the Amps on your +12V rail, you better set the characteristics of your PSU in your sig (like I did).
WHat type of Corsair memory do you have? Because I had to set my Vdimm (voltage on your memory modules) to 2.75V to get an stable system. (as is recommended by Corsair, but depends on your module type). If you know your module type then you can even set your memorytimings to Corasair's recommended settings. (like mine: 2,5-3-6-3 1T @ 2.75V for my 2x CMX512-3200C2Pt)
Try ATitool to find out your GPU temp (under Overclocking - Hardware Monitoring Graphs, I think). My Asus AX800Pro 256MB can get up to 70°C, and I have no problems.
This might be an open door, but are you using the latest ATi or Omega drivers? (because you should).

I cannot find an answer to any of the previously posted topics about unknown error 4251 when attempting to burn a playlist to disc, and I've gone through 25 CD-Rs trying to fix it myself. I guess the model number is V2414NR. Does that sound right?
that's perfect. i found your downloads page at HP.
although there's nothing there by way of firmware for the Pioneer drive that is throwing the error, there are a few other downloads of note:
Software & Driver downloads: Compaq Presario V2414NR notebook PC (XP)
check to see if your HP Notebook System BIOS is up to date.
check to see if that AMD Processor Update for Microsoft Windows XP is relevant to your particular configuration of V2414NR. if so, check to see if you're up to date with that.
check to see if your up to date on that IDE Controller Enhancement.
check to see if your Graphics Driver for ATI Radeon Xpress 200M Chipset is up to date.
once you're satisfied you're up to date, do you still get the 4251?
(if no joy, we'll start checking on that virtual drive showing up in the diagnostics.)

  • Cd's won't burn after update to iTunes 6

New poster here (but have been reading for months).
I am an official idiot. Backround: After much stress, I solved my burn problms that started after updating to iTunes 5, thanks to this forum. I went from the error at the very end of the burn to at least being able to burn very slowly.
Finally updated to version 6, after reading here that nothing changed about burning from v5 to v6, and thinking I'd waited long enough that the bugs would be out of v6-- HA!
Now I can't burn at all --itunes hangs up right after reading the tracks. I can hear the disc spin then stop completely.Help!

I'm suddenly having burning problems also. Was working fine and will burn using other programs so I don't think it's the drive. I can click to start burning a playlist, it runs through checking the playlist, checks all of the songs, then the entire program freezes. It doesn't give an error message to help me figure out the problem. Not trying to burn songs from iTunes store, just my own compilation. Using the same disks I always have. • What External Rewriter Do I Need?

I recently bought an Emac after falling in love with my girlfriends apple Imac, ive never had an apple computer before always windows ones. So im very new to it and am wandering what sort of external rewriter i should get for it? ive looked around and there doesnt seem to be many ones for a mac. I would prefer if it wasnt to expensive but any help would be greatly aprreicded. A mate said i should buy a case but im completly confused...
P.S sorry if this is in the wrong thread!

Welcome aboard, Hunter. So you fell in love with the Mac, what about the girl?
Anyway, I assume you are asking about an external burner (DVD/CD). Macs aren't as particular as they once were regarding burners, but your best bet for compatibility is with a Pioneer drive. You can buy a bare drive and a case separately and assemble them yourself or one that is pret-a-porter. Macs prefer firewire but USB will do in a pinch, unless you have an older eMac with slow USB 1.1 only ports, in which case you must use firewire. I also recommend you get a copy of Roxio Toast for burning discs- it is more flexible than Apple's built-in burning apps. Also, download an app called "Patchburn"
    which will improve drive compatibility.
As far as the price, I can't really direct you towards any specific UK merchants. Here in the USA, bare Pioneer DVDRW drives are typically available for $30-$40 and an external case is probably another $30-$40. If you can find a merchant who deals in Mac stuff, they might throw in a copy of burning software with the drive (typically Toast Lite).
    You might try looking here:

  • Motherboard Suggestions

i think my mb is giving up on me here  (asus a8v socket 939). Asus is the only motherboard ive ever had .. thinking about getting a different brand this time. all i do is regular user stuff [got another arch running as server ], firefox, thunderbird, mpd, rtorrent, gaim, samba, cups, ntp, irssi thats all the programs ill ever use on this machine, got AMD 64 X2 3800+ with 2Gb of memory with audigy ls, 2 USB HD, USB mouse/keyboard, 7in1 card reader, Pioneer DVDRW and LG DVD drives, 2x250Gb 1x80Gb all SATA HD and a 450W PowerSupply in the case .. this is whats going to be connected to this computer. so please help me with getting a new motherboard .. anything but asus

I used to use asus as well, after going through their customer support, which is horrible, I decided to go with another company. I decided on abit. I have a very similar setup to yours, I ended up getting the abit an832x, the only problem with that board is that I needed to upgrade my graphics card to a pci express 16 card. I think this a good idea considering the current agp boards out there suck. If you just want onboard graphics I suggest looking into what abit offers for in that category. Since getting my abit board I have been a very happy camper, the

  • Error code OX 800 200 22

Attempt to burn a DVD and get this error code OX 800 200 22  "can't communicate with writer"

    Darndest thing:
I read through the one REALLY long thread on this and found a strange answer for the problem from a user in the UK, as I have it occuring on an MDD running X.4.11 with no problem until I started using the english-extended character set in language settings.
The Apple branded DVDRW stopped burning either DVD or CD, but the Pioneer DVDRW continued to have no problems, so I figured hardware problem. New hardware did NOT fix the issue. (AND I do NOT like that I had to buy a SATA drive whose data cable connection will NOT line up with the exisiting DVD drive - can NOT use both in the same drive carrier with the factory cable.)
WHAT DID work, at least now, this instant in time, for me:
AS noted in the UK posting - go to preferences international - languages - turn off all but english - set sorting order back to standard from english.
I touched NOTHING else, however I did a reboot - and sucessfully burned a nearly completely full DVD-R through "burn" and then through finder - not a problem, this time. Prior attempts last night were complete and total failures. The console Crash Reporter for Disc Recording read like this at the last failure:
    Finder: IDE 16X: SCSITask 1025.888916 CDB: Write (10), block: 0, count: 64 failed with service response = 1 (SERVICE_DELIVERY_OR_TARGET_FAILURE), status = 1 (TaskTimeoutOccurred)
    Finder: Retry #1
Finder: Burn failed, Thu Jul 25 01:36:26 2013
Finder: Burn sense: 6/29/00 Unit Attention, Power on, reset or bus device reset occurred
Finder: Burn error: 0x80020022 The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.
NOT knowing exactly what the SCSI error message means - I am still reading through the SCSI users manual for that answer - but the fact that the error went away for two different burn sessions makes me think that the mysterious issue IS purely a software related issue with the interpretation of the file and disk names and the international preferences somehow.
