Pioneer Elite VSX-84txi & iPod: where does D/A conversion occur?

Hello, first time poster!
I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to in the owner's manual or on the net and perhaps some knowledgeable person could help me. I own a Pioneer Elite VSX-84txi manufactured in Nov 2006 and a new model iPod manufactured in late 2008. The Pioneer has the latest firmware update. I use the Pioneer supplied iPod cable included with the receiver to connect the iPod to the receiver.
With Wadia pushing the i170 transport as the first solution to bypass the iPod's internal DAC, I was wondering if my iPod passes a digital signal to be decoded by the Pioneer Elite VSX-84txi or if the signal is decoded by the iPod's DAC and passed as analog to the Pioneer. Essentially the answer to this question will dictate whether or not I buy the Wadia i170 (I don't care about video, just the audio processing).
Thanks in advance!!!
Dan

Well, I received this reply from Pioneer today:
"Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics, Inc.
The signal is decoded by the iPod and passed as analog to the Pioneer receiver.
Thank You,

So I guess I'll be buying the Wadia as the Pioneer iPod connection confers no advantages other than charging the unit while it plays.

Why not double check to be certain.
Beyond that, contact Pioneer to see if anything special needs to be done to make AirPlay work on the receiver.
    Has it ever worked?

  • I have a ipod touch gen 2 and I am trying to get airplay to work with my pioneer Elite VSX receiver.

I have a gen 2 IPOD touch with the current operating system (4.2.1).  As well I have a Pioneer A/V Elite series VSX 52 that is airplay ready.  On my ipod touch there is no airplay icon(s) with the music feature.  I am trying to make this work but have no results.  If there is a download that I need to enable to have this function work.

There are no setting on the iPod. Unlike the iPad wich morrors the iPad display, TV out on an iPod only displays TV out on apps that support TV out. The Video app is one such app.
    Is that you problem?
    Otherwise:
    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • IPod Touch with Pioneer ELite VSX-82TXS Receiver

I had an one of the older iPods with video (80GB) and when I played it through my receiver, I could chnage any of the adio settings on my receiver for optimum sound quality.
Now I have the newer iPodTouch and when I connect it, it only plays in a direct stream mode comming only through the front left, front right, and center channels. My 2 rear channels and my subwoffer are quiet.
Has anyone had this expierence? Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you,

Nevermind, came back home and it decided to work. Sorry for the post, can't figure out how to delete it.

  • Connecting to Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH

I am actually reading Pioneer's instructions before installing the receiver replacing a Yamaha! I am a bit uncertain about which ports to use on receiver to utilize the best video (HDMI) and audio (optical) connections. Would appreciate any tips. I bought the Mac MIni in January. Thanks

So your Mac mini is the Mid 2007 model. It has a DVI-D video port and an analog/digital audio combo jack.
So for your digital video you need a DVI-D to HDMI cable that you can assign to any of your HDMI input ports (see page 24 of your user guide to assign the ports) and for digital audio a Toslink optical cable with a mini-plug adapter for the Mac which can be assigned to any of your digital audio input ports ( see page 43 of the user guide to assign the audio input ports).

  • Connecting 80G video IPOD to Pioneer Elite receiver

When I connect my IPOD to Pioneer Elite receiver using the Pioneer supplied cable, I get a message on the IPOD display showing the Pioneer logo and OK TO DISCONECT! I tried setting the video out to ON but still no luck. Anybody got any clues?
    Thanks,

You need to read your Pioneer manual carefully. Check for HDMI passthrough settings, assuming your receiver functions as a HDMi switch. This is definitely a configuration issue with your receiver, not the Apple TV. A receiver typically works by having multiple HDMI inputs for various components like cable or satellite boxes, Blu-ray player, AppleTV, etc., and a single output port to the HDTV that will be the display. There is also some little amount of signal loss as it passes through the receiver and the length of the cables may come into play.

  • Backing up my ipod touch...where does it all go?

So, my iPod touch has a bunch of music on it, and I don't have it all on this laptop. It was on my laptop that my school gives me during the school year but takes it for the summer. I have a lot of music in my itunes on my home laptop, but not all of the stuff on my iPod. I manually went and right-clicked my iPod in itunes and clicked "back up", and it took some time and supposidly backed it all up. Where does itunes store it? I found one of the folders but my computer doesn't recognize any of the files. Is this like a special coding itunes puts on the files so that only it can decode them? Bottom line is, if I end up restoring my iPod from the backup I just manually made, will all my music on my iPod, from school and home laptops, be put back on my iPod? Thanks for any help!

The backup that itunes performs does NOT include music or apps or movies or videos.
All of your music should be on your computer.  Sync it back to the ipod.

  • Where does iTunes 7 keep the iPod software?

    Hi All,
I work in technical support and am a bit let down by the current embedded iPod updater in iTunes 7. This works ok except for one thing, after downloading the latest iPod updater from within iTunes 7, i want to transfer the updater to various machines. Searching the libraries came up with nada. Only once i opened up the iTunes 7 package did i find "iPodUpdater.framework" in contents. It also appears that a different updater is downloaded for each model of iPod as opposed to the old stand-alone all-in-one iPod updater. So, Where does iTunes 7 keep the iPod software? We are very bandwidth challenged in my country so it is very handy to be able to keep the latest updates on an external drive, usb disk, etc.
While the embedded updater is nice and clever i think a bit more needs to be done, maybe put it into the Application Support Folder or something?
    Thank you in advance

    Thanx for your reply SeaBeast.
Erm, ok maybe I'm not being clear.
Pre iTunes7: iPod's were updated using the iPod updater application located in /Applications/Utilities. This could be downloaded as a standalone app and showed up in software updater when updating of the app was required. Easy.
iTunes7:iPod updater is now part of iTunes. Updates are downloaded from within iTunes ( iPod model specific it seems ) and sometimes it has to be forced to update, see
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060912144151766
Where does it keep these downloaded updates?
Does it modify the existing "iPod Updater 2006-06-28.app"?
To my knowledge it is now seperate from this. If it was still seperate i could download it from Apple as a stand-alone but as far as i can see this is no longer the case. Please help. Maybe I'm just being a ******* and missing something simple here.
    Thanx again.

  • Where does ipod voiceover app live?

So, when plugging in my ipod shuffle for the first time, it of course asks it I want VO, yes, so it downloads and installs. I see in software update that version 1.4 was downloaded and installed.  Where does that app live?  It isn't installing it on the ipod, just the "voiceover message." So, I assume the app lives somewhere on the mac..

Location on the iPOd is determined by the location of a nearby wifi router that is in Apple's database of routers and their location.  The iPod does not have to be connected to the router, just within rage.  As of yet, nobody seems to know how to add to or correct Apple's database.

  • IPod Nano does not display songs after upgrading to iTunes 7.1 & SW1.3

After installing iTunes 7.1 on my WIN machine and connecting my iPod nano iTunes asked me about upgrading my iPod's firmware. After I did this all the songs on my iPod where gone. When I connect my iPod to iTunes I see that 3,8 GIG is still in use, which should be correct, and it states it is analyzing song for "gapless playback". However, my songs don't show up in iTunes, nor on the iPod. I rebooted the firmware on the iPod (menu+select) but no results.
    a) how to get my songs back to my iPod without going thru a factory reset?
    b) how to get rid of iTunes 7 and V. 6 back?
    Thank in advance.

Does it look like the song is playing at the top of iTunes? Can you see the timer moving?
Also, make sure the volume slider isn't all the way to the left (mute).

  • I had to reinstall itunes and now when I plug in my ipod itunes does not automatically come up so I can log in, how do I fix this?

I had to reinstall itunes and now when I plug in my ipod itunes does not automatically open to my library or where I can access the itunes store.  What do I do now?

Open iTunes and connect your iPod. Select your iPod in iTunes from the Source list. (I'm assuming this still works, although you didn't indicate if it did or didn't.) Make sure the box is checked to Open iTunes when this device is connected. You should be all set!

  • Is there a way to remind the iPod where it was before the sync?

I have an old 30GB iPod that I love. It's been with me for a long time and it'll be with me till it dies. My question, however, is this:
I sync my iPod every day, due to Podcasts. However, every time I do this, the iPod "forgets" where it was before the sync (say, if I was listening to an audiobook or other podcast) and goes back to neutral after the sync. I was wondering if there's some way I can "remind" the iPod where it was prior to the sync and just let it run from there. I can do the "recently played" option, but all that does is show the file to me: I then have to go scrolling around to actually find that file. I was hoping there's something that can do both (show and play).
    Thanks!

hello Jeff, ive emailed you a few days back about the above problem and also:
Is it possible having a populated library without needing backup files else where
is this possible for video and music files as if one of the back up is deleted its deleted in itunes (can not locate file exclamation)even though all file info is still in library
are itunes video movie music videos easier on battery than converted youtube to ipod compatible at general to high quality? what about converted dvd from the legitiment programs such as likes of aimersoft dvd to ipod package do these files differ in batterylife from itunes movies ?
that is all. Ive did a test on batterylife of my replaced ipod 80gb classic
    music 38.5 hours
    video 6.30 hours
I think this is impressive. but I found if I distrubed its play by touching clickwheel to see the battery level it depleted quicker well on the indictor anyway is this so generally in use if it playing a film or video your better not even to disturb it to acheive substanially more play time

  • Can I connect a Pioneer se-m390 to iPod shuffle 4?

I own iPad 2 and I connected my headphones Pioneer se-m390 to this device and I can listen to music with a very strong audio volume.
My question is: can I connect a Pioneer se-m390 to iPod shuffle 4?
In other words: Audio hardware is similar to iPad 2 and iPod shuffle 4? Or: I'll hear the sound strong with iPod shuffle 4?

A friend of mine gave her niece her iPhone 4 to use as an iPod after she upgraded to a different device...it works fine and it does not have to have the sim card to access iTunes...since iTunes access can only happen over WiFi just as it would on an iPod Touch. I don't know anyone to date that has an iPhone 4 on VZW that isn't actually using it activated but it's safe to assume that the same would be true with it...especially considering that the iPhone 4 on VZW does not have a sim card like the 4s does.

if you use a hdmi to dvi converter then you only get picture and not audio because dvi don't carry audio same with vga
