Pitstop freezes Acrobat

We are running Pitstop Pro 9 with Acrobat Pro 8.1.6. on Windows XP Pro. Acrobat will run just fine all day until I start Pitstop. Pitstop will works just fine while I am actively using it, however if I leave Acrobat open and come back to it later in the day, Acrobat has frozen and needs to be restarted. This problem has only been occuring since we upgraded Pitstop. Thanks for your input.

Sounds like an issue better taken up with Enfocus. Could be a memory leak.

  • Click Save on Toolbar Freezes Acrobat 9.5.2

    Hi,
I have Adobe Acrobat 9.5.2 on Windows 7 x64. It recently updated automatically. Since then, I've had several problems. One is that if I click Save (or Typewriter) icon on the tool bar, Acrobat freezes and I have to shut it down.
Can anyone explain why this is happening and how to address it? Thanks,
    Gordon

    Hi Gordon,
Could you try repairing Acrobat via Help > Repair Acrobat Installation ?

  • Still need Pitstop for Acrobat?

Currently we're using Acrobat 7.1 and Pistop 6.52 to convert and check our own PDFs and client PDFs. As we ponder finally upgrading, we're wondering if we still need Pitstop or can we get by with Acrobat?
We use Pitstop to convert RGB and CMYK ads to B&W and to ensure that CMYK ads are really CMYK, using the convert color option.
We also run Preflight tests to ensure that the PDFs that clients send and that we make don't have problems.
Can Acrobat 9 replace these abilities and if so, which version?

I am not sure if AA9 Pro can replace PitStop, but the features you mentioned seem to be PreFlight for AA9 Pro. If you have a spare machine around, you might want to download the trail version and give it a try for your need. Note, I said spare machine. Folks often have some issues with removing the trial and such.

  • Printing freezes Acrobat Reader various versions

I have one (luckily, just one) client who has a problem printing from Acrobat Reader. So far, this problem has been with v6.x, v7.x, and v9.x (uninstalled 6.x, installed and uninstalled 7.x, and then installed 9.x, trying to solve this issue, with no changes).
For the longest time, there was NO problem printing PDF files. Then, she couldn't print at all, it would bring up an error message. I read where setting/changing the default printer would solve this, and it did -- to a point.
Now, when she tries to print (FILE | PRINT -- read below as to why this is necessary), it will print, but the printer dialog box takes a LONG time to come up (3-5 minutes) and then the drop down menu to select a printer takes a long time to come up, as well.
She travels between various offices, which is why she must use FILE | PRINT -- she needs to choose the printer(s) that are available to her when she logs into the network. There are HP, Cannon, Lexmark, and other printers at these various locations.
The problem *only* happens in Acrobat Reader. All of the other applications print fine.
Today, I discovered something interesting by accident. If she is *disconnected* from a network, and starts a print job (again, FILE | PRINT), the printer dialog box opens almost immediately, as does the printer selection drop-down menu. She can then reconnect to the network, after selecting a printer, and then press OK (to print), at which time it does print just fine.
    So, in a nutshell:
    (1) It *only* happens when trying to print something from Acrobat Reader regardless of version.
    (2) It is *only* slow to bring up the printer dialog box, and printer selection drop-down menu when connected to a network.
    (3) It *will* eventually (say 3-5 minutes later) bring up the printer dialog box, and printer selection drop-down menu, and print, when connected to a network.
    (4) She is using Windows XP (I didnt check on the service pack version, it is, for certain SP2 at least, although she may have allowed Windows Updates to upgrade it to SP3). Multiple printers are being used, from various vendors (HP, Lexmark, Canon, others) so it is extremely unlikely that it is a printer driver issue.
    (5) There are others with identical laptops, Windows XP, and using the same printers and Acrobat Reader who also travel to the same offices and work in the same fashion as she, and they do not have this issue.
So, anyone out there smarter than me, any suggestions about how to resolve this?

Hi, I found this to work
    open cmd
type the following and press enter after each command:
    c:
    cd\
    del arc*.tmp /S
What the command does is that it deletes acrobat temp files that are stored on your pc, which slows down acrobat printing.
I found this info at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403914.html towards the bottom of the page
    Hope it helps

  • Acrobat X Pro Freezing

I have a .pdf file that every time you open it, it freezes Acrobat X up and I need to force quit the application.  The document views fine in Preview but when you try to open it up in Acrobat it freezes.  I downloaded Adobe Reader and it freezes also.  My main goal is to get it to open in Acrobat to view and edit it.  Is there a work around or a fix for this type of issue.  I've tested this out on 10.7.1 and 10.6.7.  I'm running Acrobat X Pro v10.0.3.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    hi:
    1.  i would like to second this problem.   i currently run mac 10.6.7 and just "upgraded" to acrobat pro X (from 9) and basically the same thing that was happening with 9 is now happening with acrobat pro X--> I open up a document and basically when I try to work on the document, it freezes up and thus I have to do a force quit.
    2.  obviously there's some software issue here and after putting down some decent bucks on this upgrade, it would be nice if the thing actually works.
    3.  question:  what is the solution?    is anyone running acrobat pro X and OS Lion?    Any problems there?
    thanks for the info.  harry

  • Acrobat XI "Not Responding" when Launched

The hang time varies - it's been as long as 60 seconds - but there's an issue every time I open a PDF with Acrobat.  The only exception is if I already have Acrobat open with another document.  There are no updates available (11.0.05) and I've uninstalled/reinstalled.  I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium and CC.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.  Hope everyone's having a great day!

    Hi,
I created a redaction mark on some text and then applied redaction. It worked fine for me. I used Windows 7 64 bit machine. If the workflow that you are doing is different from what I did, then please give the detailed steps.
Also, please try creating a simple pdf file containing only text and check if the redaction is getting applied. If the redaction is getting applied successfully in it, then please share a pdf file in which applying redactions freezes Acrobat.
    Thanks,
    Nupur

  • Plugin error on 9.1.0 update?

I just tried to update my Acrobat Pro to 9.1.0 and was stopped by an error message telling me the application had been altered and/or plugins had been disabled. Well, I do have the current PitStop plugin(s) installed. But I don't think I've disabled plugins in general. Searching help database and FAQs at Enfocus and Adobe gives me squat on this.
Do I really need to uninstall both PitStop and Acrobat Pro, then reinstall Acrobat, update Acrobat, then reinstall PitStop?
Yes, I can do this. No, I'd much rather someone explain to me that there's something else going on.

(We've been discussing this over at B4Print, here's my final rant:)
So one day back in The Day, like, oh, probably late 1994, a friend from Cupertino dropped by the house and handed me a floppy (yes, a floppy) with Acrobat 2 on it. He was really excited about PDFs and wanted me to try it right away on a real typesetting job. The best part was that Adobe was giving version 2 away free (they had tried to charge, like, $50 for version 1, and I ignored it at the time.) I installed it. The guts were in the app called "Exchange."
I took to it like a duck takes to water, stayed with it all the way through to now, learned everything I could, used it on the books I was doing production on in the late 1990s, got rave feedback from the book printers regarding the fact that my PDFs actually ran right on the first try.
Meanwhile, today was slow so I bit the bullet and performed a clean upgrade. I uninstalled Pitstop. This... somehow... also disabled Acrobat Pro. Oh well, onward. Uninstalled Acrobat. Reinstalled Acrobat. Ran the updater. Reinstalled Pitstop. All fixed. And, while I'm sure there's a perfectly rational cybernetic explanation for all this crap, I'm losing my love for Adobe Systems...

  • Layers from a PDF to be recognized by Illustrator

I have exported a dwg to pdf using Autocad, now when I open the pdf with acrobat 9 I can see the layers from the dwg file with the same names and everything, and turn them on and off. When I open the same file with Illustrator the layers are all in one layer broken out in radom groups. Is there a way to get Illustrator to recognize the layers I can see in the PDF? I don't want to open the DWG file with illustraitor because I loose all of my line weights and I have some Linetypes that i custom made in AutoCAD that do not migrate over to Illustraitor. I think the PDF file that AutoCAD exported the drawing to is an older PDF verstion, but I cant seam to save the PDF as a newer version with acrobat 9. Please help I have wasted half a day trying to figure this thing out.

Here is a slightly convoluted work-around that should work; In Acrobat 9 go to View> Navigation Panels> Layers, turn down the little triangle to see the layers, turn off all but one layer, Do a save-as to "Layer_1" and click the little icon that looks like two gears and select flatten layers.
Place this PDF into Illustrator and name the layer appropriately. Do the same thing for the other layers.
It seems flattening the PDF will remove editability in AI, so if this is important to you, you will need to remove the all of the elements in Acrobat that you don't want on each layer, this is easy with PitStop, an Acrobat plug-in, (hide the desired layer, select all and delete) but it can also be done with Acrobat, Tools> Advanced editing> touch up tools> (click and drag to select, delete). I believe Pitstop can also delete PDF layers.

  • Can you create a custom PDF Preflight report?

Is it possible to customize the preflight report?

bollocks, everything can be changed, including acrobats default preflight report, but since adobe isnt forthcoming with options to do so, look at enfocus pitstop instead. acrobat without pitstop is like a car without a steering wheel.
    http://www.enfocus.com/en/support/knowledge-base/how-to-add-a-company-logo-to-the-prefligh t-report?q=Search
and the same is true for acrobat, just gotta find all those resources and a way to edit them without getting into licensing trouble over edititng adobes code.

  • Preflight for index color help

Hi, our RGB to CMYK conversion process does not like greyscale images in indexed colour mode, which is the way Quark converts them in it's PDFing process. Customer can't convert to ID, so I'd really like to create a Preflight Profile to provide them to identify future occurrences, but can't find a rule segment that does this. Customer doesn't have PitStop, so Acrobat prefllight appears to be our only hope. Any guidance on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
    Mike

Andrew, thank you very much for your reply. We already apply a 3 stage processing to our Web Press jobs (didn't mention that in my earlier post), regular Acrobat Preflight, RGB > CMYK conversion in either one of 2 tools and then GCR in a Alwan product. Could build an un-index into our RGB>CMYK PitStop process, I suppose. This element seems unique to this customer, and we were  hoping to use this as a teaching tool on their end. Will look into adding into PitStop action list with the operators. Thanks again,
    Mike

  • Using automator as a preflighter

i've never really used automator - but can anyone tell me if it's possible to use it to check pdf files for any RGB elements and flag these? in other words use it as a very basic preflighter?
    thanks very much.
    james b (uk)

    Hi James.
It doesn't really work like that, you need an Action that could check for embedded RGB;s as far as I know there isn't one written yet.
You will need something like Pitstop or Acrobat Pro, they handle pre-flight nicely, but cost a bit !

  • Acrobat Pro 9.0 freezes when viewing/scrolling through the table of contents of a document

I am hoping someone can help me or has experienced the same problem I'm about to describe. I belong to the technical publications group of a fairly large company and I review a lot of PDF documents. I just installed Acrobat 9.0.0 (via CS4 Design Standard) and I've noticed on larger documents where there's a full page or several pages worth of Table of Contents, Acrobat 9.0.0 seems to freeze up when I begin scrolling through the TOC. For example, if I want to use the Text Edit tools or use a sticky note, when I press on an icon, Acrobat will freeze for a good 10 seconds, then will allow you to press the icon. It tends to freeze each time I want to make my next edit or even pressing the up/down arrow buttons to go to the next page. Once I get through the TOC pages, Acrobat seems to function normally--no freezes.
Has anyone experienced this? Would appreciate any kind of advice on how to fix--perhaps there's a patch or update?
I didn't experience any of this using Acrobat 8.0--I never had any real problems with Acrobat until 9.0.0.

Your issue may not be related to a difference between v8 and 9.
I have not had this problem on my computers, but a coworker had this issue. For many documents that others were able to open and scroll through without issue, his computer was freezing and unfreezing.  IT determined his graphics capabilities were not able to keep up with the requirements of working with larger documents and gave his computer a RAM upgrade and a new graphics card. Particularly during scrolling, higher demands are made on the computer to graphically render and re-render page content. Documents giving him problems before became a non-issue.
A new graphics card is obviously a $$$ solution, but you might want to check to see if your RAM meets the minimum requirements and check to see if there are any program updates (Help > Check for Updates).
I have had an issue of pdfs freezing, but not specifically in the table of contents areas. If your document has pages with images that have an unusually high number of layers, it may affect the ability to work effectively in the document.

  • Acrobat Pro XI Mac 11.0.10 freezes every time I open a document

Every time I open a document in Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.10, the app freezes with a spinning beach ball. Beach ball will go for 10 minutes plus before I can't stand it and force quit. I am using Macbook Pro 15 Retina with Mavericks (OSX 10.9.5). The same document opens without issues under Windows 7 Acrobat Pro XI. I have disabled enhanced security and upgraded form 11.0.7 without any change in behavior. I have also un-installed and re-installed Acrobat from a fresh download off the internet.
I am getting ready to ask for my $$ back!!  This is ridiculous, Acrobat is completely unusable under Mac.
