Pivot point in Photoshop CS 4

Hello
I seem to have an issue using 3D layers in Photoshop CS 4 ext.
You see I have a layer which I convert to a 3D layer and I want to rotate the element however I would like to move the pivot point which it rotates from. I am unable to do this. I can not find the pivot point and I am not sure how PS generates the coordinates of the pivot point. This should be a simple task.
Thanks
Cheers
S.

Hello Bart
Im not sure how your pulling this off. Could you please provide me with acurate step by step on how you are able to do this? cause I am still not able to get a pivot point from a 3D layer.
Thanks
cheers

  • Pivot Point Problem - CS3

Using cs3 with Windows7, it's been hit or miss lately on whether or not I can adjust the pivot point when doing select, edit>transform>rotate.  Working with a photo yesterday, on several occasions when I tried to adjust the pivot point the entire selected area would move; other times, I was successful in moving the pivot point.  I was working with a .png file but encountered the same problem after converting it to a .tiff.  Even more frustrating was the fact I could adjust the pivot point on one area selected on the photo, but not a different area on the same photo.
Anybody have any thoughts on this problem?

  • How to save pivot point with free transform tool?

    Hi,
I'm animating a picture, have the limbs on different layers, so I can just simply use the free transform tool to rotate them into the good position. Although it's a pain to always reset the pivot point from the center. Is there a way to make Photoshop remember where I want the pivot point to be?
    Thanks,
    Fisher.

Have you tried recording the Transform operation into an action?  I see that some information is stored about the center in there...

  • Pivot Point in "Rotate 3D"

    hi all,
is there a way to change the pivot point in "rotate 3d" (timlines/add action)?
i have no problems to set a new pivot point with the transform/rotate tool. works well.
but in rotate 3d it rotates around the center of the object.
an example, think of a picture that rotates around a pole.
    have a creative day

    Thank you for the reply.
Unfortunately it doesn't answer my question.
I DONT want to animate rotating around the center. I have offset the pivot of an object and rotated around that from state 1 to state 2. But the animation interpilation ignores this and still rotates around the center of the object to get from state 1 to 2.
I want the object to swing in to the canvas from its bottom corner but I can't get it to honor where I put the pivot during the actual build of animation.
I am beyond frustrated with the limitations of Catalyst. If I have to go to Flash Builder to add any type of specific function, whats the point, as FB
is 10 times more complex to me than Flash ever was. The reason I am not messing with Flash is that I don't want to screw with code.
but I guess I might as well just stick with Flash as in Catalyst
    I can't
    Use Gifs
    Animate around a changed pivot
Scale a bitmap thats a button (come on really...)
Unreliable results with swf files that have multiple bitmap images in them.
Any type of slightly advance animation, such as ...move a background around to loop,  when I am in a static state.

  • How do I get the rotate tool to default locate the pivot point in the exact center of an object or group of objects?

My new copy of CC has the default pivot point set to one side, rather than the center. I know I can manually move the pivot point around, but this is not always exact. Is there a way to have AI determine the exact center and then make this the default?

    s,
We are not talking about the Reference Points in the Transform palette, are we?
In any case, you may consider the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

    cylinder.
It doesn't matter if you want to rotate the cylinder or to
    modify its height.
If you cannot alter the pivot (of any 3D model) in your 3D
modeler, James gave you a good advice.
In your case, all you have to do is to modify the scale (on
the desired direction) of the group.
The cylinder (a child) must obey!

  • Setting pivot point

    Hi all,
I'm using InDesign CS5.  I know that with the Rotate Tool, I can not only rotate an object, but change the position of the point on which it rotates.  I'd like each object in my document to remember where I placed the pivot point...but every time I deselect the object and reselect, the pivot point always moves back to the center...
This is a long shot, but is it possible to keep the pivot point where I place it?
    Thanks!!!!

One common workaround for this is to group the object with a larger one whose center is at the desired location, and rotate larger one. One downside might be if the larger object interferes with text wrap etc. One way to deal with this might be to put the larger object on its own layer - InDesign can group across layers; hide the layer when it's not needed, and enable "Suppress text wrap when layer is hidden," in the layer options dialog box.

  • Registration and pivot point issue

The pivot/rotation points default back to the center of the symbol when I drag them from the library for later use.
Here's what's happening. I create a symbol, double click to edit and set the registration point (the cross hairs); the pivot point (the white dot) automatically moves to the registration point. Great! When I drag the same symbol from the library to the stage in a later scene the registration point is the same but the pivot point has defaulted to the center position of the symbol. How do I keep this from happening? Am I leaving out a step? Help, please!

Never mind. I think I figured it out; create the object on the stage, edit the registration and pivot points in the symbol in the library, return to stage, right click symbol and 'set transformation point.' I might be able to set that last action as a hot key.
Thanks for all your help. You should write the manuals.

  • Pivot point keeps shifting

I'm attempting to create a Flash Puppet animation for my short film done via FlashPro cs6, and, obviously I'm using Tweens & Symbols.
My character's already rigged and ready to go, but whenever I apply a Motion Tween on a Symbol and try to edit its pose via from Stage or Motion Editor, the Pivot Point keeps shift away from the postion I set it up.

  • Secunia PSI Error Points To Photoshop CC 2014 Folder

Secuna PSI is giving me an error pointing to a program called "node.js", which appears to have been installed in my Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 folder and out-of-date.  Does anyone know anything about this program and, if so,  why it is causing a Secunia error?
    Thank you.

I have the exact same problem! I've tried to uninstall and then reinstall, and I've now licensed photoshop but it still doesn't work. Lightroom works perfectly, but I can't even start up photoshop before it crashes...

  • Change anchor point on Photoshop Live 3D image?

It is possible to change the anchor point on a Photoshop Live 3D model?
I've imported a (.obj) 3D model into Photoshop (CS5.5) Live 3D layer (in order to be able to export as a PS Live .PSD and import into After Effects) howver I need to change the anchor point to one of the 4 corners, rather than dead centre which is the default. I thought it would easy just to import the .PSD file into After Effects and move the anchor point in there, but this seems impossible. So, can the anchor point be moved inside of Photoshop before I export it?
    Mike.

What do you mean by »Photoshop Live 3D«?
If you need to change the 3D-object’s mesh I’m afraid that will have to be done outside of Photoshop.
But if you could post a mock-up or screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible the issue might get clearer.

  • How can I use anchor points in Photoshop CC?

I'm using a trial version of Photoshop CC and I am trying to put a formed border around some text. I was able to do this with my other Photoshop program with manipulating anchor points. The CC version is layed out differently. How can I use and form anchor points?

Hi Sheryl.  I must admit, I looked at your post earlier, and it was too obscure to get a handle on (did I really just say 'handle'? ).  But I think I can see where you are coming from now.  Yes, the manipulation of paths has changed a wee bit with CC, but it is pretty intuitive, and a lot of it will still work fine using your old methodology.
Take a look at some of these Julieanne Kost blog posts
    https://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/tag/path-selection-tool
I find the most reliable way to make individual point selection work first time every time, is to select the Direct Selection tool > and with the shape/path layer selected, drag a tiny marquee around your target point.  You can then click drag that point to edit the shape or path.
But there are so many ways to do the sort of thing you are talking about.  If you make a copy of the text layer, and make the lower of the two in the layer stack bigger (Free Transform with Alt Shift) you can then turn that lower text layer into a path or shape to manipulate it.
Or you could add a broad stroke around the text on a new layer.  Ctrl click the stroke to load it as a selection, and turn the selection into a path using the icon at the bottom of the Paths panel, and then manipulate its points.  If you want to make the stroke a solid filled layer, then I don't know of a better way than dragging a marquee around the inner points wth Direct Selection tool, and hitting Delete.
It's an interesting subject, so please keep asking about anything you are not sure about.

  • Mouse flickering on top of brush point in Photoshop CS4...

Recently the mouse has started flickering and not lining up with brushes when I'm editing photos in Photoshop CS4. When I use a brush, the mouse arrow will appear, flickering overtop of where the brush point is (the brush point flickers too when I move the mouse) so I can't see what I'm doing exactly. Really hoping someone can help! I installed the latest updates of Photoshop CS4 and it didn't help. Thank you!

    Mac OSX 10.8.4
I really can't think of anything that has changed. I've just been using Photoshop the way I usually use it. I wish I could think of an easy fix! It strange because I don't even know where brush point is going to start working when I click because the arrow will sometimes flicker on top of the brush point and then sometimes an inch or more away from where the invisible brush is. I wish I could explain it more clearly. I tried to take a screenshot but arrows dissapear in screenshots. : S
Thank you for trying to help!

  • VANISHING POINT HELP - PHOTOSHOP / AFTER-EFFECTS

I've followed along with the Vanishing Point tutorials and can't get them to work, Ill create my image in Photoshop and apply the Vanishing Point filter, create 4 walls and a background, all blue grids, export the .vpe and load into AFX and I get distorted images that don't look like my scene, it appears that Photoshop is incorrectly slicing the images and so when loaded onto the geometry it doesn't look at all correct, HELP what am I doing wrong?
EXAMPLES OF HOW IT LOOKS IN AFX:

    Hi Jeremiah,
Please mention the exact version of Photoshop that was used to create the VPE and also the version of After Effects that you are using with the details of Operating system.
