Pixel binning/supersampling in manual mode?

EDIT:
This should be a quick, easy reply from a staff member.... why has this not been answered yet?
Does manual mode use pixel binning or is this feature reserved for superior auto ?
Will third party camera apps make use of pixel binning ? (Is it done at driver level or software level?)
Original post
Hi, so we have a 20mp sensor here, and clearly the "superior auto" is using some sort of pixel binning to produce its 8mp images. Is this true when selecting image sizes smaller than 20mp in manual mode? e.g do both the 16:9 and 4:3 8mp modes use the binning or it this exclusive to the "superior auto" mode
And on a related note, is there a good reason why the superior auto drives the ISO so high compared to the manual mode at auto settings? It seems that any indoor or night photography in superior mode is an absolute disaster! Blurry, grainy mess most of the time; no such issues in manual where dimmer conditions are less of an issue.
On a related note, any chance of Sony changing the behavior of the camera launch button, and lock screen shortcut? This always launches the horrible superior mode, whereas the app shortcut has the prefered behaviour of booting into the last used mode. I was hoping not to have to root my phone to fix software issues as I have with almost every other phone I've owned, but this issue will be a deal breaker for me.

I mostly use manual mode in 8MP 16:9. Would be nice if it could be set default as it seems to produce lower noise images compared to other 8MP smartphones I've had so far. With non moving objects and steady hand you can get even better results dialing low ISO and HDR mode. Other times the auto ISO seems to work better to trade off noise for shake free image.
Great addition is I can also use a bit zoom (there is an indicator in the zoome slider which shows where you start to lose detail) in this mode which is great.
I never really used the superior mode since I feel it compromises too much and like to play with the settings a bit depending on situation.

  • Does the Z1 use pixel binning when shooting at 8MP shots?

    Hi,
I have a question with the camera. I want to shoot at 4:3 resolution (I don't really like 16:9 so I don't shoot at Superior Auto) but I am thinking which resolution would be better. So I am wondering, when you are shooting at 8MP 4:3 compared to 20MP, does it do pixel binning to take advantage of the 20MP Sensor? Can you shoot in Scene Auto mode at 8MP 4:3 resolution instead of 16:9?
Or maybe just in general, what setting do you have in Manual mode that produces the best results? (Sorry I really don't want to use the Superior Auto as it saves images in 16:9 which doesn't really display nicely in Facebook)

  • Photomerge (missing manual mode)

We are using photomerge to assemble huge panoramic overviews of the retina. We cannot guarantee an overlap of 30-40% per picture, since we have to keep the exposure of the specimen as low as possible, but it's "easy to assemble" pictures, completely corrected, only a shift in the X/Y Axis has to be performed and the images have to be seamlessly stitched.
Until now we use Photoshop CS2, because it's the last version that we know to have a manual stitching mode (automated stitching epically fails with our pictures). Since the pictures are very big (easilie 12 x 12 pictures of 3k x 3k Pixels) the memory limit on 32-bit forced us to assemble them in patches.
We got a new Core i7 / 8GB Ram workstation now, running Win7 64-bit and installed the trial version of CS5 Photoshop extended to make maximum use of 64-bit... only to come to know that the build in photomerge functions perform even worse in stitching our images and the manual mode is "gone".
I found out that I could install the old Photomerge ( http://forums.adobe.com/message/2242257#2242257 ), but I guess this will be 32-bit and as limited as the one we already use?
Is there any other solution to this? We would like to upgrade to CS5 (for all the other nice functions like 64-bit filters, no more memory limitations, GPU support, etc.) but if it cannot improve the main function we are using.....

The Optional Plug-ins package includes both 32 and 64bit versions of this plug-in as you can see in this technote: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/828/cpsid_82824.html
You'll also find in that technote a link to the CS5 Optional Plug-ins package.

  • Can't transfer songs in manual mode

All the instructions say that in manual mode songs can be dragged from the music library and dropped into the iPOD but it won't work. The only way we can transfer is to set the preferences to automatic. Does anyone know how to transfer in manual mode?

    Janet,
The songs with the ! next to them means that they have either been moved from the location that iTunes normally looks for them, or that they've been deleted from the computer.
Either way, iTunes cannot find them. If you were to double click on one, you would get a message to this effect and be asked if you want iTunes to look for it.

  • Legend in manual mode - Background color

    Hi all,
To create legend in manual mode I am using following request URL for a style image.
    http://127.0.0.1:8988/mapviewer/omserver?sty=L.ROAD&w=20&h=20&ds=cescdatasource
Here if the color of style is white (For example white color line style) then it won't be visible. Can I set background color?. I need different background color instead of white.
    Thanks,
    Sujnan

Either set the background color for the MapDecoration or for the table in which you display the legend or both.
e.g. (modification of tutorial 36 Map Legend)
// get the container DIV and set the background color to light blue
    var legendDiv = legend.getContainerDiv();
legendDiv.style.backgroundColor = "AliceBlue"; //color name may not work in all browsers
    function buildLegend(baseURL)
    var html = "<table *bgcolor='gray'* border=0> <tr><td><img src="+baseURL+"/omserver?sty=L.PH&w=45&h=20&ds=mvdemo></td><td> Highways </td></tr>" +
    " <tr><td><img src="+baseURL+"/omserver?sty=M.CITY+HALL+3&w=20&h=20&ds=mvdemo></td><td> Cities </td></tr>" +
    "</table>";
    return html;
    }

  • Help with manual mode of Menu Widget in Muse

I'm building a family web page in Muse and I'd like to create a menu of my secondary webpages only. Since the Menu Widget's "menu type" options are Top Level pages, All Pages (neither option will work for me), and Manual- it seems like I should be able to use "Menu Type: Manual" and simply type in the menu items I would like- which I've done. What I can't figure out is how to link those menu items I manually created to the sub pages of my website.
A bit of background on my website structure. My top Level sites are: Welcome, and then 3 separate pages for each family member- and each member page has a few secondary pages (about, photos, contact):
    Welcome
    Member 1
    about
    photos
    contact
    Member 2
    about
    photos
    contact
    Member 3
    about
    photos
    contact
My main site navigation- i.e. the menu widget for top level pages- is above my header (Light Gray). Below my header, I would like a horizontal or bar menu for ONLY the sub pages of that member: ie. About Member 1, Member 1's Photos, Contact Member 1 (Dark Gray)
I've created a menu widget in the Manual mode- I just can't seem to figure out how to link each menu option to the correct page. Currently in preview none of these manual menu items work.
    Thanks!
    LScarff

    Hi Scarff.
When you opt to use manual mode for the Menus, you need to manually link the pages to menu items. To achieve this , you need to have the menu item selected and then using hyperlink option as shown in below screenshots link the corresponding page to it :
    I hope this helps.

  • Sx20is--only blue registers in manual mode. Color okay in auto

In manual mode the only color in the image is blue. In auto mode the color is fine.

Check the white balance setting. You are probably set in the tungsten mode, so try a different setting to see if things change. The easiest thing would be to set the camera to Auto White Balance and take a few photos. Use the setting that is the closest to the actual conditions that you are shooting in.
To find the white balance, press the func/set button and scroll through the menus until you are at White Balance.

  • Can't set to manual mode if it's not listed in iTunes!

    Hi,
I'm struggling with this infuriating "feature" where iPods can only be synced with one computer to ensure everything being up-to-date.
I just bought a new computer and want to copy new music to my iPod shuffle (2nd gen).
I don't need auto-syncing, I just want to copy music one-by-one, and I keep getting the Erase and Sync option when I connect the iPod. I've read other threads and it sounds like manual mode is what I need, but once I hit cancel at the Erase and Sync box the iPod doesn't appear in iTunes anywhere for me to change to manual mode! How can I get iTunes to recognize the iPod so I can set it to manual?
The iPod still works fine and I can see the files in My Computer, browse the iPod_Control directory, etc. So I don't think the iPod is broken in any way.
Also I tried editing the preferences in iTunes (I'm on v8 on Windows Vista) to stop auto-syncing with iPods and iPhones (that's an option somewhere in preferences) but it didn't help.
    Any ideas!?
    Thanks,
    Raphi

An iPod shuffle cannot contain music from more than one computer at once; the manual mode referred to is present on other iPod models, but isn't available on the iPod shuffle.

  • How do I set the Shutter Speed in Manual Mode on my EOS 70D

I recently was forced to upgrade to a Canon 70D after my 50D died from a fall.  I am not happy with the ease of setting the Shutter speed while in Manual mode.  The only way I can currently set the shutter speed while in Manual mode, is to go to the info screen and set the shutter speed with the touch screen.  The manual states that I should be able to set the Shutter speed with the Main Dial, behind the shutter release. ( which is how it was on the 50D).  I can control the Aperture with the quick control dial.  The Function Lock button is off.
I am sure this is do to some setting I have wrong, that is not allowing me to fix this issue, but I cant figure out what it could be after hours on the net and in the manual.  I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me with this issue.
    Thanks
    Gene

Another possible solution is to use a battery grip on your 70D and see if the dial on the grip will change the shutter speed.
There are some discussions about this problem on some earlier models Canon DSLR. Check it out.

  • Start camera in manual mode?

whether you can make the camera to start immediately in manual mode?

It's not possible when using the camera button but if you tap "Camera" in the app drawer or home screen it will go to Manual if that's what you used last time.

  • 430exII fires twice in Manual mode on radio triggers??????? I need it to stop!

I've been using 430exII on radio recievers and have had no problems until now.  I have it set to manual mode, on same channel as transmitter, didn't mess with any custom funcions, but am getting a double burst.  How can I stop this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Which radio triggers are you using?  Not sure how much Canon is going to help with 3rd party triggers.
So it's only happening with one of your flashes?  What if you put that trigger on a different flash? That way you can narrow down the flash or the trigger.  If it's the trigger I'd start with the battery.  Cheap triggers like the Yongnuos act funky when the battery starts to die.  I'd also double check your transmitter and receiver contacts, they can make things act up as well.   Pull them all the way off, all the way on snug and lock.
If it's the 430 acting up I'm not even sure where to start.  Batteries, contacts for corrosion, the usual stuff I guess.  See if it works properly on camera.  If your transmitter allows a test fire try that manually and see if it still double fires.

  • 7D Mark II Exposure Level Indicator missing in Manual Mode

    Hi guys
I just put my hand on the long awaited Canon7d mark ii; I was all excited up until I found out that there was no level indicator (horizontal) as it should be, on Manual mode. Weird thing is, all the other modes have the indicator illuminated except in Manual mode, which I believe is the mode whith the greatest need for it. To make matters worse, the vertical level indicator is far off to the right, and not very bright as well. C'mon Canon, you have a great product, but seriously!

    Firmware won't fix it.
And "the cop out or excuse" (nice - let's call it the reason) is that this is how it's done in the 1D-x and earlier pro bodies - and if it's good enough for pros, we should be able to adjust, eh?
    Took me about ten seconds.
and I soon to notice how anoying this is for many photographers,
Says who? You and one other guy on an under-used forum which is self-selecting for complaints?

  • Games in manual mode help

I put my ipod to manual mode so that I dont' have all the songs on my computer for more space.
I'd like to keep it in manual but I can't put my game back on the ipod, cause it used to be there.
My question is. If I turn back on the auto sync for games will it turn everything to sync and whipe out my songs? Because I've had to re-add everything twice because I didn't have it all in manual. So does anyone know for sure that it won't touch the music?
    compaq presario v2000 Windows XP

No, it wil not affect your music's syncing settings.
I've tried this kind of thing myself. For example, setting "Podcasts" to "automatic-update" didn't affect my music settings, which where on manual.
In addition, I've never heard of that happening, and your settings will be safe if nothing weird happens (the computer promptly shuts down, for example..which I've never heard of with your situation either.)
