Pixel/cm issue

Hi everyone,
I'm having some trouble with Fireworks 8. It seems that (after a recent Adobe pdf reader upgrade) when handling the width and the height of an object (whatever it is), the dimensions in the "properties" pannel are given from now on in cm and no more in px for me... and this happens when working on recorded projects and also when I open a new project... I would be grateful if somebody could help me to get the dimensions in px and not in cm anymore...
Thanks in advance,
Marc

The pannel I'm talking about is the one above. The fields "W","H","X" and "Y" are specified in cm and not in pixel as usual (from the beginning I mean....) even though the document or project was created in pixel...

    Hello wmbell247,
It sounds like you are getting some graphical anomolies after updating to Mac OS X Mavericks. I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the following article named:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Also you can test the issue in Safe Mode, which the article references and see if the issue happens there. If not then a 3rd party login item may be causing an issue with the system:
OS X Mavericks: If you think you have incompatible login items
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14201
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • For those with pixel rendering issues and slowness issues

For anyone who doesnt know these little details when designing in Catalyst, I thought I would share and hopefully ease some peoples frustrations. Lets kick off with pixel issues.
You have either vector, raster, or components that are either: not aligning with everything else around it, even though it has the same X/Y value, the rounded corners of a rectangle vector object are distorted, or anything else you have experienced with pixel distortion or pixels just not lining up properly. Here is the issue. When you drag and drop an object from the library, wireframe components, or draw a new shape, it can have a decimal level pixel value. It does not say this in the property inspector though. So you may have a rectangle at a listed X/Y of 10,15 but it could actually be 10.3, 14.9. To fix this you have to type in a new value of at least 1 number higher or lower. Deleting the value and typing the same number in doesnt do anything. Neither does moving it with the arrow keys in hopes of it moving it to a whole pixel value. The arrow keys move by 1 pixel (or 10 if holding down shift). This should take care of most of your problems.
Now you may still have problems with the corners of rounded rectangles if you converted it to an Optimized Vector Graphics. For you Flash Pro users, from what I can tell, using "Optimize Vector Graphics" is basically the same as (in Flash) converting a vector shape into a MovieClip and in the property inspector, checking the "Cache as Bitmap" box. That option has Flash create a bitmap version of the vector shape so that it will not be re-drawn every frame, which is what the Flash player does with vector objects. So because it is converting your vector into raster, it kinda has issues with rounded corners when you have a stroke on the shape and pretty much only if you have a stroke. If you take the stroke off, and use Optimize Vector Graphics, you shouldn't have that problem anymore. But what if you needed that stroke? Simple, duplicate that shape, change its fill color to what you want the "stroke" color to be, increase its size by 2 pixels on the width and height for every number of thickness that you wanted with the stroke, and then set the X/Y of the "stroke" rectangle to a pixels less for whatever the "thickness" of your stroke is.
    Example:
    Rectangle - width:20, height:10, desired stroke thickness:2, X:10, Y:10
    Rectangle Stroke - width: 24, height:14, X:8, Y:8
    Rectangle - width:100, height:30, desired stroke thickness:1, X:15, Y:27
    Rectangle Stroke - width:102, height:32, X:14, Y:26
It wont look perfect but its pretty close if you do this and then draw a rectangle beside it with a real stroke. And if you still want to use Optimize Vector Graphics on it, just group the two rectangles together and then use Optimize on the group and no more distorted corners. This also applies to vector shapes in Flash Pro.
Lastly to talk about the slowness of Catalyst. You may or may not have read the posts from Adobe employees, but I can tell you that having fewer states helps with the responsiveness of it, but so does using the Optimize Vector Graphics as much as possible. I am working in a large scale project, and just from me converting all my vector background shapes, which was around 13 used across 6 main states, it helped significantly with Catalyst being more responsive for me.
Hoped this long post helped some people with any similar issues you might be having.

I noticed with my Charge phone that when I get a call the FIRST ring is highly muted (quite soft) and then all rings after that are full volume.
I wish that even the first ring was load (full volume) but I accept the fact that that is how GB 2.3.6 works.  Anyone know how to change this?
    Ya can't win 'em all.

  • Camera RAW pixel artifact issue

This is something that has been bothering me for a while and I don't understand how other people don't see it.. Mainly due to the fact that you need to be zoomed in about 300% or more on an image to see it. I have only seen Lightroom 3 rendered jpeg files without this problem. I am talking about the absurdly weird artifacts in the pixel makeup when zoomed in on a edited image rendered by Adobe Camera raw 5.6 and lower. It looks like worms have been moving around under all the pixels. It is not a clean and definate pixel noise ratio that you would get from rendering images from their native software for example ViewNX, Capture NX nor Canon's DPP.

    1. Do you see the worms in LR/ACR too, in this magnification, or only in the JPEG version?
    2. Do you see them in a TIFF as well?
    3. If they are not there in TIFF: create a JPEG from the TIFF. I guess LR too has a "preview" option, showing the effect of conversion in the image in the currently displayed magnification. Change the "quality" setting and watch for the effect (you have to wait a bit to see the effect of the change). If I do this in CS3, the worms are there up to quality 8, most of them vanish with 9 and it is clean from 10.
If the worms are visible already during the raw processing, i.e. in LR/ACR, then it is a different issue, probably camera dependent.

  • Aperture 2.x and Nikon D3 Pixel Size issues

I've noticed that Aperture 2.x does not use the correct pixel size for Nikon D3 images: they are read by Aperture as 4272x2828 instead of 4256x2832 as they should be. Exported images are similarly incorrect. (This also creates an awkward aspect ration of 151:100).
After the problems with Aperture displaying D2x files shot in High-Speed Crop mode I find this really irritating. Is Aperture slightly blowing up the image in the longer dimension to gain these extra pixels? It makes me wonder if Aperture/Apple can't get the basics like the size of the picture right what else might be getting misread/mishandled behind the scenes.

ts, i know this issue has been discussed many times on this forum, however it still is a problem. it might not be an issue if all you use is the file created by aperture, however if you are retouching the same image (or a series of images) converted by different applications, this becomes a serious issue.
also, in several previous threads you find statements such as "there is more to a raw file than nx or photoshop displays". this is true and false. if aperture would render more sensor pixels than capture or photoshop, the "cropped" image out of photoshop or capture would exactly (pin accurate) match at least parts of the "oversized" export from aperture. this is not the case.
for me, this issue (even though often discussed) is still not solved and seams to apply to raw from various cameras, nikon and canon. in my case, it applies to nikon D200, D300 and D3.
every time i have to create layered illustrations, retouching work, layer different exposures in photoshop (anything that requires several instances of the same image rendered by different applications), i can't use aperture adjusted images. in some cases, creating two version in aperture (then export and overlay in photoshop) can do the trick, in other cases you would like to use the advantages of different applications (nx for ca, aperture for global adjustments, psd for lens correction etc etc).
i understand, this might be a minor issue (if at all) for most, however if your core business is image retouching, and you deal with thousands of images from various photographers, pixel accuracy can become a serious issue (feel free to call it a BFD if you like).

Re: Kernel Panic on iMac Intel Core 2 Duo with Lion 10.7.1, 4gb RAM
27-sep-2011 11:53 (in response to jose guzman) Launch the Apple Hardware Test program, run the extended tests at least twice, and then download and run Rember. All indications are that you have bad or flaky RAM.
    27" i7 iMac 10.6.8 , Mac OS X (10.7.1), G4 450 MP 1.5 GB RAM w/(10.5.8/10.4.11/9.2.2)
I did that and it doesn't work

  • New pixelated text issue

I have a new problem that just came up, all of the black text on my screen has suddenly started to look pixelated around the edges. Before all of my text was nice and smooth. It appeared to happen right after I installed the new security update. My computer froze twice on startup (the first time it has ever happened) right after I restarted from the update. I also had a couple minor preferences go away (homepage setting in Safari and the stock choices on my stock widget) I checked all of the display settings and nothing looks wrong. Any ideas??

    System Preferences/Appearance
At the bottom [Turn off text smoothing for Font sizes]
Set it lower (I use 4)

  • All video streaming has continuous pixelation/macroblocking issues

On youtube, dailymotion, vimeo, etc.  (all internet video streaming sites)  the video becomes pixelated and I get macroblocking.  It appears for a few seconds, then it goes away, then a few seconds later it comes back.  It does this continuously off and on.  This happened before and I couldn't find a solution so I re-installed Windows 7 and then the problem went away.  But only 3 weeks into the new re-boot and the problem has resurfaced.  I have no idea what happened or how to fix it.  Please help!!  I can give you the specs for my PC and let you know whatever else is needed to solve this problem.  My PC skills are not that advanced, but I can follow directions very well.  This problem is starting to really piss me off.  When I download a youtube video, the problem is not there when I watch it on VLC media player.  The problem is only present when I am streaming it from the internet.  This problem just "appeared".  It was not there on a clean re-install.  I  don't know how it re-surfaced again.  I've searched through other forums an I cannot find an answer anywhere!  I need to know the source of the problem and I thought it might be Adobe Flash, but I am not sure.  When the videos become pixelated, it looks like this (I took a screen shot):

My browser is Firefox version 18.0 (it is up-to-date) and I have DownloadHelper version 4.9.13 and Adblock Plus version 2.2.1 as add-ons.  My Adobe flash player version is 11.5.502.146.  My operating system is Windows 7 Professional (64-bit).  The HTML5 video worked perfectly fine.  No problems with that one.  The Non-HTML5 video showed the same problems I keep running into.  Here is a cropped screenshot of it:
Thank you.  I really appreciate the help.  So what is the next step???  The HTML5 video had no problems and worked perfectly fine.  I figured it would just be easier to show my entire system information (motherboard, processor, video card etc.), so here is the output from the DirectX Diagnotic Tool regarding my system information:

  • Vertical pixel lines issue

This is already a widespread problem with 17 inch PowerBooks, see this topic:

But obviously it's not limited to 17", as I had to discover yesterday:

This is a common LCD issue for LCDs whose power inverter connection cable gets loose, frayed, or broken. If the machine is under AppleCare and you haven´t bumped the machine into any doors, or it hasn´t fallen, have the machine looked at by a service technician. If however, you have had any accidents which might have caused it to get loose or frayed, I´d contact one of these shops as they often cost less than Apple to repair

  • Strange Pixelated Display Issue

I recently began having a display problem with my 17" Macbook Pro (2007), running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. It's easier to show photos of the problem than to describe how it looks. See the below links.
This happens within the first few minutes of booting my system up. It isn't always so immediate. It always gets worse by itself over time. Eventually, I get the beach ball and my system completely locks up.
You'll see in the 3rd photo that it's happening at the login screen and that it doesn't happen around our user names and icons. On the 4th image, this is what happened when my system went to sleep by itself. I awoke it using the spacebar and the distortion was in a totally different pattern.

I'm really hoping the problelm is software based and not hardware. Any direction that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

So, after creating a bootable Lion USB drive and booting up with it, I still saw the distortion, telling me it's not OS X on my system drive.
Tafftech, your gut feeling is my worst gut feeling as well. Considering this thing isn't covered under an AppleCare plan any longer, I'm considering buying a used logic board from Ebay and using the walkthrough tutorial on ifixit.com to replace it myself. I found some at around $250. Not super happy about having to do that, but it's by far the cheapest route to hopefully solving this problem.
Before I started a career in design and animation, I was an IT guy, so I'm not afriad to get my hands dirty. Although this will be a bigger challange that I usually take on.
Anyone think this is a really bad idea for any reason? I appreciate other's more informed opinions on this stuff.
    Thanks

  • 9800 XT residual pixel issues

Hi everyone, I have a Dual 1.8 G5 with 2 gb of RAM and a Viewsonic VX2025 LCD monitor. I recently purchased a system pull 9800 XT card from OWC a couple of days ago and popped it in.
I know this card was an upgrade option for my 1.8 from Apple so I thought there should be no issues with it...not really.
I have been suffering some odd pixel issues...not really pixels but rather sizeable SQUARES all over the screen. Hovering a window or even doing a selection area will remove these 'pixels' but will reappear later on. Not in the same spots mind you. Happens as well when watching DVDs.
Games are the worst. It's almost as if I can see the refresh or 'scan'. I have zapped the PRAM, I have repaired permissions and have even popped the card in and out to make sure the contacts are true.
Please please please...anyone with advice, any advice!
    Dual 1.8 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2gb RAM and a Viewsonic VX2025 monitor

Ok, I'm back and the card is acting up again.
A few days ago, I walked in my computer room and saw my G5 had the gray screen crash. Fan was kicking hard. I did the shutdown and restarted after 15 seconds. My screen was suffering the pixel/quilt issue I had awhile ago.
I ended up raising the overclock of the card from 5% to almost 10% to make the pixels go away. Also, from boot up, It seems there is quite a delay for aticellerator to kick in and the initial screen is riddled with squares. I have to activate the screensaver to 'wash off' of pixels and get a decent desktop.
    I have tried reinstalling aticellerator.
I have physically removed and reinstalled the card.
I have downloaded whatever drivers ati had to offer for the 9800xt.
I have even reinstalled my system. I did this thinking maybe with a fresh reinstall and Tiger having a chance to rescan my current setup would be able to install the appropriate drivers...in case there was a conflict somewhere.
    Any advice anyone? Thanks!

  • [FIX] Yoga 13 Windows 8.1 Touchpad and Pixelated Windows.

Hello everybody! This would be my first post in this forum.
I thought that I had to share this since I wasn't able to find a fix for the Touchpad. And since I was also able to solve the pixelated windows issue, I thought I might want to share it.
    [ISSUES]
    1. Touchpad multi gestures not working and slow move speed.
The first thing that I realised after booting up my Yoga after the Windows 8.1 update was that the cursor was moving rather slow. I tried meddling with the pointer speed in the mouse options under Control Panel and it didn't seem to work.
Started Googling and was figured that by installing the Synaptics Drivers, it would solve the problem. Unfortunately, nothing changed. Since I know that it is driver related, I got to work and remembered some simple steps to update hardware drivers. Let's get started!
    Steps:
    1. Go to Control Panel.
    2. Go to Device Manager. You should see a long list of hardware that your system is supporting.
    3. Find "Mice and other pointing devices". Click the arrow to expand the drop down list.
    4. You should see "PS/2 Mouse" or something like that. (I have already updated it and it no longer displays that name)
    5. Right click the "PS/2 Mouse" and click "Update Driver Software".
Make sure you are connected to the internet and let it install the drivers. The cursor speed and touchpad multi gestures will go back to normal!!
    2. Pixelated Windows.
This would be the second thing that I noticed when I opened my Chrome browser. The words were very pixelated. Initially, I suspected the screen resolution, but it wasn't the case. However, I was close. After some Googling, it had to do with the Display.
    Steps:
    1. Right click on your Desktop.
    2. Click "Screen Resolution". You should see the options to Change your display.
    3. There should be 3 options that are highlighted in BLUE. Select "Make text and other items larger or smaller".
    4. Under "Change the size of all items", select "Smaller - 100%".
    5. Check "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays"
    6. Apply
And that should solve both issues. So far, I have only encountered these two issues. If I were to find out more, I would certainly add them to this thread.
    Cheers everyone!
    Solved!

    Hi uzentan,
thanks for posting this up. This is a great guide in which we will be happy to assist in publishing as a Knowledge base artile for customer to work through their issue.

  • No more Pixel dimension

    Hi everybody,
I am in need of some advice. My current project is developing a prototype GUI for a copier. I've done more of these projects before and it was always safe to say that only one panel screen size needed to be supported (i.e. e.g. only 800x600 or 1024x768). For that reason layout managers were never used since they had absolutely no advantages for us.
Now the need for different screen resolutions seems to get bigger and the question is how much effort we want to put in supporting different screen resolutions. Since it is still not a desktop application it is also not possible to resize the screen size runtime, so still layout managers have not very much value (yet?). But when the layouts are set to 'null' and we need to switch from 800x600 to 1024x768 it is quite some work to 'fix' all the setBounds methods.
So basically what I need is a way to define component sizes by metric systems (mm, cm or something) and not by pixels . The open-source project of jgoodies 'forms' fulfill these needs, but of course is written for desktop java applications where the user is allowed to resize the frame.
Is there anybody who can help me out with some ideas? Did anyone by accident had the same problems to solve? Is somebody already familiar with the 'pixel' size issues? Is there any knowledge on this forum about other size dimensions then pixel sizes?
Many thanks in advance, I will go on searching the web but your help is more then welcome.
    Kind regards, Bas

Hmm.. not too much response :). can anybody help me out a little?

The I read their response here the more I despise them too for providing blanket responses to genuine customer questions and skirting the issue. Oh, and lying. Or at least, not being told the truth from Management as the real reason, even thoguh they probably know but aren't allowed top publicly say...
Adobe, in regards to the pixel bender issue, you have failed your customers. Period. Thanks for noticing (sarcasm).
