Pixelated / Corrupt Quicktime Movie Export

Final Cut Pro Version 7
Hey guys,
So I've finished editing a long film of about 1 hour and 18 minutes. When I use the Export > To Quicktime Movie, my film comes out super pixelated after the first cut in Quicktime X. I suspect the file is corrupt because when I play it in VLC, the first cut plays nicely and then all the sudden, I will get the hypnotic-dreaded-beach ball-of-death, and then VLC crashes.
Here is a screen shot of beofore the corruption: http://grab.by/ZZT
Here is a screen shot of when it gets corrupted: http://grab.by/ZZU
I have tried exporting three times now (which takes hours every time) as a self contained film and also as a non self contained film, and both times the movie gets corrupt after that first cut every time. When I render just parts of it, everything comes out fine. One thing I noticed is the part that works says "rendered" on the render bar and the part that gets corrupt says "full" on the render bar. Normally it should work with both full and rendered video when I export, but I don't know.
I have tried dumping preferences multiple times, doing Save As... on my prejects and repairing permissions to no avail.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry about that!
My sources are all shot from the same camera, and are HDV 1080p30 at 29.97 fps. My sequence settings are HD 1440 x 1080 (16:9) with an editing time base of 29.97 fps. The quicklime video settings are HDV 1080i60 (is this the problem?).
I'm exporting to my boot drive, so HFS+ journaled. Not sure if it matters but it is partitioned with an NTFS bootcamp on the same disk.

  • Preview in Canvas and Quicktime movie export  low quality

    Hi Guys
I am trying to make a slideshow/movie using Final Cut Express HD 3.0 the preview in the canvas is very low quality both with the images and titles. I have tried to export to quicktime movie but that movie is still very low quality. They are not sharp and are pixelated. The images look fine with Preview and iPhoto. I do not have quicktime pro I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
    Thanks a bunch

This comes up pretty off and was discussed in the last couple of days. You might do a forum search. Basically you'll looking at a lores display unless you look at the output on a video monitor.

  • Quicktime movie export from Flash CS3 is skipping frame.

When I try to export Quicktime movie from Flash CS3, the
resulting mov file is skipping frames. i.e.: The movie is showing
    frame number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 10, 11, 12, 12, 12, 15
    etc...
As you can see the frame number 7 is repeated 3 times and
frame 8 and 9 are nowhere to be found.
The last configuration I used is 960x540, Sorenson video 3
medium quality, 25 fps, keyframe every 25 frames. 6400 kbits/s.
I tried various configurations, with different codecs and even
with keyframe all frames and I always get simillar problems.
Anyone have an idea what is going on, and how to fix this?
    Thank you,
    Olivier.

The QT exporter in Flash is honestly my least favorite
feature - not the feature itself but how it
works (or how it doesn't work in some cases). For me it is
almost unusable unless you have a very
short timeline, small stage, lower frame rate - like AS
generated effects or something - otherwise,
for true frame accuracy to video output - it is not reliable
enough and not fast enough for any real
    world production environment.
So typically for me - I love SWF2Video (www.flashants.com) as
it takes any SWF and makes it into an
AVI that is frame accurate no matter what the frame rate is -
quite incredible - enough so that I
always felt it should have been bundled with Flash (as well
    as Wacom tablets).
Harmony is an incredible product - as is SOLO and TBS (Toon
Boom mStudio) - each of those programs
are dedicated animation programs designed for output to video
    - Flash has a lot of hats to fill and
it was never really designed for animation to video even
though many of us have found it suitable
for all intents and purposes as an animation program for full
    production.
But all in all - the quicktime exporter doesn't really
deliver how we would expect it too I am sorry
to say - I only hope it works as well as it does on the Mac
(Mac users could always choose to export
to Quicktime Video but not PC users).
For now if I am exporting to video I keep it all on the
timeline or nested in Graphic symbols or use
    the SWF2Video tool.
    hope this helps.

  • HT3775 How to fix corrupt quicktime movies

Hi I have several quicktime movies taken with my iPhone 4S which were corrupted when copying them across to my computer. Is anyone aware of any tools or methods to repair these corrupt files?

Easiest thing to do is delete them from the MBA and recopy them.

  • Missing Audio from Quicktime Movie Export

I've exported a Quicktime movie from FCP 6.0.4. It's an infomercial show so the call-to-action is a nested sequence on the main sequence timeline. When playing the Quicktime movie, the audio drops off in several 2 second bursts right in the middle of the show during the call-to-action. When played directly from the timeline, the audio is there fine. Early in the show, the same call-to-action nested sequence does NOT drop the audio.
I dragged the audio clip to a new track (one track above) and then re-rendered and re-output to a Quicktime movie. The same audio drop occurred in the same place again. I then marked an In/Out just for that small segment in the timeline and re-output again to Quicktime and the audio is fine.
My final Quicktime movie size is 150 GB (gigs) because it is full HD, uncompressed, 8-bit 4:2:2, and 28:30 long.
I've had a HORRIFIC experience the past 3 months just getting files to render properly and stay connected. It baffles me why Apple is working on SO many bells and whistles for FCP without having mastered their basic file management. It makes me want to check into AVID to see if they can at least give us the basics competently.
Thanks for any advice on this - I'm going to try to render out now in smaller segments and then patch together. Sad...

Make sure you do an audio mixdown. The manual explains the process.

  • Bitty blurry Quicktime movie exported

Hi folks. My first venture on iMovie is a 4-min. edit of video clips, a couple of still images, and audio. The visuals look decent in iMovie HD, but after exporting, the piece looks very bitty and blurry, really quite bad. I've exported in every option available (email, expert, etc.), to no avail. I am interested in attaching the movie to emails to friends.
    Any suggestions?

  • How to make quicktime movie export interactive.

I've keynote 09 presentation that has images and videos inserted into it. I need to share this people across on internet. I've created quicktime .mov file for this. My file size comes roughly around 500MB. Everything is fine, only problem I see is when I play quicktime file on my mac mini it is interactive, so I click on mouse and it moves to next text or next slide. Whereas same file when I run on my Windows 7 machine it just keeps flying thru it without any interaction from user. Same thing happesn when I try to play quicktime file uploaded on vimeo or smugmug.com, file just flies thru all slides without any user interaction.
Is there a way where I can make my slideshow to be interactive ?
    thanks
    -mj

The problem probably is because you are opening the QT movie with Windows Media Player
    Solution
Download Quicktime player to your windows 7 PC
Then right click the QT movie you made from keynote and select 'open with'
Then select quicktime (the QT player downloaded)
    Hope that helps

  • How do you improve quality of QuickTime movie exported from Flash?

    Hi
I have designed a Flash animation for a client who has asked me to also provide it in a format which can be used in a film he wants to produce in Apple Final Cut Pro.  I assumed the best format would be QuickTime but whenever I export the Flash file in to QuickTime the quality of the film is awful - the graphics leave fragments of themselves behind as they move (if that makes sense?!) and the overall quality isn't very crisp.
I have tried various export settings and followed a few tutorials online but still having no success!  If anyone can make any suggestions I would really appreciate it or is there even another file format that can be used with Final Cut Pro?
    Thanks for your advice!!

Whenever I export an animation out for video, I always export it uncompressed.  It gives a very large file, but then you don't have to worry about it getting compressed multiple times (as the video will be compressed when completed), and I have not had any problems with it.
If you are still having problems with QT export - I have heard reports that setting a time in the export (stop after X time, rather than stop at last frame) will get rid of it.
And, if you still have problems exporting to QT, then I suggest exporting to AVI and converting to MOV with a separate tool.

  • Adjust audio BitRate for a Quicktime .MOV export

I am trying to export a >MOV file. Settings are Quicktime > H.264 codec. Everything looks and sounds fine, but I am uploading to a TV station and they are saying that the audio BitRate is too low. I can't seem to find anywhere to adjust the audio bitrate in the export settings. There is no option. Unlike when exporting a .Mpeg2 or other formats where it is an option. Any ideas?

Strange. I do not have the option. Are you using CC?

  • Tracks dropped on Quicktime movie export?

I've been trying to burn DVDs with Toast 7 by simply exporting the FCP project as a non self contained movie then dragging it into the Toast DVD-video option, however, whenever I save any projects this way I seem to lose quite a number of audio tracks (before I even drag it into Toast). They are just simply not there. I'm missing something here... the project I'm exporting has 18 audio tracks. Any suggestions??
    Thanks in advance.

You need to mixdown the audio. It's a menu option...where all the render stuff is (sorry, not in front of FCP right now)

  • Can't Export from FCE to QuickTime Movie w/o recompression

I have problems with choosing the correct settings for export of a FCE video clip to QuickTime Movie. I want the best possible quality (without recompression).
    In the manual it says:
"Exporting a Self-Contained Movie Without Recompressing the Media
If you choose to export a self-contained movie, you have the option to not recompress the media in your clip or sequence. If you deselect the Recompress All Frames option and choose Current Settings from the Setting pop-up menu, Final Cut Express simply copies frames from existing media files into the new file with no recompression."
I can't find that option in FCE 4.01 - is it a mistake in the manual? My source media was captured from miniDV tape and the captured media file has the following formate:
Codec: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Linear PCM, Timecode
    Color profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Total bit rate: 29,794
My exported file has this format:
    Dimensions: 720 x 480
    Codec: Linear PCM, H.264
    Color Profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Audio Channels: 2
    Total bit rate: 2,151
I have seen this question in the FCE archive and people simply say there is no recompression in FCE Export to QT Movie, but clearly there is since I see the H.264 codec listed in my output file and the bit-rate is a about 1/14th the rate of the original source material. The output file size is also much smaller. What gives. How can I get an unrecompressed file out of FCE so I can send it to a coworker for futher editing with his FCE.

    Double check:
There are only three options in the QuickTime Movie export window.
    1. Include: The Audio and Video, Audio Only or Video Only.
    2. Markers: Select whateve you want or don't want.
    3. The Make Movie Self-Contained selection check box.
    Is this what  you see?
The export will mirror the Sequence or selected part of the Sequence.

  • Visual glitches in exported QuickTime movie (but not in FCP); any ideas?

We shot a short film with a Sony camera (standard def), but it apparently isn't compatible w/ FC Studio software. So we captured and did a rough-cut on my friend's PC rig (Adobe Premiere Pro), burned raw files of our rough cut on to dvd's, then transferred from those discs to my rig. The codec of this footage worked fine in FCP, but wasn't supported by Color. So I used Compressor to convert all referenced files to Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), as it seemed the best conversion I tried (no loss of film quality) and obviously now is supported by Color.
However, the final rendered QuickTime movie (exported from FCP) had some odd visual glitches that occur right before the end of a clip (perhaps 10-15 frames before the end): it's like the brightness or gamma level suddenly drops a noticeable amount right at the end of a clip (again, ~10-15 frames). I couldn't say for sure if it's the last 10-15 frames that are appropriate and the REST of the clip is what's out of whack.
Initially, I thought it was a problem with Color (as these were Color-corrected sequences I was exporting). But I just tried it with a non-color corrected sequence, and the errors are still there.
Any ideas what's going on? Any suggestions/solutions? Did I pick an inappropriate conversion on Compressor?

I think this may be an AVI conversion glitch.
Well I am guessing that from Premiere Pro they came out as AVI? If that is the case well the best thing to do would be to open it with Quicktime Pro and export it as DV/DVCPRO NTSC .MOV
From there you should be able to bring it into FCP without a hitch and then put color down,
But in order to save time I would try first exporting just that last little segment again throwing it into Compressor and see if it comes out okay. It may be that on capture there was some dropped frames on the end so double check that last little bit.

  • Trouble Exporting to 16:9 with Quicktime Movie or Quicktime Conversion

I have created a 5 minute movie using shots taken from my Sony HDR-FX1. The shots were native 16:9. They imported fine into FCEHD. While editing in FCEHD, the clips all displayed in the viewer as 16:9. When I exported to Quicktime Movie, the resulting product was 16:9. When I exported using Quicktime Conversion, my product became 4:3.
Having read other posts here, I looked closely at all clips (which were all checked as Anamorphic), and my Sequence (which was not checked Anamorphic -- but was instead HD1440x1080). I then created a new sequence, which was checked as Anamorphic, copied my clips to it, then exported it. It got worse. Now, it exports 4:3 using both Quicktime Movie and Quicktime Conversion.
I then created a new project, created a new sequence set to Anamorphic, then copied one clip into it from my earlier project and exported it -- same result. I then imported a clip into this new project from the original files from my camera and exported -- same result.
One final note, when looking at the Frame Size in the properties of my sequence and clips, it is set to 720x480. And, when I look at the Get Info on the exported files of the original, I see 1920x1080 (Quicktime Movie export) and 1440x1080 (Quicktime Conversion export) before I created the new sequence; then 720x480 in both after I created the new sequence.
Any help you can provide would be incredibly appreciated!
    Dan

You are right. My original sequence was marked as HD. When I exported that one to Quicktime Movie, it displayed 16:9.
Then, I created a new sequence that was 720x480 and checked as anamorphic. That one, exported with Quicktime Movie and/or Quicktime Conversion was 720x480 and was squeezed into 4:3 rather than displaying in Quicktime as 16:9.
Last night, I burned this to DVD using iMovie and it displayed properly on my 16:9 television. But, alas, it is squeezed on my 4:3 television (rather than letterboxed).
Also, I exported to Quicktime Conversion and used "custom size" of 720x405 and achieved a movie that will play in Quicktime as near 16:9 so I can put it up on the web in the right dimensions.
Is there a better/easier way to export footage shot 16:9, edited 16:9 so that it automatically exports 16:9 for use in Quicktime and/or on a DVD?

I have a problem. When I want to export my project sometimes I use Quicktime Conversion, but, using the conversion, my videos are disorted by some horizontal bars, but, that's okay. I found that when I use Quicktime Movie exporting my videos look perfect. I just discovered that if I export it to NSTC or something like that, it looks perfect!
