Pixelated/ Digitized Images

I finished a shoot earlier in the week and attempted to import the images to Aperture. The images look fine on my LCD screen on the back of my D70 an DD200. However, after importing they are distorted. Has anyone ever experienced this problem? If so, how did you resolve the issue? I'm hard pressed to believe that it is my CF because no matter which one I use, the images come out the same. Any suggestions? By the way, I'm using Apertuere version 1.5.1. Thanks in advance!

Apple Store may be your best bet.
Have you tried importing some of the images Aperture fails to render into iPhoto? I believe you said you'd tried Preview but not sure it was on the same image(s). Aperture, iPhoto and Preview all use CoreImage to handle RAW conversion, although Aperture uses more elegant settings and fine tuning adjustments. However, at this level, either should show that the image is OK, or point at CoreImage being the culprit.
Other ideas to try to try and narrow the issue down:
Move your Aperture library / rename it.
Open Aperture which will create a new library
Set preferences to import as reference master
Import images (this will leave the images in their existing folder on your drive)
What do you get?
If the above shows pixelated images, then delete the project, reset the Preferences to import to Aperture managed library, and re-import. This will eliminate physical import to the library.
If the images are still pixelated, then go to the next test.
What happens if you import into PS CS2 / ACR and convert to PSD/TIF. Is the image OK?
If so, save as PSD/TIF (ensure Maximize compatibility is set to On or Ask in CS2 Preferences)
Also save a second version as a high quality (12) JPG
Import into Aperture as above, leaving files in their existing folder location.
What do you get?
If the above shows pixelated images as per NEF images, then we eliminate the RAW processing step.
Do you have access to another Mac running 10.4.8? Try the same thing on that computer (using your external HDD for the reference files).
You said your MBP has been playing up over the last few days. How so, and in general or only with Aperture?

How do I remove a stray digital image of a backward slash from my computer screen?

I don't know if it's myself here Allen, but these look like marks relating to the LCD panel itself.
I've seen this on iBooks which have small marks. They are not dead pixels as such but darken spots cast in a  very small line. When I've seen this before it's been due to pen pointers or object witch have been used to point at the screen. Normally people have used these object to touch the screen, which has left these very small marks.
It seem to be common on earlier iBook's and PowerBook, maybe due to the type of LCD panel they use.
I maybe wrong here, but thought it might be worth mentioning.

  • I use an iMac 10.6.8 with iPhoto '09 to download digital images from Canon DSLRs. Until the last two weeks there has been no trouble whatever importing images by  a USB connection from either camera to the Mac. Now the process will not kick in. Any ideas?

I use an Mac OSX 10.6.8 with iPhoto 09 to download digital images from two Canon DSLRs. Until the last week, there has been no problem whatever in launching the import procedure once the USB connection has been connected and the camera switched on. Now the process will not kick in at all for either camera.  I can't find a solution through iPhoto help or from other sources.
Any ideas to fix?  (I admit I have not tested the USB cable at this time).

    What does "kick in" mean?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • How can a 200 pixels/cm image result in a 118 pixels/inch PDF?

    Hi all,
Just encountered a problem that is a bit puzzling me.
If you create a 1cm by 1cm image in Photoshop, with a resolution of 200 pixels/cm (= 508 pixels/inch), and you save this image to PDF, using for instance the PDF/X-1a presets or one of the Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF presets, the image will be downsampled to 118 pixels/inch (or 47 pixels/cm). This does not compute. When checking the PDF-settings, I would suspect the image would be downsampled to 118 pixels/cm (or appr. 300ppi), as you would believe from the PDF-settings, but not to 47pixels/cm or 118 pixels/inch.
Is seems to me that Photoshop is taking the value (the '118') for the downsampling, but without translating my pixels/cm to pixels/inch first (it just downsamples 200 pixels/cm to 118 pixels/inch), which doesn’t seem very correct to me.
This is a huge problem. If people would accidently use pixels/cm to set their image size, they will end up with a PDF that is not printable and will be rejected by most printing companies because of too low image resolution. I tried to do the same with Adobe Photoshop CS3, but the same problem.
Anyone that can help me try to understand the logic behind this? Below the downsamping settings that would make me believe that I would end up with a 118 pixels/cm image instead of 118ppi and some other screenshots to clarify the issue.
    Original image resolution in Photoshop
Image resolution (or preflight error) after saving to PDF

Because it is only 118 ppi or 47pp/cm. Remember: the original image was 1cm wide and had a resolution of 200 pp/cm. The resulting PDF contains only 47 pixels for the entire width (the entire 1cm), so: 47pixels x 1cm or 2,54 inches = 47 pp/cm or 118 pixels/inch. It looks like there were really thrown away too many pixels during downsampling (calculation error in the PDF presets downsampling algorithm).
Actual number of pixels in the PDF (dimension: 1cm x 1cm):

    Hi,
Digital imaging monitor is a part of the HP software that communicates with your HP printer. This program enables you to read the inklevels, get an out of paper message, scan from the unit to the comuter and so on. Its not neccesary, but it will limit the printers use if you remove it.

  • Colour in black and white digital image

how do i colour in a black and white digital image please. I have never used this programme before, so any idiots guide you can give me would be great.

Go to Image Menu>Mode and be sure that RGB color is checked
Open your image, duplicate the background layer, shut off the visibility of this layer by clicking on the eye icon, and work on background copy layer
Set your foreground color chip to red (I used this for the blouse)
In the tool box, activate the magic wand tool. On the tool's option bar, check "contiguous", and set tolerance to 40.
Click on the blouse. You will see "marching ants", indicating that the blouse is selected
Go to Edit menu>Fill selection and under contents use foreground color
Press CTRL+D on keyboard to get rid of the marching ants
Next I worked on the skirt with green foreground color, and repeated steps 2-5. And so on .
Note, that in order to get a clean selection you may have to reduce the tolerance setting. For the skirt-hem, I had to go down to 8 in each pleat.
Here is a partially completed rendition for your reference.

  • Avoiding pixelation with image resizing

i just redesigned my site (with a ton of help from many people on this forum--thank you nancy riki osgood

i have my thumbnails resizing (using max width: 100%) in a gallery but on a large browser window like my 32" monitor they get pixelated when they scale up, particularly the text..
is there  a way to start with a higher resolution image and display them at a smaller display size so when they scale up they stay crisp?

    thanks..

    Hello mate, Welcome back!
Ideally, I wouldn't do a 100% width for your images on the site for enlarging them. No matter what plug-in you use, you'll definitely end up pixelating the image at least to some extent.
However, if you're definitely looking at achieving this, try this: http://archive.plugins.jquery.com/project/aeImageResize
And, start with a higher resolution of the image. The plug-in will scale it down proportionately depending on the screen dimension you're displaying it on, rather the DIV dimension that holds the image inside.
Also, it is to be noted that usage of multiple jQuery will lead to a performance issue on your site. You should keep this in mind.
One last thing: having said that you should start with a higher image resolution, your load time for the site will considerably increase as the plug-in only scales down the image visually, it doesn't load differently sized images!
If I were you, I'll keep the thumbnail images to zoom in to one optimal size and then provide a link inside my fancybox/ lightbox to a much fuller, bigger size image - if someone is interested in seeing them/ downloading the big size image.

  • Pixelated jpg image files

    Muse 7.2, OSX 10.9.2
I have inline images and a gallery slideshow on a site.  Some of these images are extremely pixelated on the rendered web page.  All the images were sized in Photoshop to the exact pixel dimensions and saved as  saved-for-web jpegs in Photoshop.
Several of the inline images have been on my site for about a year and only recently appear pixelated.  I'm making some edits to my site but have not touched any of the images that are now pixelated.  Also, I have embedded the links to all images so Muse need not search through my computer for the image source files.
I did replace one pixelated inline image with the same source file, but with a different file name.  For some reason this image now renders properly.  However this technique did not have any benefit on several images in a slideshow gallery that has both thumbnails and full size image.
What's your opinion why these images appear pixelated, and what suggestions might overcome the trouble?
    Best regards,
    Tim

    Zak,
A second thought on pixellated images.  Currently I have overcome the problem by replacing all the affected images with a replacement image (the same original) but using a different file name.  These same images are used elsewhere in the site, but at different sizes.  Likely the file name was the same as the images that became pixellated.
The odd thing is that other images that have not pixellated have the same treatment.  In several places (pages) the images are the same with the same file name but at a different size.
I have not made this site active yet but these odd problems have made for lots of extra work to sort out.  You can see this site at:  www.fractalfotos.com/debV3/index.html
    Thanks, Tim

  • Transfer Captions, other metadata to iPhoto from Microsoft Digital Imaging

My dad has all of his photos in Microsoft Digital Imaging Suite and he is trying to get all of the captions (metadata?) transferred over to iPhoto. Is there some way of doing this???

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Does this suite write this data to the IPTC tags on the pics? If so, then get it to do that and that should work.

Digital Image Correlation is not implemented in LabVIEW as part of a toolkit or module at this point. This may be something good to suggest on the LabVIEW Idea Exchange if you're interested.

  • Digital Imaging missing files

I cannot use scan functions on my Windows 7(64) PC .  I have used the Print and Scan Doctor and have downloaded, installed and unistalled many times the newest drivers.  The uninstall/install hangs up because a file (or more) is corrupted or missing.  The last message referred to C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpotradd.dll.  I think I need to install Digital Imaging to replace or repair the missing files and simply trying to install the newest drivers doesn't work.  Is there an ability to download and install just Digital Imaging?  I have the printer installed on a local network and the printer functions work fine on my Windows 7 (64) laptop.

    Hi @Literal1
I would like to help you with your Digital imaging. The best think to do is perform a complete comprehensive uninstall and reinstall of the full feature software and driver.
Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type %temp%
Delete all files and folders from the temp folder. Choose skip if any pop ups appear saying any of the files could not be deleted
Download the software and choose to save as, save to desktop  >PS_AIO_06_C309g-m_USW_Full_Win_WW_140_175-4.exe
After the software downloads and extracts, open the temp folder again, use the instructions from step 1.
Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
    Open folder Util
    Open folder CCC
If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have anon-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
Follow these steps to reset the registry settings and options for Windows Installer.
Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box
In the Open box, type msiexec /unregister, and then click OK.
