Pixelated icons in mountain lion

Icons are unexpectedly pixelated. As far as I can tell it is with newly installed applications. The icons of the apps that came with ML appear fine.
Software  OS X 10.8 (12A269)

Mende1, I appreciate your help and effort!
Killed the dock, no difference in LaunchPad icons.
Restarted OSX, no difference either.
Checked /Library/Preferences again, neither  com.apple.dock.db nor com.apple.dock.plist are present (are they not rewritten when they've been deleted?). But there is a new com.apple.dockfixup.plist
eM-Lin:Preferences letterror3$ ls -la | grep *dock*

  • Adding eject toolbar icons in Mountain Lion

how can I add the eject icon in Mountain Lion's toolbar?

Add an Eject Item to the Menu Bar
Open a Finder window and navigate to /System/Library/Core Services/ Menu Extras.
Double-click the Eject.menu item in the Menu Extras folder.
Once it's there, you can command-drag it to where you want it.

  • Can I get rid of the MobileMe sync icon in Mountain Lion?

I recently set up a new MacBook Pro by using setup assistant to restore from a Time Machine backup of an old Snow Leopard machine. In general it's worked fine, but I still seem to have the old MobileMe sync icon in the menu bar, and as far as I can work out it's now totally functionless. MobileMe no longer exists, and there's no longer any MobileMe preferences screen to turn it off. Clicking on it just shows a message saying 'no devices syncing'. Does it serve any useful purpose in Mountain Lion, and if not, how can I get rid of it?

That works! Thanks. Does it serve any useful purpose in Mountain Lion that I'm missing, or is it just a stub that somehow didn't get removed?
    Does nothing at all now.

  • Pixelated Display after Mountain Lion upgrade.

I updated to Mountain Lion today. Since the update the display on my (old) VA912b monitor has been 'pixelated'. The image is 'simplistic' for lack of a better word and looks like ther are vertical lines running through the entire display. I've done lots of reading online, but havnt found my exact problem (or solution to the problem).
    Any ideas?

Sorry this is for another problem of MAMP not starting. I misunderstood your original query. Added another reply
Are your MAMP sites running on port 80? I had the same problem. Turns out it is due to default Apache running on port 80.

  • Mail icon in Mountain Lion

With ML, the swirling icon is gone from 'Get Mail' in Lion, and now there is a headphones-like icon on the Inbox bar in Mail. What is this icon's meaning?

In Mountain Lion mail, it is still possible to switch between a preview and an icon of an attachment.
How somebody else is seeing it when he/she is receiving it it totally up to their mail app. It has nothing to do with PC or Mac or whatever system they use.
So you have basically no real chance to control what the receipient will see when looking at your mail.

  • No Airplay icon: Macbook Pro 8,2 Apple TV2 4.3, Mountain Lion 10.8.2

    What am I doing wrong?
    I have the following setup,
    Macbook Pro 8,2
    Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    Apple TV2 4.3 (Airplay on)
    Airport Extreme 7.6
    Airport Express 7.6.2 (extended network)
which according to all the specs should work fine.  All the following work fine,
Macbook pro itunes to the apple tv
Macbook pro itunes to the airport extreme
iphone 4s to the apple tv
iphone 4s to the airport extreme
But the airplay icon in Mountain Lion is missing, in Settings -> Display it says 'Airplay Mirroring: No Devices Detected'
I even tried turning off IPv6 for ethernet, but still nothing.
What am I missing?  What am I doing wrong?

The icon you are after relates to airplay mirroring.
This is supported for Apple TV with software version 5 or later. 4.3 which you have supports airplay but not airplay mirroring.
update your Apple TV to software v.5

  • How can I get rid of Yahoo search on Mountain Lion  safari .

I have tried everything to get rid of Yahoo from my newly installed Mountain lion upgrade. I have a MBP mid 2011 17".  . I'm used to using Safari so I would ltke to keep using it. BUT, even though I have Google as my default or perferred search engine, Yahoo keeps coming up. I have already tried hiding tool bar & then individually putting up the print , home.etc. icons. But that doesn't work either. I have searched for an answer to no avail thus far. It's beginning to look like I either use Yahoo w/Safari or switch to FF or Chrome. Any answers I will be grateful for. Thanking you in advance. I could just scream at this point. LOL
And one other thing is bugging me to death. Is there any way to enlarge the toolbar & icons on Mountain Lion. They are very tiny...too tiny. I've tried everything I could think of.

Try deleting the Safari .plist file. Preferences can become corrupted.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go the move the com.apple.Safari.pist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari and check Safari > Preferences  > General. Make sure Google is selected.

  • Why isn't OS X Mountain Lion not downloading from Mac App Store?

    Hi all,
I have recently downloaded the OS upgrade to Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store for £13.99, and it is't downloading. Since purchasing I have received the bill from Apple outlining I have purchased the item. But nothing has happened as yet. I have looked under purchases in the Mac App Store and it just shows the progression bar...
    79.3 MB of 4.37 GB - Calculating...
I have restarted my IMac many times and still nothing!!!
What can I do?? I have the icon for Mountain Lion in the dock but the only options available I can see are... Pause, or Cancel Download.
    Please help!!!
I am running Mac OS X  version 10.6.8
    Thanks in advance

It looks stuck, and at this point, you probably ought to cancel the download and start it over again. (No worries about paying again... once you buy something in the App Store, you own it for as long as it stays in the store and can re-download it all you like.)
Also, before you consider installing the upgrade, note that there are some things you should do:
    1) Check all your software for compatibility with the new system.
    2) Repair the hard drive with Disk Utility.
    3) Make a full backup of your whole system using Time Machine.
    4) Ideally, make a second full backup of your whole system using something else, like Carbon Copy Cloner. (I consider two backups to be the minimum.)
    5) Wait until you have time to deal with any possible problems that crop up.
    6) Install the upgrade.
Some people recommend erasing your hard drive and installing the new system "cleanly." That certainly helps ensure that you don't have any problems with the new system, but is often unnecessary. I prefer to save clean installs for when they are actually necessary, but that is only an opinion. You can certainly choose to do a clean install if you prefer.

  • New dock for Mountain Lion

When I installed Mountain Lion there was another Safari symbol in my dock, it was much cooler than the old one but I must have double clicked it (I think) and now it's gone. Does anyone know how to get it back?

I'm not sure what you're referring to.  The Safari symbol (icon) in Mountain Lion is the same as it was in Lion, so I'm unsure what the "glitch" symbol you're referring to looked like.
The dock does have a new look in Mountain Lion if you have it at the bottom of the screen, yes.

  • Pixelated icon Mountain Lion. Update 10.8.3 has solved nothing. Help please Apple!

Like many others, I have tried for months to eliminate the pixelated icons that appear at random when using Mountain Lion. Problem is more acute when using external disks and partitions. Have read and tried every bit of information, I could find on the net. Complete failure.
Moreover Update 10.8.3 has solved nothing....
The problem has been in existence since Snow Leopard and has become worse and worse and is well documented. Type «pixelated icons, orr blurry icons, or fuzzy icons» in th Google search window, and you will have a measure of the extent of the problem..
Apple obviously is perfectly aware of this situation. Using Mountain Lion is a pain...
As a conclusion I beg Apple to do something, and put its best programmers at work on this problem!

    User of Macs since 1984...

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Mountain Lion doesn't display Finder preview icons for .ARW files? (RAW pictures taken with SONY cameras)

This is something that I find rather ridiculous, and have a hard time believing no-one at Apple has addressed yet.
Basically the problem is that neither Mountain Lion nor Lion show Finder thumbnail preview images for pictures that are taken with SONY digital cameras.
This is something that Snow Leopard, as well as multiple earlier iterations of OS X used to do without any problem. The professional photographer community who uses SONY professional DSLR cameras is up in arms about this. And we've all been crossing our fingers that perhaps the Mac OS X 10.7.1, 10.7.2, 10.7.3, 10.7.4, or possibly the 10.8 update would fix this issue for us.
Several of us have filed bug reports over the past year or two. See this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3213982?tstart=0
This is a flaw in Apple's operating system. Especially considering that there are supposedly 200+ "new features" which were just released in Mountain Lion.
Those of us who work with SONY cameras every day would probably have paid the $19.99 upgrade price for just one "feature". And not even a new one. An old one. The ability to see our pictures in the Finder. Pretty basic stuff.
Hopefully someone fixes this for us with the release of Mac OS X 10.8.1
    Please. And thank you.

I can see image icons for all my pre-MtLion images.  These are the folder images (Icons), and all the photo images (icons) on all my hard drives.  IE If I have a folder of 300 wedding pictures, they all show the picture image above the file name in the icon view.  So if I want to open a picture of the "Flower Girl" I can see the image (icon) of the Flower Girl.  Without the image showing all I see is the filename...  Smith-212.tif.  Now with Mt. Lion I CAN'T see any IMAGES (ICONS) on any of the 300 photos.  Just the file names in all the different views.... Icon View, List VIew, etc.  If I have a Folder with 23 more folders inside, they don't even show up either.  I saw a step by step process of selecting the file and right clicking on it and opening it in Preview, then doing a copy and then pasting it on the original image in tghe get info window.  WHAT A PURE PAIN TO HAVE TO DO THIS TO 170,375 IMAGES.
The other issue I have is that 93.5 % of the remaining icons that do exist on my system is that those 93.5 % are so pixelated they appear as a hugh checkerboard viewed through two inch thick glasses..... not for drinking, but the kinda glasses used by a blind man.  IE the remaining icons are so PIXELATED it is almost impossible to tell what they  are.
BEN WELLAND...... What did you do to get this point?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to whomever at Apple finally fixed this.
After updating to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, SONY .ARW files (and I'm assuming Pentax .PEF files too) now render proper thumbnail icons in the Finder in list view, icon view, coverflow view, and columns view.
Since this is now a recognized bug, I'm guessing that the free update to Lion (10.7.5) that Apple also just released yesterday (September 19th, 2012) will probably fix this issue too.
    Hooray!
I have OS 10.8.2  and nothing has changed as far as being able to see photos / folders as image icons...
    rendered  proper thumbnail icons.
I have thousands of photo files that show nothing other that the file names.
The only way I can even see the file is to open it in Photoshop, or open the folder in Bridge. Even then after I open it in PS CS6, and save it again. It still is a "Empty" file...... no render proper thumbnail.
    icons
    Any help will be appreciated.
