Pixelated images when scaled down issue.

I have scaled down some JPG's in flash and they look fine but
when I publish to a SWF they look pixelated. I've read other
threads and done what is suggested i.e. Smoothing on or off, JPG's
instead of PNG's and quality at 100% with no success. I know that
Flash isn't a resolution based application and bitmaps are but the
images look fine in the Flash IDE.
Can anybody help me further with this. Thanks in advance for
any help.
Simon.

Hi andy 3r x1...I'm not sure I understand what you mean,
sorry. I have JPG's inside flash and they look fine but when I
publish and view them through the player they don't. The JPG's are
scaled in the flash movie but are seen 1:1 later on in the movie.
The scaled versions are pixelated.
Anyhow, I've found what the problem is. I'm publishing for
Flash player 7. If I publish for 8 and above the JPG's look fine.
Haven't got a clue why this is other then the players are better?!?

  • Vectors fuzzy when scaled down?

    Hello.
    I'm hoping someone can confirm this for me.
    I made a logo in vector form. I have given it to my client who has then sent it off to the printer.
    The printer is telling my client that it becomes "fuzzy" when scaled down.
    The fonts have all been converted to outlines.
    I'm no expert in print design, but is this even possible? Shouldn't the printer be able to scale down a vector with no issues at all? Is there something I am missing here?
    Thanks!

    It depends on a few things.  Have you set the color as Rich Black?  Does it over-print?  Are there any strokes applied to the text?  What is the document's raster resolution set to?  Has the person viewing the file known to kick back a few the night before?  Kidding aside, outlined text will appear fuzzy reduced down in size.  This is a preview artifact and has nothing to do with how the file will appear in output...if it has been setup properly.  Everyone has to step back and remember they are looking at a monitor, not the actual hard copy proof.  A good print vendor will know the difference and not even bother you unless the fuzziness shows up on a hard copy, prepress proof.  That's the time to discuss the problem.

  • HELP!! Illustrator distorts my Logo when scaling down

    How could this happen? I tried to scale a logo down to fit a stamp and Illustrator destroys it by distorting the paths.
    This is the original logo
    And this is what Illustrator does with it when i scale it down. (Image is scaled to same size to better illustrate the distortion)

    in the drop down menu for the transform palette is an option for aligning new objects to pixel grid. might want to check that too for future reference. also, there is the same checkbox when you create a new document. just to be aware.

  • Pictures getting blurry when scaled down in Premiere

    I captured some movements on a website to create a howto.
    After capturing I edit the clips in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3
    In premiere the pictures get scaled down to a workable size, however after the scaling the pictures are very blurry, the texts get unreadable and the edges of picture also get messed up.
    Which options do I have to set so that Premiere uses the full quality of the pictures?

    Well, since these are pictures, try scaling them down in Photoshop before bringing the images into Premiere. You can use the Bicubic method in Photoshop – or you can try the Bicubic (sharper) method, which may produce better results but can also cause 'ringing' artifacts.
    If this is a large-ratio reduction (such as resizing a 3000x2000 image to 720x480 or something) you may find, as I have, that you can get better results with the following type of process:
    If the image is 8-bits per channel, convert it to 16-bits per channel
    apply a sharpening filter, such as Unsharp Mask with fairly strong settings (say, strength=200% ... radius=0.5 ... threshold=4)
    scale the image to the desired size using the normal Bicubic method
    convert the image to 8-bits per channel
    This process can yield a sharper image with less ringing than the Bicubic (sharper) algorithm. The exact amount of sharpening you should apply will depend on the how much smaller than the original you are scaling the image (a larger ratio requires more sharpening). It also will vary with the content of the image, noise, contrast, etc. -- and personal taste.
    Once you've found some settings you like, you can set up an action in Photoshop to automate this process a bit.

  • Image quality reduced when scaled down on black background

    I am trying to view two tracks at the same time so I have scaled them down. Once I rendered them, the quality was horrible and then I changed the background to checkerboard instead of black, which worked, but I would like a black background for viewing, so how do I fix the poor image quality problem?

    I'm guessing you're making this judgement in the Canvas. You really can't. Check it on an external CRT, and make sure your render settings are all set to their highest. Just because it plays back or evven has a proxy render doesn't mean you're seeing its highest quality.
    Are you saying that when you put them over a different background the quality improved? I don't know why that would be, bbut if it works then try putting a slug on V1 as a black background.
    Or by checkerboard you mean you set the Canvas to a different mode...?

  • Stop images from losing file size when scaled down?

    Ive read this tutorial;
    http://joedasilva.com/blog/?p=32
    and ive just found out that if you scale an image smaller,
    the file size is permanently decreased, and enlarging the image
    again will make it pixalated. If im working with images and I want
    a lot of freedom to play around with the scaling, do I need to
    convert them all to grafics?
    Is there a setting I can change so that the images are saved
    at the display resolution when I export them, but maintain there
    full file size when in the document? Is this how illustrator works?
    thanks

    There is no such a thing as a "grafic." In your Fireworks
    document, you can have bitmap objects and vector objects. Bitmap
    objects, such a photographs, are rectangular objects with detailed
    information, where the color and transparency of each pixel is
    specified. Vector objects are mathematical objects, where the shape
    is determined by nodes and the color is determined by the fill
    type. You cannot convert a bitmap object to a vector object
    (although you can sometimes create a vector illustration that
    resembles a photograph).
    If you are still experimenting with your design, what you can
    do is add a layer with your original-sized bitmap objects. Put this
    layer at the bottom of your stack and keep it hidden. Then, anytime
    you feel a need to refresh an object that you've resized too many
    times, copy that object from your originals layer. It may not be a
    perfect solution, but it should help you.
    I've never had a problem with multiply resizing photos,
    myself, because I design my layouts with vector shapes first. Once
    I have all my proportions set,
    then I add any photos I have. With this worflow, I know what
    size to make my photos. Of course, I might change my mind, later,
    but my process keeps me on track.

  • Imported images have jagged edges when scaled down

    Perhaps I'm missing something really obvious (like the quality thing in the After Effects timeline), but I imported a Photoshop image, a logo, scaled it down to 15%, and it has jagged edges. Ditto for a TIFF version of same. Starting resolution is plenty large.

    You can adjust the apparent size of the image in the "media" tab of the property inspector. Select the photo in the media bin (not the layer in the timeline), then the media tab in the insepctor.
    try reducing the size of the image to the size you are scaling it to (of course, you'll have to adjust the scale property of objects in the timeline which use that image). for example, if the image is 1000px wide, and you're scaling it 15%, then adjust the media size to 150px and restore the scale to 100%.
    YMMV but it's worked well for me. sometimes adding a slight gaussian blur helps (<.25). it would be more effective to scale in an image editing app (like photoshop) to the desired size, but this is more flexible.

  • Proportionaly scaling down background image when restoring down browser window

    Hi all, i need some help, i want to minimize(scale or restore down) window to not-fullscreen browser window (and ajusting size of window manually over arrows in the corners of the window) and retain background picture full size (i need to picture proportionally follows screen scaling).
    I`m new into flash stuff, so please tell me if it is the code or what, and if you know part of code that will do the job, write me down!
    Thanks!

    I take it you want a liquid effect.  I wrote a site that does that or rather the background of this site does that http://www.droolpigs.com/ .  It's fairly simple just tell the backrgound to change width and height on stage resize.
        public class NuPigs2 extends MovieClip
            var holder:btnHolder; // container for nav buttons
            var onStage:*;     // this can be anything
            var ratio:Number;
            var rRatio:Number;
            var newRatio:Number;
            var com:FLVPlayback;
            var bkg:*;
            public function NuPigs2(){
                com = new FLVPlayback();
                setCom("droolPigsWrestling.flv");                     // set the video for player com
                addChildAt(com, 0);
                stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
                stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;    // this is needed for resizing to work
                onStage = com;                                                   //  the video player is assigned to onStage
                ratio = onStage.height/onStage.width;
                rRatio = onStage.width/onStage.height;
                addHolder();
                fillBG();
                stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, fillBG);
    ////////////////////// FILL BG ////////////////////////
    // this code makes the video resize with the stage
            function fillBG(evt:Event = null):void {
                newRatio = this.stage.stageHeight/this.stage.stageWidth;
                holder.x = this.stage.stageWidth - (holder.width +25);    // position the buttons on the right
                holder.y = 50;
                if (newRatio > ratio){
                     onStage.height = this.stage.stageHeight;
                     onStage.width = (this.stage.stageHeight * rRatio);
                    else {
                      onStage.width = this.stage.stageWidth;
                      onStage.height = this.stage.stageWidth * ratio;

  • Pixelated images when connected 3G

    I've searched all over and seem to not be able to find a resolution for the issue I am having. It also seems I am the only person, I know with an iPhone, with this issue. Hopefully my issue can be resolved through the community.
    When I am connected 3G and view images via apps, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., they appear to be pixelated and not clear. However, when I am connected via wifi, images are clear as day, non-pixelated.

    Try viewing your images at a viewing % (percentage) of 100% (actual pixels), 50% or 25%.
    Other viewing %'s will make images look pixelated.

  • Any solution to pixelated images when zooming?

    Wondering if there is a solution to prevent pdf images on transparent background from pixelating when zoomed in.
    This is a screen capture. There are two knife images. The large white knife is a pdf on a transparent background saved at 108 ppi in photoshop, it is part of a object state/slide show (saved as vector obviously since type is sharp) that fades in. Doesn't seem to matter what size/dimensions I use, it still gets blurry when you pinch and zoom.
    See here:
    The smaller black knife image at top left is also a pdf on transparent background, saved at 108 ppi in photoshop. It is not an object state,etc.
    The knife images look fine at full screen on the iPad, but once you pinch and zoom, both images loose focus and become blurry.
    Any solution to this? The images need to be pdf (or png - which I understand will not scale at all), because they are on transparent backgrounds.
    Thanks!

  • Pixelated Image when Saving as .pdf

    I've been searching the forums looking for a solution to this problem, but I just can't seem to figure it out. Thank you for helping me out.
    I'm making an 8.5 x 11 inch document and I would like to save it as a .pdf. The text looks great and comes out incredibly clear. One of the images that I have placed within the document comes out looking terribly pixelated. I know I probably need to alter the dpi or such, but I need some instruction on how. I have no compression in place when saving as a .pdf and have picked the highest quality option.
    The document also displays the picture as pixelated when I save in .png form.
    The image that I am placing in the document is in .png form. It seems quite large and has to be sized down to fit appropriately in the document.
    How can I alter things so that the image also looks clear?
    Any advice that you have would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Nicole

    Hi Nicole,
    Continuing from Trevor a bit, if you can possibly get the original artword file, that would be best. Unfortunately my experience with Illustrator tracing is "it depends." Where it does the potentially lower quality is the tracing of logos, although the more detailed, the better the results might be. In things like arcs or leaves, AI is trying to follow the line, but if the line is anti-aliased, it doesn't really know where that line is and what it guesses at isn't always what we'd like.
    Albeit detailed, it sometimes is best to replicate it in AI (of course you'd charge them for this) and that will give you complete control on how it's going to look.
    [Note: as an Illustrator practice technique, I look for coloring book artwork and try to replicate it in AI. I take the image (scan it if necessary), and place it in a layer in AI and lock the layer. Then I trace over that image in AI trying to replicate the line-art as best I can. I've found it's a great way to develope techniques and solve problems. Even if you never use these images, it's a great practice mechanism to develop your abilities and force you to find solutions within AI that you might have not thought to look up.]
    However, as Trevor states, if all you have is the JPEG, saving it back to PS is too late. The damage is done. And Acrobat can only put out based on what it got in.
    Good luck.

  • Highly pixelated image when viewing at 100%

    Dear Forum:
    I'm using Aperture 3.0.1 on a MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3. Using Mac OS 10.6.2.
    I'm making a photobook, extra large size. I placed an image in a photo box that covers the entire page (in other words, the photo has no borders) When I look at it in 100% view. The image is startlingly pixellated as if it's a low res image (The image is not a super-cropped image of the original) Will the book print out that way or is it okay for the image to look low res when making the book?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Dear Thomas,
    I don't see the yellow triangle on the image which is good. But the image is nevertheless low res when viewed at 100%. If I move the image in one or two directions, the image clears up and becomes sharp as it should be. But, when I come back to image after working on another page, and do 100%, the image is once again low res. I'm wondering if this is just a preview issue or if it will actually affect the PDF file that will eventually by generated for printing.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Pixelated Images when Importing from SD Card

    Hi there,
    Im having a recurring issue when importing images from my SD Card.
    The issue is that when I try to view in the 'Loupe' view, the images don't load at full size, the '1:1' is absolutely tiny?
    Any ideas??
    Thank you.

    Yeah, the black bars at the top and bottom of the tiny preview indicate it is a camera thumbnail, not a large-sized preview embedded in the raw file.  Without seeing the raw file, itself, it’s hard to know if there is actually a reasonable-sized preview embedded in it or just the tiny thumbnail.  If you want someone else to take a look, upload a raw file to http://www.dropbox.com/ and post a public download link to it, here.
    And more importantly, as was just asked, does the image import ok.  If so then you’ll just have to do the importing, first, before you sort through what you want.

  • Pixelated images when in preview mode on iMovie, but when I pause it the images become clear. How do I fix this?

    I just bought the latest version of iMovie and I am on 10.9.4. I transferred my slideshow from the old iMovie to the new one and almost all the pictures become pixelated when in preview mode. Yet when I pause it, the picture becomes clear. What do I do? It's driving me insane!

    After more attemps at cropping Im noticing that the saved version is unzoomed, so if I move the zoom bar just a tad the image becomes instantly sharp. But sadly that doesnt help me because iphoto will only let me save it and post it online as the unsharp pixulated version. Can anyone please help me!
