Pixelated preview - Help!!!

I'm using color with a variety of codecs. With every one of them, the preview is pixelated. I'm using a second monitor (23" Apple HD Display) for my preview monitor). I don't notice the pixelation when I render out SD footage, BUT when I render out DVCPRO HD footage it is still there (even converted the footage to Apples Pro Res first to see if that helps-it didn't).
I would be happy if I could just see the image without pixelation in parked mode (while grading) and be able to render out HD footage without the pixelation.
I have changed the Proxy settings - that didn't help either.
Anyone?

Once you have your footage back into FCP Under your sequence settings make sure to choose upper field on the interlaced settings even if you are viewing progressive footage see if that helps, in my many hours experience using Color the preview is poor (slightly pixelated)as it doesn't handle footage properly (in my personal experience) possibly due to it been sourced from dvcpro hd given it only seems to display one field on a normal monitor regardless of settings in Color or whether or not it was progressive dvcpro hd footage to start with.

  • Illustrator CS4 - when I save for web my vectors are pixelated. Help!

I recently updated to CS4 (I know, I'm still behind the times) but ever since when I 'save for web' my vectors appear pixelated. It seems worse when I want a transparent background. My images are for web and this just won't do.
I've read a lot on this and can't seem to fix my problem, but here is what I have tried: Anti-Alias is checked, view > pixel preview, view > overprint preview, object > rasterize, and probably a few other things. If anyone can help me with this issue it would be GREATLY appreciated!! I've attached an image so you can see what I'm talking about. I created this schematic in Illustrator CS4 and saved for web with a transparent background and, as you can see, it appears pixelated everywhere.

I'm not sure what you're looking for but here is my save for web options. Let me know if you're looking for something else. And thank you for trying to help!!

  • Understanding pixel preview

    hello people.
im trying to understand the whole pixel preview thing in illustrator, as I do make websites and I usually use photoshop because i find the slicing faster and easier.
also things on the web are usually pixels so i feel photoshop is more accurate, and what I see is what ill get.
    so... here are my questions.
being that illustrator is vector -when i zoom in on a vector in illustrator its crisp and clean.
im guessing thats because each time I zoom in, illustrator is redrawing my vector at  a higher scale. as opposed to a raster image which when i zoom in, is NOT getting redrawn and looks pixelated because it IS made of pixels.
    is this right?
when i export something in illustrator to png or jpeg i have to make sure its the right exact size because it will be pixelated otherwise.
then there is anti-aliasing. if its not exactly aligned to the pixel grid it looks smudged.
so is pixel preview there to help see what it would look like when it is rastered?

Each time you zoom in in a vector art Illustrator is redrawing it (rasterizing it for on screen display) at the size of your monitor's pixels, meaning one pixel of the rasterized vector will fit in one of your monitor's pixels. In Photoshop this is possible only at 100% zoom. When you choose Pixel Preview, Illustrator behaves the same as Photoshop when rasterizing the vector objects for onscreen display.

  • Cell background colors are not showing in preview - help? - DW4

    Hi,
I created a horizontal table for my menu bar, and gave each cell a different color by creating a separate class for each with background image - image is a block of color created in Photoshop. In design mode they look they way I want, but in preview (Safari) the colors don't show up at all - the whole area is gray, and all I see is the text for each cell. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Alternatively, is there a better way I can set this up to have different colors for each button?
    Thank you!

Here is the HTML code, and the CSS code for the menu bar follows:

  • Strange lines in pixel-preview mode

    Hi! I have a problem.
When I'm drawing something with two windows (one is usual other in pixel preview) I have some strange white lines in pixel preview window. How can I solve it?
Hope picture will clarify my question.
Link to full size picture: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/33643074/white-lines.png

There are no white lines in output icon. These lines are not objects, they are just bugs of Illustrator. When I zoom out and immediately zoom in window with pixel preview - white lines dissapear. But when I change something in usual window (moving any object or rotate) these lines appear again (only in pixel-preview window)!

  • Pixel Preview doesn't match exported PNG

I use Illustrator CS4 for icon design, so Pixel Preview is a pretty important feature for me. Unfortunately, I just found out (the hard way) that Pixel Preview isn't accurate - it doesn't show you exactly what you'll get when you export a PNG via Save for Web and Devices.
Here's an example from my current project that shows the problem (enlarged 4x):
A screen snap from AI with Pixel Preview off:
A screen snap from AI with Pixel Preview on:
    The exported PNG file:
Look at the center of the second image: See that dark gray line bleeding from the light gray circle into the black area? Now look at the third image: The line isn't there.
(Please don't fixate on this one example. Since I noticed the problem, I've found inconsistencies all over the place. This one was just the easiest to see.)
If I can't count on the absolute, pixel-for-pixel accuracy of Pixel Preview, then this feature becomes worse than useless in my work, because it actually misleads me into making small tweaks that make the final output look worse.
If anyone knows of a workaround (or a setting that turns on "accurate mode"), I'd love to hear about it.

I can't state this definitively, but the inconsistency seems to happen with gradient fills. (The light gray semicircle in the example in my original post has a gradient fill with a pretty abrupt transition from light to dark.) Maybe the issue is specific to gradients?

  • Bad pixel preview with bitmaps

    Hi,
Is there a way to overcome the bad pixel preview me and my colleagues have in Illustrator CS5 when using bitmaps?
In CS4 we never had such a problem, now there is for bitmaps almost no difference between the overprint preview and the pixel preview.
In other words - noisy (like in the Photoshop noise filter)!
That is a real problem because we use bitmaps a lot for fabric prints and T-shirts.
    Please advice

For the same reason as the guys on this topic are complaining....
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2786211#2786211
There is allmost no difference now  between the overprint preview and the pixel preview when we talk about bitmaps...
Please dont answer the same things as in the linked topic. Let me know if there will be a fix or not. That's all I want to know.
In meanwhile I'll continue working on cs4 - because a that nice preview is crucial for our work!
    Kind regards,
    Klaas

  • Pixelated previews LR4

Any way to correct pixelated previews in LR4 imports of raw images from Canon 5DM2 and 3 (or better yet prevent them)  Had no similar problem with LR3.  Seems others have same difficulty.  Thanks

    jonbenner48 wrote:
    zoom    ratio 1:8.
No. Your zoom ratio is 4:1 according to the slider in the lower right corner - which means that each image pixel forms a 4x4 pixel block on screen. In that case, the image should look pixelated.
And please note that this is in the import dialogue where you only see the embedded thumbnail. So it is the low resolution thumbnail you see at 4x pixel magnification.

  • Pixellated type - help!

I'm new to imovie and I've searched for answers to this topic to no avail - so I'm guessing it's something very obvious that I've missed. The problem is that my type looks sharp in Preview but when I add it to my movie it looks really pixellated and the colour is off. How can I make the type render properly?? Help!

Hi alanaalana - welcome to the forum!
Usually, it will look better once it is screened (DVD or whatever). Also, it often improves on the preview screen once you play the clip.
Keep in mind that it is best to use the more standard fonts and in the largest size possible, preferably sans serif, and to avoid red colour for example, as it does not render well.

  • Mavericks 10.9.1. Freezes or trackpad becomes slow and unresponsive when viewing downloaded PDF files in Preview.Help!

The earlier post was my first attempt at posting and had some typos. Repeated with typos corrected.
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late 2013 with preinstalled Mavericks.I now have the 10.9.1 update. Almost from the time of purchase in Nov '13, I have been experiencing freezes and slow & unresponsive trackpad. I have more or less narrowed this symptom as happening when viewing downloaded PDF files. The only option is to force eject, if available or shut down. I spoke to Support as I thought it was a RAM issue and they told me that in Mavericks RAM showing almost full was normal as it uses RAM differently. They took me through some resets and cleaning up which has helped a little but freezing stll happens. This never happened with my Macbook AIr running Lion. Any suggestions?

    Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late '13-Mavericks 10.9.1
    Macbook Air 13" Mid '11-Lion
Macbook Aluminium 13" Late '08-Snow Leopard

So a PDF file that you can view in Preview on your MBA causes your new MBP to lock up and/or slow down. Is this right? Also you say more or less narrowed down to PDFs with Preview but does the computer exhibit this behavior with other programs and if so under what conditions? And how much free hard drive space do you have?
Viewing memory use in Mavericks is different than with previous versions of the OS. Today it looks like we need to pay attention to what Apple calls Memory Pressure which is gauged by the bar graph in Activity Monitor and to the Virtual Memory being used. When the memory pressure graph bar gets too high it turns red and that's bad news. Looking at how much memory is being used doesn't help - I have a 16GB computer and with almost nothing running it still shows something like 15.79GB used but the memory pressure graph is just a think green line. So unless you see the memory pressure bar turning red lets not worry about memory usage at the moment.
If among the things AppleCare had you do was reinstall Mavericks then I recommend a trip to the Apple store - and take a problem PDF file with you to demonstrate.

  • Exporting through Adobe Media Encoder as MPEG2-DVD but quality is pixelated. Help!

So, I am exporting my project through media encoder - MPEG2-DVD, Quality 5, NTSC, 29.97 drop frame, Progressive, Standard 4:3, VBR 2 Pass, 7.4697, 7.4697, 8.0382, Frames 3 & 15. I have done this process many, many times. Today, I am getting this pixelated junk when I pull the exported file into Encore. • DVD from HD720 is extremely pixelated- Please Help

    Hi
I've shot a project with HD (HM171 on a P2 Card) and edited as DVCPRO HD 720
I've made the film as a multi image (3 layers/images on one screen) and tried exporting to DVD Studio Pro on a number of formats but all results are very heavily pixelated. (3 layers each at 27% size)
There is a major amount of jagged edges and blockiness to the images and I don't know how to fix this.
I've exported a normal single channel/single image piece at normal size and it's looked ok.
The settings I've used are to let DVD Studio Pro encode in SD settings by creating a quicktime export using the current FCP sequence settings.
I've also encoded through compressor using best quality DVD settings mpeg2 2-pass and still it looks blocky
Please can anyone help me! I'm so stuck with this

How's the quality of the FCP exported self-contained movie?
In Compressor, make a duplicate of the Best Quality 90 minute preset, turn ON Frame Controls and set the Resize to Better or Best, select Progressive and Better.
What frame rate do you edit at? If your trying to compress 60p MOV down to 30 DVD, Compressor may struggle to maintain quality. Better to start with 30p or better yet 24p in FCP

  • After Effects preview help

I'm struggling to understand how my AE play and preview performance is so bad. I've seen the generic posts on AE performance but I'm wondering if I'm doing something pathologically wrong here given the severity of the problem.
I'm new to AE on the Mac, I used it some on the PC. I have a new iMac 5k 4GHz w/ 32GB RAM. I'm running After Effects CC 2014. I've loaded in a 21 second 1920x1080 @60Hz clip. I've not touched anything beyond loading in the clip, not created any content at all, yet it plays back with RAM preview at 10Hz.
I set the image preview size to custom 25x25 pixels, so the image I'm looking at is something you might see on an old Commodore 64:
And it still only goes 30Hz.
Is there some default setting that could be sinking my performance? Or is 1920x1080@60 just not going to play back?

It should playback correctly but to say what could be issue with your playback please send us some more specs:
    - how many discs you have on your comp?
    - is any of your disc SSD or just Hdd
    - if you have only HDDs tell us if you have any other software that is reading/writing on that disc when you try to play that clip on AE
In my opinion in your case the HDD will be that bottle neck that slow down everything.

  • After Effects Ram Preview Help

Hello. I have recently got into after effects, and haven't had this problem until i deleted and then re downloaded AE (I was having a problem with creative cloud) So, I usually I want to render a 10 second clip, which isn't much, but when I try and render it with RAM Preview, it only renders about one second. I looked at other forum posts, and they suggested to upgrade your ram, but I have 12GB's of RAM dedicated to after effects, and my computer ONLY has 12, so I'm really stuck here. if someone could help me, that would be great as I really can't do anything in AE without a full RAM preview. Thank you.

12 GB RAM isn't much for After Effects.  You also need to allow for some RAM usage by the system for it to work properly.
