Pixelated Vector Lines

Hi,
CS6 runs fine on my computer, but I just got Flash Pro CC because I need it for school, and everything appears so blurry and pixelated in it that I can't use it at all.
I'm on WIndows 8.1, by the way.

  • How do I 1)use airbrush type tool in illustrator CS4 or 2) use PS4 airbrush tool on vector line art?

That's basically my question in a nutty nut.  I am drawing illustrations in Illustrator,
can't find an airbrush tool there, so I export to Photoshop to use that airbrush and the
lines pixelate.  I want the clean, vector lines of Illustrator with the yummy fuzzy airbrush tool.  In short, can I go back and forth from Illustrator to Photoshop without the line art ping ponging between pixel and vector?

See this PDF for one approach. The subject was really more about exploring ways to exploit Isolation Mode, but it does so in the context of a poor-man's "airbrush" effect.
I want the clean, vector lines of Illustrator with the yummy fuzzy airbrush tool.
In reality, then, you're not wanting vector artwork to look like vector artwork. Here's the thing:
Vector artwork, is by its fundamental nature "hard edged." That's one of its advantages and one of its disadvantages. Soft-edged fuzzy effect (and its sister, texture) is one of the mainstays of raster imaging. It's one of the main reasons why there are two primary kinds of computer graphics.
Historically, soft edges and graduations are primarily done with Blends and Graduated Fills. A Blend is really just a semi-automated stack of multiple paths with incrementally changing color. Grad fills are mathematically-defined variations of a path's fill color across the path. Generally speaking, grad fills are limited to a small set of geometric shapes. For most of Illustrator's history that was a very limited set: linear or radial. So when you needed to render tonal graduations in more elaborate shapes, you employed Blends.
More recently, programs have acquired a newer construct, which is an elaboration of grad fills: Mesh Grads. Mesh Grads are also mathematically-derived and remain as such up to print time--that is, they are vector. They offer more control over the shape of the color transitions. But that control is quite tedious, and is not at all like painting with an airbrush.
That's about the extent of it when it comes to maintaining "clean, vector edges". With skill and discernment, the results can look just as realistic as airbrush work, and it can be entirely vector. But the interface for doing it is not an emulation of painitng with an airbrush.
Far more common than a purely vector tool in a vector drawing program that tries to act like an airbrush is the workaround of applying filters or effects to vector paths. Doing that is not purely vector: It's actually rasterization that is re-applied whenever you edit the paths. If you set such an effect as the current default, then you can draw paths with the Brush tool, the Pencil Tool, or really, any of the vector path tools, and that's about as close to emulating an airbrush in a vector program as you'll get. The PDF mentioned above employs that kind of approach. But you should understand, you're really creating raster images when you do that. It's just that, rather than the raster images being "nailed down", they are effectively deleted and re-created on-the-fly if you edit the paths to which the effect is applied.
Illustrator isn't great at this. Other programs--Xara Xtreme in particular--do it much faster and responsively. But again, even though it retains the lossless editability advantage of vector art, the soft-edged effects are not really vector art. The are on-the-fly rasterizations of vector art.
Look up Blends, Grads, and Mesh Grad in Illustrator's Help files.

  • One pixel vertical line on new iMac 24" display - defective?

I have a one pixel vertical line that is fairly constant on my new (one week old) 24" iMac -- it sits there between the Edit and View mens mocking me, and runs the length (well, height) of the screen.
I've tried changing resolutions and resetting the SMC and neither seemed to do anything. My guess is it's defective, so I'm probably looking at a trip to our nearby Apple Store... the only thing is, I don't want to be without my computer for an extended period of time, since I use it for work and everything.
Is this the sort of thing that the Apple Store could order the new part and do the swap in house? If they replace the whole unit, could I put the existing HD in it? (of course the defect shows up right after I migrate and do all my upgrades, installs and patches)

I recently just had the LCD on my 24" imac replaced due to a stuck pixel. Without even bringing my imac into the apple store i told one of the genius bar associates about my problem and they ordered the LCD without even seeing my computer. They then called me when it came in and i took it down there for it to be replaced. I took it on a monday morning and i went and picked it up on tuesday. It is an in house repair so as long as they are not super busy you should not have to be without it for to long. I would try what i did, go in their without your imac first and tell them your issue and see if they will order the part. That way your not leaving your imac there while they order the part in.

  • One-pixel yellow line on display

    Hi all
While I was working a few minutes ago - this was after my weekly reboot, but the problem wasn't visible then - I noticed a thin (looks like one pixel) yellow line running vertically from top to bottom of the right side of the display. It's the only display anomaly I'm seeing at the moment.
I've seen some scary posts about what this might mean - though none of the posts I've seen have referenced a yellow line. What should I do now? Are there any actions I can take to try to make this go away? I'd be grateful for any help or advice.
    Peace

By all means, blog. But I'm wondering if something along the lines of a petition / open letter format might be more effective in affecting the corporate decision-making process. Those of us affected should discuss and, if possible, get help on who and how to get this addressed. That's why I've asked for advice on who the relevant person is who I should contact. If you've ever worked in a bureaucracy you know that sometimes talking to the right person can save a lot of time and trouble.
BTW, if the Apple moderators are following this thread, I'd be pleased to know what your thoughts are on this issue. This problem seems fairly common, but only among users of the 1.67 iteration of the 17" PB (as far as I know). We are users who invested a lot of money in the best (& most expensive) mobile hardware that Apple had to offer at the time of purchase. We're probably faithful customers who, in time, will spend a lot more money on Apple hardware in the future. Why squander goodwill over a matter like this?
It just seems to make sense that Apple would institute a limited recall to fix this known and obvious fault. It's a good idea for us and for them.
    Peace

  • Image to vector lines

how can i convert an image(Jpeg or pdf) into vector lines in illustrator and export as dxf file?

    Barbara,
If you wish to make it clean and simple, recreating with the Pen Tool and probably suitable tools in the Rectangle Tool Group (and maybe others) on top of the locked image is the first option to consider.

  • Use 40 black 1 pixel x 400 pixel vertical lines, and create an experimental composition using varying vertical spacing?

Ive been pulling my hair out on how to do this all day and im getting no where i dont even know where to begin! Please help if anyone knows how to do this.

    enforcer4u,
she said posting here if help was needed was a good idea...
This is Classroom in a forum.
I believe the first line should have read Use 40 black 1 pixel x 400 pixel vertical lines, and create an experimental composition using varying vertical > horizontal spacing.
One way (she may be following this thread, you know) would be to:
    1) create a horizontal/vertical (composition Three/Four) line with the Pen Tool with a length corresponding to the whole composition and two or more Anchor Points, ShiftClickDragging at each with different lengths of the Handles;
    2) Create a vertical/horizontal line by ClickDragging with the Line Tool (or just Click with the Line Tool and set the Length and direction, then move a copy (ShiftAlt/OptionDrag the original, start dragging a tiny bit before you press the keys);
    3) Object>Blend>Blend Options, set Spacing to Specified Steps, 38 steps;
    4) Select the lines from 2) and Object>Blend>Make;
    5) Select both the Blend from 4) and the line from 1) and Object>Blend>Replace Spine.
Other ways include creating the first line and then ShiftAlt/OptionDragging to create the other lines up/down/left/right depending on composition, or creating or all the lines (maybe using the blend) and then ShiftClickDragging individual lines.

  • Can a behavior affect the individual points of a vector line?

    Hi All,
I've drawn a vector line in Motion using the pen tool, and would love to apply a random motion or wiggle so that the points of the line themselves would shake, as opposed to the entire line shaking as one solid object. Is this possible? I've been unable to fine a way to achieve this. Thanks in advance.

Apologies Cory, I can see how to make the Wriggle Behaviour apply to individual points of Shapes, but not Paint Strokes. If you take a look at Wiggle Star in the content folder, check out the Behaviour. There's an Apply to Points setting. IF your Paint Stroke could be a Shape instead, you can choose Outline and an offset to make it look like a line instead of a closed shape. If your Paint Stroke is not too jagged or complicated, that is. Otherwise, I'd go for the Record method. Hopefully someone who knows better will chime in with a better solution for you.

  • Vector lines and control points stay onscreen

    Photoshop CS6 64bit WIndows 7 64 Bit.
Using pen tool to create a mask.
After de-selection of path (using pointer tool, paintbrush or anything else) the vector line including the control points does not disappear as normal.
Deleting the layer removes it, but changing the visibility of the layer does not have any effect - it simply stays onscreen.

    Hi @segoopa ,
Thank you for your inquiry, I will do my best to assist you!
I understand that after installing the Pes 2014 game you now see pixels and lines in your display.
The game installation may have changed the resolution of the display for your game but did not revert it back when you closed it out.  Here is a link to Resolving Problems with Notebook Displays (Windows 7 and Windows 8) to assist you in overcoming this difficulty.

  • Adobe Illustrator users on rMBP: Have you noticed horrid pixelation in vectors lines and fonts?

    Hey all...
I understand the scaling issues on apps that aren't yet developed for rMBP - But really... this is practically unusable.
    FYI I'm using CS6 Illustrator.
Does anyone have any work arounds or do we just have to hope adobe redesign for retina displays?

If you're in your 14-day 'no questions asked' return period, you could always exchange your Retina display for a non-Retina. While I understand that Adobe is 'working on' a version of Photoshop that would be compatible with native Retina display, I've heard no rumors that they are currently working to upgrade any of the CS6 apps at this time. You only need look at the Illustrator/InDesign/Photoshop forums to see how unhappy Adobe customers are with the Retina display.
I have no idea when any other third-party apps are going to be upgraded for Retina display models. If you look at how small the market is for Retina display it simply doesn't make economical sense to pour a lot of engineering time into such projects. While I'm 100% certain that Adobe will come out with Photoshop maximized for use on Retinas, there's no hint that any of the other apps are in the same boat.
One of my friends here bought the MBPR and he calls it "a piece of cr*p". He's selling his.
Try to get Apple to exchange it if you're still under the 14-day grace period. I think that you'd be much happier - and certainly more productive - using a non-Retina model. When third-party software vendors come out with apps that can handle Retina, that will be the time to buy. Apple software - most which support Retina - doesn't do everything...

  • How to export my vector lines at different sizes

Hi. First post here. I have been using photoshop and illustrator at my university. I need some help exporting my graphics at known pixel dimensions. Illustrator seems to give the cleanest results, and the stroke antialiasing is much better than in photoshop, so I'm keen to do my final export from illustrator.
I have attached four images to show what I'm doing.
1 - depth map, this is rendered from a 3D terrain package. White = far, black = near
    2. Find edges in depth map - the values in this image correspond to the depth discontinuities in number 1. High values = large depth edges
    3. Import into illustrator - do a live trace, stroke, set threshold. Get some nice vectors
    4. Convert to live paint, set stroke width. Antialiasing is great
    OK. My questions are:
    a) How do I export a jpg at a fixed size, in this case 640 by 360? I want my original depth maps to be much higher resolution so I get quality vectors, but I want to export the final image at 640 x 360. I haven't figured out how to resize the original to those dimensions
    b) Are there different antialiasing styles to mess around with? When I zoomed in on a microsoft word screenshot I noticed the antialiasing was in colour around black text. I wonder if that could be useful to me
    c) If you have any better techniques for vectorising and then rasterising for display these mountain lines, please let me know.
    Thank you!!!

    jt,
To get a 640 x 320 px JPEG, set the reolution (as Export option) to 640/W, where W is the Width in inches; or similarly for height.
I definitely do not know of this option though it would be good to have such a setting.
But what you have do if you are not using Save for Device and Web is to actually make a copy of the art turn off the visibility of the original art
then resize the copy to your desired dimension either width or height, in this case probably width.
Then make a new art board, holding the shift key down allows you to make one within the bounds of another artboard.
Then double click the artboard tool to enter the dimension of you desired jpeg
then reposition the art in the artboard you just made and then export to jpeg using the Use Artboard option and selecting that artboard.
So if you set the artboard to 640x360 pixels that is what you will get.
Save for Device and Web is easier there you can enter dimensions

  • Stuck Pixels - In Lines

I have had my iPod touch for a little over a year now, and I have had a few stuck pixels along the way, which normally go away. The other day I flicked on my touch, and there were 3 lines about 1/4" long (length wise) going horizontally across the screen. I'm headed to the Apple Store saturday, but does anyone know what they will say/do?

but does anyone know what they will say/do?
If you bought AppleCare for your touch you shouldn't have any problems. Since your touch is over a year old, if you DON'T have AppleCare, be VERY nice.
BTW, make sure to make an appointment before going to the Apple Store (you can do this on-line).

  • Single pixel white line across macbook pro retina screen

I have a Mid-2012 model of the Macbook Pro 15inch with Retina screen which is just out of 1 year warentee.
There has suddenly appeared a very thin white (pixelated) line across my screen - about 1/3 way down from the top.
Its constantly there, but more visible on a grey background.
I've contacted Mac about it and they say since its out of warentee they can't help!
