Pixelated video playbacks
Pls hlp
Based on your description, it sounds like a driver bug. I tried it on several configs (Firefox, Mac, Safari, Chrome on MacOS, Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer on Win7 x64). My guess is that there's an encoding error in that stream, and the hardware decoding is less tolerant that our software video stack, which is much more complex and resilient in the face of things like network and encoding errors. The hardware is very fast, but often times less forgiving.
I would continue to keep an eye out for updated drivers from Intel. The stuff available for Win7 has had a much, much longer time to mature. The quality of Win8 drivers will also improve over time, but it's a less mature ecosystem. Writing graphics drivers is an extremely difficult undertaking, and it takes a lot of time for the long-tail of odd little edge-cases to get worked out.

No video playback in premiere elements 12
No playback after a few mins of editing. Tried most of the potion in the adobe troubleshooting section (http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-digital-video-playback-premiere-2 .html) but never got anywhere. Most options listed are for Windows. I have an almost new Mac with all the system requirement to run Elements 12 . HELP, PLEASE
bjgarciac
I am strictly an Elements Windows user, but I do try to find common ground between Premiere Elements 12 Windows and Mac as a first pass at troubleshooting issues like the one your present.
1. What are the properties and duration of your source media?
Video compression
Audio compression
Frame Size
File Extension
Frame Rate
Interlaced or Progressive
Pixel Aspect Ratio
Brand/Model/Settings for Camera which recorded the video would help.
2. What did you or the program set as the project preset based on a match of project preset with properties of the source media?
3. What have you done in the way of edits after which you have problems? What is the duration of the TImeline at that point? Is this a multi track project?
Please explain "playback stops"
a. The TImeline Indicator will not move from the start of the Timeline when you press Play in the Edit area monitor?
b. Playback stops after playing back about few seconds of the Timeline content
c. Other
Do you have the Work Area Bar gray tabs set to span the whole content of the Timeline?
When you are playing back your Timeline in the Edit area monitor, does your Timeline content have an orange, green, or no colored line
over its duration?
4. Are you running a dual or single computer monitor setup? If you right click the Edit area monitor and select Playback Quality is there any
difference in the problem whether you set for Highest instead of Automatic?
5. For this type of video and this type of project, would you class this problem as
"it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before".
Thank you.

Video playback in source monitor low res, fuzzy
Hello-
I encoded a slide show ( in PP CS4) using high res pics, the .avi output ( from Media Encoder CS4) looks good. When I use this as a clip in a new PP project, ( after choosing the editing mode with the correct PAR), the video playback in the source monitor has a distinct loss of resolution. I have verified that the video is pretty sharp in an external player, so I'm mystified why it looks fuzzy in PP. I have two different CSes, one is 4 and one is 5, if that could make a difference( production premium & elearning suite ). To date I have been forced to let another department encode final version with an Avid product. Very humiliating.I believe I accepted default settings in Media Encoder, Format: Microsoft AVI, Preset: NTSC DV, "Export Video "checked, Video codec DV NTSC, Quality 100
Type: AVI movie
Image Size: 720X480
Pixel Depth: 32
Frame Rate: 29.97 (24p)

How to control the video playback function on ipad?
Hi there,
I am creating a project containing video content that will be delivered on an ipad. I would like my video to behave like many other videos do on ipad publications:
1. I want the poster frame of the video to appear small on the page before it is clicked
2. When the poster frame for the video is clicked, I would like the video to expand to full screen using iOS's built in video capabilities
3. The user can then press "Done" to exit full screen mode back to the page that displays the small poster frame of the video
I have placed my video (an mp4 file) inside a small frame and set the Media panel options to:
-Play on page load (unchecked)
-Loop (unchecked)
-Poster (from image)
-Controller (SkinOverPlaySeekFullScreen)
-Show controller on Rollover (Checked)
However, when I publish to ipad my video behaves as follows:
1. The poster frame appears small before it is clicked
2. When the video is clicked it opens to the full video size (not full screen), however it operlaps the text layout rather than creating a black background to mask the content while the video plays
3. The video skin does not allow the user to navigate out of full screen mode back to the original layout of the page
Also, no matter what video skin I choose it doesn't seem to change the skin. The skin is always the same, including a mute and play/pause button and no other user controls.
How do I create a skin that allows me to leverage the iOS video playback capabilities?I can almost see a big grin appearing in Bob's avatar...
Hopefully his reply has given you a clue already?
If not, some explanation:
Many settings in the standard "Media" panel (for both video and audio) don't apply for publications that need to go the Folio-way. This panel is mainly concerned with lovely Flash stuff, but apart from the Poster frame and the Markers, it is useless for Folio's.
A quick guide: create a video with the necessary codec (H.264 for video, MP# or AAC for audio) at the required pixel size (exact width/height). Simply Place the file in InDesign, but don't scale it (or recreate and place a properly sized new video afterwards). Choose what to do with the Poster frame (and maybe some Markers), but all other settings are done in the Overlay Creator.
Check Bob Bringhurst's Tutorials and his DPS Tips app for more info. But I guess you get the idea now. -
Strange thin line of 'noise' across all video playback
Hey, another problem I'm currently having... for no reason my mac has started displaying a flashing line of what I can only describe as 'noise', it's very thin only a few pixels high but as wide as the video playback. This happens in FCP on my viewer window and also in quicktime, not all the time but most of the time.. it also displays on other video playback software.
Any ideas? I can take a screen shot if that helps...
Thanks! There are many people using iMacs including myself who've developed random lines of random pixels, usually confined to the current window.
The machines have also become prone to hangs/freezes when these lines appear.
It is suspected that the problem is related to overheating in some way, as it can be improved by ramping up fans speeds using smcFanControl.
Most attribute it to overheating/faulty garphics cards but logic boards might also be implicated. It's been seen on the iMacs with ATI and nVidia cards, and on Leopard/Tiger.
It seemed to appear for me after a software update (early 2008 security update I think), and while that may be coincidence, I do wonder if a bug has been introduced somewhere.

Poor quality HD video playback when in full screen?
I've recently purchased a late 2013 iMac 21.5" mid-range model and finding the video playback quality poor when opening it up to full screen. Does anyone else have this issue?? I was expecting similar quality to my HD tv when using the iPlayer app, but i@m even finding it poor when watching the HBO trailer on the Apple website for Game of Thrones. I have also been into my local Stormfront and found the same issue on both their 21.5 and 27" models on the shop floor.
Am I being too picky? The quality when it is in the small window is amazing. The quality when it is in the small window is amazing.
One thing that pops into my mind is: what is the resolution/size/quality of the video you are watching? If it was created in a smaller size, then forcing it into showing on a bigger screen will always impact the quality significantly. You cannot enlarge a picture or video without significant quality loss (fuzzy/pixelation). -
Nv driver + video playback?
I'm using the nv driver and video playback isn't perfect. Videos (in Mplayer and VLC for instance) stay on top of all other windows and when you move the window around the video flickers and becomes black (just while you're moving the window).
It's a fresh install.
Is it normal for the nv driver?Usually your problem happens when using compositing and a video ouput with 3d acceleration like Xv. X11 is not hardware accelerated, (all rendering calculations are done by your CPU) so iit is not affected.
The compositing program and the video want to redraw the same pixel, if the driver is too old it will lead to flickering, static video overlay even though the window has moved.
Current nvidia proprietary works okay with hardware accelaration, I don't know for the open one though
To see if it was the problem you can launch glxgears, and move around the window, if it's awkward, the problem lies in the open drivers
This problem will also happen with every applications that use hardware acceleration like games,in this case, disable compositing while you are using them

Am I the only person who has problem with video playback ?
I'm having problems with the latest nvidia driver and it seems that nobody wrote about it on the forums.. After installing the latest nvidia driver (169.07-1), the video playback with xv selected will be played in purple and blue colours.. Generally red will not be shown.. So human faces are colored with a combination of purple and blue.. Everything is normal on the other hand.. Sound works perfectly, the movie can be watched smoothly even on fullscreen.. With x11, all players can show the colors but...
1) The movie quality in Totem is very bad then...like the image is gathered together by 3x3 pixels..
2) mplayer shows everything fine but it can't get fullscreen..
I created a nautilus script for a workaround that let's me watch the movies with fullscreen using the -fs -zoom options..
But this problem is really annoying..1.0rc2, with some things disabled that are enabled in the Arch package (lirc, samba, and that live-media thing).
$ pacman -Qs mplayer

I should probably also mention that I'm rolling my own kernel, and as such I'm not using the package from testing. Building it manually with the PKGBUILD from ABS though so it shouldn't be any difference though.

No video playback in Premiere Pro CS5.5
Video playback is completely unresponsive. the program monitor's show through to whatever is behind the program (for instance - the desktop or whatever else is open). I have a GTX560 Ti graphics card and i've already enabled it as a supported CUDA for the 'Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration'. I'm new to using forums for help with these matters. please help.

Compressor 4.1.1
I have an MPEG-2 file with AC3 5.1 audio which plays in QuickTime X as expected.
I have a second MacBook Pro with Compressor 4.1.1, where the audio is fine - both as current video playback of the source, and post-encode using Apple Devices HD (best quality) setting.
However in the Mac Mini Compressor there is no audio (neither in current video playback of the source, nor after encode using Apple Devices HD (best quality) setting).
Troubleshooting
- main difference between machines is the Mac Mini has Elgato software (EyeTV and Game Capture HD)
- I've checked the QuickTime components are same on both machines, except for EyeTV audio component on Mac Mini
- there are no plug-in audio components
- I've repaired permissions using Disk Utility
- I moved Compressor to trash, deleted compressor plist files, and reinstalledMediaInfo trace:

Controlling Speed of audio and video playback ?
Hi!
I would like to know if there is (or will be) a way with
upcoming Flash CS4 or even with Adobe Flash Player 10 capabilities
(or even with Adobe Pixel Bender) to control the speed of an audio
or video playback.
For example being able to play some sound slower or faster
and even adjusting audio pitch (and other audio filtering).
It's been a while that I've been looking for this (back to
Flash Player 6 when Flash was part of Macromedia) and with all
progress achieved since then I hope there is some accelerate and
decelerate feature now.
Please let me know about it.More information needed for someone to help... click these links and provide the requested information

If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any effects... your project is wrong for your video... read above about codecs
Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

Jerky 6500 Slide Video Playback
The spec says it should playback video in QVGA(320x240) encoded as H263 or Mpeg 4 at 30fps. I just cant get it to play anything back without it being extrememly jerky and even sometimes losing sync with the sound.
Stupidly I would have expected the software provided with the phone (Ulead Video Toolbox Basic) which asked for my phone version during installation to at least make videos which can be played on the phone. I've had the video stop on several of them during playback, and they're always jerky.
I tried encoding things in SUPER, that also provides jerky playback. Does the phone need to be returned, or am I doing something wrong? Any ideas gratefully received.
Thanks :-)I'm still on the quest to resolve my video playback issues. I recorded a video from the phones camera in it's maximum setting, 640x480 at 15fps, so i was kinda making the assumption that if I encode a video at QVGA 320x240, then because the video is a lot smaller it'll playback at 30fps.
I did an analysis of the video from the camera, and the interesting thing is that it has created a video using sound settings which I dont seem to be able to produce in any software, specifically it is using the AMR_NB with 2 channels, which doesnt seem to be an option with any encoder (including Super which is extremely flexible usually, in fact they say in their FAQs that it's not possible for this type of codec but nokia did it), does anyone know what can produce video conversion with these settings?

6300 video playback dissapointment
I was given a new 6300 for my birthday and have just got round to swapping over from my old phone (SONY k750i), But im really dissapointed with the quality of the video playback. all the videos i had on my 750i played flawlessley, but in the much newer 6300 they appear all block and rough. The videos are in 3Gpp format. does the 6300 require a better format.
Hi, I too own both a 6300 and a K750i. The older SE phone has only a 220x176 pixel screen with 262,144 colour, the 6300 has a 240x320 screen with up to 16.7 million colours.
The increased pixellation may simply be caused by the increased resolution, on the 6300 you are more aware of the small inadequacies in the video because the larger, better quality screen is more sensitive to them. Even when not using landscape 'full screen' mode, the 6300 stretches the image over its full 240 horizontal pixels even through the 3GP format is usually 176 pixels wide.
Mobile video formats are not brilliant quality to begin with because they are heavily compressed formats to keep files sizes down. I have no major issues with playing files created by the cameras of the K750i and K800i in my Nokia 6300, my only issue is that of the three I find that the K800i is happy with more MP4 formats than the K750i and the 6300... -
I am useing FCE 2. After rendering the video playback is jurky about 10 frames at a time. Audio is fine. What created the problem?
I had been working on the project for a few days. It is mostly pix and a couple videos. It has several scrolling text segments. Everything was going fine, then after a rendering a large scrolling text it started. It appears that it skips 12 frames each time as I'm playing back.

Video Playback After 3.1.2 Update
I have recently updated to 3.1.2 and now find that some videos, that played perfectly well before the update, are now pixelated and of a considerably lesser standard.
Is anyone else aware of this issue and is there any way around it?
Thanks in advance.Your suggestion to reset and restore is much appreciated.
However, I wouldn't have labelled the video playback issue a bug before trying something so basic.
To review, just like to person who began this thread, when playing back videos on my 2G iPod touch using OS 3.1.2, any attempt to summon the video controls, after about the first 10 seconds of playback, does not work. The iPod offers no response to any gestures on the screen.
That the iPod's behavior (a) was not observed before the current OS, (b) has been experienced by other users with the same hardware and firmware combination, and (c) continues no matter how many times I reset and restore the device, sounds very much like a bug to me.
My apologies if I offended anyone with the question I posed at the end of my previous post, but it does seem that, in their rush to get stuff out to us, high-visibility glitches like this are becoming more frequent. Perhaps, with our ridiculously high expectations of Apple, we are in part to blame.
