Pixelmator crashes on launch under mavericks + every app when copy/pasting

Everytime i try and copy and paste using the keyboard shortcut the application crashes (notes, reminders, mail, etc).
Everytime I launch Pixelmator application a font test error message appears and repeats every few seconds making the app usuable
Trying to resize an image for example is impossible, the app crashes as soon as you attempt to type in a box.
I've tried reinstalling the mavericks download from the app store as well as reinstalling mavericks from recovery (losing lots of settings, preferences and application keys that i can no longer find).
The whole mavericks install feels like it's corrupt and broken.
Has anyone experienced similiar or know of any fixes?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
 ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

  • App Store crashing on launch after Mavericks update

Hi all. I upgraded to Mavericks about a week ago and haven't really been using my macbook pro since (its a late 2008 or 9 model, I don't remember). Anyways I have to use it now while my PC is being fixed and the app store crashes upon launching with what appears to be a similar crash log each time. I will attach the log in here somewhere. If there is a way to re-install the app store manually I might be able to fix it, otherwise I'm hoping you apple guys and gals can help me out. The app store is crucial as I'm sure you're all aware. Thanks in advanced.
Crash Log (taken a week back when it didn't work then either):

  • Photoshop CC Crashes on launch with Mavericks

I have two Macs, a late 2012 MacBook Pro and a 2009 iMac, both installed with Creative Cloud and running Mavericks. The MBP is doing great. No issues whatsoever, and it is my main machine these days.
However, Photoshop CC is crashing on launch on the iMac every time. I can't use it at all there. Here is the top of the crash log, leaving off everything from "Binary Images:" on...

  • Compressor 3 crashes on launch under Snow Leopard 10.6

    Hi all,
I am hoping that someone can help me. Everything was going along fine until yesterday when I installed 10.6 Snow Leopard on my 2 x 3GHz Dual-Core Mac Pro.
When I try to launch Compressor 3 (not the new 3.5, which I ordered last night out of fear that I'll never fix this problem), it crashes with this message: Compressor quit unexpectedly.
I tried to use Compressor Repair, which did not resolve the problem. Then I used FCS Remover to deinstall everything. After a complete reinstall, including software updates, Compressor still will not launch. Also, from within Final Cut, the option to export using Compressor is greyed out.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Or can you help me decipher the crash report? Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure if this was your pathway to your new configuration, but performing a clean install can really reduce problems when going from one major release to another:

    Any ideas?

  • Desperate for help! indd crashing when copying/pasting from illustrator

i have cs2; updated programs for indesign and illustrator; on my new imac
i have a bunch of small graphics -- logos, and line drawings -- that i need to place into indd.
they have been scanned and traced in illustrator.
i have copied and then pasted them into indd. HOWEVER INDD crashes immediately over and over. i've tried copying and pasting them from ai into indd into blank documents -- once again crash.
I NEED TO GET THIS PROJECT DONE! yikes.
what can i do to prevent crashes???
AND -- big question -- if i save them in ai. and place them into indd -- i have white boxes around each graphic which I DO NOT WANT. that's why i was copying and pasting to begin with.  Are there ways to save graphics and place them into indd without these white boxes around them. I'm open to other formats -- and not embedding -- but need to get rid of the box.
at one point i got a message saying memory was full. now it all just crashes.
please help anyone and everyone. i'll be indebted to you!

ok; i am able to get the objects to show up without the white box when doing this!!!!!
    THANK you for that suggestion!!!!!!
but what about copying and pasting?? isn't that supposed to work between indesign/illustrator????

Hi there, I'm a new Captivate user, I recently reinstalled the patch (8.01 245 from October) and now whenever I launch Captivate and choose new responsive project it loads up, gets to "adding slides"...and crashes.  Every time.  I can load other projects (i.e. start a project from PP) however later on in the process it crashes randomly as well, just disappears, no warning, nothing repeatable (one time I was editing a slide, another just flipping through some slides).  I had been using the program on another partitition for the past month with no problem, but after upgrading a larger partition to Yosemite and reinstalling Captivate onto that partition this started happening.
    Any advice?  Thank you!
    On a Macbook Pro (2010) 2.8 GHZ 8 GB RAM 90GB avail on the hard drive...Yosemite 10.10

    Hey,
Just to add my experience to this thread (if it helps).
Mine isn't crashing as much as it sounds like it is on Nepotist's machine, but it does crash nonetheless. I am also working on a responsive project.
Basically the program will just close. No warnings, no crash report - nothing. It doesn't crash when OPENING a project, it just crashes while working on one.
My specs are the following: MacBook Pro (Mid-2012), 2.3 GHz Core i7, 8 GB DDR3 Memory, NVIDIA GeForce 650 M 512 MB, OS 10.10.2

  • Photoshop CS4 crash on launch in Mavericks

Just re-installed CS4 suite on a new iMac with OSX10.9 and it immediately quits with message 'Not enough privilages to run'. Anyone any ideas. Adobe say they have tested CS4 with Mavericks and its ok. The rest of the apps in the suite (eg Illustrator ) run ok.

where does it say adobe tested cs4 with mavericks?

  • Illustrator CC crashes on launch after Maverick update (10.10.1).

I've just updated to Maverick 10.10.1 and now I cannot open Illustrator CC.  It looks like it is loading, but after about 30 seconds it crashes and I am offered up a screen to send Adobe an error report.
I've tried uninstalling, quitting CC, re-installing Illustrator and restarting CC.  No luck.  There are no 3rd party plug-ins in the Illustrator folder.  I've restarted my computer.  Not too sure where to go from here.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    jr,
You could try to reinstall using the full three step way:
Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Indesign CS5 crashing on launch if another CS5 app is open

This actually seems to be affecting the entire CS5 suite installed on a Windows XP computer.
If one CS5 app is open eg. Indesign, when trying to open another eg. Illustrator, the app crashes with a memory write error.
It happens with any combination of CS5 app: Indesign + Photoshop, Photoshop + Dreamweaver etc
The Stack Back Trace for Indesign and Illustrator all reference similar items: dvaui__drawbot__OSSurfaceInterface__GetOutputGraphics and gdiplus. But Photoshop just references gdiplus amongst others. I've pasted them below.

    CS5 has been re-installed.
I'm asuming it's a graphics issue, maybe the card itself, or the driver - although it's the latest driver that works on other systems. Maybe a font issue? Although the exact same fonts were used on another computer with no issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

It does look graphics-related. I don't have any grand ideas.
CS5 and XP are long in the tooth, too, which makes this sort of thing hard to debug.
Are you running the latest CS5 update, 7.0.4.553?
Have you tried backing out to the not-latest graphics card driver?
What card and driver and what version? Did you get it from the vendor or from Microsoft?
Have you tried a new user account on your system?

  • My MacBook crashed while updating the maverick system. When starting up now it has a screen with a folder with a ? And won't load up

Has anyone been able to startup properly after this? I have tried pressing "alt" when loading MacBook and clicked on the drive, it then comes up with a grey screen.

iOS does not run on MacBooks.  But now that you can't startup, you likely can't figure what is running.  This tip explains how to recover data if it is not backed up:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
Hopefully your directory is the only thing damaged, or the PRAM battery/capacitor is young enough that resetting will fix it.

  • MacBook under mavericks doesn't want to start up!!

Hello! My 6 year old mac is running under mavericks. However when I started it this morning doesn't open and when I try to restore, the disk is locked ... Can someone help me out because all of my data is inside and I didn't back them up.

    Hello Shanniebravo,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:

    Perform a Safe Boot
Simply performing a Safe Boot may resolve this issue.
Shut down your Mac. If necessary, hold your Mac's power button for several seconds to force it to power down.
Start your Mac, then immediately hold the Shift key
    Have a nice day,
