PIXMA MG5420 Sftw Install Prob - Solved

Hello, Yesterday I bought a new PIXMA MG5420 printer/scanner/copier/DVD-print All-In-One.  Trying to set it up today to use with my 2009 MacBook Pro 15", running OS X 10.9.1 at the moment.  Everything seemed OK until I tried to use the Canon-furnished setup CD-ROM which would quit with an 'internal error' message after maybe 12-24 M of 436 M downloaded.  After about 5 tries, gave that up and, from the Canon USA site, downloaded everything listed (Drivers, software and more) that was OS X 10.9 compatible.  Was able to install only 6 of the 8.  I'm assuming the Canon setup DVD, U1.1 QH7-6333-01 is just too old, but that I haven't loaded enough software yet by going direct to Canon On-Line.  Any help and guidance you can provide will be much appreciated!  rackboy3
Careful inventory of dmgs. revealed items missing - downloading & installation fixed the problem.

  • ITunes 10 on Windows install prob solved

After a very frustrating experience trying to uninstall/reinstall iTunes 10 on a Vista machine using Norton, my difficulties were actually resolved by bypassing a Netgear wireless router.
I was repeatedly getting "invalid signature" upon downloading the iTunesSetup.exe regardless of firewalls/Norton being enabled/disabled.
I simply connected to my cable modem directly to the machine and re-established a connection.
Ran the exe as administrator and everything installed fine.
I hope this helps anyone experiencing the same frustration, and provides a possible solution.

    Glad you found that!
Yes, that solution (to bypass wireless router and connect directly to a cable modem) has been posted many times over the past year.
Some sort of setting in the router is letting the file download enough to be considered "complete", but obviously something is not downloading correctly, or the error message wouldn't occur.
Nobody has ever posted back if updating Netgear drivers or fiddling with MTU settings fixes this.

  • Best Storage Practice for Canon PIXMA MG5420 Printer?

    Hello,
My Canon PIXMA MG5420 Printer will be inactive for several weeks. What is the recommended best practice for preventing the ink cartridges and printhead from drying out and clogging due to inactivity?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Hello BSquared18,
The printer can be stored with the ink tanks and print head installed, make sure the printer is powered off properly so that the print head is capped. If you have print quality issue once the printer is out of storage, follow the steps listed HERE to perform a print head cleaning.

  • Pixma MG5420 Printer Head Installation-Virtually No Instructions Provided

My first Pixma MG5420 got the 5011 error you they shipped me out a refurbrished model but this time they expect me to install the printer head myself. If Canon expects the customer to do this they should at least provide detailed instructions on how to do so.All they provided were 3 tiny gray pictures that show you absolutely anything. Can anyone provide assistance in installing this?
They also claimed they would send me a different model but they sent me the exact same model. At this point I think I'd rather just get my money back. Is that possible?

  • I have Canon Pixma mg5420 with usb to Yosemite 10.10.2, no CD drive on iMac, don't know which driver/software needed.  Thank you.

I have Canon Pixma MG5420 with USB to Yosemite 10.10.2

The Mac printer drivers are not included on the included CD. Just Windows.
The Mac printer driver for this model is available from Apple. So all you need to do is connect the MG to your network or directly to your Mac and then open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add the printer. When you select the MG5420 you will get a prompt stating that the driver is available from Apple and would you like to download and install. Agree to this and the driver will be installed automatically for you.
Also, this model supports printing via iOS devices so you also have the option of adding this printer using Apple's AirPrint driver, which is a basic driver for printing.

  • HELP!!!--- Canon Pixma MG5420 Mac OS X 10.5.8 PowerPC Universal Binary Print Driver...... ---

    Greetings Everyone!
I am a bit miffed at the moment.
I purchased a Canon Pixma MG5420 Print-Copy-Scan machine with the intention of using it with my Power Mac G5, PowerPC, Mac OS X 10.5.8.
But alas. Apparently it is not to be. The box in which the printer came cleary displays the Mac Logo and the Universal Logo, the Universal Logo looking like this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_binary
The Mac OS X system requirements also notate the OS X to be a minimum of 10.5.8!
The driver CD only contains drivers for Mac OS X Intel.
So Someone....ANYONE!....please tell me why Canon has stooped to this low level of "False Advertising"???
Let's FLAG this issue and find out WHY!
    NEED HELP!
    ....and could use working drivers!

IT"S OFFICIAL!---> Canon has stopped porting any of their drivers to the Universal Binary format for MAC OS X which is a combo installer for PowerPC and Intel machines.
The MG5420 MFP that I have was released in December 2012 and they *said* that I was the first person to "complain" of this issue!....REALLY!?!?....wow...so there is no one else out there using the PowerPC platform??? I find the G5 (model M9592LL/A) to be quite adequate and useable for what I do!  I guess the engineers couldn't be bothered to "port" it to the PowerPC platform!  Listen Canon, if you don't think the PowerPC is still useable, go visit http://www.macofalltrades.com/ and watch the "trend" of what sells and what doesn't.....or maybe you should call another authority of Apple products http://www.macsales.com/ and ask what volume of PowerPC compatible parts they sell?!
And Canon, I know you offered to buy back this "mistake", but for the $99 I bought it at, (extra set of ink not included) I may just hold on to it and do the "workaround" of scanning to and printing from a Windows XP PC shared folder...No, Canon, I'm not completely stupid!....I set-up MFP's for my job, so I know a little bit about networking!  ...enough to be dangerous, at least!  ;-)   Any way, I just got this G5 a year or so ago and it is new to me...I probably wait a little longer and then get an Intel Mac, and THEN it will work natively with this INTEL CANON!....LOL!
    What do you think?!.....Thoughts?.....Ideas?
Oh, and Canon.....get your "engineering" team and your marketing "box makers/printers" in Thailand to get their "info" to correspond and be accurate....that way there will be no false advertising and misrepresentation of Apple's "Intellectual Property" and "breach of contract!.....You darn well know they have an "Image" to uphold!
    https://developer.apple.com/softwarelicensing/agreements/maclogo.html
    CHEERS!
PS--you better watch your back Canon on this little faux pas!....Epson might use this to their advertising advantage!....they still support Universal Binary!

when you install the disc, do it with the machine powered off. Place the disc in the the slot, push it in while holding the power switch tp poer it up, while holding the "C" key down till the gear starts spinning. After the gear starts spinning you can release the C key and wait. This takes much longer than normal longer, then create a new account. Be ready to wait.
    USE YOUR ORIGINAL INSTALL DISC!

  • How do I change which PC the PIXMA MG5420 scanner saves to?

I have a PIXMA MG5420. It is currently connected wirelessly to 2 laptops. I can scan from both computers but when I try to scan from the printer it saves to only one PC and I can't seem to find a way to change it.

  • New Canon Pixma MG2220 printer - install problems on Windows XP

I bought a new Pixma MG2220 printer and received it 2 days ago. I followed the instructions and installed it from the provided CD on my 10 year old Compaq S4020WM desktop computer upgraded with 1GB RAM and 1TB hard drive running Windows XP SP3.
The CD installation took a very long time to complete (maybe an hour or so) and things did not work right. In particular the My Image Garden software was very slow and sluggish to respond. So I downloaded and installed the latest drivers and software from the Canon website on top of the existing installation, which did not help. The My Image Garden software began crashing completely with an error message about a bad .dll file. After talking to Canon tech support on the telephone, the support tech admitted that this software CD was probably not compatible with my old XP computer. The My Image Garden software uses like 500MB RAM which is too much resources for my machine. So the rep had me uninstall My Image Garden.
At that point I decided to uninstall everything and start over from scratch because something was obviously not right. For example, the Canon MP drivers were using 755 MB RAM, which seemed much too large. Obviously things had not installed properly from the setup CD, in general. The date on the setup CD was 2011, so apparently it was 2 years old, and long out of date!?
So I uninstalled everything except the Canon registration and onscreen user manual. I also kept Windows Adobe RGB 1998 because I didn't see any way to uninstall it. I also uninstalled .NET 4 which the setup CD had said was necessary, as well as Microsoft XPS EP which My Image Garden had also told me was needed. Then I cleaned up my computer as well as possible with help of Revouninstaller and Ccleaner, which was necessary because things were very messy with many uninstalled remnants and incorrect registry entries. I feel lucky to have survived those tasks without having to reinstall my op system. It wasn't easy.
Then I installed the following 2 modules (only) downloaded from the Canon website:
    MG2200 series MP Drivers Ver. 1.01 (Windows 8/8...         01/31/13     14.07 MB
    File Name: mp68-win-mg2200-1_01-ejs.exe
This file is a driver for Canon IJ multifunction printers. You can install the following items of the software: MP Drivers: The driver for Canon IJ multifunction printer. IJ Scan Utility: The software that allows you to easily scan photos, documents, etc.
    *My Printer Ver. 3.1.0 (Windows 8/8 x64/7/7 x64/...         01/07/13     5.12 MB
    File Name: mypr-win-3_1_0-ea11_2.exe
This file allows you to easily change the settings such as the paper source settings and provides you with information on how to solve problems such as ink smudging.
I believe that's everything required to access all of the print, copy, and scan operations of this MG2220 printer. Based on my current understanding, I would classify everything else as optional. I use free Irfanview for editing and manipulation of images, which seems a satisfactory substitute for the other software.
I did not reinstall .NET 4 or Microsoft XPS EP, because apparently they're only required if you install the My Image Garden and/or Quick Menu modules. I also did not reinstall the Easy-WebPrint EX module which apparently only applies to printing with the Internet Explorer browser, while I primarily use Firefox, Chrome, or Opera browsers. And of course I did not reinstall My Image Garden nor the Quick Menu, which were so problematical originally.
On the bright side, the Canon MP drivers appeared to install correctly this time, using only 35 MB RAM (vs 755 MB previously). Also the Canon IJ Scan utility was reinstalled automatically as a part of that driver installation process. Those items have their own shortcuts. I found it useful to make one additional shortcut via Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes > "Canon MG2220 series printer", to allow easy access to all of the internal printer settings and variables. Like I said, I believe this is all that's required, in addition to some image manipulation software such as Irfanview. I deal mostly with documents and never print photos nor use cameras. Those who have large photo collections and/or cameras may need something like My Image Garden or Easy-PhotoPrint EX.
I previously used Lexmark printers for the prior 10+ years, where everything is controlled by software from the computer. I never had to use the buttons on the printer. That's obviously different with this Canon printer, which will take some getting used to.
I'm disappointed that there's apparently no way to enlarge or reduce the % copy size with this model. Is there? I also don't find any setting for lighter/darker when making copies. Is there? There are apparently no other enhancements or filters available when copying. Are there? Similarly, scanning seems remarkably unversatile with this model and I can't find any way to set a scan for ligher/darker or apply various enhancements/filters. Are there?
The printing seems OK, but I must still decide whether the very limited copy and scan options will be sufficient to my needs. I'm not sure yet. I might take it back for a refund and get something better, if I knew what was better. That's another research project. Suggestions?
    Thanks for any feedback.

Thanks for your info but the MG5420 is more than twice the cost at my local Walmart and Staples stores.
I thought I was being smart to buy the MG2220 as a later model(?), but it looks like the prior model MG2120 has more copier and scanner features according to the online specs at the Canon website (see copies below).
For example the MG2120 allows 25%-400% reduction/enlargement when copying, while the MG2220 does not. Can you verify this?
Also does the MG2120 allow for setting copying to lighter/darker? (I don't understand that complicated technical lingo in the specs.)
    Thanks.

  • BIOS won't boot freshly installed Arch [solved]

    Hello
Last night I did a complete wiping of my hard drive on  my old HP620 laptop in order to start my ideal Arch setup from the scratch.
I decided to give GPT a try, since I've been sick of the brain damaged MBR all those years. I did the install as usual, using cgdisk
to partition the drive within the freshly created GUID partition table. I made up 5 partitions, with the leading 1MiB BIOS boot partition,
which I created inside the first 40-2047 sector boundaries and set it to type ef02.
Everything has been alligned properly and passed without any errors. I partitioned the drive as follows:
    quetzalcoatl% sudo gdisk -l /dev/sda
    GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.10
    Partition table scan:
    MBR: protective
    BSD: not present
    APM: not present
    GPT: present
Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.
    Disk /dev/sda: 625142448 sectors, 298.1 GiB
    Logical sector size: 512 bytes
    Disk identifier (GUID): 1DC6DA85-2730-4101-ADA1-69EA884CC1B7
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 625142414
Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries
Total free space is 362996373 sectors (173.1 GiB)
Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name
    1 40 2047 1004.0 KiB EF02
    2 2048 52430847 25.0 GiB 8300
    3 52430848 85985279 16.0 GiB 8300
    4 85985280 94373887 4.0 GiB 8200
    5 94373888 262146047 80.0 GiB 8302
    sda1 is BIOT boot partition, sda2 is /, sda3 is reiserfs /var, sda4 for swap and sda5 is /home.
I formated every partition prior to mounting and installing the base system, except for sda1 which
I left intact (no formatting, just the cgdisk part of creating and chosing type).
At the end, I did the grub installation and configuration:
    pacman -S grub-bios
    grub-install --target=i386-pc --recheck /dev/sda
    pacman -S os-prober
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
after which I unmounted and rebooted, but the BIOS refused to boot into the system. It came up with the "Non
system disk or disk error". The only way of booting into the system remains to use the Arch installation CD,
and chose "Boot from hard drive" option.
I tried adding the boot flag to the BIOS boot partition using "parted /dev/sda set1 bios_grub on", and even faking
and adding bootable flag to BIOS boot partition using the MBR's fdisk since gdisk hasn't got the option to.
    Nothing helped.
Pacman says GRUB version is grub 1:2.02.beta2-4. Should I try going with syslinux or my BIOS (which I hadn't been updating at all)
is perhaps too old or buggy to cope with the GPT? I don't want to convert to MBR, if technically would be possible to boot using GPT.
    What should I do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Luth

    Hi Luther,
As the thread hasn't been marked as solved I hope this will help:
    1. The standard partition table type used by BIOS systems is MBR/MSDOS. Any PC released prior to Windows 8 should be a BIOS system. GPT is a newer partition table type used as standard with UEFI systems (i.e. post Windows 8). To make life simple, it is recommended to stick to the standard partition type appropriate for your system.
    2. The performance gain you would get using Reiserfs - I suspect - would be negligable. Ext2/3/4 would be a better choice, particularly as they are easy to use and are very popular (i.e. better chance of getting advice and support if you need it).
