Pixma MG7120 owners, is this sound normal?

I have a brand new Pixma MG7120 and I'm concerned it may be faulty, I did call Canon support and they claimed to test and unconvincingly said their printer made some noise too - although I will say it's hard to describe a noise over the phone.
Issue:
After powering on (or off) when it spins the rollers backwards slow and fast I hear a clicking/tapping sound, but only when the front door is closed, so it would seem to be something to do with the door latching mechanism.
Is this normal, it prints fine, I'm just concerned of part failure out of warranty if this isn't normal.
Thanks in advance.

I'm surpised I didn't get more replies, but I feel happier at least someone else hears exacty the same thing... I wasn't sure the person at Canon support 100% understood what I was describing so I posted here to be sure. The noise does appear to come from the printer door hinge area, so must be something to do with the release mecanism - maybe it rachects when the rollers spin backwards as when forwards it would normally open the door for printing... Still a strange design choice.
My printer does print 100% fine.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi i received the nano 7th gen for Christmas and I only seem to get 5 hours of battery life. I use the Bluetooth and Nike app so I expect more drain on the battery. But I got more time out of running with my iPhone. Does this sound normal? I thought I should get close to 30 hrs of just play time alone.
ALso, my wife got me the Belkin armband to run with the nano but I sweat through the band resulting in the back of the iPod to get wet. Surely this is not good. Anyone have a recommendation for an armband that keeps moisture away from the pod?

iPod Nano are small and they don't use Wi-Fi access so you get less power time on a Nano. As for iPhone, since you got apps, Wi-Fi + 3G access, and everything else, they give you more time so you can keep using. Nanos are ment to listen to music, listen to radio, view your photos, watch videos (without Wi-Fi) and since you got BlueTooth on the nano, it counts as wireless access so it drains your battery faster.

• Is this sound normal?

I just purchased my first mac, a refurbished Powerbook G4. When I'm typing or there are normal household sounds around, I don't notice this noise. But if it is very quiet and I'm just reading, every few seconds I hear a "chick" sound. Is this normal and if so what is it?

It seems to me to be the sound of the harddrive cursor moving.
there are a few mobile parts in the PB; the harddrive, the CD/DVD drive and the fans. fans are located each side on the top of the powerbook (near the flatscreen) but the will mostly work in continue. so the ticking noise you ear should be the harddrive. nothing to worried about.

• I'm having issues with my battery - does this sound normal?

I've had my 13in MBP barely 8 months and its been going downhill for the last month or 2 now.
When i first got it, the battery was great- the battery estimate consistently said 9 hours plus after a full charge and it would easily do this- i got a whole day of web browsing at uni and and hour or 2 of Illustrator and still had some battery left when i got home.
For the last 2 months however, the battery has been pants. The highest estimate value i get when i turn on after a full charge is around 3-4 hours and its not lasting well at all, I can browse the internet for an hour or 2 and the battery drops rapidly - i loose between 30-50% in this short space of time. I would expect this kind of drop if i am using a high power program such as the adobe suite but for just browsing the internet (not even streaming videos just normal web) this seems a lot.
It has had some abuse (99 cycles already) but it still seems to have just gone quickly.
i downloaded the coconut battery app and it says my battery capacity has dropped to 90%, is this normal for an 8 month old machine? i expected to have to replace the battery eventually but if its deteriorating this quickly its going to get expensive :|

After 99 cycles, you can expect a certain loss of charge with a lithium battery. But before you become too concerned, I'd like to give some advice that might make things easier.
I haven't used your MBP, but I can almost guarantee that your battery is suffering from lithium battery fatique. It happens when your battery is hot all the time. Even doing mundane activities like web browsing, heat reduces the performance of lithium batteries.
Your battery health is a bit lower than some, given the vintage of your machine, but it's well within an acceptable range - especially since it's getting a lot of use. But I'll suggest a few hints that might cut down on the wear and tear on your battery.
- Keep your machine cool! Make this a priority. I've seen some MBP users with their machines on their laps - which doubles the temperature. Take breaks in your routine to keep your machine cool. You might want to download a free application like SMC Fan Control. Use a cooling pad. Reduce the brightness of your machine.
- Think about using your power cable more. You can cut down on battery use simply by using the power cable judiciously. You won't have to worry about the amount of cycles if it's getting powered through the power cable.
I hope you'll post here with your results or questions!

• IPhone 5 / 5S Owners - Is this normal?

Hello,
I have got my new iPhone 5S on friday and it's awesome. But I think i have got a defective device and need some advice from other iPhone 5 / 5S users if this is normal or not.
First: The Power-Button is pretty loose and if shaken it sounds like a baby rattle . Its definitely not the camera lens which I know from my iPhone 4S. You can even hear it when the phone vibrates.
Second: On tables or flat surfaces the phone spins like ****. You can even play spin the bottle with it. I mean I can live with both issues but my problem is that I will probably see shortly a pointed scuff on the backside.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1ETG61WSqA
What should I do?

You said....."Vibrate yes... but nothing should rattle"
They have a tiny space to vibrate,..... otherwise it cannot vibrate the casing correctly.
Correction:
Your disagreement is noted, however you are wrong none the less.
heres a pic of the part, it is DESIGNED to sit loosely in the iphone, some note a slightly louder rattle than others, but it IS NORMAL
please dont make baseless claims with less than all the evidence.
Peace.

• Canon PIXMA MG7120 My Image Garden feature doesn't print after downloading Mavericks

I have a Canon PIXMA MG7120 printer. I printed cards on photo paper just fine prior to downloading Mavericks. I go to the option to make and print a card. Once that is selected, I choose one photo to load into the card. I drag the photo to the actual card template. When I chose to add a second photo the whole program closes. Can any one help? this is what I am left with:

• Canon Pixma MG7120 and OS 10.9.1

I am in search of a new printer that is compatible with OS X Mavericks. Been looking at the Canon Pixma MG7120 but hard to find on amazon or canon website if this printer is fully compatible 10.9.1. Anyone know from firsthand experience or otherwise? Thanks.

It's not shown on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669, but Canon shows the MG7100 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.84.2.0 supports OS X 10.7/10.8/10.9.

• ISE 1.3 MyDevices Portal issue: You are not owner of this device

Hello there,
I'm facing an issue with MyDevices portal.
The BYOD On-Boarding registration works pretty good, and the users get access to the network as they have to do.
However, when the user accesses the MyDevices portal, some registered devices (which already have access to the network) is showed as in "Pending" state. But it I dont think it could not be an issue because the users can connect any time and get access to the network normally.
The problem is: when the user tries to edit or change the state of the device (mark as Lost, Stolen or Delete), they get the error message "You are not owner of this device; it belongs to someone els. Contact the help desk if you need assistance".
P.S.: the users are allways facing this error message, despite the device is in pending or registered state.
Does someone has faced a problem like this, or have an idea to help me solve it?
Thanks in advance.
Error message attached.

robertbrink1,
I've tried to reproduce the problem in my lab environment, however every thing have worked perfectely. So I'm guessing if this issue is not regarding the ISE implemented in a Distributed Deployment. Because the real implementation I'm working is a Distribuited Deployment and the LAB I tested is a Standalone.
So, for the next steps I'll replicate the tests to a Distributede deployment.
Thanks in advance,
Paulo

• Hi, one day my music on itunes sounds great...the next the only songs that sound normal are the ones that were uploaded from a cd...the others all sound brassy...why? anyhelp out there would be great. thanks.

One day music on itunes sounds great, the next the only songs that sound normal are the ones loaded from a cd, the others sound brassy. Nothing was changed just normal apple updates.

one last thing: I'm also getting this problem here too:

• This sound is killing me!

this is my first mbp...c2d, just bought last friday...
i've used two other mbps before (a few months ago) and they never had this sound...it's like a jet plane
is this the 'whine'? b/c sounds more like the fans are on overdrive...and it only seems to happen when i'm doing 'intensive' stuff...but i don't really consider it intensive..i'm just importing from a 200GB external into itunes and iphoto....
please tell me this is normal...
i bought the c2d thinking that all the problems would be solved.........i'm not exactly happy about this fan .....it's like the mbp is geting ready to take off on a runway or something....

You can download a program to tell you your temp and fan speed. At then you will have an idea what is going on.
This guy created a program (no opinion on safety) that tells you temp and fan speed. It even allows you to change the fan speed.

• This is normal, right?!

My question is this: whenever I turn on the computer or wake it from sleep, the disc drive (at least I'm pretty darn sure it's the disc drive) makes a bit of noise (same rhythm/sound every time). I just want to check to make sure this is normal. It's also a somewhat noisy drive when it comes to loading discs, burning, erasing, etc. Normal, yes? I hope so!
Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

Very normal. In fact, there's a link on Apple's site about it...

• Does this sound like a logic board problem? Blue screen

I have a G4 1.33GHz iBook 14". Recently it has started having problems with freezing and booting. It will boot normally, but a few seconds or minutes into use, if freezes, and only a force shutdown with the power button will work. Then, when it restarts, it may run fine, or may freeze up. Sometimes when it boots, the apple logo shows up, then the spinning wheel, then a light blue screen. And then, nothing.
I have tried all the usual stuff, including starting with the 10.4 DVD and running disk utility. Also Onyx and version 3.03 of Disk Warrior. It wouldn't boot from the Disk Warrior CD usually, and the one time it did, if froze up.
SO, I ended up booting it in Firewire Target Disk mode, and reformatting (zero'd out) using my MacBook. Then, reinstalled the 10.4 and upgraded to 10.4.7 using Software Update. It worked fine for about two hours, and then started freezing and blue screening again.
Does this sound like a logic board thing? It just occurred to me that I haven't tried all this stuff with my additional 1 Gb stick of RAM out. It hasn't caused any problems before, but I suppose it might affect this, no?
Sorry for the long post, but I want to try to diagnose and fix BEFORE it goes off to Apple to be returned with a "we can't demonstrate the problem" message and a bill.
Thanks
Roger

I took out the 1 Gb stick and it did the same thing. About half the time it boots, works for a little while then freezes up. The rest of the time it won't boot past the spinning wheel then the blue screen. Same deal with the OSX DVD and the DiskWarrior CD.
Frustrating. I may have to send it in.

• My Pixma 922 makes a scratchy sound when printing

Why does my Pixma 922 make a scratchy sound when printing? It just started today, and I have cleaned the rollers, the bottom tray (which is the only tray I use), I have aligned the printer heads, and unclogged the cartridges. I have troubleshooted the printer and it states all is okay? Nothing is wrong with the printing images and no half printed testing pages.
Assistance please and any ideas will be marvelous!

Hi 4Adonai,
There is a setting the in the printer driver that may resolve this issue, "Prevent Paper Abrasion". To enable this, please follow these steps:
1. Click on Start and then Control Panel.
2. Click on Printers.
3. Right click the PIXMA MX922 and left click on Printing Preferences.
4. Click on the Maintenance tab.
5. Click on the Custom Settings button.
6. Place a checkmark next to Prevent Paper Abrasion.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Apply (if available) and then OK.
Attempt to print. The noise should be gone when printing.

• In new iPad 4g, when sim card is not inserted, I can not find the enable 4g tap in the setting-cellular data tap, can some one please tell me if this is normal and if so, then when it appears, thanks

In new iPad 4g, when sim card is not inserted, I can not find the enable 4g tap in the setting-cellular data tap, can some one please tell me if this is normal and if so, then when it appears, thanks

If the SIM is out of your phone, find my phone needs a data connection, so could use wifi - IF in range of a wifi and one that it can join (ie. a known network or one that is wholly open so no login required). Your phone could also simple be turned off, so not findable, or it may have been restored (plugged into iTunes and restored as new) again, making it permanently unfindable. Honestly, for someone stealing an iPhone, this is likely the first thing they do - restore as new and it is theirs forever.
Find my iPhone is tied to the users iCloud account - the find function is part of the iCloud account's services and it communicates with the iCloud servers over a data connection - either wifi or 3G.
Have you set up your iCloud account on your replacement phone, and is it working properly on that phone?

• On line banking for another person, my Mom, who I have power of attorney for heard ppffzzzttt while inputting Mom's sensitive id info in while trying to log in again? I've had the iPad 3/ 4 & 4.5 and never heard this sound before.

I tried to access my Mother's bank for online banking. She has had a slow decline with dementia, I'm Power Of Attorney for her. When not being able to sign in, I heard through the iPad 4 Wi-fi 64 gig, a measured buzz sound, like ppffzzzttt. I've had 3 / 4 & 4.5 and never heard this sound before.
I have had Power of Attorney for my Mom for quite some time. She has been suffering with dementia in a slow then sped up type after her last heart attack. I was the worst candidate for the job but no one else would take it.
I set up banking on line so I could pay her bills. I am disabled and have trouble paying my own. The iPad again filled those shoes perfectly.
I logged on yesterday, and the page said, user name not found. I figured it might have been server maintenance or poor typing but even with all personal details the server would not send my user name.
I became concerned because today I received the Vudu letter that said their headquarters were broken into on March 25th, 2013, and a number of hard drives were stolen with all info they keep on me. They set up an all clear id free of charge for a year, if I wanted to take advantage of it which I did.
The part that bothers me is when I was inputting my Mother's sensitive id information my iPad 4 / Wi-Fi / 64 gig emitted a measured buzz sound 3 times. I have had the 3 / 4 / 4.5 / faster processor but did not go for the 128 gig 4.75, and in all that time I have never heard that sound.
The question, was the bank computer or the FBI probing my iPad 4 and did it place something on it in the memory or damage it in anyway.
I was on the phone for the next three hours with the good, bad and ugly at Citizens. After talking to an acquaintance bank manager who said she saw no problem and did not know why I could not log in. I spent the next three hours on the phone and ended up talking to a nasty tech who said, it was a rule that I could not do my Mother's banking on line anymore. A "rule" prevented me from acting in that manner. It all, from every party sounded so "hinky," Don Johnson, Miami Vice and wondered if there was a rule at all.
I asked him why and what triggered the on line banking system to suddenly boot me? The fact I had set it up about one year ago to date and it has performed flawlessly since that time and a whole year later it flagged the account. He said it could have been anything, pressing the wrong key, etc. I knew he was getting edgy so I ended up getting off the line with him because nothing would be accomplished.
I would appreciate any and all speculations, ideas, or suggestions as I look over banking law, rules, in the next few days. By the way, the money we are talking about is miniscule. A small SS check and an even smaller pension check.
Thank you,
halfcack

That situation went from inconvenient to complicated quickly. Wait for any pending orders to drop off, wait for things to clear up, wait till your upgrade comes up and then upgrade when your contract is fulfilled. I would have suggested a replacement phone, I know, with only a month left why couldn't you just upgrade early, but these situations where people try to upgrade early always end horribly and once a phone order starts, it almost cannot finish until something winds up shipped received and returned. Sorry this happened the way it did. Definitely not efficient.
