Pixma MP800

I recently bought a new desktop PC with Windows 8.1 (64bit) OS installed. I thought it would be easy to set up my faithful Pixma MP800 - but NO! It seems that Canon doesn't like my printer anymore and refuses to provide a suitable driver to make it work. I do not want to throw this (pretty expensive when I bought it) printer away as it has great features like CD printing, photo negative & slide scanning. Not to mention that I bought 3 complete sets of Canon replacement ink tanks relatively recently. Can anyone help me get my printer working again?

Thank you all for your useful contributions!
For any other poor soul out there who has an PIXMA MP800, the solution is to download the MP800 MP Driver Ver 1.11 and the MP Navigator Ver 2.02 for Windows 7 and run them on Windows 8.1 in compatibility mode. You get the files from here http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp800#Dr...
I just wonder why Canon customer support couldn't have told me this instead of saying that the PIXMA MP800 is no longer supported and suggesting I use the loyalty program to get a discount on a new printer!

  • Canon Pixma MP800 suddenly invisible to my OS 10.6.4 mac

I am a (usually) technically proficient longtime mac user, and I have spent 4 hours trying everything to solve this but can't.
A month ago or so I set up this new imac, and dowloaded the canon website drivers for printing and scanning - and set up and used printing and scanning sucessfully for a while.
The Canon PIXMA MP800 is hooked up via a USB cable directly to iMac.
Recently I tried to scan and couldnt - tried to print aqnd couldnt. Got errors that talked about being offline. So I deleted the printers, but when I tried to re-add the printer - there were no printers to add on the list.
I have tried reinatalling everything I can, incuding the canon printer drivers file on the apple website. I have done the "hold control while assing printer" thing to reset things. no help.
One thing in my attempts that I found odd...throughout this process, I have found my Library/Printers/ folder completely empty. Is that right? Or is my new mac set somehow that I just cant see the files that are there?
Can it be that an OS update has screwed up printing communication?
Never been so upset and frustrated at a mac before. What the heck is going on!?!
    Help!! thanks in advance.

According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669?viewlocale=en_US, the driver for this printer doesn't support scanning.

Use Software Update to download the latest drivers to get printing working again.

Which Library/Printers/ folder is empty? The one in your home directory? Or the one on your hard drive? The one on your hard drive should have the installed drivers, but the one in your home directory will be empty until you launch the proxy for the added printer.
    Hope this helps.

  • PIXMA MP800 scanner driver error

    Hi
My Canon PIXMA MP800 was working perfectly until today, when I tried to use the scanner software MP Navigator. Instead of starting up the program, I got this dialog: "The scanner driver supported by this software is not installed. Install it and then retry."
I downloaded all relevant drivers & software from the Canon website, deleted all the old software, restarted and reinstalled, but still I get the same message. The printer works fine, it's only the scanner software that won't start up.
These are the current drivers & software:
    ScanGear MP800 12.23.0
    MP Navigator 2.1.2
    Canon MP800 4.8.3
I wonder if it is the 10.5.7 update that has glitched things, because I haven't scanned since that update. Nor have I installed any other scanner or printer software.
    Any ideas?

One thing I noticed after running the 10.5.7 update was that all my USB connected printers were no longer listed in my Printers list. Only the network printers and the Adobe PDF writer were still present. Maybe this has also reset the scanner setup.
I check that the MP800 data source file is still present on your Mac. This will be located in Mac HD > Library > Image Capture > TWAIN Data Sources and will probably be displayed as Canon MP800 Series.ds.
If the file is present then I would check that you can scan via the Image Capture application, located in Applications. This will indicate if the the Mac can still see recognise the MP800 via some other software compared to Navigator. With Image Capture running, you should be able to select Devices and then Browse Devices. The MP800 should appear in the list and when you select it you should be able to scan.
If the above works then you have narrowed down the symptom to it being related to Navigator, although I'm not sure why the update would have stopped it from working. You could try running a repair disk permissions via Disk Utility. This is always a good thing to do after any software install or update.

  • Canon Pixma MP800 driver posted -- a question

Yesterday I saw that Canon has posted the updated drivers for my Pixma MP800 all-in-one. It is a CUPS driver, version 10.26.0.0. The scanner driver is version 12.13.1.
Has anyone successfully used these drivers at this point? I'm waiting to upgrade to SL until I'm sure I won't be out of luck. <G>
    Thanks!

Regarding the scanning via Airport, this will not function due to driver constraints. The Canon scanning software only supports direct USB connections.
As for the printer, the following details the procedure for repairing faulty installations of the Canon PIXMA drivers.
    1. Open Printer Setup Utility, click on Printer Setup Utility and select Reset Printing System.
    2. Close the Printer Setup Utility.
    3. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinters folder.
    4. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the file/s Canon MP800 xxx.pkg
    5. Empty the Trash
    6. Restart the Mac
    7. Install the latest version of the Canon driver. Check the Canon web site to ensure you have the latest version.
    8. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option.
    9. Open Printer Setup Utility and click Add.
    10. Select the Default Browser view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer.
    11. Click Add to add the printer.

  • Canon Pixma MP800 gone after update driver

After speaking to Apple yesterday about a separate matter, I was talking to the tech support guy about not being able to scan wireless on my Canon MP800 but that I can print wirelessly. The printer not technically a wireless printer, but is found on network anyway when plugged into airport, the tech guy said I should be able to scan too. He suggested that I go on canon site and download latest print driver for my printer for OS X. I did this today as well as updated the other software it had available for updating. I installed as suggested, simple install, restarted computer as required, then tried to print and I cannot find my Canon MP800 anymore! Not in the printer menu. Can't find it by "add printer". Nowhere to be found! Any suggestions?

  • Canon Pixma MP800?

Has anyone with the above all-in-one printer installed SL yet? I'm planning to upgrade to SL soon, and I'm wondering if my MP800 will continue to work (I use it via USB in my Airport base station). I called Canon today, and they said that the new drivers would be available -- probably -- in 2-3 weeks. However, until then I don't want to be without printing and scanning capability. I'll postpone upgrading, if necessary, but if someone else has already done the upgrade and can enlighten me, I'd appreciate knowing.
    Thanks!

Here's what I found there, Niel:
+Canon uses their own network protocol often referred to as BJNP. This will be updated from Canon for a few models on Sept. 12th. The Canon Printers will still work if:+
+1) They were already installed and configured under Leopard before the upgrade.+
+2) Deleting them and trying to add them back will not work.+
+3) The ONLY Canon AIO and Multifunction inkjet printers that will eventually supported under Snow Leopard are:+
    +MX300, MX310, MX320, MX330, MX700, MX850, MX860, MX7600.+
    Also
    +MP Series:+
    +MP130, MP140, MP150, MP160, MP170, MP180, MP190, MP210, MP240, MP250, MP450, MP460, MP470, MP480, MP490, MP500, MP510, MP520, MP530, MP560, MP600, MP610, MP620, MP750, MP760, MP780, MP800, MP800R, MP810, MP830, MP950, MP960, MP970, MP980.+
+Strangely the scanner portion of the above Canon machines works out of the box fully and is recognized by bonjour with no additional software required.+
This seems to be sort of different from what I was told by the Canon tech today. He said scanning would not work right away! I think I'll make sure that my Canon MP 800 is installed both as a wired printer and with a USB-to-Airport printer before I do the upgrade to SL. That should -- I hope -- take care of things for me. It may not, however, for my husband, who relies on the wireless connection to access the printer. :S
    Thanks for that link!

  • USB 2.0 high speed card won't run Canon MP800 printer

I have a Power Mac G4 AGP graphics. I installed OS X 10.4.4 on it. I purchased a new Canon PIXMA MP800 multi-function- printer. It needed a USB 2.0 high-speed connection. I purchased an Allegro USB 2.0 high-speed adapter card and installed it in my empty PCI slot. Here's my problem: When I connected the Canon printer, it would not print or scan.....it just went through the motion of sending, but not completing the task. I called Canon to trouble shoot the problem. I connected the Canon printer to my native USB 1.1 port and it worked fine. I then, removed my PCI card and reinstalled it, to be sure that it was seated correctly in. The Canon still would not work. So I plugged my old HP 1200C printer(USB 1.1) into the USB 2.0 port and my printer did work, but at the USB 1.1 speed. I contacted Sonnet Technology on the Allegro USB 2.0 PCI card and they said to try a utility called Cocktail or Tiger Cleaner to try and fix the problem. I downloaded Coctail and ran it to see if this would work. It didn't fix my problem. Any suggestions?

what type of USB 2.0 PCI card did you put in? have a look at the card and find out what chip is on it and let me know. I put one in mine that has the VIA VT6212L chip in it and it doesn't work either, despite OS X having native drivers for USB 2.0 cards.
The USB ports on my card didn't work at all until I installed a driver that I got from VIA. Even then though only 1.1 devices work while the 2.0 devices are not even recognised.
From what I hear, adaptec brand USB 2.0 PCI cards are what you want to get in future, plug them in and off they go (wish I'd done my homework). No messing around with drivers that support only half your new hardwares features.......of course its the other half that you actually need.
I've spent hours reading through all sorts of info and scanning forums everywhere to try to find a fix, I understand why you're a little woozie. A possible fix that people seem to keep suggesting is to zap your PRAM (restart holding command-option-P-R keys, don't release the keys until after the 3rd chime), didn't help me and I doubt it'll help you but at least when people tell you to try it you can say you've done it.
here's my post to my problem:

Goodluck, please let me know if you find a fix.

  • Before I install MX922, do I need to uninstall drivers for MP800 first?

My MP800 is out after many years of service due Error Code 6500. Before I install MX922, do I need to uninstall drivers for MP800? Or just install MX922 as normal? Running OS X 10.10 Yosemite on Mac mini. I want my scanned images done by MP800 to remain on my mac of course. Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi pmt513,
You don't have to uninstall the drivers for the PIXMA MP800 prior to installing the PIXMA MX922; however, if you would like to, you can reset the printer system on your Mac to uninstall the drivers without removing the scanned images.  To do this, please follow these steps:
    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners.
    2. Hold down the Control key as you click in the list at the left, then choose “Reset printing system” from the menu that appears. After you reset the printing system, the list of printers in Printers & Scanners preferences should be empty. If your printer is still listed on the left select your printer and then click the minus (-) button to delete it.
    3. Restart your Mac.
You can now install the drivers for the PIXMA MX922.
    Hope this helps!

  • Scanning on a Canon Pixma MP810 via an Airport Express

Can I scan from a Canon Pixma MP800/MP810 that is connected to a Airport Express? Printing works fine, but when I open Canons supplied program, it won't connect to the printer for scanning.

    No scanning is not possible.
Can I scan using my all-in-one when it is connected to the USB port of an Airport Express or Airport Extreme Base Station?

  • Faulting application itunes.exe, version 8.0.2.20

I have iTunes error out a lot now. The Windows Event Log shows this:
Faulting module quicktime.qts, version 7.55.90.70, fault address 0x001517a4.
I get this if I leave iTunes idle for awhile. Any idea how to avoid this one?

I have the same problem. But everytime I connect my iPod touch I get this error. Only just started happening in the last few weeks, I can't identify what I have changed to cause it, or exactly when it started. It works fine on the work computer. Only new thing I can think of is I attached my PIXMA MP800 printer otherwise only other things I have done is I had to hard reset the iPod touch and I have updated some of the apps on it via wireless connection.

  • I love Apple! (Network printing fixed)

There's a reason why I've stuck with Macs for over two decades, and it was reinforced today. Yesterday I upgraded to 10.6.1 from 10.5.8 on my late-2006 MB. I ran a test of my apps (I'd already updated any that needed it) and ran a one-page test for my printer, a Canon Pixma MP800. Everything was fine -- temporarily.
When my husband came home, he noticed that he couldn't print from his newer MB, still on 10.5.8. Hmmm. Then I discovered that I could no longer print, either; both of us use the same printer, which is connected to my AEBS by USB cable and isn't even in the same room as my husband's MB. Hoping for an easy solution, I quickly upgraded his computer to 10.6.1, but no joy.
This morning I called Canon, who told me to test printing when connected directly to each of our computers. That worked, but it wasn't going to be a long-term solution, of course. Canon told me to call Apple.
I spoke to one tech who really tried, but he couldn't figure out the problem. He said he'd research it and call back in an hour. Well, he didn't call, but now I had a case number, so I called again. This time, the tech I spoke with immediately pushed my call to the network section, where I spoke with a wonderful tech named Megan. We ended up completely eliminating and redoing my wireless network to take care of a couple of problems I didn't realize I had, and then I heard the very sweet sound of my printer warming up and spitting out a test page! That worked on both computers, so we're once again in business.
    I do love Apple!

    ditto,
like i've said before, the wireless connectivity reliability and speed of AppleTV is frighteningly good.
Or it gives the impression of that. I think some credit must go to the excellent H264 encoding, very high quality, small file sizes, with just a lot of cpu grunt required to do the decoding and encoding.

  • Problem with MBP-Air.Ext.-Canon Printer

Hello... I recently encountered a problem with my PIXMA MP800 while trying to scan... I use a Mac Book Pro with an airport extreme base, to which the printer is conected via USB... There is no way I can scan a document while maintaining this connection... The way I solved the problem was by connecting the printer directly to the computer (via USB) and skip the airport extreme base...
My question is, is there someway around this problem, just so I do not have to change connections every time I want to scan a document?...
Mac Book Pro 2.16 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I have a Pixma 500 and I was never able to scan wirelessly. I can print through the Airport Extreme but not scan. I ran into problems when I reinstalled my OS now I cannot even print wirelessly. I have contacted Canon a few times about this and I got the same generic reply. Apple Care is your best option for assistance with printing wirelessly, I do not think it will scan wirelessly at all. So yeah it is a pain to have to connect to the printer just to scan. One other option you have is to use a USB drive if you have another PC connected to the base station and just copy the files to the USB drive and then scan through the PC by the base station. That way at least you don't have to lug your laptop around. Good Luck and post back if you figure anything out!

  • Unable to print with my Canon PIXMA IP 4700 and JetDirect network appliance

After many tries I decided to post my question.
I have a Canon PIXMA IP 4700 connected to the network with a Jetdirect 175X box. So I tried to add a new printer with a "HP Jetdirect Socket" port. I have previously installed the driver from the official website. The test page is staying on the spooler.
I also tried with LPD port (supported by the Jetdirect box) and IPP but nothing is working.
When the printer is directly connected with USB, it's working fine. Printing from my others Windows computers is working fine too since many months.
    Thank your for your help.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your problem is being caused by the Canon driver. It cannot be used when the printer is connected to the USB port of a 3rd party print server, or if shared by Windows.
The solution is to use a driver like Gutenprint or PrintFab. Gutenprint is preferred because it is free (it ships with OS X) however the iP4700 is not listed as a supported model. The iP4600 is listed so you could try selecting this model in the Print Using menu (shown as Canon PIXMA iP4600 - Gutenprint v5.2.3). If the iP4600 Gutenprint driver does not work that well then you could look at using [PrintFab|http://www.printfab.net] which does support the iP4700. It costs €49 but there is a 30 day trial so at least you can try it before committing to buying.
Another option would be to use a Airport device, like the Express, instead of the Jetdirect print server. With the printer connected to its USB port you can then use the Canon iP4700 driver on the Mac.

  • Installed a wireless canon Pixma MX432 printer back in November for use with my Mac Book Air. All was working normally until this past week when I began getting a message, "printer not connected." What is going on? Netgear Wireless N Router seems to be ok

My new canon Pixma MX432 printer is not printing. It was printing fine until about ten days ago. I use a Netgear Wireless N router, which is also new. What do I need to do. I get a message when trying to print that says "printer not connected." In addition, my old Gateway laptop will still print fine apparently because it has a cable connection to the printer. Puzzled!

Have you tried rebooting the router? I would unplug it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. Be sure you know the password etc. if that doesn't work, try unplugging and rebooting the printer. Good luck!
