PIXMA MP970 won't install on Yosemite 10.10.3

Hello.  I've been trying for hours to install the PIXMA MP970 on my home network. I don't have the disk. When I look for the driver online, I get this message:  "There is no driver for the OS Version you selected. The driver may be included in your OS or you may not need a driver."  I have downloaded the Canon IJ Network Tool, but still can't get it to connect.  I connected the printer to my new laptop with USB running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, but no matter which way I try to connect to the network, automatically or manually, nothing works.  I made sure all the settings in the printer are the same as the network settings. Any help will be appreciated.

I found that downloading and installing the Canon IJ Network Tool (Yosemite version) and the CUPS printer driver Mount Lion version (i.e. OS/X 10.8) did the trick for me. System Preferences took a few extra seconds to find the printer (although it detected the scanner quickly without these downloads) when I tried to add it.  So if you haven't already bought a replacement, you might want to try such first!

  • Acrobat XI Pro trial won't install under Yosemite

I've downloaded a trial version of Acrobat XI and launched the installer but I get the spinning wheel after clicking on "Install" and it becomes unresponsive and I have to Force Quit. I don't get an error message. I've just noticed that Adobe Reader won't run now either, so there seems to be an underlying problem with Acrobat-related software. I have InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop CS5 running perfectly fine. Hopefully someone has an idea! Thanks in advance.

Alright y'all (jklawmd, Supritha Papannajklawmd, and anyone else having this issue),
I was having this same exact issue, and I actually referred to your post hoping for a fix (that I obviously did not find), however, I did discover a work around!!! I use "Adobe AIR" for my "Pandora One Desktop Application", but every time I opened the installer for "Pandora One" it gave me the same exact error. Here is what I did to fix it (Hoping it helps y'all too):
BEFORE starting ensure that the "AIR Program" that you want to install is downloaded and located in your "Downloads" folder
Uninstall "Adobe AIR" using the included uninstaller (Navigate to your "Utilities" folder in a "New Finder Window" in order to find this, once you're there you can't miss it)
Delete all previous "Adobe AIR" downloads
Download a new "Adobe AIR" Installer from "Adobe" (Sounds redundant I know, but bear with me)
Install "Adobe AIR" using the most recent download
VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THE "AIR PROGRAM" YET
Once the "Adobe AIR" Installation is complete navigate to "File" and select "New Finder Window"
Once there select the "Applications" folder from the menu bar on the left of the window (Should be under "Favorites")
Navigate to your "Utilities" Folder (Again)
Locate the icon for "Adobe AIR Application Installer" and open it; This will open a new window
Once the new window is open, navigate to your "Downloads" folder and locate the "AIR Program" that you want to install select the "AIR Program" and click "Open" (Bottom right hand corner)
    TaDa!!!
Following those steps should culminate in the initialization of the install process for the program that you weren't able to install before, and from there it is business as usual (selecting and answering to the necessary install prompts for the "AIR Program"). It seems like there is a glitch somewhere between "Yosemite" and "Adobe AIR" that prevents the "Adobe AIR Application Installer" from auto-running properly when you try to open the sub-program. However, initializing the "Adobe AIR Application Installer" FIRST allows it to get up and running before the sub-program communicates with it. This fixed it for me right away, please let me know whether it works for your specific "Adobe AIR"/"AIR Program" set, if not I will download your "AIR Program" and see if I can't find another way. Also, has anyone contacted either Adobe Support or Apple Support directly with this yet??
I hope this helps, personally, I don't know where I would be without my "Pandora One Desktop Application"!!!

  • IPhoto downloaded from Apps but won't install on Yosemite

I have tried twice to download iPhoto. Each time it downloaded then began to install but never finished. Instead I got a message saying it didn't download! I was using the Apps Store. My Mountain Lion version doesn't work on Yosemite. How can I get the latest version to install? I have the same problem with Aperture.

Each time it downloaded then began to install but never finished. Instead I got a message saying it didn't download!
Restart you Mac in Safe Mode, see this link:
Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode. http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1564
That might clear the App Store caches and prevent other software from interfering with the connection to the AppStore.
    Then try to download again.

  • IPhoto won't install following Yosemite upgrade

After upgrading to Yosemite on my 2011 Macbook Air, I tried to open iPhoto but I got a message saying that a new version of iPhoto needed to be downloaded, and redirected me to the App Store. I clicked the Accept button for the iPhoto download and gave my correct username and password, but nothing happened. I've reclicked "Accept" multiple times and nothing occurs. There's no indication anywhere that it's installing - no status update, nothing in Launchpad or under the Launchpad icon, no spinning wheel, nothing in the "Updates" section of the App Store (and doesn't even list iPhoto as one of the updates available). I read in the app reviews that many others didn't see any indication that it was installing, but they just waited a bit and it was installed on their machines. I've waited for 2 hours and it still hasn't installed on mine.
With these obstacles in mind, does anyone have suggestions for how I can get the new iPhoto installed on my system and regain access to my photos? I've got to upload photos for a story and get them to my editor tonight, so this is driving me bananas.

Accepting associates your Apple ID with the preinstalled iPhoto. It should move iPhoto from the "Accept" portion of the App Store to the "Purchased" tab. After that, you should be able to update iPhoto from the Updates tab of the AppStore.
If you do you not see the update there, try to buy iPhoto. If you are lucky, it may show for free.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, otherwise you cannot buy it again. But do not empty the Trash, so you can put iPhoto back, if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

  • HP Envy 7640 driver won't install on Yosemite Mac OS 10.10.1

I am running MAC OS 10.10.1 (newest Yosemite update). I have downloaded the newest drivers from the hp website. I am trying to install the drivers for my new printer for the first time and the drivers will not open, as they say they're not recognized.

    Hi renee1958,
Will you please provide me with the exact error message you are receiving (or a screenshot)?
I'd also like to confirm that you are trying to download and install this file: HP-ENVY-7640-series_v12.39.0.dmg.
It sounds like you have already run ASU for the latest computer updates, but I recommend following the steps in this doc: Installing Your HP Printer Driver and Software for Mac OS X.
Let me know if that works. Thanks.

  • Adobe Flash Player won't install on Yosemite 10.10

The installer gets to 95% complete and then chugs eternally. I have tried the offline uploader.

To clarify, I've followed all the instructions on the Adobe website. I've uninstalled my flash player and tried a clean install with both the online and offline installers. Always the same result. Stops at 95%.

No way. AE 7 (CS2) requires PowerPC support and Apple themselves have long pulled the plug on it.

  • My macbook pro early 2012 won't install release version of yosemite after being in the beta test

my macbook pro early 2012 won't install release version of yosemite after being in the beta test, anyone else having any issues with this?

Received an email from apple saying thank you for being in the beta test and they tell you to download the release version from the mac app store and install it. Done this twice and it says installed successfully after rebooting twice and doing the usual install of a new OS. However when it boots up and opens your desktop it still has the Feedback assistant installed and continuity and all the new features do not work at all. Making me assume that the final release has not installed at all. Spoke to apple on the Phone and they Don't know how to solve it. Except for doing a fresh OS Install. Which i would rather not do, but might have too. currently backing up my Mac as we spec to do it

  • Yosemite won't install due to a "S.M.A.R.T. drive problem that can't be repaired."

After downloading Yosemite successfully, it won't install due to a "S.M.A.R.T. drive problem that can't be repaired."  It says to back up as much as possible and replace the drive.  Everything works flawlessly with Mavericks.  What gives??

If you are getting a S.M.A.R.T. error then you should be more worried about losing everything on your drive then about upgrading your Mac OS.  Regardless of if you are running Mac OS, Linux, or Windows, you should never just disregard such a drive error.  S.M.A.R.T. is designed to give you a warning that your drive is statistically having far more errors than normal and should be backed up immediately and typically replaced.
In your case, it's likely a coincidence that your drive is failing at the time you are attempting to upgrade to Yosemite.  You should stop what you are doing, backup your drive (if you don't already have the backups that you should prior to any OS upgrade), and replace the hard drive prior to moving forward.
To make it clear, your hard drive is likely going to fail soon and you may lose everything on it at any moment.  This failure has nothing to do with Yosemite or any Mac OS.  All hard drives fail at some point.  Hopefully this S.M.A.R.T. notice has given you the opportunity to solve a major problem before it gets worse.

  • Canon Pixma MP970 Printer - Need Help Installing on 10.9.3!

I have a Canon Pixma MP970 printer that I cannot get to work on my MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.3! I had no issue running it on the initial release of OS 10.9, but now it is making me pull my hair out!
I recently wiped my ssd and reinstalled OS X from the recovery partition and this is when I began encountering the issue. I went to the Canon website and there are no drivers provided because it says they are already contained in OS 10.9 (and the Canon website already detects my OS). I have plugged the printer into my MacBook Pro using a USB cable and running software update (to make sure any drivers are downloaded) and there is no download. I have tried entering the printer IP address manually and still nothing.
I am out of options unless a kind soul on these forums can light the path for me. Is it possible this printer is no longer supported after an incremental OS update?
    Printer: Canon Pixma MP970
Connection: Home network, wired LAN to router (printer itself already configured for network, and was working before ssd wipe)

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • 2011s MacBook Pro won't install Yosemite neither reboot or boot into recovery mode.

Hello everyone, I've searched all around the web and didn't find a solution.
Sorry about my english, btw, I'm from Brasil lol!
I have a 2011s MacBook Pro, used to run Snow Leopard until 2 days ago, when I downloaded Yosemite and restarted the computer to run the installation.
During the process, it stopped at 22%, and said: FILE SYSTEM VERIFY OR REPAIR FAILED.
I tried to reboot on Macintosh HD as usual, but it's not possible, I can't unmount the HD to repair it, can't erase it and I'm a little desperate.
I have a good backup of important files on an external drive, so the best solution for me would be to format the HD again, with the Yosemite image which appears to be running at startup.
Command+ anything at startup doesn't work, probably because the Yosemite install is trying to run...
    Any suggestions???
    Thank you!

    Hey Vince,
I have the same or similar issue.  Please forgive my English, as I attended American Public schools
So last night, my MacBook Pro told me hey you want to download this free and amazing new OS called Yosemite?
(I'm adding to your post to hopefully grab more attention and then maybe grab a solution from someone out there..)
I thought yea, no, maybe, okay it's free, they say it is amazing-- why not?!?
So I downloaded and clicked okay to restart and install the new OS.......but it won't install the OS and I get stuck here on this screen.
I have tried restarting about 10 ties. I have tried quitting the install but it won't allow me to boot from Mac HD or my time capsule HD.  I tried going into the menu options above but it won't let me repair or reboot or anything to get my MacBook to work again.
It is pretty frustrating. I went from having a working MacBook Pro to having a nightlight.
Vince- if you get a solution or a fix, Please let me know.
    Thanks
    john

  • Windows- bootcamp won't start after installing OSX Yosemite - Ameriguayo

Like so many others, I installed OSX Yosemite this morning and now Boot Camp no longer works.
After I updated to Yosemite I restarted my computer, held down  alt, and was presented nothing but a Macintosh HD. I followed “Loner T’s” instructions. Here's my info...
