PIXMA MX882 questions

I received this good info from Canon support on 01/09/2013 re PIXMA MX882:
The bigger black ink tank contains pigment based black ink.  This ink provides dark and sharp black text on plain paper.  The bigger black ink tank is used when the paper type is set to plain paper.
The smaller black ink tank is a dye based ink.  This ink provides greater contrast when printing photographs.
The printer heats up the printhead to put ink on the paper.  It uses ink to keep the printhead cool.  If there is no ink in the ink tank, the printhead would overheat and become damaged.
This is why the printer will not print until an empty ink tank is replaced.
Each ink tank has its own purpose.  You cannot switch to one when the other is empty.  The cartridge would need to be replaced.
The PIXMA MX882 will use color ink tanks to print colored text.  Even if the grayscale option is checked in the printer driver, if the original text is in a color other than black, the PIXMA MX882 will combine the cyan, magenta and yellow ink tanks together to make a composite black.  This is why your color ink cartridges are still being used.  Duplex printing also uses a combination of colors to create black, this is due to ink drying time between pages when printing in duplex mode.
To use only the Pigment Black or large black ink tank, the following settings must be used:
  1.  The original text must be black.
  2.  The paper setting must be set to Plain Paper.
  3.  The Duplex printing option must be disabled.
  4.  The Grayscale printing feature must be disabled.

  • Pixma mx882 printer error C000

I got a Pixma mx882 printer recently. It is a lovely printer, I love all the features it has. However, when I first plugged it in, it booted up and immediately displayed the reading, 'Printer Error has occured. Turn off power then back on again. If problem persists, see the manual. I've tried turning it off and on and off again. I've tried unplugging it and leaving it for a while... but nothing so far has worked. Does this mean it has a serious internal problem? What causes this? I don't even see a forum thing for this kind of error. Any suggestions?
    Much appreciated.

    Hi sparkangel,
You will want to ensure that all packaging materials and tape have been removed from the printer, then remove and reseat the ink tanks and print head if they have already been installed.  If you still receive the error and resetting the printer did not work, the printer may require servicing; please call or email us at one of the methods on the Contact Us page to obtain your servicing options.

  • I have an airport extreme with a HP Folio laptop and cannon pixma MX882 printer. when i am VPN'd in thru Cisco vpn and try to print the wireless print connection stops. i Un-VPN and it prints. then i have to go back into VPN to continue?how do i configure

i have an Airport Extreme wireless router, HP Folio laptop (company supplied) and a Canon PIXMA MX882 wireless printer, copier, scanner and fax.
when i am VPN's in thru CISCO VPN to my company Intranet site I cannot print wirelessly. i have to turn off VPN, priint and log back into the company intranet site.  is there a way to configure the router so that it is not blocking the signal?
    Tx

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.
    http://stevejenkins.com/blog/2010/01/using-the-local-default-gateway-with-a-wind ows-vpn-connection/
    Cisco vpn client..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/239113
I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • I have a pixma MX882 printer and all of a sudden it stopped printing black text, can you help?

    Hi richardjancsi!
So that the Community can help you better, we will need to know any error messages you're seeing, and the Computer Operating System you're using (Windows XP/Vista/7/8 or Mac 10.x), as well as the way you connect to your device (USB or networked via WiFi or Ethernet).
Any other details you'd like to give will only help the Community better understand your issue!
Thanks and have a great day!

Hi richardjancsi! The best way to find out what is occurring is to perform a Nozzle Check.  Please perform the following to print a Nozzle Check pattern:  1.  Make sure that the machine is turned on, then load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.  2.  Open the Paper Output Tray and then open the Output Tray Extension.  3.  To print the nozzle check pattern:      a.  Press the Setup button.      b.  Select Maintenance, then press the OK button.  The Maintenance screen is displayed.      c.  Select Print nozzle check pattern and then press the OK button.  The pattern print confirmation screen is displayed.      d.  Select Yes and then press the OK button. The nozzle check pattern is printed and the pattern confirmation screens are displayed alternately. Examine the nozzle check pattern on the LCD of your PIXMA MX882 and you can also compare it to the following example:  Check the pattern to see if any lines are missing.  Missing lines or no ink appearing on the paper indicates a printhead cleaning may be required.  If your printout does not match the example, please perform a printhead cleaning by selecting B and then choosing Yes.  If these options are not available, please perform the following steps to perform a Cleaning:   1.  Press the MENU button.  2.  Select Maintenance then press the OK button.  3.  Select Deep Cleaning and press OK.  4.  Press OK to select Yes. The deep cleaning will be performed.  After 2 or 3 deep cleanings, print another test page.  Does the test page print correctly?  If not, then service may be required.  Please CLICK HERE for additional support on this matter. Thanks!

  • Pixma MX882 Print Nozzle Check

Hi all.  New user, first post.
I've been trying to clear up a problem printing the nozzle test pattern with no success.  I've done a clean multiple times.  I've done a deep clean.  I've taken the advice about soaking the print head in distilled water(last time for more than 3 hours).  None of these have worked.  I still can't get a good test pattern to print.  Missing lines.  Does any one have other suggestions for things to try?  Is it time to get a new print head?  Take it to a 'professional'?
    TIA

  • Canon PIXMA MX882 error message b200

I just received an error message b200 and a message saying I should disconnect the power cord and contact a service center.  I did what some others did and removed the printhead and flushed it with water to clean it and put it back.  Didn't make a difference.  Also, when I turn on the printer, it makes a nasty scraping noise.  Does anyone know how serious this problem is?  Can it be fixed, or do I need to retire this one and get a new one.  If I get a new one, any recommendations.  I need the print, scan and fax functions and am willing to spend up to $200.  We usually don't print photos from the printer.  I need a working printer very badly since I use it for work.

    Hello,
Please try unplugging the printer for at least 10 minutes.  If the issue persists at that point, the best thing to do would be to get in touch with our technical support team at http://bit.ly/Phone_Support for further assistance.  They will let you know of all the options you have.
    Thanks!

  • Pixma MX882 not scanning wirelessly on Mac

It prints OK, but I cannot scan wirelessly using the Navigator or the Quick Menu. I can, however, sometimes (not always) scan using the print/scan preferences in my iMac system preferences. I have downloaded and re-installed the drivers, checked that the printer/scanner is the default printer/scanner. I don't know what else to try. Running OS 10.9.3

  • Pixma MX 882 in if there is an answer machine on the line I can only receive faxes manually

I have a Pixma MX 882. I was told a while back by Canon Support that if there is an answer machine on the same line as the Canon that I can only receive faxes manually. Has Canon solved the problem.?
HP can do it, Brothers can do it, old Fax only machines can do it

    Hi mort,
This is true...but let me clarify the setup for you.  The answering machine must be connected directly to the printer.   Your phone cord will come from the wall outlet, into your PIXMA MX882 (L port on your printer) and then out (from the phone port) to the answering machine.  With your printer connected between the wall outlet and the answering machine, the printer can "listen in" for a fax on the line when the answering machine picks up.  Be sure the printer is set to Tel Priority mode and the answering machine is set to pick up in about 3 rings.
If this didn't work, or if you have any other questions, please feel free to Contact Us!

  • When my MX882 prints at standard or fast settings, I get 1/4 inch striping (left to right).

The stripes appear to be caused by extra blue ink in the darker bands.  The head-test looked great with one possible clue that is not described in the manuals or forums (so far).  The top color block (C) is two tone blue, 50/50.  No known changes were made to the printer or the computers that have access.  What could cause this?  OR even more important, how do I clear it up.  Printing everything on high quality is expensive.

    Hi Thumb1,
Performing a print head alignment on the printer may improve the print quality you are experiencing.  To perform a print head alignment, please follow the steps located at the link below:

  • Canon MX882 for Mac OS X 10.8.4

    Hello,
I am trying to print pdf files from a Canon MX882 from a macbook air, but it takes a while for the document to spool. Other printers that have been used on this computer don't have the same issue with pdfs. The MX882 takes awhile to spool because it seems to make the document larger than it is. One pdf page printing on an HP printer yields 200kb yet on the Canon it's 11mb. I have tried installing the latest driver from the website and also tried the CUPS driver, but I wasn't able to locate the CUPS driver after installing the pkg. The only way I can get any pdf file to print faster is if I check print as image within Adobe and change the dpi to <150. The printout is legible, but not as crisp as it should be. Are there alternative drivers I can try with the Mac either generic or from another model?

    Hi BigGulps,
The latest CUPS as well as other required driver files for the printer can be downloaded from the Canon USA website.  The following link will take you to the initial download page for your PIXMA MX882:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx882#Dr...
Once on the initial download page for your model, please do the following:
    1.  Verify that your operating system type is selected correctly in the OPERATING SYSTEM field.  If it is not, please select your operating system from the drop-down field.
    2.  Next, please click on the red arrow next to the "DRIVERS" section and click the MINI MASTER SETUP file.  This will download the CUPS as well as all other required driver files for the printer.  When you do, another page will appear giving details of the file you are about to download will appear.
    3.  Please scroll down on the Details page and agree to the terms of the disclaimer message to continue with the download process by clicking on the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button.  After clicking the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button, follow the instructions to download and install the driver.
    Hope this helps!

  • MX882 New Printhead won't print PGBK at all ...

I replaced my MX882 printhead with a brand new CANON along with new cartridges.  All colors print fine except the PGBK will not print out a thing.  I tried reinserting, cleaning, etc.  No luck.  The printer was printing fine just before the old printhead stopped altogether.
There are no error messages.  What should I do?  Can anyone help me?
I checked the peel-away strip on the cartridge and it's been properly removed.

    Hi tortuga,
Since the cleanings did not resolve the issue, performing a print head alignment on the printer may get the black ink to print.  To do this, please follow the steps located at the link below:
    PIXMA MX882 Print Head Alignment
If the black ink still does not print after performing the alignment, the printer will require servicing.  Please Contact Us for your servicing options.

  • Where is Sleep Mode on MX882?

My PIXMA MX882 has started falling asleep lately. The control panel goes dark all except for the WiFi button. When I try to print wirelessly, I get "printer not connected." The printer works fine after I turn it off and turn it back on. It sounds to me like the device is falling asleep after nonuse. I can't find a Sleep mode setting, though. Any ideas?

    Thanks for that.
This solved it for me: switch off printer. Reboot router. Switch printer back on and re-enter wireless credentials on printer to get back onto wireless network. The screen on the printer still goes dark when not used for a while (product support tell me that is how it should be and cannot be changed) but now when I print from a wireless connection as well as from a hard-wired one, the printer wakes up and does its thing correctly.

How can i print on my pixma mx882 from my iPad or iPhone?

  • Iphone 4S print to Canon MX882

I'm trying to print from my iPhone 4S to a wireless Canon MX882 printer but it asks for "user name" and "password".  I am unable to find how to set those on the printer.  I have the "Canon iEPP" app on my iPhone which reconizes and prints to the printer so the iPhone see the printer.  Does anyone have any ideas on how and where to set the U/N & P/W?  Thanks in advance, 1Ivy2.

Did you check this out (from Canon's website)?
