.pkg files won't install. help!!!

one of the g4 733 computers we use is running 10.3.9. i need several installs for our specialized keyboard and shuttle express controls. however, the OS won't allow me to install these items, even if i am in administrator or root login. after clicking to install i get this message, "you cannot open this application because it may be damaged or incomplete." if i transfer these install .pkgs to other macs, they install perfectly. what is it on this system that is denying these installs? i've tried stuffit expander 10.0 and it tells me, "An error occured during the stuff operation. error #17530."

At a first guess, it sounds like something might have been corrupted in your Installer application (found in /Applications/Utilities)
The first thing I would try would be to copy that application over from one of your other computers, and try again... let us know how that turns out.

Okay ... so it's not one of the cases of bodged up ACLs on the Apple folder in Common Files. (That's been underlying a few of the recalcitrant E7W5s.
Just in case, let's try the fixit from the following document:

  • Photoshop Elements 12 DVD contains no setup.exe file, just setup.xml files, won't install

Newly opened boxed copy of Photoshop Elements 12 won't install on new installation of Win 8.1.  Turned off virus checking (which shouldn't be necessary), Searched files on DVD, unzipping payload files, including the temporary Premier software, and there are on setup.exe files anywhere.  Tried viewing XML files with browser, which readers xml.  Don't have time to investigate Adobe install procedure, which appears pretty sophisticated (I've written a few years ago).  Any clues?

Thanks mytaxsite. Yes, I bought it at Costco, and of course have the serial number on the box.  I'm a Microsoft developer, and searched the DVD, copying the contents to a hard drive and unzipping the "payload" files.  I understand folder viewing filters and found lots of setup.xml files, which I could have used, with some difficulty, to see where Adobe wanted to put things.  But Adobe knows its installation procedure better than I ever will, and so tried to get tech support.  I even have full Photoshop CS5 on an adjacent machine, used by my daughter, but wanted to have basic editing functionality on a machine I use for film scanning.
I never allow anything to be installed without a dialog, whether from my own or a removable storage device.  The  Windows loader apparently didn't detect autoloading functionality and only offered me the options of viewing files and trying to find multimedia, if I recall (which, since it was irrelevant, I didn't note precisely). I just wanted to see the files anyway, at which point I was puzzled by the lack of setup.exe.  I did, as Adobe suggested, disable my virus scanning software, but not my firewall. It made no difference, and I expected none.  Though I've found no legitimate software that couldn't be loaded with virus scanning enabled.
I suspect your suggestion that I download fresh software from Adobe is the correct one.  It is what I expected Adobe Technical support to suggest. Having some confidence in this newish machine, with its newish, and almost unused, BluRay/DVD burner, and my care handling DVDs, I was guessing at some xml-based installation procedure that I might need to install.  Few Costco customers, not in the software business would know where to look, so I'm curious about how Adobe could ship something lacking the old-fashioned setup.exe, twenty+ year old technology based on the DOS shell?  On the other hand, if there are new standards for installation scripts, I would like to know what they are using.

  • Downloaded files won't install

A general question about a problem I'm having. I don't think its mac mini-specific but that happens to be the machine I'm using: Some files downloaded from the internet won't install, even after I click to allow permission on the warning screen.

Most installs that write to the Applications folder are going to require the Admin password to succeed, are you entering that correctly ?

  • .PKG files won't open

So I downloaded some shareware recently and out of nowhere .pkg files can't be recognized and I can't install anything. It just gives me an option to choose an application with which to open it. This comes after cleaning out my hard drive of crap I don't use. Did I delete something by mistake that recognizes those files or can I just tell the OS which program to open .pkg's with? I'm not sure which program that would be, by the way

    ^I didn't delete any system files---only applications that I didn't use.
I don't see the installer program where you say it is -- is it under a different name than installer in that folder or, if that isn't the case, is there a way I can re-install it from the Mac OSX disc? Thanks for your help

    Daniel Walsh

    Hi,
I have had the exact same problem. My girlfirend got me a nano for Xmas. I have finally got it working tonight.
I can't take credit for this as some other clever sausage suggested it on here. I'm looking for his entry so I can thank him as it has worked for me. Have a look at the following link from Microsoft.com:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
I would check that the symptoms it describes are applicable to your computer.
I have had amajor stress but wanted to pass it on as I know how frustrating it is. After 4 weeks I have finally got it working.
I hope it works for you too.
    Chris.

  • ITunes/Recent Update/iTunesx-8.1.dist file won't install

I just recently installed the new itunes package using Software Update and the iTunes-8.1.dist file wouldn’t install.
    Is it an important file?

Hi Polydorus - Happy New Year!!! Thanks for your time and reply.
Yes i have a 32bit version of windows vista (premium)
Yes i downloaded itunes from the apple site, saved it and when i try to run it i get the hourglass for 1 second then nothing.
Looked in the task manager and nothing is running.
Never had any problem installing anything else or anything windows related.
I have spybot (rescanning now) and my antivirus is Nod32 so no risk of anything there. I even tried installing in safe mode, but no luck.
I am running firefox, not I.E. but that shouldn't matter.
I realize this is where people with problems come to gripe, but there seems to me to be a LOT of problems associated with itunes?
Spybot found nothing, Nod32 is Hey?????
While typing this, i was downloading Quicktime from the link you sent to test if that works, the file I've downloaded was named itunes setup(2) shouldn't it be quicktime?????? Guess it automatically called it (2) cause i already got itunes setup in my download folderit's the exact same size as the itunes setup file i've been downloading??????
Now the apple website actually says thanks for downloading Quicktime 7 not a thing about itunes.
Click on the download now link on the site you sent me, http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ wants to download me the itunes file not quicktime??? Try it !!
Maybe the people at apple got on the grog a bit before Christmas???
NOW itunes is installed AND RUNNING !!!!!!!!!
    WHAT THE ..... ???????????
    This is really weird.
Will connect ipod and see if this actually works or is a mirage and repost results.
That might be a fix, download it from the quicktime download link???????????, or rename it with a (2) ????
    Regards MrBlob197 (stunned and confused)

  • Problem with the PUT operation some files won't transfer help please

    Hi everyone,
I am using DWCS3 on OS X Leoard 10.5 and MAMP
I am putting together a basic index.html page and then I want to template it. Pretty basic stuff.
    However when I want to view the index.html page in my MAMP testing server, In the middle of the PUT operation I get a message saying;
File activity incomplete 1 file or folder was not completed.
    index.html - Put operation successful
    - error occurred - An error occurred - cannot put .  An unknown error occurred.
    css:index.css - same - not transferred

File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.
    Files updated: 1
    Files skipped: 8
    Files with errors: 1
    Finished: 23/07/2010 13:30
I am aware that files are not transferring over to the testing server but I don't understand why or how to fix the problem. I don't think the problem lies with the path from Dreamweaver to the testing server because I have been working on the page and viewing it in the testing server. It's only just started displaying the message above and not passing some of the files over. It will for example pass the index.css page over.
    I have copied the code over for index.html, SpryMenuBar.js, SpryMenuBarHorizontal.ccs and SpryMenuBarVertical.css.
In the hope that someone will not mind taking a look at this for me.
Below is the code for my home page in case the problem lies here

I've only encountered two instances where the PUT operation failed on certain files. One, the server does not like the particular file type, and two, when the file was open in another program.
Other than that, I could only guess that it may have something else to do with the web server configuration and not DW.

  • Leopard 10.5.6 won't install, help please

I have a Powermac G5 1.8 ghz dual processor running OSX 10.4.11. In light of the fact Snow Leopard won't run on Powermac g% I decided to purchase one of the few remaining OSX Leopard 10.5.6 Family Packs off Amazon.co.uk.
When I insert the Leopard install disc after a few moments of reading the install DVD the screen prompts you to restart your system with the disc still installed. On boot up all I seem to get is a white screen with the Apple logo, with no further progression possible beyond this point. (It is as though the system is struggling to read the DVD).
Please can anyone offer any suggestions or do I need a product return due to a faulty disc.

How long are you letting it sit in that state? A few minutes? An hour or more?
Please can anyone offer any suggestions or do I need a product return due to a faulty disc.
I'd try giving my optical drive's lens a cleaning first.

  • XP Home OEM won't install - help!

I created the partition OK, then put in the Windows disk (XP Home OEM, newly purchased, with all stickers and security holograms etc).
It goes to a DOS-like screen, says it is loading lots of drivers, then says it is starting Windows.
The next screen looks a bit like the top part of the first illustration in the Boot Camp guide, but with three options; 'Return' to install Windows, 'R' to repair, and 'F3' to exit without installing.
I press return, then nothing happens for a minute or two, then the disk spins down to silence, and then there is no response to pressing any of the three options.
In the end I had to power down, and reboot back to MacOS.
Am I getting something wrong? Is there a problem with using OEM XP disks?
What have other people done to make them load correctly?

I tried erasing and recreating the partition, but got the same result when I tried to install XP.
It's almost as if the computer is not getting 'hearing' anything from the (wired) USB keyboard (which is plugged directly into the computer).
I'm really getting very depressed about all this. Disappointment seems to be the name of the game with this new Mac Mini. I have already had to replace most of my peripherals due to lack of drivers/incompatibility, and it still won't 'see' my mini-dv camcorder.
Being able to boot into Windows was one of the ways I justified this purchase.
Please, can anyone suggest something else I can try?

  • Flash won't install - HELP!!

    Hi All,
I'm running Windows Vista and had some trouble the other day
with Adobe Flash - so I disabled it in the add-on tab. Then I
rebooted and reinstalled it. Supposedly, it reinstalled
successfully and was now listed as enabled in the add-on tab.
Except it really isn't installed. For some reason, no flash works
in IE. I'm not having the same trouble in Firefox. I ran the
Registry corrector from Microsoft but no luck there either.
Any help you could give would be greatlly appreciated. Thank
    you in advance.
    Best regards,
    Mara

    Hi Spring,
It is possible the flash player plugin/activeX is not
enabled. This is a method stated in an earlier post.
Go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Enable or Disable
    Add-ons...
In the Show drop down box, select "Add-ons that run without
permissions" or "Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer."
Check to see if there is a "Shockwave ActiveX Control" or
"Shockwave Flash Object" by Adobe Systems Incorporated. If there
is, check both of them to see if they are enabled. Check
    http://www.2advanced.com and
see if it's working. Post back to let us know if that worked.

  • TS3212 I've turned off pop up blocker and sercurity suite, still installer is interupped won't install help!!

I've turned off pop up blocker and my sercuity and firewall, still can't get I tunes to install any ideas

Look at my other reply and follow my lead.  This process worked flawlessly for me.  I got an old version
to install, authorized my device, synced my ipod, no problem.  AS A BONUS, iTunes realized it was out of date
and installed the latest and greatest on its own with no glitches.  If you need more help reply to one of my messages, and I will do the best I can for you.
One request, if you get it up and running come back with any final advice, and make that this solved your problem, so others can use our experience.
    AGAIN GOOD LUCK,
    Tim

  • Unix executable file won't open HELP!

I am having the same problem as one other person, my word folder has changed to a Unix executable file and I can't open the content in the folders anymore.  I was just using the folder yesterday and now they are now working.  Please help!

I'm not sure if this is your problem. But I was futzing with a file, and  intentionally removed most of it's attributes, as reported by the mdls command.
I was able to get enough of them back, for the file to be recognized by the finder again.
This command lists the different importers.
    $ mdimport -L
find the one that matches the filetype. Then run the following, where testfile is the file that you're having problems with.
    mdimport -g /System/Library/Spotlight/XXXXXX.mdimporter testfile
I don't use Word, so I can't tell you the name of the importer file that you need. It may be possible to just
    run
       mdimport testfile

  • T500 XP fresh install, wireless driver won't install, help!

    Hello all,
Hi all, I need some help from the techies please!!
I have had a very nasty virus (Ramnit-G) rip through my T500 which has rendered it unusable and needing a full re-install.
Now I have a legit copy of XP SP1 which is tried and tested many times on my 6 other machines so all is good.
I downloaded the ThinkVantage system update thingy as mentioned in the 4th post on this thread and also my wireless interweb driver 6mcw24ww.exe from here.
XP install all done so first job to do is get some interweb, but alas, the driver stubbornly refuses to do anything because it would like a windows installer first . So off I toddle to microsoft site and download the win installer 3.1 and install that and the interweb driver starts to install..... only to get to the final hurdle and then fail with an error box which says nothing more than "2: 0 1:" in it with an exclamation mark icon.
Can anyone help with a way round this please?
    Thanks!!

Is anyone alive on this forum??
I downloaded SP3 to a USB HDD and installed that onto the T500 and now have the internet working okay, but when I try to install the Think Vantage System Update it says that it couldn't find any supported .NET Framework.  So I downloaded the latest .NET Framework 4 from microsoft site and installed that, rebooted, tried again and it still says it can't find any supported framework.  Is version 4 not supported then?
Please someone reply.  I can't believe NO-ONE on this forum doesn't know the answer to this !
    Thanks.
