The observation is correct.  vmlinuz code allows the boot of the CD's kernel.  The fact that such code is useable is not covered in the details provided in the archCD.
As reported in previous posts attempting to use vmlinuz, there is no internet access after the boot to arch log-in.  All attempts to start the internet fail because the modules have not been loaded (numerous displays of errors during boot-up).
At any rate, the custom kernel generated through ABS after many trials does not produce a boot-up to desktop but just to log-in on vc1 which is unuseable because the keyboard cannot enter single keystrokes..repeats .  This action occurred after...pacman -Syu as well when trying to upgrade to kernel 2.6.12.2.
Code is king in performing the upgrades or making changes.
When using ABS to generate a custom kernel in LOCAL VERSION="-custom", it seems that the pkgrel number is important code..."unique" is the word used in the wiki.  Any number greater than the latest pkgrel number would be "unique".  I suspect that the number to be entered "has to be one greater than the latest pkgrel" and is not a "unique" number.
The custom kernel has the correct config change as desired included in the kernel loaded.
I am not able to utilize kernel2.6.12.2 after many fruitless hours in changing one config line in the kernel config.
I am unable to download via pacman -Syu and get a useable kernel.  The keyboard malfunctions.
I have no other ideas for the upgrade.  Custom kernel gave the same result thru ABS.
Frustration rules!

  • How to install OS on only C with USB media deployment

I have one hard drive with four partitions. The 1st one is OS.
There is an error shows "Unable to determine destination disk" with USB deployment.
And also the error comes out when there is a USB drive plug in during Network deployment.
But it works fine when there is no any USB drive plug in during Network deployment.
Anyone has a clue or a solution?
    Somebody help Me out?
    please

It appears that you are attempting to re-write major sections of MDT from scratch.
The LTIApply.wsf script is attempting to locate the correct partition. In a multi-disk and/or multi-partition scenario, this is difficult because LTIApply does not know by-itself where to find the partition. Instead it looks in some pre-defined variables
for hints on where to place the OS, hints placed by ZTIDiskPart.wsf and others.
In this case you have removed ZTIDiskPart.wsf so the variables are not present.
ZTIUtility.vbs --> GetOSTargetDriveLetterEx() is the function used to determine the target, and you can see what variables are queried there.
My recommendation is to use the default ZTIDiskPart.wsf script.

  • Boot camp with usb media

I have an .img file of Windows 7 that I downloaded from my university's software license. Disk Utility and Boot Camp assistant both failed to image my USB drive so I did it with terminal. However, when I go to install it, boot camp says that it can't find my windows install media. What do I need to do to install Windows from that img file?

Basically you may not have a supported model. Here's a link to a possible work around. You might try reading the whole post for different way's of doing it. There's like 5 pages so be patient. Some of the earlier Mac's can't boot via USB is one of the issues.
Make sure Lion is updated all the way as I believe Apple added the USB W7 installer option in 10.7.2?
Worse case scenerio you may have to just burn it to a disk, but it has to be done in a way that makes it bootable, simply dragging the files over doesn't work.

  • Would it be better to work with keeping media on internal PCIe Flash storage?

    Hello,
I've always been trained to keep media on a separate drive away from the boot disk when editing video. I'm using Final Cut Pro X and that's the way I've always worked, but I'm going to be getting the new Mac Pro with 1TB of the superfast PCIe-Flash internal storage and I'd really love to take advantage of that tremendous read/write speed.
My question: Would I be draining down the system's performance in keeping my 1080p Pro Res 422 media and FCPX projects on this new type of internal storage or would it still be better to keep my media on a slower external thunderbolt connected SATA hard drive?
Other tech specs of this new system: 8-core xeon E5 processor, 32GB Ram, dual FirePro D500 graphics.
    Thank you,
    Reynaldo

    (Drooling...)
I suppose the best way to find out is to try it.

    What does it means ?
How can I solve it ?
I tried to use both 5.0 and 1.4.2 compilers but the result is the same.

  • Using an External HD with USB 1.1 for Media (Movie files) storage?

    Many thanks for your attention.
For a Media Storage (mostly movies) HD, I ordered a Maxtor OneTouch II with Firewire and the company mistakenly sent me one with USB 1.1 instead.
I remember reading that for Media Storage, only the Firwire connection will work (for Macs). Or that there are a lot of problems with USB.
Before sending this HD back to company, just checking to see if this is so.
Also (when I get the correct Drive), I've heard that in order to store a Movie File, (a movie on Final Cut Pro or iMovie, etc.), the External Hard Drive MUST be formatted as a "Mac Extended (Journaled)" Hard Drive.
Posting here for people's thoughts, opinions (hopefully not contradictory).
    - Ross

    Send it back.
Even USB 2.0 isn't good for media. Fast transfer rate, but not a sustained one.
USB 1 won't work AT ALL.
    RETURN!

After downloading the new Oracle JDeveloper 10g production, migrating all my projects, everytime I try to make/rebuild any file or package, I get the following error:
Internal compilation error, terminated with a fatal exception
This happens if use either JAVAC or OJC.
    Regards,
    Yaniv Kunda

I think the error reporting is wrong, since dbMessages.java is a translated SQLJ file, and the specified method exists in the SQLJ file around that line number - and not in the java file resulting from the translation.
Note that line 2958, in the SQLJ file, was the simple MessageHeader.Iter messageHeaderIter; line.
The definition of this class, is in a SQLJ file, which content is:
    package telemessage.db.impl.iterators;

  • Compiler bug in 10.1.3 EA1?  get "Internal compilation error" with EnumSet

The code sample below generates "Error: Internal compilation error, terminated with a fatal exception" when doing make. It's a very simple example, it creates an EnumSet with one element and dumps it via the "toString()" method.
    If I change the line:
    "EnumSet set = EnumSet.of(Buttons.ONE);"
    To:
    "EnumSet set = EnumSet.allOf(c);"
It works fine. For some reason the "of" method of "EnumSet" crashes the compiler.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
I am getting the dreaded "Error: Internal compilation error, terminated with a fatal exception" build failure and cannot remedy. I've tried the various suggested fixes from previous posts regarding this compiler error. The file that the build fails on will compile with javac without errors. This error has occurred before with this same application. Restarting JDeveloper has worked in the past, but not this time.

Try switching your project compiler from ojc to the native one and see if there is a change in the results.

  • What are the downsides to working with Proxy Media?

My iMac is one of the more powerful ones:  i7, 2 internal drives (the main one is a 256 GB flash drive), ATI Radeon HD 5750 w/1 GB VRAM, 16 GB RAM.  But I notice that when I'm trying to apply multiple effects to a compound clip and then use crop to zoom on it, it starts dropping frames all over the place and barely plowing through.
I'm wondering if I should edit with proxy media.  I know one disadvantage is the amount of space it takes to have both proxy and regular media, but I have plenty of disk space.  I edit AVCHD footage that I optimize upon import.
I will also be doing a lot of multicam editing.
So I'm thinking proxy media is the way to go.  But I have to wonder what the disadvantages to using proxy media are.  For instance, since you're editing with a lower-quality version of the video, does that mean that when you do things like color correction you aren't getting a good a final result when you switch back to the regular media?
    I'd appreciate any advice/tips.

no, the color correction is done with the 'HDef' material.
proxies is just a pre-view thing; esp. when doing multicam, the amount of data shoveling from/to harddrive is enormously ... theoretically, even a fw800 connected super-fast Raid can handle only a max. of 10 HDef streams ...
I'm on consumer/hobbyist level - handling here 4 streams from usb-drives - as proxies, no problem.
when editing is done, you switch back to original/optimized and export in  shiny 100% ...

  • IPod nano works with USB 1.1 but not USB 2.0

Anyone using an iPod nano that works with USB 1.1 but not with USB 2.0? I am using Windows XP and when installing the iPod software from CD it recognizes the iPod and am able to transfer songs using iTunes but when installing SP1 or SP2 to enable USB 2.0 transfers, Windows XP only recognizes the iPod nano as a USB Mass Storage Device. This is the same with iPod Updater.

I have a similar problem with the following configuration:
    - Dell Dimension 4100 Desktop with 2 integrated USB 1.1 ports, Windows 2000 SP 4
    - PCI 6-Ports USB 2.0 Card ("Mentor" resp. www.bona.com.tw), Model USB20-PCI/6P
    What works well?
    - All my USB add-ons (1.1 and 2.0) on the internal 1.1 ports as well as on the USB2.0 PCI card
    - iPod Nano 4GB on internal 1.1 ports (external drive in windows 2000 as well as iPod in iTunes)
    - iPod Nano works as well as on the USB 2.0 card ONLY WHEN my old 4-port USB1.1 hub is connected between Nano and USB card
    What doesn't works?
My iPod Nano directly connected to the USB 2.0 card. Symptoms when connecting:
    - Windows is very slow, process "scvhost.exe" or "system.exe" using 99% of CPU for some minutes
    - iPod is recognised as external drive, but when I click on it, it is empty and copying files to it results in "I/O error"
    - iTunes doesn't recognise the iPod (of course, if even windows itself cannot read from it...)
I removed all USB drivers, reinstalled iTunes, iPod (by the way, I still don't understand what "iPod update" is good for, except for updating the iPod's firmware), deactivate the internal USB1.1 ports, no result.

Error: NFS3ERR_NOENT  -   This is by design of OneFS, we coalesce files and then flush them out to disk which is why the commit time is accurate but the file is not immediately available. however when an async option is used within the mount options this should be avoided if writing asynchronously to the cluster.  Has anyone else seen this behavior lately? (current workaround is to store locally and transfer to the cluster via Finder)

That error can happen for many reasons...one of the reasons that I occassionaly get it is because I try exporting a movie to an external drive that has been formated in the old FAT32 instead of the NTSF standard.  FAT32 only allows for file sizes up to 2 gigs.  And as soon as it reaches that...I would get that error.  I don't know if that is why you are getting that error...but it would be easy to check.  1) are you generating a file that is over 2 gigs?  2) is your drive that you are exporting to FAT 32 (just right click the drive in My Computer and select "properties" then just look for what it says next to "file system".
