Pl help me with the best way of coding this

Question

I have a procedure in which there is a varchar2 parameter passed ie p_job . I have to use this parameter in the where clause of the static query.
If the passing value is '*' then
IF p_job = '*' THEN
WHERE JOB IN ('MANAGER', 'CLERK', 'SALESMAN')
ELSE
WHERE JOB=p_job
How to write the query?

Where job = DECODE(p_job,'*','MANAGER','*','CLERK','*','SALESMAN',p_job) That would give you only the first value from the decode, not the IN list of values that the OP requires.
SQL> variable p_job varchar2(10)
SQL>
SQL> exec :p_job := '*' ;
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> select DECODE(:p_job,'*','MANAGER','*','CLERK','*','SALESMAN',:p_job) from dual ;
DECODE(:P_JOB,'*','MANAGER','*',
MANAGER
1 row selected.
