  • Using usb-1208fs to control a hydraulic directional valve

    Hi,
I am a PhD student, beginner in Labview. I am working on a project require controlling a hydraulic directional valve by using a USB-1208FS DAQ. I have an ultrasonic proximity sensor to sense the height differences of plants. The sensor output signal is analog voltage 0-10V, I managed to acquire signal from the sensor using the DAQ. I need to set different values of plants height depending on the sensor signal to actuate the hydraulic valve. The valve will control a hydraulic cylinder to move it up and down depending on the plants heights. I worked through a VI, but I don’t know how to generate two signals of 0-5V to operate the valve. For example, the range of plants height (0-6 inches) will switch ON one side of the valve to lower the cylinder down. The range of heights of (0-12 inches) will switch ON the other side of the valve to raise the cylinder up. Can anyone help me figure out how to do that. Thanks for your help!

    Hello Mazin,
The ULx driver comes with an analog output function. You can specify the channels the same way you specified the channels for the anolog input just in this case. The resource for this device is made with.NET so I am not sure how the resource is named but once you find out that convention you specify a group of lines by separating them by a colon (ex. AnalogInput ai0:1).

  • Usb -1208fs 8 channels continuous graph

Hi everyone! I'm working with an usb-1208fs (sinlge-ended mode, 8 channels, 2kS/s) and I want to visualize all 8 analog inputs in continuous mode. For that purpose I have changed the Xaincnbg.vi example from Universal Library to my case. It does work but not really good, because if I switch on one signal to the channel 1 I can see the signal in both windows Waveform Graph 1 and Waveform Graph 3 and vice versa. If I switch on two signals then I get visalized these signals superimposed each other.
What is wrong in my code?
I have been sitting on this problem for two days and I have no idea what is wrong.
I hope someone can help me.

    Hi uwlu,
I've taken a look at your code, but I cannot do much with it. You've only provided the main VI, but not the driver VI's. It would be usefull to share your complete project with us, so we can get a better understanding of all VI's you're using (which probably are driver VI's to your DAQ board).
Could you be a bit more specific on the problem you have and what the final result is you're expecting to see?

  • Satellite C660-108 does not boot if USB Bluetooth dongle connected

    Hiya,
I hope you would help me.
I am having an issue with my bluetooth dongle and satellite c660-108.
It works all perfectly. It connects devices via bluetooth and I can do everything I want.
But then when I am shutting down laptop and turning on again it won't go if the bluetooth dongle is still in the usb socket.
I see Toshiba screen and then it hangs with black screen and blinking cursor in top left corner.
I have to turn it off, take out the bluetooth dongle and then turn it on again.
And then windows starts. After that I have to put in bluetooth dongle again if I want to work with it.
It is not a huge issue but it is a bit annoying when I have to take out the bluetooth and put it back again to get the windows started.
I am currently running under win 8.1 but had it already with win 8.
    Anybody any ideas??

    >I see Toshiba screen and then it hangs with black screen and blinking cursor in top left corner.
Mostly the blinking cursor appears because the notebook cannot find an bootable device.
It looks like the unit cannot switch to the HDD while the USB dongle is connected.
I would recommend you checking the booting order in the BIOS.
Set the HDD at the first place and the USB as last possible booting device.
Save the changes and check if it helps.

  • Iomega USB Hard Drive won't appear on my desktop. Please help

Hi, I purchased an Iomega desktop hardrive about 3 months ago and all has been working well.
I had no problems working it with my MacBook Pro and backed up all my files easily. I now need to get some files from my Iomega hard drive, but now when I switch it on nothing appears on the desktop.
I have restarted my Mac and the hard drive several times and still nothing. I even tried using the USB cable that came with my printer in case the cable was faulty, but still nothing.
I have not used the Iomega hard drive for over a month, so am not sure if this may have something to do with it?
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance

OK… does the drive appear in Disk Utility else System Profiler? Also, if you are using bus power to run the drive try plugging it into AC. Another possilbility is to place a powered USB hub inbetween the drive and yur MBP as sometime this helps.

  • How to export usb controller custom assignment settings to another computer

    Hello everybody
is there any way to export Logic 9's USB controller assignments to another computer setup, to work with same controllers bought from a local music store, with even up to 7 usb controllers in one setup? This way, with a preference export file type of method, time would be saved lightyears by just choosing some "import settings file" function and *click*, every pot in those multiple controllers would do the intended function on the other system too.
    Example scenario,
computer 1)  MacBook + 7 different usb controllers wanted to by exported assignment-wise (2 x Behringer BCF2000 and 3 x BCR2000, Presonus Faderport and Novation Nocturn
computer 2)  MacBook Pro + 7 different usb controllers wanted to be exported assignment-wise (2 x Behringer BCF2000 and 3 x BCR2000, Presonus Faderport, Novation Nocturn + some other random USB controller in the chain also (wanted to be left outiside any assignment compromises)
I don't know what information of controller devices Logic saves into different files for recalling purposes, and how accurate device-identifying-wise the assignment files are, but how could I make "computer 2" controllers do the same fader/vpot/button functions as on "computer 1" using those same products over there, and still leave that existing extra eight'd controller on "computer 2" left as it is/was?
Ps. If there IS a file exportable for instant multi-controller configuring this scale, does the actual physical connecting order into USB hubs (all these devices could even by connected via single USB-hub cable into MacBook?) change the file's workability, I mean if I'd swap a few controllers into each other's places on the USB hub, would that smoke that preference file's workability whole together then?

  • The USB port on the new keyboards

    Hi,
I'd just like to have your opinion about the placement of the USB port on the new mac keyboard. I think it is a pity that they are so far away under the keyboard. It makes them difficult to access. Besides, what if your USB device is a bit large. You cannot plug it in for pure physical reasons.
Another mistake from apple? What do you think?

    dwb wrote:
But I could counter that my wife likes the way the USB port is recessed because her thumb drive fits perfectly doesn't protrude from the keyboard unlike with other keyboards. Since getting this keyboard she hasn't knocked her thumb drive lose and hasn't set her drink on it. And let's be serious - how difficult is it to lift up the keyboard to plug in a device? How onerous is it to buy a little extender if you do find lifting the keyboard such a time wasting task? Okay, I'll tone down the sarcasm
Thanks. Point is, it adds an extra step. Macs should be more user friendly. No, it is not hard to lift the keyboard, but why should we have to when before you just saw the port and attached away?
If you want to complain about design decisions, let's ask a few questions that might be more serious? Why is the power button hidden on back in stead of conveniently in front? Why isn't there at least a visual cue telling is where to insert a disc? Why isn't there a way to vertically adjust the display? Why are all the ports on back? Wouldn't it be convenient to have at least one USB port in front? Where is the little LED that pulses to let us know the computer is asleep?
Well, this thread wasn't directed at the new iMac's other design quirks, but since you bring it up.
    1) Yes, that power button in the back left me scratching my head. I'm used to it now, but it is another good example of form over function.
    2) I insterted a disc backwards the first time, silly me.
    3) It is so big, why do you need to vertically adjust it?
    4) Ports on the front would make things easier, yet. And you wouldn't have to lift the keyboard But it would interfere with the clean appearance.
    5) I miss that LED too....

  • Can i use a usb-lightning cable instead of usb-usb to scan

i lost my usb-usb male cable. looking on the internet to replace it i can only find usb-lightning cables, but they are designated for ipad, ipod, iphone. i have a wifi printer but need a usb cable in order to scan.
alternatively can i use a generic usb cable in its place?

A USB-USB male cable is a generic USB cable. You cannot use a cable intended for an iDevice.

  • How do I put my home folder on a USB hard drive?

Hello everyone. I'd like to store my home folder on a portable USB2 hard drive so that I can carry it between work and home. Does anyone know how to set up MacOS X (Leopard) so that it stores the Users folder on an external drive? I know it's possible. I'm not interested in a syncing solution. I want OS X to look for home directories on my USB drive.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -Rob

In Tiger it was possible to mount a different partition/disk over the /Users directory by using the LABEL=disklabel in /etc/fstab and netinfo database. I found this not working anymore. I had to mount my second /Users partition explicitly by giving the disk device in the /etc/fstab. So, this won't work for you as you don't know which disk your USB drive is, I guess.
What remains would be to set the home directory of a particular user to a place on the USB drive. This must be done for every user you would like, one by one. I'm not sure this is fine for you, but anyhow it can be done by the directory service command line tool which replaces the netinfo service.
    Start a Terminal and type
dscl . -read /Users/<short name of user> NFSHomeDirectory
will return you the home directory. To change it
sudo dscl . -create /Users/<short name of user> NFSHomeDirectory /path-to-your-USB-home-directory.
Try it without deleting your actual home directory (so you can change it back . What is unclear to me is what happens when the user logs in and the drive is not connected. You should definitely try such things out. A further thing to think about is SENSITIVE data. Be cautious on what you're carrying around on your USB drive! On a laptop I would install FileVault but I'm not sure this works well from an USB drive. Remember a USB drive is ways slower...
    Good luck,

Yes, I got the slide it open trick on day one. This is a stress crack from a combination of inserting the charger plug and closing the USB door when finished. The shell is too thin and can't take it - poor design & materials.  This is an issue Palm should address without forcing us to pay a $100 deductible for a refurb that will develop the same crack eventually.  There is enough flex in the shell material that the crack is destined to spread to the screen.  This is a design & build quality problem - not something to blame on the users.  Believe me, as I've stated elsewhere, I baby this phone because I'm sure it will take no abuse without falling apart.
BTW - A pic of my phone is in the thread with the other similar USB door cracks. Notice the cracks all eminate from exactly the same place. (Pre - USB Door Cracks - Pre Central Poll)
No offense, PDAGuy, but we users are a little too educated on the shortcomings of the Pre after living with it for months.  It's time Palm took responsibility for design issues (a la Toyota) and fix the things that should be corrected.

  • Printers -- USB- Bluetooth

Most of the questions on this forum regarding using bluetooth in place of a USB cable for printers are unresolved.
As far as I can tell, this is not possible unless the printer driver supports a Bluetooth port, and not many Macintosh printer drivers do, if any.
I've seen Bluetooth transmitters that plug right into USB ports, but the advertisements seem to suggest that these don't work on Apple machines. Correct?
Are some printer manufacturers now including Bluetooth ports in their drivers, or retrofitting drivers for recent machines for Bluetooth?
(Personally, I have a new non-networkable Brother laser printer model MFC-7420. I need to put it on the other side of the room, but I think it's too far for a USB cable. In retrospect, I wish I'd gotten the networkable model. I could string an ethernet cable over there.)
Has anyone written a hack that will make it possible to make a non-bluetooth-enabled printer driver work with bluetooth, by making the bluetooth port emulate a USB port? Seems like that would be possible, but I'm no expert.
Is there another way to do what I want to do? Infrared, maybe?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim

  • Getting Windows 7 on the Mid 2011 MacBook Air EASILY *TESTED*

    Greetings!
As this is my first post, I wanted to make it count. Thus I have decided to compile a simple guide on EASILY getting Windows 7 installed on to your mid-2011 MacBook Air.
I have been following the many threads around here regarding the trouble people are having getting Windows 7 installed on to their Mid-2011 MacBook Air's. I have read complaints of Windows Support Software (drivers) downloads taking too long, of not being able to save the Windows Support Software correctly to a USB key, etc, etc.
The following process is relatively simple, but not as simple as it should be. I'm quite certain as Lion matures, some of the Bootcamp issues we have been having will be remediated.
This procedure has been tested on the following platform:
    Mid-2011 11" MacBook Air ~ 1.6GHz i5, 4GB RAM, 128GB Flash (SSD) HDD
    What's Wrong?:
    1. On the MacBook Air platform specifically, users are expected to have a Windows 7 ISO before beginning. Some users have stated that this can be accomplished easily using the DISK UTILITY ISO CREATION FEATURE. THIS WILL NOT WORK. THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF PUTTING THE WINDOWS 7 ISO ONTO A USB KEY IS MAKING IT BOOTABLE! You need to make the USB key you're installing to bootable, plain and simple.
    2. I tested the Windows Support Software drivers after downloading them and the Intel HD3000 GPU and Sound Drivers do not install properly.
    3. Creating a Windows 7 Startup Disk through Bootcamp hangs.
    What You'll Need:
    1. A Windozzze box
    2. A DVD-ROM Drive
    3. Internet Access (for downloading a Win7 ISO in case you don't have a Win7 install DVD and other necessary utilities)
    4. ISODisk - http://www.isodisk.com/ - 100% FREE
    5. Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool - http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.h tml- 100% FREE (you may also acquire this tool from Microshaft)
    6. A little patience
    7. A LEGAL Windows 7 license to activate Windows 7 after 30 days.
    8. 2 FORMATTED USB DRIVES.
NOTE: Technically you only need 1 USB drive, however, you will need to get the Bootcamp drivers from OS X onto a USB key. To make this easy, the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool will format one drive as an NTFS partition and the other drive should be formatted as a simple MS-FAT partition (can do this through DISK UTILITY, if you don't know how, Google it, very simple).
    Let's Get'r Done:
    1. Boot up your Windoze box.
    2. Insert your Windows 7 Install DVD into your DVD-ROM.
    3. (OPTIONAL) This step may be performed in lieu of step #2 if you don't have a Windows 7 Install DVD, download a Windows 7 ISO (don't download illegaly) from Microsoft. You may skip to step #6 if this is how you're to proceed.
    4. Download and install ISODisk.
    5. Create an ISO of your Windows 7 Install DVD - Select the DVD within the ISODisk app, choose a name and save location, create your ISO. *This takes a bit to complete*.
    6. Download and install the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
    7. Open the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, ensure you have inserted the USB key you intend to use for Windoze 7, once the ISO has been created from step #5 or you already have one from step #2, select the USB button and create your USB/Windows 7 ISO Disk (all this does is place the necessary Windows 7 boot files on the USB key so that the Windows 7 ISO may be booted from the USB key).
    8. Once complete, safely eject your Windows 7 USB key and move on over to your beautiful Mac. Place the Windows 7 USB Key aside for the time being.
    9. Once booted, place the second USB key (the USB key you intend to use for your Bootcamp drivers) into your beautiful Mac. Ensure that it's formatted as MS-FAT, you can do this via DISK UTILITY, Google it if you don't know how.
    10. Navigate to Mac HD --> Library --> Application Support --> Bootcamp --> Here you will find a BootCamp DMG file, this is a large file that contains the necessary Windoze 7 Drivers for the MacBook Air, DOUBLE-CLICK IT TO MOUNT IT, a FINDER window will appear revealing its contents. Perform a Shift-A to select all files, RIGHT-CLICK and select COPY.
    11. DOUBLE-CLICK your MS-FAT USB key, PASTE the files from step #10 onto the drive. You now have your Windows 7 Driver disk. Place the Bootcamp Drivers USB Key aside for the time being.
    12. Open the BOOTCAMP ASSISTANT, this is located in your Mac HD --> Applications --> Utilties Folder.
    13. IMPORTANT!!!
Uncheck "CREATE A WINDOWS 7 INSTALL DISK"
Uncheck "DOWNLOAD THE LATEST WINDOWS SUPPORT SOFTWARE FROM APPLE" - At least for now to get you up and running.
    14. Ensure that "INSTALL WINDOWS 7" is SELECTED and click continue.
    15. Insert your Windows 7 ISO USB Key into your beautiful Mac.
    16. Partition your drive accordingly, create the Windows 7 partition (the Windows 7 USB Key needs to be in the Air for this).
    17. As soon as the partition is created, your air WILL REBOOT, the Windows 7 install will begin.
    18. You will be prompted that the BOOTCAMP parition is not NTFS and needs to be in order to install Windows 7, THIS IS FINE.
    19. Click FORMAT, the BOOTCAMP partition will be formatted as NTFS. Select the same partition number and continue. NOTE: The Windows install IS VERY fast on your beautiful SSD equipped Mac.
    20. Once the installation completes, insert your USB Bootcamp key.
    21. Navigate to the Setup.exe file on the key and double-click.
    22. Sitback and let the Bootcamp drivers load. Windows 7 will reboot.
    23. Install your Windows updates and reboot.
    24. Reboot again and HOLD THE OPTION KEY, this will allow you to get back into your Mac.
    25. Once in OS X, click settings and STARTUP DISK, select OS X (unless you want to mainly run Windoze).
    26. Finished.
Please let me know if you should have any questions.
You should now have a fully functioning Windows 7 Bootcamp install with all drivers properly installed. You can check this by navigating to Device Manager within Windows and ensuring that you have no yellow exclamation marks.

Sorry, must have been the crackpipe I smoked last night! LOL
You won't see anything in the Application Support --> Bootcamp folder unless you have previously downloaded the Windows Support Software. Good find.
    ADDENDUM STEP:
This step should be placed between 9-10.
Open Bootcamp Assistant. Uncheck everything BUT, "DOWNLOAD THE LATEST WINDOWS SUPPORT SOFTWARE FROM APPLE". You will be prompted to burn the image to a CD/DVD or save to a USB Key. Save the image to a USB key. This will format your USB key properly in preparation for the files. The download commences and if you're lucky, the files will simply be saved to your USB key without having to manually copy them over to the key using the steps above.
IMPORTANT - Even if the support software hangs when its being saved to the USB key, you should now be able to navigate to the directory and see the image. Follow the steps above.
    Apologies for missing this.
    Best,
    WBN
