Place a widget in the Dock?

Hi again!
Another question popped into my head after installing and testing a very useful widget called DeepSleep; it lets you do what you might expect, i.e. put your Mac in hibernation, but I'd like to access it directly from the Dock, without having to conjure Dashboard up first. How can that be done? I've tried to drag and drop the widget to the Dock, but as you can imagine, it didn't work...

Sorry for the false joy, people! Thought I had it covered, but I just thought about something: how can I assign a keyboard shortcut to this specific widget? I tried to locate it, but couldn't find it anywhere. I thought Spotlight would help me find it, but the only .wdgt files it found were all in the Developer Tools folder/directory, so...

  • Turning off the Widgets in the dock

    Hi,
I want to turn off my widgets in the dock to save memory. Is this possible?
    Thanks

    Hi, WA.
This answer depends on what you mean by "the dock." I'm assuming the Dock, since you stated "dock" not the Widget Bar.
Given that, I read your question to mean that you want to use the Dashboard icon in the Dock to close a Widget, similar to how one can switch to an open window in a given application from that application's Dock icon, or Quit/Hide an application from its Dock icon. Correct?
If that's the case, then the answer is no: you have to open Dashboard to close a widget.
You don't need to disable widgets as JDee suggested in order to close them and save the RAM and VM they are using. If there's a widget open on the Dashboard and you no longer want it active, simply close it:
    1. Open Dashboard.
    2. Either:• Click the in the lower-left corner of Dashboard. Click the (X) in the upper-left corner of each widget you want to close. Close Dashboard.
    • Press and hold the Option key, then mouse over a Widget you want to close. Click the (X) in the Widget's upper-left corner and it will close. Mouse over and close additional widgets as desired. Release the Option key. Close Dashboard. If you use the Widget Manager (Widgets widget) as JDee suggested, then you are removing the widget from the Widget Bar, meaning you'll have to enable the widget in the Widget Manager before you can use that widget again in the future.
Widgets only consume RAM and VM when they are on the Dashboard. They consume neither RAM nor VM simply by being in the Widget Bar: that simply lists installed widgets which are available to be placed on the Dashboard (activated).
    Good luck!

  • Dashboard not loading widgets + Crashing the Dock

I updated to Leopard yesterday, and today my dashboard stopped working. I can bring it up on my screen, but none of the widgets load - its just their blank skins. I can add more widgets, but they do not load. Also, when I try to close a widget the dashboard+dock just crash. What is going on here?
    Please help?

From what you write here, there seem to be other issues involved. I am not sure if the applications were in reality deleted (perhaps moved?) but there will be no gain in disk space until the Trash is emptied.
You are clearly au fait with the OS (not everyone would be looking inside packets or playing around in Terminal), so I am sure that you are able to make more checks than I could suggest. I know that there have been problems with renaming of Home folders, or accounts losing admin privileges and would tend to agree that there comes a time, when a clean start might be more useful than pulling one's hair out and shouting at the kids or kicking the dog.
The way to get the applications back is to use the packages on the install disks; the way to make sure is to start again and since my Archive and Install (or the erase and install on the eMac -- again my fault) everything has been smooth.

  • The dock disappears.

I have all the settings set for my Dock to stay visible at all times. However, unless I roll over the dock location, it is not visible. I'm not sure what's going on. It started last night but I haven't changed anything. I've checked the settings for Dock Visibility in three different places; they all say the dock should be showing. Help?...

I checked this out, rebuilding the cache using OnyX, but it says "REQUIREMENTS Intel, Mac OS X 10.7 or later". See above.
Is there anything else that doe the same for the 10.6.8?

  • Is there a way to place the Dock on the bottom of a secondary monitor?

I use my iMac as primary monitor and a secondary display on the right. Is there a way to place the dock on the bottom of the secondary monitor(in a way that the display arrangment actually match the monitor position on my desk)?
I want something like this, with the red marker as the dock(the display arrangment match how the monitors are in my desk):
The solution I'm working with is:
I could turn the monitor attached to the iMac as primary(and set the dock there), but I got some problems with programs opening in wrong positions all the time and some issues with full screen programs as well(also I think the iMac didn't handle well setting the primary display in another monitor).
If there isn't a way to do it in Mountain Lion, will Maverick do any better?

Don't know of a way to get the Dock on the top.
But, to keep it out of the way but available, in the Dock prefs pane in System Preferences you can set it to "automatically hide and show". Choosing that setting means the Dock will normally be hidden; to gain access to it, all you need do is brush the bottom of the screen (or the side you have Doc set to) with the cursor, and it will appear, staying visible only until you move the cursor away.
You can also use the keyboard combo Command-Option-D to invoke/revoke Dock Hiding, which in effect means you can use that keyboard command to toggle the Dock's visibility.

  • How do I get my widgets icon back on the dock?

Help. All of a sudden my icon for widgets (speedometer) disappeared from the dock. I can still get to it by pressing F12 but I can't find a way to get it back on the dock. Does anyone have a solution?

    Ron,
What happens if you enter Dashboard in Spotlight?
If you do not find the Dashboard.app with Spotlight it is most likely gone, but you could get Pacifist and extract Dashboard from your Tiger Installation disk.

  • How do I remove an icon from the dock of an iMac 10.9.5.?  Dragging doesn't work although I have tried a number of different places.  I recall right clicking used to give me a remove option.

How do I remove an icon from the dock of an iMac Maverick, 10.9.5?  I've tried dragging different places: desktop, finder list etc.  No luck.

Drag up towards the centre of the screen & hold for a second or so. The icon will have the 'smoke cloud' appear, let go & it will be removed.
There should also be a 'Remove from Dock' option in the popup menu. It is in the 'Options' section . ctrl+click will 'right click' if right clicking is disabled.
If this is not possible the Dock is locked (this may happen on a 'Managed Mac' normally setup by a company or school etc). See your tech support in this case.

  • Is there a way to place the Dock on the top?

    Hi there,
Back in the days of 10.4, "defaults write com.apple.Dock orientation top" (in Terminal) or Onyx for that matter, were able to place the Dock on the top.  Is there a way to accomplish this in Snow Leopard?  Because of my workstyle, the Dock gets in the way quite frequently.  Besides, I use 3rd party app launchers.
Many thanks for your feedback and have a good one,
    Jacobo

  • I just took over an iPod Touch 3rd. generation, 32GB and when I place it in my Philips docking station to play music, I get a message that " this equipment does not support charging". My question is: Is this an iPod sw or hw issue or is it the dock?

The Philips device is a DCM5090/10 Tower and it should support charging iPod Touch. Any suggestions??

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Make sure the iPod is fully seated in the dock
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Does Phillips say it is compatible with your model iPod and it iOS. Sometimes an iOS update will break compatibility
    - Sometimes this works
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Working with Social Panel (YouTube).  I am having trouble after I place the widget on the page, I cannot change the options in the pull down menu. As soon as I click on the option to enter a URL the option panel closes before I can place the text

Any Ideas as to what I am neglecting to do or should do?

I bring up a page that has some formatting on it
I click on Social Widgets or Slide Show Widget and bring the widget over to the page.
I then click on the arrow at the side of the widget on the page to bring up an options dialog.
As soon as I click on one of the selections the entire pull down menu of options disappears.
I've been using Muse since the very beginning of the Creative Cloud offering.    As soon as Muse was updated to 2014 I started having this problem.
None of the other applications such as Dreamweaver seems to have any of these bugs.
I have contacted Adobe and been through two sessions of deleting Muse and reinstalling it.
I have had an Adobe Tech mirror the system and as soon as I went back into Muse the problem persisted.
I am at the point of stopping the use of Muse entirely and moving the websites that I have in Creative Cloud that were created with Muse moved to another server.
