Place CC PSD file in to InDesign

I have been trying out CC this afternoon and came to a problem when I try to place a PSD file saved from Photoshop CC in to InDesign. I have both InDesign CS6 and CC installed and the same issue occurs with both, so I think it is a problem with the PSD file. Compatability mode is ON.
When I try to place a JPG or PSD file from previous photoshop versions it works as normal.
The actual issue is that sometimes the object frame just appears as a purple box and other times it won't place in to the document at all... anyone else experiencing similar problems.
Running on OS X 10.8.4

Hi Willi,
I just did a few more tests today and it seems that the problem is actually with my image file - it seems to be corrupted. It was a an iStock jpeg file which I did some changes to in Photoshop and saved as PSD.
When I did the same things using PS CS6 and then tried to place in to InDesign I got the same problems...
I use Photoshop and InDesign almost every day and rarely get such problems - so when it happened yesterday after upgrading to CC I immediately jumped to the wrong conclusion!
Thanks for your willingness to help anyway
Steve

  • Cannot place photoshop PSD file

When I try to place a PSD file into Muse I get the following message:
    Cannot place file named 'logo.psd'.
Image was saved with Compatibility Mode turned off. Try re-saving in Photoshop with Compatibility Mode enabled before importing.
I'm using a fresh install of Photoshop CS5 with latest updates. When I save my file I get the compatibility mode confirmation box and the option is checked to enable compatibility mode. This happens in 32 and 64 bit versions. If I create a new image and save it I seem to be able to place it in Muse, the problem seems to only be with PSD files originally created on another computer.

    Bearfaced,
Not sure how to fix this exact issue, but as a workaround you could always:
    Open the .psd in Photoshop
Save as another file type (i.e .png)
Within Muse, File, place the .png
Should give the same result unless I'm missing something, hope this helps

I placed a psd file with transparent background on another layer in my InDesign document. The layer below has a color (RGB). When the psd file is placed it changes the color on the layer below. I've tried other psd files thinking something is wrong with my file, but get the same result. I have tried for days to figure this out. Can anyone help me?

Wow, thank you! That was fast. I googled that question to death and even bought (another) book on CS5 and never saw that answer. Thank you so much. You made a very good ending to my day! I'd buy you a beer if I could!!

  • Placing smaller PSD file to large InDesign file

    Hello folks,
I just want to make sure I'm doing this right before I commit to a printer.
I have a high resolution Photoshop file that's about 10 MB, the width is only about 11 inches in the photoshop file.
I need a banner that is 120 inches wide.  When I place the file in InDesign and stretch it to the size I need it...it looks fine in InDesign but the file size is less than 1 MB.  I just find that hard to believe, so I'm just making sure that this is the correct procedure in making a large banner from a PSD file.
    Thank you!

Yup. Upsampling in Photoshop depends on interpolation and manufacturing pixels from thin air, and that's what you get.
I guess I just need to know how peopel take small images and put them up on a huge banner and have it look great.  That might get me the answer I need to do this properly.
They start with a larger image to begin with.

  • Unable to place Photoshop psd file in Illustrator CS3

    Hi,
    Can someone help please???
I am unable to place a Photoshop PSD file in Illustrator and be able to print the document correctly. The Illustrator file is saved as a ai file, both the document & PSD file are CMYK.
On screen the document looks fine but as soon as I have printed the document, some of file has not printed.
Do I need to have the Illustrator file as a eps file?
I used to use an old Photoshop version that had a Export Image option, which was great for something like this, but CS3 doesn't have this option.
Has anybody got any ideas what I am doing wrong?

This seems to be an Illy problem, not Photoshop. You might want to check
with the gurus there, but perhaps a few details, like what printer
you're using and a few screenshots might help.

  • My PSD file is larger when placed in InDesign both documents are the same dimensions.

My 300dpi PSD file and InDesign CC file are the same dimensions (14.625 x 11)...
I have drawn guides in both files in the same place but when I place the PSD file the image appears larger and the guides do not align even though InDesign indicates that the PSD file is placed at 100%.

Did you double check that both the holding frame and the image are at 100%? It's possible to have a scaled frame with the image at 100% like this:

  • Help! While editing a photo in CS3 the program shut down and will not reopen my psd file.

Help! While editing a photo in CS3 the program shut down and will not reopen my psd file. The error message reads "cannot complete your request because of a program error" -- it is a very large file (I have been saving it all along) and I had just "flattened layers" and went to open up a new, blank photo file when it shut down. Is there anyway to get this file to open? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! (p.s. after reading a couple of similar threads, I have a feeling it's hopeless. But I'd also like to know WHY this might have happened!) Thanks in advance!

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and for sharing the article--I did panic. Here are the details of my system:
    Model: HP p7-1247c
Processor: AMD A8-3820 APU with Radeon HD Graphics
Installed Memory: 8 GB (7.48 usable)
    System Type: 64-bit
    Windows 7 Home Premium
I am using Photoshop CS3. It seems that I can work on photos and save them. But I am unable to open them back up. I have tried saving the files as psd and tiff with the same result. The error message is:  "cannot complete your request because of a program error"
The interesting thing is that I can open up InDesign and "place" the psd file within InDesign (then export and save as a jpeg). So I don't think the files are necessarily corrupted. I uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it last night, but there's no change.
If you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Or, should I repost my question with this more complete info? Thank you!

  • Add layers from other psd file via action/batch (Or possibly script)

    Hi
Brand new to this forum. Quick intro: Eivind from Norway, 32, Photographer, Nikon D300, CS5
I have tried to make a action where i open 2 files, duplicate the layers from file2 to file1 and it works fine.
But running the action as a batch i get in trouble, the action saves the from and to filenames when i duplicate the layers.
Then i found the place function (File - Place..) but i ran in to trouble here also. When i place a psd file containing the layers it becomes smart objects and i can't edit the text layers directly.
Background: I have a script that copys info from the filename to specific labeled text layers in photoshop. (Name_Age_Title.jpg) so i can batch process lots of files and add info boxes from the filename (Fantastic) Only problem is the i want to make lots of different layouts, logos, fonts. And no i have to adjust the action for every change. Would have been perfect to just have a action/batch/script opening the file, adding the layers from a template1.psd file, running the script adding text to the text layers and saving.
    Any ideas?
    Eivind

    No comments on this one?
Maybe i have to do the scriping way, any ideas?

  • Unable to link psd files in Illustrator CC

    Hello,
When I place a psd file in Illustrator, I am not able to check the "link" box and it automatically embeds the image. I don't know if there is something else I need to do to make the box checkable, but I need to be able to link the images.
    Thank you.

    Hi,,
Same here. I use to be able to read the files but now Im unable to read it.
The Illustrator would open and prompt a dialogue box saying file cannot be read, and closed immediately.
    Appreciate any help.
    Thank you.

  • Help Importing a PSD File

I have a video that was originally done some time ago on miniDV tapes. I converted to digital and am attempting to place a PSD file at the beginning, sort of like a Title Page. It has a jpg image of a young lady and some text, which looks great in PS and also in the Preview Pane, but when you run the video, even after rendering, the picture and the text are blurred.
I also tried adding a Title Page and still got the same effect, although it does not appear to be as bad.
Could it have to do with the output settings?
    Thanks in advance.
    --Ben

Since you're using DV, your sequence is likely interlaced. The PSD, on the other hand, is progressive--or more specifically, has no field order. When you put a non-interlaced piece of media into an interlaced sequence, it's automatically (and unavoidably) interlaced.
Simultaneously, you're probably gauging this by looking at your computer monitor--a progressive display. When you render the sequence, assuming your preview codec is set up to DV, your rendered previews are also interlaced. Displaying interlaced video on a progressive display will usually result in the appearance of interlacing artifacts that may or may not be an issue once it comes time to export. It's not an issue if you're encoding to an interlaced output and displaying on an interlaced device. It's sort of an issue if you're encoding to a progressive output and displaying on a progressive device--but not too big of an issue since Premiere Pro will automatically deinterlace on export. The quality of that is determined by whether you're using hardware MPE or the Maximum Render Quality option on export.
How much this is an issue really depends on what your intended output for the finished video is.

  • I request capability to add either LINKED or embedded graphics to Muse (either AI or PSD files)

I notice there is no way to place a linked PhotoShop (PSD) file in Muse.   In comparison, PhotoShop now has the capability of placing both embedded and/or linked files (including AI files) within PSD files.  I am request this feature in Muse as well.  Ultimately I would love to place either embedded or linke vector (AI) files in Muse, but the best I can do for now is place a PSD file which is linked to an AI file, into Muse.  I was hoping to be able to make changes to the original AI file which would automatically update the PSD file to which it is linked which in turn would update the PSD file placed onto my Muse page, but it did not work.  It does not appear to work because the placed PSD file (onto the Muse page) is embedded into the Muse page, and there no longer is any kind of link between the original PSD file and the version placed on the Muse page.  Help me Adobe, I can't believe what I am asking would be difficult to pull off, and you already offer this feature in PhotoShop.  The capability I am requesting would greatly enhance the power and elagance of the Muse program.  By the way, I believe Muse is a fantastic product, and just what I have been waiting for for the last several years.

Yeah, I know that changing the mode results in different colors. I just switched back and forth to check out what's going on.
For CMYK I'm using ECI profiles which are common in Europe and for RGB the normal Adobe RGB 1998 profile. The profiles are synced between all Creative Suite products. I tried sRGB and some of the default profiles which shipped with CS5 but it produces the same result. I also deleted my whole Illustrator profile but without success.
My graphics card doesn't have any updates. But it would be very unlikely anyway that both drivers for both cards had the same issue. If it has something to do with my graphics cards it's more likely the switchable graphics in general.

  • Colour shift when placing PSD files into illustrator

    Hi there
I have tested this issue on CS 3,4 and 5.
bascially if I create a CMYK document with a colour image and save this down as a psd file with the coated Fogra 39 embedded in it. If I create a new file within Illustrator with the same colur management and place the psd file into the document and check the link option (so it is a linked file), the colour shifts when using the colour picker. If I print the document from each APP they visually look different as well.
If I place the psd into illustrator without selecting the link option the colour has the same CMYK values as the psd within Photoshop and also prints correctly.
i can only assume that there is an option somewhere in regards to the "link" option and how this changes tha colour values somewhere? If not is there anyway I can get around this issue so I can use linked files without the CMYK values changing?
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

    Hi guys
    Thanks for the responses.
I use bridge to blanket the colour settings so this i feel this is not the issue here. If you have a moment and would kindly create a colour tint within PS of what ever colour, save this down as any format and place this into illustrator with the link checkbox checked you will see the colour data has physically changed for the CMYK values. This results in the prints looking different as well. If you deselct the link check box when placing the file the CMYK values are the same.
I tried the overprint preview option. This changes the viewable colour on screen but not the CMYK data of the file.
There seems to be a fundamental floor with this link option for some reason.
I might have phone Adobe direct for this iisue as I cannot find a fix for this.
    Many thanks
    Paul

  • How do I import a PSD file into AI?

How do I import a PSD file into AI?

Place the PSD (File menu) if you are bringing it into an existing AI document, or simply choose to Open it if you are going to use the document size from the PSD file and simply add to it.

  • .psd files over 500mb will not place unless saved at "maximum compatability"

I am trying to use InDesign in place of a software RIP in order to print art reproductions on a large format printer. I need to print the same image at different sizes and be able to pull them up and print rapidly. InDesign is faster at printing than Photoshop since the files load so quickly and I can change the print size very quickly vs. photoshop.
My print files vary from 250mb to 800mb as these are very large fine art reproductions. I am not in the habbit of saving my .psd files with the "maximize file compatibility" flag in order to save on disk space. Files under approx. .5gb will place into InDesign CS2 fine despite this with a warning that performance will suffer but once I get into 600mb files it shows up a small black box with several white pixels in it instead of the image and no matter how much I zoom I cannot read what is apparantly written in the box. No other warning is given and when I try to print the same black box is output to the printer.
    see the image here:
    http://www.schoellerfineart.com/adobe-error.GIF
If I use a 600+mb file with maximized compatability on it will display and print fine. Is there a way to avoid maximizing file compatability on these larger files other than flattening the image? I need to be able to adjust color/densities frequently on these images but saving 2 versions will eat up disk space real fast and takes quite some time to do.
    Best, Tim
