Place graphic in frame

Hello all.
To date I have simply placed items straight into indesign, resized as required and off I go.
However I have now created an advanced shadow effect in photoshop which I want to use with all graphics I import.
So I have created a library item with this shadow on the back and a rectangle frame over the top, I have told the frame to fit content to it.
Here is where I am getting confused I think. I now select this frame then hit 'place' but it does not fit to content or anything, it totally replaces the frame. If on import I tell it not too replace,  it presents the traditional little graphic on the pointer ready for placing.
So in essence how do I place the graphic into that frame to fit?
I have tried google searching but many of the answers although in google to start with when clicked goto an adobe archieve page with no evidence of the google find.

When you move the cursor over an empty frame it should change to show the corner of the icon in parentheses (you have to look pretty carefully to see it for images) which indicates that the image will be placed into the frame.
Do you perhaps have some other object on the document page, an empty text frame perhaps, that is in front of the image frame?

  • Why the placement of repeating frame hide he record of other fields ?

    Hello,
    After creating a data group in Data Model, I place a repeating frame corresponding it the group created.
    But In the presentation of the report, There is records in first line and after space, no records of other columns only data for the column grouped is seen. And too the reality number of pages has increased.
    Why this fact is occured ?
    How to avoid this ?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards.

    Try 2 select the repeating frame by selecting one of the fields in ur group layout then
    e.g
    F_BANK_NAME then select it's parent frame > will select the repeating and adjust it.

  • Illustrator CC 2014 randomly loses ability to link/relink/place graphics

    I am helping troubleshoot a client that is having issues with Illustrator on her Mac (note: i am not an illustrator person, i am just assisting in troubleshooting)
    After opening certain .ai files, she is able to link/relink/place graphics several times with no issues, and then after a few times (ranges between 2-10 times), "Place" or "Re-link" stops bringing up the browse window again.
    On another file, one where the existing linked graphics (qty 5) were renamed, it asks to relink the first two and pops up the browse window, but on the third one, as soon as we click relink, it doesn't popup browse window, but opens the file with the remaining 3 graphics not showing up.  We can then try place/relink/etc and nothing happens.
    I have attempted uninstall/reinstall including removing the plugins folders and .plist files, removing recently-added fonts, clearing the font cache, disabling plugins, disabling extensions, but nothing appears to fix it.  Install is being run over creative cloud, which is configure to keep the app up-to-date, so my suspicion is that a recent OS X or CC update caused the issue, however the user couldn't pinpoint to me how long its been going on.  OS X is yosemite and is up to date.

    I cannot remember offhand, i do think it is.. however it does come up several times within an instance of the app being open, and then just stops.  I will check and give "list" a try when I can.

    This is my first post.  I hope it is in the right place.  Please tell me if it isn't.
    Using the graphics menu, I want to install a frame around my picture.  In the frames menu there are no thumbnails.  I get boxes that say "Frames" with a number such has "Frames 1."  When I click on the box, I get a message that says "Could not complete your request  because the file was not a valid frame file."  I have been able to select frames for pictures in the past and I don't know what happened.

  • Automatic place graphic below a paragraph style

    Is it possible in Indesign CS4 to place automatic a graphic below or above a paragraph style when you apply the paragraph style to a paragraph?
    In Framemaker it is possible, because they use "Reference pages" and in the the window to design a paragraph style, you can select which item on the reference page must automatic added below or above that style.
    I'm new for Indesign and I would like to know how to solve this problem. Any suggestions?

    jessevic wrote:
    That would be the most possible acceptable solution Peter!
    In Framemaker is this also the solution, but I thought there would be a better solution.
    In Frame, I created also a tabel with 2 columns and 1 row, in Indesign I will create a table with 2 columns and 2 rows.
    I hope it is possible to create a table-style where the illustration is already inserted.
    In ID, if you prefer, you can create a one-row two-column table, then split the left cell horizontally (Table > Split Cell Horizontally), paste the graphic in the bottom part of the split cell, and the text in the upper, then adjust sizes.
    If you want the developers to consider adding the ability to attach a container above/below a paragraph style to ID, post a formal request at:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
    DTP Tools' cross-reference plug-in for ID has a feature that you may want to investigate; the inserted cross-reference can define a cross-reference format that displays the reference source text according to the language property at the insertion point.
    EDIT: Contact for this plug-in is at www.dtptools.com.
    For example, if your cross-reference source text is "Note:", you can define the cross-reference format to display it as "Nota:" if the surrounding language at the insertion point is Italian, "Aviso:" if it's Spanish, "Achtung:" if it's German, etc. (DISCLAIMER: I'm only guessing at the word for "Note" in these other languages.) It's something like conditional text behavior, but instead of choosing show/hide, you set the language attribute for all content in the document to make it work. It may be simpler, hence more practical, to change the show/hide condition setting, which you can do across a book of files with the Synchronize feature, than to change all text styles to a particular language. Unlike FM, ID doesn't have a Global Update Options feature to change a property, like language, in all, (or selected) paragraph styles in a document in one action. Based-on paragraph and character styles might introduce more complexity than is necessary, though the operation is only needed once per language version.
    This may be TMI - probably conditional text is the simplest to implement, once it's set up.

  • Better to load videos with AS or place videos on frames?

    I don't have the AS3 knowledge required to quickly create a custom menu  system to play several videos in an FLVPlayback component or a Netstream  object, so I'm relegated to using some of the canned ones, or a 'menu  maker'. Trouble is, most,or all of these are set up to use an XML file  to set the actions for each menu item, and they are usually limited to  gotoandStop, or gotoandPlay. So, I'm looking at using these menus, and  simply having an instance of my video player at different frames, each  loaded with it's own video, and using the menu to jump to each frame.
    What I'm wondering is, what are the ramifications of doing it this  way, rather than having one player, and using the menu buttons to  dynamically load the FLV's OR MP4's? I've worked hard to try to be able  to limit my movies to a single frame and use AS to run everything. This  seems like a giant step backward.

    It would be wasteful to place video players in every frame for different videos.  You make it sound like creating a menu (buttons?) is your problem, so all you really need to know is how to have a button tell an FLVPlayer component to change its source and play a new video instead of using gotoAndPlay/Stop commands.  If you look up the FLVPlayback component in the AS3 help documentation, all of its properties, methods, and events are listed and explained, and there are likely examples of how to use the code.

  • Where should I place graphic files?

    Setting up a new machine with external Sonnet drives. Should I place non time code files such as graphics, Motion files, music, etc. on the external drives? Or is it OK to place these files on an internal drive? Also, best place for render files, auto save, and thumbnail folders? Really appreciate any input.
    Thanks again,
    Tom

    There is no single correct answer to this. I store graphics files on a non-boot internal drive volume, inside a folder at the top level named, imaginatively Graphics, sub-foldered by project names.
    Likewise, at the same level, I have a folder named Music Cuts, and, also arranged in folders by project names, individual folders with the music inside. I also have a folder named Audio, which contains, inside project folders, VOs and SFX.
    I hope that makes sense.
    Periodically, I will drag the Graphics, Music, and Audio folders to a CD (or DVD, when the folders get too large for a CD), along with the FCP Projects folder from the boot volume. (As with the others, project files are organized in folders named with the project names), and burn the disc for archival purposes. I label the disc with the date and the names of the top level folders.
    From time to time, I will delete all aged files and folders that haven't seen any use in a good long while. By that time, I have several copies of them on several discs.
    Many years ago, I did the same thing, but back then I was saving to a 3.5" floppy. That's how old my practice is.

  • Place graphic in InDesign document via Excel sheet

    Hi,
    I'm new to scripting in InDesign, but need to work on my skills;)
    In school, I already gathered some basic skills in JavaScript, therefore JavaScript is my choice to write a script for InDesign. Even though the environment is Mac OS X and InDesign CS3, AppleScript might be easier to code in?
    Here is the problem:
    An Excel sheet contains a list of names of .eps files generated from SAP. My goal is to create a script that loads the .eps files in this sheet from the location they're saved into the InDesign document and place them in the designated frames.
    My first question: Is this even possible?
    Currently I'm testing and reading some manuals and refernces, but I would be happy for every tiny bit of hint or help or how to get started, so, thanks a lot for your help in advance!
    Greets,
    Alex

    Thank you for your help!
    After playing around some time, I figured out, it would be easier for me to do an XML Import using a XSLT file.
    Unfortunately the XML file generated by Excel is very complex, so I have some issues to extract the needed content.
    Has anybody experience in handling the Microsoft Excel XML?
    Here is the XML:
    <Row>
    <Cell ss:StyleID="s23">
    <Data ss:Type="String"/>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="DATA1"/>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="TESTKEYS"/>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="TEST0"/>
    </Cell>
    <Cell ss:StyleID="s23">
    <Data ss:Type="String">4</Data>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="DATA2"/>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="TESTKEYS"/>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="TEST0"/>
    </Cell>
    <Cell ss:StyleID="s23">
    <Data ss:Type="String">1</Data>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="TESTKEYS"/>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="DATA3"/>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="TEST0"/>
    </Cell>
    <Cell ss:StyleID="s21">
    <Data ss:Type="String">A63027A01BL</Data>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="DATA4"/>
    <NamedCell ss:Name="TEST0"/>
    </Cell>
    </Row>
    And this is my XSLT, which just generates the complete content:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:fn="http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-functions" xmlns:xdt="http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-datatypes" xmlns:err="http://www.w3.org/2005/xqt-errors" xmlns:zuf="http://www.beispiel.com/zuf/3.0" xmlns:pri="http://www.pmn.net/prn/PntI" xmlns:ws="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:spreadsheet" xmlns:ss="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:spreadsheet">

  • How to place panel into frame

    Hi Everybody !! I am new to Swing and am working on a GUI based Elevator Simulation System. I am using Frame on which I am trying to put a Panel. But the panel does not set to the size I want it to even if I use setSize() method. I am posting the code .Could anyone please help me.
    Thanks !!
    package elevator;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class Controller {
        public static void main(String args[])
          Container cpane;
          JFrame frame = new JFrame("ELEVATOR");
          cpane = frame.getContentPane();
          Lift1Panel lp1 = new Lift1Panel();
          frame.setVisible(true);
          frame.setSize(1300,800);
          frame.add(lp1);
          frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    package elevator;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class Lift1Panel extends JPanel {
        public Lift1Panel()
         setSize(200,200);
        public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
         super.paintComponent(g);
         Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D)g;
         g2d.setColor(Color.WHITE);
         g2d.drawRect(10,10,100,100);
    }

    if you use setPreferredSize, don't forget to call frame.pack();. Also, you must realize that the default layout for the contentPane is the BorderLayout, and the default location for adding to this is the BorderLayout.CENTER position. At this location, setPreferredSize is ignored and the central component is expanded to fill the region. You may wish to use a different layout such as the FlowLayout. Experiment with this.

  • How to transfer graphics from frames to anchored frames?

    Hi all,
    Here's the old situation:
    Lots of old documents where all graphics are placed in "regular" non-anchored frames.
    graphics are all scaled and positioned differently within the frames
    New situation:
    new template where all graphics must be placed in anchored frames
    Question: What is the quickest way to get all graphics from the old documents (unanchored frames) into the new template in anchored frames?
    I have tried a number of things that DO NOT work:
    copy graphic from original frame > try to paste it into the anchored frame
    copy old frames incl. graphic into new document, then trying to drag the graphic into the new frame
    looked for a way to change regular frames to anchored frames on some kind of menu, didn't find it.
    Do I really have to reimport, scale, and position each graphic individually?
    Hoping that someone has a good idea what to do!
    THANKS!

    Hi Eugene,
    Did as you suggested and made a small change to my already-existing object style (turned off the frame fitting options) and it now works like a charm!
    Thanks a million

  • Using illustrator for iOS graphics and frame animations (beginner question)

    Hey there,
    Just want to get some opinions and advice.
    We are developing a sidescolling 2D game and I am creating 2D graphics in illustrator, ...so far so good, at this point in time I have a few characters designed.
    Now for the character poses, positions and frame by frame animations.... hmmmm.
    I have been searching for examples of ways to create character movements and positions in illustrator but as of yet have not found any good examples or explainations.
    Would anyone care to share (or point me to some examples) of workflows you use to create different poses and character postions using illustrator...
    (eg. should I be importing my artwork into flash to use the bone tool? Or should I create each variation in illustrator by copying my character and manipulating)

    Though the people I have talked to are using solely illustrator to do just that!?
    Maybe the people you've talked to just haven't taken opportunity to familiarize themselves with Bones. The artwork for cartooney walking animations can be done fairly easily in a drawing program, using Blends, Transform Again etc. So in many cases it's just not a big deal either way.
    What is the advantage of using just illustrator to create animations, I'm guessing that its because the drawing tools available are superior to flash?
    To me, it's not so much about "superior" drawing tools in a drawing program; it's more about a more complete set of drawing tools and commands. Flash has a Bezier drawing tool that works fine, so you can draw paths with control. But creating Blends on paths is just more convenient to do right on the page, without involving a timeline, keyframes, etc. Brushes and Transform Effect make it easy to repeat a series of objects. Flash's continual on-the-fly autotracing and auto merging of overlapping unselected and ungrouped objects can be cumbersome while drawing.
    See this example. Then click the Construction Notes link below it to view a 2-page PDF that shows how the majority of the artworks was accomplished with just two very simple ArtBrushes used in combination with pathBlends. That kind of stuff is often just easier/quicker to do in a drawing program, release to layers, and then copy/paste or otherwise import to Flash.
    Using Blends in AI for things like this experiment can save alot of tedium and time, as compared to working only with Flash's drawing tools. (Notes here.)
    Some things just can't be done with only Flash's drawing tools. Envelope distortions, for example, can be blended to create frame-by-frame shape tweens that would be difficult to do with just Flash's native tools, as in this experiment. (The animation is embedded on Page 11 of the PDF; you may have to click "Trust this host one time only" in Reader and then click the middle of the page to get it to play, depending on your OS version.)
    But as a general rule whenever using a drawing program in conjunction with Flash, avoid using more than ordinary flat fills and stokes in the drawing program before importing the paths to Flash. If you want to involve grads, shadows, transparency, etc., you'll generally be better off adding those things in Flash. Such effects are not the same constructs in different programs, and will most likley become rasterized in Flash (as is the case in the last example, above).
    So again, it depends on specifically what you are trying to do.

  • Best Practice for Image placement and Anchored Frames for use in Robohelp 9

    Hi,
    I'm looking for the best practices in how to layout my images in Framemaker 10 so that they translate correctly to Robohelp 9.  I currently have images inside of Anchored frames that "Run into" the right side of my text. I've adjusted the size of the anchored frame so that my text flows correctly around the image. Everything looks good in Framemaker! Yeah! The problem is that when I link my Framemaker document to Robohelp, the text does not flow around my image in the same manner. On a couple of Robohelp screens the image is running into the footer. I'm wondering if I should be using tables in Framemaker in order to get the page layout that I'm looking for. Also, I went back and forth...is this a Framemaker question or is this a Robohelp question. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
