Place to Donate old Apple Equipment?

Have a Performa 6400/180 tower and monitor. Not trying to sell it online, just want to know if there's a place to donate or make available for cannibalization?
The side of the tower was sitting next to a baseboard heater, thus fringed, but still works. Replaced with an IMAC, then a MacBook, so no use for this whatsoever.
Additionally have a HP Deskwriter C in good condition.

Actually: I have an old Performa 6400/200 with a frayed IDE cable but the side panels are still good. I'm collecting old Macs with the intention of eventually starting an old Mac Museum. I see from your profile you're from Virginia: I currently live in Middlebury, VT so I'm quite close to where you are geographically speaking.
I might be able to arrange to come pick up your 6400/180 too since you're so close by.

as there was some problem with the first one. Now at some places still my old apple Id is appearing.  Pls adv how I change this to my new apple Id.

Anything you downloaded with the first Apple Id will forever be tied to it, and will always require it to update.
The question here is, why did you think you needed to create a new Apple ID? What was the problem with the first one?
To get rid of th old one, you'll need to delete everything you downloaded with it, and then sign out of the ID in several places around the iPad.
    Go to Settings->iTunes & App Stores->Apple ID->Sign out.
Repeat the process, for Facetime, Messages, Mail and any other App you need to sign out of.

  • Tips on donating old Apple TV & crashing movies?

Anyone have tips on how to prepare an old Apple TV for donation?
I am having this probelm with a 1st generation Apple TV that I was copying content onto that I was going to donate to our kid's school (old kid movies they no longer watch).  We've moved on to an ATV2.
After much troubleshooting and playing each movie to verify it works I've come to the following issues:
Handbrake Movies encoded using ap Apple TV 2 or Apple TV 3 preset crash on Apple TV 1 hardware.  My Handbrake movies I encoded using the Apple TV 1 preset seem to work fine.  This was done when we convertd our DVD collection to iTune movies using Handbrake.
Other users running into an Apple TV play a movie or video with audio, but only black video or getting a message:
The Apple TV is not responding.
Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689.
It then gives you a cancel or more info button that links to: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1447?viewlocale=en_US
Should take a look at the movies they are trying to playback.  1st Generation Apple TVs can't use the higer frame rate and larger than 720p frame size found in Handbrakes newer presets.
After I reset the Apple TV (hold the menu button and the - button together for several seconds, choose restart and reselect my language I scroll down my list of movies and uncheck the offending title.
    Anyone else running into this?
Anyone have tips on how to setup an Apple TV for donation (just going to play at a school's extended care with probably no network access).
I don't know of any method for transferring legal ownership of a purchased iTunes movie over to the device so that the school legally owns it (my kids no longer watch those movies), but I'd love to hear any tips of others who've donated their Apple TV and what they did to prepare it with content.
    thanks,
    Stephen

I also am having this same issue, to be specific:
I have my AppleTV setup as custom sync and have all movies and music stream to my AppleTV. When I chose to play a movie via the AppleTV remote application on my iPhone (not 3g) I always get a reboot of the AppleTV at some point during the movie playback. If I choose to play the movie from my out of the box remote I do not have crashes.

  • Where can I send 'old' Apple equipment too

    Hello out there
Over the years I have, as most people also have I assume, accumulated quite a lot of 'old' and subsided Apple equipment, for example old MacBook Pro, Gen 2 iPods, AirPort Express Base stations and AirPort Extreme Base station, cabels etc.
Would not like to put into the usual rubbish as maybe someone has use for it.....
Any suggestions? I live in Alice Springs Central Australia
    Thank you
    Ingolf

    Hi Ingolf,
I wish we were a little closer to each other, I'd be happy to take care of those for you.
I suspect there's someone like me a lot closer to you, maybe Craigslist Australia?
    http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/au
Or whatever local classified advertising you might have around you. Around here a lot of stores have bulletin boards in the entryways and people can put up just about anything they want to. I'm sure a big FREE sign would attract some collectors.

  • HT204053 erase old apple ID and place a new due to expired old email

Hi to all. I have an apple ID in my iphone5 with which I have made my Apps purchases and it is also my Apple ID in icloud. The email of this ID has expired.Buing a new ipad and probably wrongly I did set on this ipad a new appleID with a  new existing email.
Under this sircumstances I cannot transfer my purchase to the new ipad or i dont know how to do it.
In any case my question is can i erase somehow my old apple id and place my new in all my devices (iphone, imac. ipad) as i went
to appleid manage and tried to enter there my new email adress but it doesnt accept it since it says that it is already used.
I am a bit confused with all these and anybody who can help get out of this complicated situation please do. It will be highly appreciated.
    Thank you all in advance

Unfortunately you created a new Apple ID with your new email address. Once you did that it can't be used with any other Apple ID. What you could have done was use the new email address for the old Apple ID and everything would have been fine.
I have not tested this, but another user has said that if you haven't really used the new Apple ID for anything and would be OK with abandoning it, that you can reclaim the new email address from the new Apple ID and resurrect your old Apple ID. This will only work if you are using 3rd party email addresses like [email protected]
    1. Use these steps to change the new Apple ID to a fake email address just slightly different than your new email address.
Changing the email address you use for your Apple ID -

    2. After you have used the above steps to change the new Apple ID to a fake email address, your new email address should be free to use with your old Apple ID following the same steps.

  • Is there a way to connect an old Apple II keyboard (ADB) to my USB iMac?

I just found some old Apple ADB-equipped keyboards (closets are scary places) and would like to find a cable connector that would allow me to use the keyboards with our Mac Mini and iMac (equipped with USB only).  Is such available? and, does it work well?

Yes, USB to ADB adapters were available some years ago when the iMac first came onto the market. I don't know if the adapters can still be found. You could try ebay.
If you do find the adapters, they may cost you more than a new USB keyboard.
I did a quick goggle and came up with this Griffin adapter on Amazon.
Sometimes, its best not to delve into scray closets.

  • How Do I Delete My Old Apple ID From My iPhone When That ID No Longer Exists?

I moved, and cancled my internet provider, losing that associated email (email #1). It was the same email I used for my Apple ID. At some point in the unknown past, the only other email adress I have (email #2) was also signed up for a speerate Apple ID
I spoke to Apple on the phone, they walked me through changing my Apple ID from email #1 to email #2 and deleting any record of email #1. All worked fine.
But now, my iPhone can't do anything iCloud related because it's looking for my original Apple ID with email #1. I can't download apps, I can't download podcasts and most frustrating, I can not DELETE the old Apple ID without a password, which I've tried but am told it doesn't like it - probabbly because that email doesn't exist in the first place.
So, can I do anything before getting back on the phone with Apple?

With iOS 7 there’s no workaround.
    They should have done this.

  • I just created an iCloud email and I want to use that email for my iTunes account as well. I need help suiting the old apple I'd because I do not remember anything associated with that email and I don't know the security questions

I just created an iCloud email and I want to use that email for my iTunes account as well. I need help switching the old apple ID because I do not remember anything associated with that email and I don't know the security questions or the login for that old email.

You cannot do that.  The AppleID you used to create the iCloud account is an active primary email address.  The email address you created with the iCloud account is also an active primary email address (all Apple domain email address automatically become AppleIDs as well).  You cannot replace the primary email address on one active AppleID with the primary email address on another, active AppleID.
You can use your iCloud email/AppleID with iTunes, but it will be a separate account, so all your previous purchases remain tied to the other AppleID you have.
I don't understand your statement that you could not remeber your old AppleID password, as you would have had to use it to create the iCloud account in the first place (the first step of creating the iCloud account required you to login with your existing AppleID and password)?

  • How do you reset the Apple ID to a new one for the automatic updates download tool?  It defaults to my old Apple ID, even though I have changed the Apple ID to the new one everywhere I can find.

I have an original Apple ID from my personal iPhone and iPad.  I bought a MacBook Pro for business and the Apple Store clerk told me to use the old Apple ID to make setup faster and that I could change to a new one later.   So... I did all that and changed the Apple ID everywhere I can find a place to do so.  And everything seems okay, except the Automatic Updates download tool defaults back to my original Apple ID.  That old Apple ID is grayed out in the login, so I cannot seem to change it to download and update under my new, business-related Apple ID for my MacBook Pro.  What to do?

Yes, absolutely, you can still use the old ID to update, etc., but I understood the OP to want to simply discard the old one and use only the new one. Maybe I misunderstood...
And, actually just now re-reading the first post, it could be that the ID had only been associated with the iDevices, so if he established a new ID and associated that with the new MBP, I frankly have no idea if he can still use the old ID on that machine (based on him saying that the old ID is greyed out) - have not come up with this type of situation before.

  • Can I transfer purcased from my old apple ID to my new apple ID

I have an apple ID that I have used for many years. I will stop using the mail address associated with the apple ID. And have therefore opened a new me.com account, as I´m thinking of cancelling the old account. Can I transfer my old purchased items from the old ID to the new one?
If I´m correct, I could just have changed the email address in the old apple ID, and that the ID would have kept on working as before, only with a new name(new mail). But then the new mail can´t be from the apple domain??? Am I missing something, what is the reason behind that.
Or should I just change to a gmail address on my old apple id, and use it as before.
I just don´t want to keep changing apple ID on my devices every time there´s a new update for an app.
    Cheers
    Soisix

You can't transfer content between accounts (nor merge accounts) - content will remain tied to the account that downloaded it.
You can change the primary email address on an account (effectively you are just renaming the account, you shouldn't lost any content or balance associated with the account) by logging into the account via the Store > View Account menu option on a computer's iTunes, by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Store on an iOS device, or via http://appleid.apple.com : Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
You can change your Apple ID to any other email address you control, as long as it's not already in use as an Apple ID. If your email address ends with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com, it's already an Apple ID.
Either before or after changing the account log out of it wherever you are are using it and then log back in with the updated version so as to 'refresh' the account in those places.

  • If I disassociate my MacBook Pro from and old Apple ID, will I then be able to associate it with another Apple ID?

Before I owned an Apple product, I had an AppleID (an AOL email address) I used with iTunes.  When I got my first iPhone (and also MobileMe), I started using a me.com email address for my main email account and also for my AppleID.  This has caused some confusion over the years and today I was updating my Support Profile and, much to my surprise, I realized my MacBook Pro was associated with the old Apple ID.  I would like to have one Support Profile with all of my Apple products in the same place.  I updated my password for the AOL address AppleID and found that my MBP, as well as my daughter's iPod Touch, were registered under it.  I found the option to "disassociate" a device, but wanted to first make sure that I won't have any problem re-registering the MBP and the iPod Touch under the AppleID I most frequently use.

    zitzerman,
you’d need to boot into Recovery mode by holding down ⌘R as your MacBook Pro starts up. When the OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. Run Disk Utility to completely erase your internal disk; after it’s been erased, exit Disk Utility and select Shut Down from the Apple menu. When you restart it, OS X Internet Recovery will redownload your MacBook Pro’s original version of OS X from Apple’s servers, and then install it. When you run it, the welcome video will play; reïnitialize it to your liking, associating it with your preferred Apple ID. When you log in, run Software Update to get it up to date in its installed version of OS X.

  • Not able to reset my password for an old apple id account

I have an Ipod that I purchased back in 2006.  At the time when I signed up for an apple ID I used at the time an address that The University of South Carolina gave me since I was a student at the time.  Once you graduate which I did they disable your email account, so I don't have that email account.  I am not able to reset my password or change my apple ID because I don't know the password. Obvisously I can't have you send me a link to my old email to be able to set up a new password since I don't have that emaill address no more & can't use it.  Everytime I try to answer the security questions which it has been asking me for my birth month & day it says that I have put in the wrong info, but I know my birth month & day. I really have no way of changing the password or the appl ID. What do I do & who do I contact about this. Now I can't download any music to my Ipod.

Gilbertfromwi, I still don't understand your question at all.

This iPad mini was transferred to a new Apple ID. The transfer and serial number was verified thru email.
I cannot imagine what this means.  You make it sound as if some third party is involved in the transfer.
If the fomer Apple ID released the iPad Mini in the first place, then it would look like a new machine and the new owner could simply step in and set it up as his/hers.
    Gilbertfromwi wrote:
When tring to set up iCloud's, the screen is greyed.
I'm guessing this might mean you go to Settings > iCloud, but cannot input anything.  Do you see someone's Apple ID there?  Anyway, again, if the original Apple ID released the iPad, you could just do Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings and start over.
    Gilbertfromwi wrote:
Then, it asks for the password for the old Apple ID. When I enter this password, it is not accepted.
So when this quesion arises, do you see something like "Apple ID : [the old one is shown] ... Password : [you try to enter the password of the old Apple ID, but it is rejected]"?

Apps and other stuff you download are always linked to the ID you used to download.  You need to update the app with the ID that you used to download the app in the first place and the password for that ID

Where i should change for this?

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
    3. Other issues
If you see a lock screen when trying to boot from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information.
