Placed Files and Copied Text not Appearing in Links Palette

I am working on an annual report.
The report is a booklet. I'm using master text boxes. The report is basically one, long flowing stream of text. Within this there are many articles, divided by headings.
I'm receiving articles for this annual report from many different sources, text within emails, Word documents, etc.
I have the "Create Links When Placing Text and Spreadsheet Files" checked.
I'm having this issue:
Nothing is appearing in my Links palette.
When I go to File>Place, and place a Word document in as an article within my report, it doesn't appear in the link palette. When I copy text in from a Word document, it doesn't appear in the link palette.
However, when I place the Word document in the annual report within it's own text box, THEN it appears in the links palette.
But I don't want each Word document within it's own text box, I want it to be a part of the other text flow within the report.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Can't InDesign retain the link to the document even if the text is placed within a larger body of text flow?

No. It's not possible to maintain a link to text that's not in its own text frame.
What would happen if you were to edit the text in the frame, and part of the text affected was linked and part was not. What would you expect to happen? Such a workflow isn't possible as far as I know.

I cannot open downloaded files and they do not appear in the download folder

Up until yesterday everything was fine. All of a sudden when i try to download anything via firefox it shows it is downloading it completes the download but when i click the downloaded file in the download section or try to click open containing folder nothing happens. If you no longer have access to that old computer then you can try to import the IE favorites or export the IE favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in Firefox.

I have spent the last two or three days trying to do what you suggested. I uninstalled Adobe 6 from Windows. Some files that CS6 placed on my system during installation remained, including fonts and .dll files.
I had to abandon the Cleaner Tool you suggested because in one screen it allowed me to specify removing CS6 only, but on the following screen it only gave on option to remove ALL Adobe programs. I could not do that because I didn't have the serial number handy for CS3 in case I want to reinstall it at some point.
I tried to get technical help with the Cleaner Tool problem but no definitive help was available, so I reinstalled CS6 again without having the benefit of the Cleaner Tool. I tried to get the serial number for CS3 so I could use the Cleaner Tool but spent 2 wasted hours in chat. Even though I had a customer number, order number, order date, place of purchase, the email address used AND 16 digits of the serial number, in two hours the agent couldn't give me the serial number. After two hours I had nothing but instructions to wait another 20 minutes for a case number.
Illustrator CS6 is still trying to open some backups as Text and otherNone of the problems have been fixed. I have tried to open/use the .ai files in CS6 installed on another system and am getting the same result, so I don't think the software was damaged by the cleaner. The hard drive cleaner is well-known and I've run it many times without any problem to previous versions of Illustrator or any other programs.
When I ordered, the sale rep promised good technical support and gave me an 800 number, but after I paid the $2000, I learned that the 800 number she gave me doesn't support CS6 and hangs up on me. Adobe doesn't call it a current product even though they just sold it to me about 3 weeks ago.
Would appreciate any help you experts can offer. If I can't solve this, the last backup I can use was from June and I will have lost HUNDREDS of hours of work and assets that I cannot replace.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

Reboot the machine holding Command and r keys down, you'll boot into Lion Recovery Partition
In there will be Disk Utility, use that to select your Lion OS X Partition and Repair Permissions.
After that is done reboot the machine and see if you can log in.
If not repeat the above steps to get into Lion Recovery, get online and reinstall Lion again, it will overwrite the installed version and hopefully after that it wil work.
Reboot and try again.
If not follow my steps to create a Snow Leopard Data Recovery drive, then option boot from it and grab a copy of your files off the machine.
Then reinstall all your programs onto the external drive like setting up a new machine, then use Disk Utility to erase the entire internal boot drive (select the drive media on the far left, not the partiton slightly indented) format Option: GUID , 1 partition OS X Extended and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external to the newly formatted internal drive. Once that is finished reboot and disconnect the external drive.
Once you go that, boot into Snow Leopard and update to 10.6.8, use the AppStore and option click on Purchases and download Lion again and install.
Lots of work, but there is no Lion disks.

This sounds like it is about Window positions.
iChat has Default places for Incoming Invites.
Video is always top Center of your Screen
Audio and Text chats are Upper right with the Audio slightly lower than Text Chats.
Secondary invites are sort of Stacked like when you open multiple files from the same App.
Your outgoing Windows are "Remembered" as to where the last one was when you used it.
This can be an issue if you use your Mac with a second display and turn Off Mirroring.
You windows can get "left" on the other screen.
Go to System Preferences > Displays and turn On Mirroring and the windows should come back to one Screen/display.
If this does not help go to your Home Folder/Library/Preferences and delete (Drag to Trash) com.apple.ichat.plist and restart iChat.
Unfortunately you will need to reset any iChat Preferences you have changed from defaults.

Russian text not appearing correctly

I'm new to the Mac, please bear with me.
I am attempting to translate some code developed by a Russian speaker however the Russian text appears in weird characters.

I've tried everything I could think of to get it to appear correctly to no avail. I've looked at other Russian code to ensure it was not just his files and it's not. I'm assuming it's something on my end not allowing it to appear correctly.
Please help a frustrated developer get back on track

The TextEdit option did not work however your suggestion to view the file in a browser proved successful. I switched the character encoding to Cyrillic (Windows-1251) and the Russian text appeared as it should. I was using TextWrangler to view the files set to the same setting yet it remained the same. Not sure why. In any event, many thanks for your helpful suggestions.

Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry.

If you see disabled extensions that are not compatible on the next start in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button to do a compatibility check.

Search for mai in gmail and copy text

I am having hard time to copy text. Basically, I need to search for mail in gmail and copy text to be sent as text message or copy as note.
1 In ff and default browser, I can search for mail, but no select option
2 In Nokia messaging there is no option for even search.
When I swipe from left to right, whole scree is moving. Appreciate any help.

For Copy-Pasting from Gmail, I am not aware of the technique of doing the same from a browser. The copy-paste function works well from a text-field to another text-field.
So, I just forward the Gmail message, so that the body of the text appears on a text-filed inside the browser......and then I copy-paste it................without really forwarding the message to anyone

Flash Player is a browser add-on, not an executable program.
If you need to open a local SWF file you will need the standalone player (Projector) from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Note that the download is the player, not an installer, so you will need to make the file association manually.

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

Ipad takes photo every time I close the cover of its case. When I close the cover - it really does take a picture and saves a photo. Luckly, it make a click, and pictures are seen in the photo album, and it does not appear to be forwarding.

It seems to take a picture of the counter top = I do not see the keyboard.
I am wondering ....It may be a kids game app that takes pictures of the screen or out the back camera. I am starting to think it may just be a sound effect when placing the iPad on its screen. So many things that may be unrelated but coincedental. It started in May (the sound) and so did the multiple pictures - starting to think they are not related.

Sorry if this is not the right forum - it seems to be the closest one for things about LDOMs; plese let me know if I should post somewhere else.
I have installed LDoms_Manager-1_2.zip on a T5220 Server; following the book ("Logical Domains 1.2 Administration Guide") I set up the control domain etc, then a guest domain (cranachan) - so far all appears well. I downloaded the dvd iso of Solaris 10 (sol-10-u7-ga-sparc-dvd.iso) and added it to the guest as described, started the domain and issued "boot vdisk_iso:f -v" - this seemed to work well, but there was an error that turned out to be that I had given the wrong path for the system disk.
So I started over - removed the guest domain and the disk definitions for both guest and control domain, and removed the guest; then recreated everything. This time, when I "boot vdisk_iso:f -v" I get:
The file just loaded does not appear to be executable.
Any idea what may have happened? It makes no sense to me; not unless the iso file has been corrupted, but it doesn't seem to have been modified, and I can mount it as a loop-back fs in linux.

I have the same problem with a Netra T1 system. Solaris 10 installed fine and it won't boot. It did have Solaris 8 on the system, but I put in new drives to start my Solaris 10 install.
I tried booting to single user cd-rom (ok boot cdrom -s) and ran this:
# installboot /usr/platform/SUNW,UltraAX-i2/lib/fs/ufs/bookblk /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s1
(SUNW,UltraAX-i2 was derived from # uname -i)
It didn't help.
I also tried "setenv diag-switch? false" at the okay prompt. It didn't help

Help please? When using USB to connect to my ibook the phone gives me this message: "Coneced as Storage Device: Some file and applications are not accessible". I then go to my desktop and search through my phone to find no files not to mention not showing up in iTunes. Could someone please help?

I am having a similar problem.
My RoKr was connecting and syncing properly until I performed the latest software upgrade (which upgraded both iTunes and iSync). After the upgrade my phone does not show up either in iTunes or on the desktop. When I plug the phone it indicates that it is connecting as a storage device and some file/applications will not be accessible. However the phone does not appear on the desktop or in iTunes. When I go into iSync the phone is only recognized via bluetooth, the USB connection is not detected.
I remain tuneless and await a solution...
