Placed files color values change

When I open up a cmyk doc in photoshop, fill it with values that make a black, lets say c=60 m=40 y=30 k=100, then save it and then place the file in a cmyk Illustrator doc, the values are no longer 60,40,30, 100. When I hover the dropper over the swatch - they have changed rather dramtically - in this case to 75, 67, 67. 90.   I thought the adobe programs were supposed to maintain consistancy on something like this. I have the color settings managed by bridge saying that all the programs are color synchronized.  Anyone know what could be causing this?

Mylenium (or whoever)
Well, I am just using a very basic example for this forum discussion. My sycnchronized settings are the "North America Prepress 2" (althought I also tried "North America General Purpose 2" with no luck)  I start a new cmyk file in photoshop 300x300 pixels. Profile defaults to "US web coated swop 2" via the "north America prepress 2" color settings.  I go to the color mixer and enter values C=60 Y=40 M=30 K=100 then fill the foreground with that color.
Then save as psd file - making sure to "save with the ICC profile" option (US web coated swop 2) is checked.
In illustrator, I open a new cmyk file.(again, illustrator is synched to have the same color settings)  I go to file/place and place the file as a linked file I just created in photoshop.  When I measure the values on the file I just placed with the eye dropper which were 60,40,30100 in photoshop - they now have become C=75.02, Y=67.97, M=67.02, K=90.16 in illustrator.   It makes no sense.....I don't know what I could be missing. It doesn't matter what color I use either...it could be values that make a red or blue....it comes out different in illustrator.  Now, I discovered that if I unlink the placed file (embed it) then suddenly the values become much closer to what they should be (within 1%)  But I'd still like it to work how it should when I place the linked file.
Hopefully that helps you see exactly what I am doing.

  • Why don't color values change when using proof colors?

    Hi,
i am very interested in obtaining exact replicas of the image in screen (in ProPhoto) and the image printed (using a suitable printer profile). However when I select Proof Colors from the view menu, the appearance changes but the RGBV or Lab colors remain the same. This is counter intuitive and goes against the well known recomendation to do color correcting using numbers instead of your eyes.
What's happening? Is there a way to accomplish what I want?
    Thanks,
    Juan

    Juan,
please let me tell you my opinion, based on working with i1Pro, ProfileMaker and a couple
    of printers and monitors:
    a) one doesn't calibrate a monitor for a better match of monitor view and print result.
The monitor has to be calibrated for preferred settings, here for 100cd/m² and 6500K.
In my case, calibrated in an almost dark room in order to avoid any flare, the minimal
luminance is about 0.3cd/m², which results in a contrast of about 300. With some ambient
light the actual contrast is probably not as large.
    b) one doesnt calibrate a printer with respect to a monitor. The printer is calibrated by
printing a target and measuring this, followed by profile generation. As a result, a printer
can print color patches with certain Lab values with a measurable accuracy, without any
reference to a monitor. By the way: calibration takes the paper color into account, there-
for one needs for each paper a new profile (as well for different printing modes or diffferent
    black inks and so on).
    What is to do?
You have already i1 Profiler. Each version can profile monitors, but you need a version
which can profile printers as well. In this German doc means Drucker=printer:
    http://www.pdfmarkt.de/index_de,marktcm,15,528,,49.php
It looks as you have a version which can calibrate printers in RGB mode (perhaps i1 Basic Pro2 ).
Then follow the procedures in these docs, mainly the third:
    http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/profiling/i1_profiler_overview.html
    http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/profiling/i1_profiler_monitor.html
    http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/profiling/i1_profiler_rgb_print.html
What means RGB mode? Epson printers, for instance my model 7890, can be calibrated in
RGB mode or in CMYK mode. Of course. the printer prints finally by CMYK inks, but the
targets are defined either by RGB values or by CMYK values.
RGB mode is preferred by photographers (RGB images), CMYK mode accepts as well CMYK
data as generated in PostScript workflows and is used for proofing offset-print-ready PDFs.
An example: technical graphics may contain one or two inks in order to avoid registration
errors. Sending these data to an 'RGB-printer' would result in printing by all inks.
I'm calibrating in CMYK mode. The profile interpretation by Profile Inspector shows CMYK
as device space. Available profiles by others (for common papers) show RGB as device space.
Profile connection space is in either case CIELab.
    How are the viewing conditions?
Probably not by viewing monitor and print side by side. The monitor has 6500K, prints are
to be inspected under 5000K. Thus, a simultaneous adaptation is impossible.
Also, it would be wrong, because the rendering is mostly not Absolute Colorimetric.
For the critical inspection of prints the illuminance should be very bright, 2000lx (lux),
according to ISO.  100cd/m² is roughly equivalent to 300lx (3-hundred).
As a result, one cannot expect a match, but an impression: looks right on the monitor, looks
right on the print. And an offset printing press can be adjusted by matching a proof print.
    Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann

  • Preserving Black color values when converting color PDF to grayscale

I opened a full colored PDF document (exported from InDesign using Profile: Euroscale Coated v2) in Photoshop and tried to convert it to grayscale (image > mode > grayscale) and noticed that the black color values changed. text for example that was 100% black in the PDF document became a screen of 91% black.
is there a way to preserve color values when converting full color PDF documents to grayscale?
or in other words WHICH is the correct way to convert full color PDF documents or full color InDesign files to grayscale?
I am using Adobe CS 3, Acrobat 8 Professional, on Mac OS 10.5.5

Before you open the PDF in Photoshop, set PS's Color Settings to Photoshop 5 Default Spaces. When you open the PDF set the Mode to Grayscale in the Import dialog. Just remember to reset your color settings when you're done.
Edit: Also, if you want to match black percentages as well as 100% black, set the Photoshop Color Settings to Photoshop 5 Default Spaces with the Gray working space to Dot Gain 20%.

  • Placing images in Illustrator changes their color values-Why?

I've been placing photoshop tiff files into Illustrator, and doing this seems to change the color values, when I sample them with the eyedropper tool. The images I made use a custom mix of CMYK rich black, with the K set to 100. In Illustrator, they appear to revert to the default 'Photoshop black", approx C75 M68 Y67 K90. This is not my intent of C70 M60 Y58 K100. The Illustrator document is CMYK mode, and I don't know why this is happening. The non-image items (vectors) in my illustrator file DO retain the color values I intended, however.
Is this some kind of setting I can change in Illustrator? Will this discrepancy show up when this file goes to print? Please help! Thanks.

WHen the image is not embedded, Illustrator samples the representation values. Those are handled by color management.

  • CS2 Placed Files are Wrong Color

I created a square in a new CMYK document with a fill color of C:0, M:0, Y:0, K:80 and then clicked on Edit->Assign Profile and set the assignment at "Don't Color Manage This Document". Then I saved the file with the option for embed IIC profile checked. I created a new CMKY document and clicked on Edit->Assign Profile and set the assignment at "Don't Color Manage This Document". Then I clicked File->Place and placed the first file into the new document. I used the Eye Dropper tool to sample the color from the placed file and these are the CMYK values that I get C:77, M:67, Y:66, K:1.
If I copy and paste the file into a new document, the color is correct. In this case, I need to use place.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to why the color is different in the second document when the file is placed?
    Thanks in advance!

    >...clicked on Edit->Assign Profile and set the assignment at "Don't Color Manage This Document". Then I saved the file with the option for embed IIC profile checked.
Why are you doing such a thing? Those two choices are at odds. Illustrator will embed the working space profile if you check the embed profile option at save-time
regardless of your earlier choice not to color manage. You can prove it to yourself by re-opening the document and looking at the document info palette.
If you don't want to use color management, don't embed profiles.
Now, as to your question regarding the change in color, you're observing an on-screen rendering issue. Embed rather than link the document you are placing, and you should see proper color values via the eyedropper tool.

  • Placed file not showing correct colors

using illustrator cc, on a series of illustrations, i am placing an ai file with my color pallette into all of my files (if i update the pallate, all files will have the corrected version). when i place the pallette file, the cmyk values are slightly off. all files are cmyk. seems like a bug, reminds me of placing illustrator into photoshop, and colors values would be ever so slightly off. anyone else noticing this? seems like a bug.

Need some help to follow exactly what you are doing.
Can you let us know exactly what commands you are using? (eg: swatches flyout menu >> open swatch library >> other, copy & pasting between documents). What color swatches are you using (color type, global, color mode)?
Nonetheless couple of things to check
Are you in doucment colro mode >> cmyk for all documents
Are you using CS6 with files from anotoher version? Swat5hces flyout >> spot colros >> use cmyk values for both (or lab values as in CS6)

  • Change Color in Spcolor File but Color Not Changed in Site - SP 2013

I have changed the color in the spcolor file that is associated with the theme selected for my site, but when I save it and upload it to the site again, the color does not change on the site. Is there another way colors can be changed that would override
    the spcolor file?

    Hi Tracey,
Please download the orginal spcolor file for particular composed look/theme from that site collection themem gallery, then change the color value with Notepad application, then upload it back to theme gallery to overrride spcolor file, check out and check
in this file, then see if the custom color could be changed for that particular composed look for your site, please try this in a test site collection firstly.
Also you can try creating a new custom composed look with custom spcolor for your site per the following articles, see if it could work.

  • Created file in illustrator then opened in photoshop but color code changed?

I Created file in illustrator and then opened the art in photoshop but the wierd thing is that the color code changed. If you look at the image with you eye the color will look the same to the naked but if you use the eye dripper tool you can see that the color code has changed between illustrator and photoshop.
Is there a way to make the CMYK color code stay the same?

In Illustrator the "Edit---> color settings" are set to "North America General Purpose 2" and the that is the same color setting choice in Photoshop.
For example there is a black color in Illustrator that has this CMYK code "60, 49,47, 100"
but in photoshop the CMYK code for the same part of the graphic changes to "75, 68, 67, 90"
This is only one example of many color code changes that are happening and this may look like the same color on the screen but I need them to both have the same code because I am doing specialized printing and need no changes in color codes like this to occur.
If I have the color setting in both photoshop and illustrator both set exactly the same "Edit---> color settings" then do you know why this color shift would be happening. Please help.

  • Illustrator cs5 changes Kuler color values when importing, Help!

I am using Illustrator cs5. I access the Kuler Color theme feature for color themes. I will select a them from the Kuler feature
and then choose to add that theme to my swatch panel. I then check the individual colors in the color panel. Here is the
problem: when illustrator brings in the Kuler colors to the Illustrator color panel it will change the values of that color which
changes the actual color. For instance a bright green becomes a muted turquoise. This conclusion is not by my sight,
because I have opened the specific color theme at the Kuler Web sight and obtained the CMYK values for those colors,
and then gone back to the Illustrator color panel and compared then values there. The values are changed which creates
a different color --- obviously. So how can I use the Kuler feature when illustrator changes the values on me which then
    changes the color? Help

I dont know what my color settings are at this point.
I download the Kuler color theme straight from the Kuler panel open on my desktop. I open
the drop down menu options and choose: add this theme to your color swatches. The
theme is moved over to the swatch panel while I am using Illustrator.
I don't know what you mean by your last question.

  • Please, can I with help of Javascript change spot color values? for example by my color VARNISH with c:0,m:10,y:15,k:0 to make change to c:0,m:0,y:0,k:0? thank you

Please, can I with help of Javascript change specific spot color values? for example, I have color named VARNISH with values c:0,m:10,y:15,k:0 and it would help me to make change to c:0,m:0,y:0,k:0 as a part of an action. Is it possible? Thank you

    Hi Kon Verter,
you can change the values of your spot swatch, but you have to check many things before.
e.g. you can do something like this:
    var Vcolor = app.activeDocument.swatches.getByName("Varnish");
    if (Vcolor.color.spot.colorType == ColorModel.SPOT && Vcolor.color.spot.spotKind == SpotColorKind.SPOTCMYK) {
        alert("Black value before: "+Vcolor.color.spot.color.black);
        Vcolor.color.spot.color.black= 0; // and so on
        alert("Black value after: "+Vcolor.color.spot.color.black);
This will change the black value of the cmyk spot color with name Varnish to 0
    Have fun

  • Why is the label color not changing when my file is updated?

I would like the label color to change to white when a file has been updated/changed. Since upgrading to 10.7.2 the file color stays the same. Is there a setting I am missing that will allow the file to go back to white when updated?
    Thanks for any input...

As far as I know, this is not standard functionality in the Mac OS.  Granted this, some third party application, or a script of something, was making this happen for you. Somehow the system update broke it. If you can figure out what software was giving you this feature, maybe you can update it or re-install it.

  • When placing file, font changes throughout file

I am working on a project and everything was fine a couple of days ago but last night when I tried to place a file, the font changes on all the other pages.I do have paragraph styles set up and even referenced a different file to make sure it's still set up right. I did have to make some changes but the biggest thing now is as soon as I click on the page where I want my file to be placed, the font changes throughout.
    Please, help!

I tried clearing the formatting in Word before bringing the file over. I still had the same problem. Why would it work okay earlier this week and get funky on me now?
    What is the better way?
There is local formatting done. Where do I adjust the default for placing a file because I'm not telling it to use that paragraph style, it does it automatically.
I realize I need to start fresh. I'm using styles that were established years ago by someone else. I'm not sure how to build from scratch. Can you send me in the right direction for good tutorials?
For now, I need to finish this issue because it's late. After that, I'll get a new format prepared.

  • Colors are changing within the same file

I am working on defining colors, but when I define CMYK values in one window, it changes in another. Why is this?
My document is set to CMYK. The color value shown for the swatch is different from the color picker.
The image below shows Different CMYK colors: The correct CMYK is 0, 76, 100, 0, as shown in the swatch on the right. The swatch was then assigned to an object. I selected the color picker and you'll notice the CMYK has changed to 0, 63, 95, 0. What is going on here?

    jking,
Here is an update with good news:
It seems that  the issue is caused by a corrupt folder called en_US or similar (depending on language) within the Adobe Illustrator 18 Settings folder, see post #7 by Jules in this thread,
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1595766
so the solution should be to move or rename that folder (or the whole Adobe Illustrator 18 Settings folder).
You can find the folder in Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed.

  • Change 'Soft Resource Limit file descriptor' value

    Hi,
How do I change 'Soft Resource Limit file descriptor; value in Solaris 10
Is there any conditions to change this?
    Ashraf.

There are 2 values. The default and the maximum.
It starts at the default and can be increased up the maximum.
If you want change the value persistently and machine wide, you can put a config option
    in /etc/system. Something like
    set rlim_fd_cur = 8129
    set rlim_fd_max = 8129
If you want to do it for your account only then, just put those lines into your profile.
But you'll still be only able to increase it up to the max.
The max can only be increased by root or in /etc/system.

  • Color values shift from Illustrator to Photoshop

    Hi there:
Hopefully someone has an answer for me (my apologies if this has been addressed before)?
When  I open up a EPS file in Illustrator CS5, the blacks read !00% for RGB. When  exported as a JPG, Photoshop CS5 reads it as 0-0-0. So far so good. But  when copy and paste the same EPS into a Photoshop files, as a smart  object, the values change to 4-7-7. I've tried that with other colors,  and it seems the color values shift when using as a smart object. Any  ideas on why and how to remedy this?
I will also post in the Photoshop forum as well...
    Thanks,
    Lisa

So I also had someone else reply in the Photoshop forum about this. Apparently, I need to be using the Adobe RGB (1998) color space on both applications in order for the numbers to reflect the correct color values.
Not sure why it wouldn't do so in other color spaces (I had mine initially set to sRGB on both apps), and I'll need to see if this runs into any issues on our end.
If you have any more insight, I would love to hear it. But thanks for your help!
