Placed items in photoshop can't be moved unless quit and re-open

CS6 using Mac OSX 10.8 (And earlier versions) won't allow me to move placed items unless I quit and re-start!

Can you not even move the placed file (Smart Object Layer) after you have confirmed the initial import?
This is very strange behavior, works without issue on my side. I'd suggest recreating the preference files to get behavior back to normal.

I would use the NAS for documents and other data that do not need a library with database files inside. For iPhoto a small portable drive that you can plug in directly would be perfect; you can get one for 79$ http://mac-portable-hard-drive-review.toptenreviews.com/western-digital-review.h tml
Before you try to copy your iPhoto library anywhere, make sure it does not have any inconsistencies, that could prevent copying. Run a rebuild, using the First Aid tools. See this post by Old Toad on how to do it: Re: iPhoto version 8.1.2

That error message is very typical for copying between incompatible file systems. I get this error message usually when I try to move iPhoto libraries or Aperture libraries to drives with MS Dos (FAT) or unix formatting, or when some of the image files inside the library contain ethnic characters (Umlaute), have very long file names, or the filenames contain other special characters.
Do you have any other large data sets that you could try to move to your NAS instead of your iPhoto library? Movies, Music? Then move these first to have enough working space, when you try to move the iPhoto library. If you are running out of space, it will be difficult for the OS to move large amounts of data at once. That will need working space.

Everything is up to date as far as software is concerned. . .I just update anything that comes up. I have not had this problem with this computer anywhere else and I am not having a problem with any other website. I have the problem with both Safari and Google Chrome.

Simple question, sorry.
I can find no way to have 2 windows open as we used to do, to be able to browse the iTunes library in 11, at the same time we have our own library open. I figure this ability must be here, but the right-click option seems to be gone.

Sigh... thanks for the link, and the information. I knew that I would ultimately hate the changes that came with Apple turning Mac OS into iOS. I have a huge iMac, yet get the same behavior as on my iPhone? That seems like a good idea...
From the company who first came up with windows and the ability to do multiple things at the same time on a computer, this is a disappointment indeed.

After a recent upgrade the system no longer asks me if i want to quit and save open tabs. why is that and can I do something to get this feature back?

I recently had a firefox update (withing past 3 days). Now when I go to close down my browser it only asks me if I am sure I want to close all tabs.
Previously it had asked me if I wanted to quit and save my open tabs or just quit.

You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session. 
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page. 
Another possibility is to use: 
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
You can set the warn prefs on the about:config page to true via the right-click context menu or toggle with a double left-click.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

Do a Get Info, CMD-I, on the File. Is it locked?
Open Terminal in Utilities and copy/paste this command -- important, leave a space -- then drag the file into the Terminal window and hit return. Please post the output. You can just close the window, when finished.

Photoshop Album 1.0 Moved to computer and lost all my tags! Help

I have been tagging my photos for years and recently my computer crashed, had to be reformatted and I lost all of my tags apparently. I kept all the photo areas and info in applications/adobe/photoshopalbum/mycatalog etc but it does not restore the tags. Goes anyone know how I can do this? If I deleted an important file that would make it work ok- which one and where is it. I will try and recover it if possible. I am in a terrible position. I read the manual and it talks about being able to restore the tags but I cannot find the info on this website or within the help info. I have tried very hard to resolve with no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

File can not be moved by drag and drop in the finder when not open Finder windows

With the operating system OSX Snow Leopard, it was possible, for example, a file from the desktop to pull drag and drop on the Finder icon, the page opened after a short and you could put the file in a folder.
At this stage I must first open the Finder to drag a file into the destination folder.
Is it a setting or is there anything wrong with my Mountain Lion properly?
It is often the case that several windows of other applications are open or in Fullscreen are, then I would, as I also already knew and am accustomed, for example a file regardless of the location from which drag drag and drop in the Finder without leaving the / program / site to open the Finder, before returning to the file then select I wanted to move.
Note: For all other programs it works.
Finder not only in where it makes the most sense.

Yes, all I can tell you is that Finder does not have that function in ML. Your system is "working as expected".

HT5219 What are the external monitor requirements that can support having two windows email and safari open side by side?

I have a 27" iMac at home that supports this but would like to see if I can enable my Macbook air to do the same thing. I want to find out if this capability can be supported with my Macbook air and if so what are the monitor requirements.

Usually two causes of that, the first being the windows dpi scaling (most common cause) and the second being your graphics card driver needs to be updated.
Try playing with the windows dpi settings
Right click on your Desktop and select Screen Resolution
Then in the screen that comes up, click on Make Text or Other Items Larger or Smaller
Then move the slider under Change the Size of All Items to Smaller and restart windows 8
Also, you can try clicking on Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays, then click on Custom sizing options and drag on the rulers to set 149% and see if that is any better.

FireFTP seems corrupted. I can't go to FTP sites and it opens itself in a second tab whenever I open Firefox

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling FireFTP?

After going from firefox to another app. such as mail, I can't go to the dock and re-open my home page. The bar says firefox, but the previous app is on screen and douple-clicking the icon in the dock does nothing.

Problem seems to have started today after alothome.com hijacked my home page and I had to re-select original homepage as default.

I went to add-ons manager and removed ALOT and the problem went away. Post office recommended using ALOT to track a package but it screws up firefox.

Restart your Mac.

I have Adobe Reader XI but I can not read a pdf online, I must save it and then open. This never happened before.

The system attempts to download the pdf, but it is a dark grey screen. I can save this as a file and then open it using Adobe. Why two steps? I should be able to read the first one. This is extremely annoying.

have just set up my new airport time capsule done a time machine back up but can not add any files to it to share when i try i get the following message

How are you trying to add files??
You cannot add them to the TM backup?
TM owns the sparsebundle and you should not add files to any sparsebundle.. do not even attempt to.
You can create a new directory in the Time Capsule and copy files to that.. as long as you have turned on file sharing and give correct access permissions.
Mixing data and backups does have consequences though.
