Placed PDF issue - Highlights missing

Does anyone know why the highlights that I've made to many PDF's are not showing up when placed in an ID CS4 file?  I'm trying to make work instructions and really need this text highlighted.  Is there another way I can achieve this if the PDF isn't going to retain the changes I've made?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, nevermind on the SnapShot tool.  The text doesn't come out clear.  This has become rather annoying.
I tried the suggestion of making a yellow line and adjusting the opacity, but that blurs out the text that's being highlighted and doesn't look too sharp.  Any other suggestions?  Has anyone else had to highlight something in a document?
The trick here is that the highlights aren't just highlights, they're PDF Comments in the form of highlights. You can make comments in the form of sticky notes, cloud outlines, rectangles, boxes with arrows, and so on.
So, what you want to do is to print the PDF from Acrobat, to the Acrobat printer or PDF printer, with the option to print comments turned on. It's likely that the default print setting in your version of Acrobat or Reader, has the option to print comments turned off. Depending on your version of Acrobat, and your OS (Windows or Mac) the option may be in one place or another.
Here's how it looks in Mac OS X 10.5.8 (latest Tiger update) with Acrobat 9 Pro:

  • Placed Pdf in illustrator missing fonts no warning

    I have placed a pdf in illustrator that has embedded subset fonts. In illustrator the fonts display wrong but I get no warning that fonts are missing. When I click on the substituted font the type panel shows it as the correct font name. Are there any cases of a file with missing fonts not displaying a warning? If I save the file and reopen it I do get the font warning.

    Possibly there are different versions of the font. The name may be the same, but the document could refer to an older/ different version and only when you save does that info get updated. Hard to tell without actually seeing the Doc. What does Acrobat say exactly about the font? Is there a doifference in that info when you re-create the text locally from within AI and save a PDF with the same options?

  • CS3: Missing Hyperlinks in IDCS3 When exporting to PDF with a placed PDF that has hyperlinks

    Hello,
    Does ID supports exporting hyperlinks from a file that has a placed PDF that already has hyperlinks?
    Cause after exporting all the hyperlinks of the place pdf disappeared.
    thank you

    Importing PDF pages
    Using the Place command, you can specify which pages you want to import from a multipage PDF: You can place a single page, a range of pages, or all pages. Multipage PDF files let designers combine illustrations for a publication into a single file.
    The page range options appear when you select Show Import Options in the Place dialog box. The dialog box includes a preview, so you can view a thumbnail of the pages before you place them. As you place each page, InDesign reloads the graphics icon with the next page, letting you place the pages one after the next.
    i InDesign doesnt import movies, sound, links, or buttons when you place a PDF file.

  • Getting the offset of a placed PDF within the container rectangle

    I need to get the offset of a placed PDF inside of the container rectangle. I have figured out that this information should be available in the transformationMatrix of the placed file. So I do something like:
    var pdfTransform = pdf.transformValuesOf(CoordinateSpaces.pasteboardCoordinates)[0];
    var horzTranslation = pdfTransform.horizontalTranslation;
    var vertTranslation = pdfTransform.verticalTranslation;
    but the coordinates I get back are just weird. The horizontal value seems reasonable, but the vertical is way off what I expect.
    There may be some precondition to doing this that I'm missing. Running the pageitems/TransformValuesOf.jsx sample from the Scripting Guide also gives weird values. That sample creates a rectangle with a center point of [0, 0] and then retrieves the transform. I would expect the translation to be [0, 0] but I actually get [5, -415.95] (horz, vert).
    In that sample it talks about ruler coordinates, so I tried setting document.viewPreferences.rulerOrigin to different values, but that does nothing.
    I'm stumped. Can someone please give me a hint on what's going on here?

    Thanks Peter.
    Some more info: I basically want to get the coordinates of the objects in a placed file in the coordinate space of the containing document. As an extra twist, the placed file is a PDF created from an InDesign document. So, I first extract the coordinates from that InDesign file, then the coordinates for the document that contains the placed PDF, and finally I merge the coordinates of the two documents as if all the objects were contained in a single document. This workflow is then used outside of InDesign to draw frames around all the object boxes on a JPEG created from the document containing the placed PDF.
    Anyhow, to answer my own original question, this seems to work thus far:
    rectOffset = containingRect.resolve(AnchorPoint.TOP_LEFT_ANCHOR, CoordinateSpaces.PASTEBOARD_COORDINATES)[0];
    pdfOffset = pdf.resolve(AnchorPoint.TOP_LEFT_ANCHOR, CoordinateSpaces.PASTEBOARD_COORDINATES)[0];
    horzTranslation = rectOffset[0] - pdfOffset[0];
    vertTranslation = rectOffset[1] - pdfOffset[1];
    That gives the same values as I can see in InDesign when selecting the placed PDF. So far so good ...
    BUT, that is not enough! When placing a PDF using the default option of Crop to Bounding Box, I sometimes get a bit of extra margin (different for different documents) that offsets the translation values. I have no idea where this margin comes from but I need to compensate for it.
    Please help! And let me know if this description is unclear so I can try to explain better.

  • Acrobat XI PDF maker files missing

    Have just installed XI. I run Win7 and 32bit Office 2010. PDF export ribbon in showing in word and you can create pdf from this.
    The problem arises if you use the right click 'create pdf' function. More importantly, when using the merge multiple files to PDF function. In both cases it works ok with excel but fails on word (in the case of the merge multiple file function all other types f file go in but the word file fails)
    I get he message 'PDF maker files missing'. It suggests a repair that I have tried but that doesn't help.
    I have checked the COM add in isn't disabled. It's not.
    Just can't get this working. Help!!!

    Is it that none of the right click options are not working (Create PDF, Create PDF and Email or Combine only)?
    Try converting the word file by dragging and dropping the file to Acrobat interface/icon.
    Are you able to convert the word document to PDF from Acrobat Ribbon (Acrobat-> Create PDF) from within the word application?
    Is the issue with a particular word file or happening with all the word files?

  • Some PDF Documents are Missing Letters when Printing

    We use a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (64-bit) server as our print server. Ever since we moved our printers to this server, several of our existing PDF documents have missing letters when they print. If you modify your print properties and choose "Print as Image", the documents print correctly with no missing letters.
    The missing letters seem to come in specific combinations, such as ti, ft, fa, etc.
    Our previous print server was a Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) machine and these documents all printed fine on that server.
    Are there any known issues with printing PDF documents on a 64-bit print server, or with 64-bit drivers?
    Thank you for your time,
    Jason

    This response will hopefully help you towards a solution—I have not encountered the specific problem you are facing.
    The image you posted shows the fonts that are embedded in your document: both Calibri and Myriad Pro. However, the second instance of Calibri indicates that some some of the Calibri characters were encoded differently, and I suspect based on the combo characters you listed, these are glyphs and are what your printer is having trouble processing.
    The usual solution for print server issues is to make sure all drivers and firmware are updated.
    The answer to your question regarding embedding fonts completely is to change your Adobe pdf print preferences to embed all fonts, not just a subset. This must be done when the pdf is being created initially. You can change font embedding by choosing a joboption like Press Quality that includes full font embedding or by modifying the joboption you are already using. In Windows, you can do this at the time of print by selecting the Advanced button next to the printer selection dropdown and changing settings there, in advance by modifying the printing preferences from your printers menu, or by editing the joboptions in Acrobat Distiller.

  • Placed PDF made in Quark bug, InDesign CS4 XP

    Hi,
    I've just been bitten by the bug that causes characters to drop out when you create a PDF from an InDesign CS4 document that has a placed PDF made in Quark.
    Has it been resolved? I looked at the update notes to 6.0.2 and 6.0.3 and couldn't see anything about it.
    This is fairly urgent for me. If it hasn't been resolved, are there any workarounds?
    Thank you,
    Ariel

    You may be right... but it didn't seem relevant at the time, since I rarely receive Quark files, so I probably phased out.
    Anyway, the 6.0.2 for InDesign CS4ME does not fix the issue. I thought it might. And what a story it was to upgrade (which I just did this evening). Apparently, the 6.0.2 upgrade only works for a later build of IDCS4 (something like 6.0.0.421). I had the earlier build (something like 6.0.0.270). And the only solution was to completely uninstall InDesign, download the latest Demo on the Winsoft site (800MB. Took me around 2 hours). Install that. Then download the update and install that as well.
    And it didn't even fix the issue!
    The only positive side is that all my preferences survived the trauma intact!

  • Hyperlinks from placed PDF

    Hi
    Is there any ways to pick up hyperlinks from placed PDFand convert them to InDesign hyperlinks (or buttons)?
    Of course there´s no native text in placed PDF but converted hyperlinks could be for instance rectangles on the top of the original hyperlink.

    Please explain what you mean by "Buy for a 2011 card" and what you did before you saw that message.
    By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

  • Update pushed from Adobe for Acrobat X failed and now the "print to a PDF" option is missing. How do I get it back?

    Adobe pushed a security update to my computer and the update failed.  Now the "print to PDF" option is missing from all of my programs.  How do I get it back?
    Version X.1.12.

    Thanks.  That's exactly what I did, but from the Adobe help screen.  It did the trick, but I'm not very happy with Adobe for messing up my system.
    I appreciate your answering back.

  • Export to PDF Issue (SSRS 2012 with Integration SharePoint 2013)

    Problem Description: We have an operational report that returns around 43,000 records, based on a stored procedure.  The Stored Procedure itself runs pretty quickly (under ~15 seconds).The report renders in 20 seconds.

    Things Also Done
    1) I also tried exporting the report through excel and found no issues (it exports successfully and no issue when i open the file). The size of the exported excel (.xlsx) is 4.28MB. The timerendering value for export to excel is approx. 77 seconds.
    2) I also tried creating email subscription (PDF as the rendering format) for that report and it works successfully. The size of the attached PDF from the email is approx. 1.43 MB. I can also open that PDF file with no issue. And the size of the email with
    the attached PDF file is approx. 1.48 MB.
    That all said, we would like to seek for your assistance to determine what is causing the failure of exporting the report to PDF issue directly from the reporting site. (Let me remind you that the email subscription for the same report with attached
    PDF works with no issue)

    Hi roel2000,
    According to your description, you get error when exporting the report into PDF. It works properly when exporting in excel or PDF format within E-mail subscription. Right?
    In Reporting Services, the Excel and MHTML(e-mail subscription) render extensions are soft page break renderers. The PDF render extension is hard page break renderer. It has different render behavior between these two kind of renders. This might cause the
    error. Since we are not clear about your report structure, please refer to rules in the link below and do the troubleshooting.
    Rendering Behaviors (Report Builder and SSRS)
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Placed PDF with Layers - can layers be maintained and exported in a new PDF?

    Can a layered PDF placed in InDesign include these layers in the InDesign Layers Panel? I have a layered PDF created in Illustrator CS4. I'm placing it in InDesign CS4 6.0.4 and want to export a PDF with the layers in tact from Illy. I use the Show Import Options dialog box and can see all of the layers in the layers tab. I tried both options for update links so that choice seems unimportant. I only see one layer, Layer 1, in the InDesign layers panel after placing the PDF. I was expecting to see all of the layers from the placed PDF. I exported as Acrobat 6 with Create Acrobat Layers checked but the only layer in the exported PDF is Layer 1. I searched and read for quite some time and can’t figure it out. Maybe I’m expecting something that isn’t possible but it sounds like it should be. I tried placing it as a native AI file with the same results. Where am I going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Glenn

    Thanks to Bob and Peter. I understand what you said. It seems as though the ability to place a file with layers should allow you to take advantage of it better. This is a map that will allow users to turn on or off various points of interest, hotels, etc. Now I realize I can at least control them from the place dialog box so, other than having to place the same map multiple times I end up with what I wanted. Thanks for the soultions.

  • Indesign crashes when placing PDFs

    All,
    When placing PDFs in and Indesign file, it occasionally crashes. Usually when doing multiple pages, one at a time, some work and some crash.... although the ones that crash always crash and I cannot get them placed.
    The goal is to put the PDFs in the file and add text and/or images over the PDF.
    Solutions?
    Power Book Pro OS 10.8.5
    Indesign CS 6

    Eugene,
    Produced with IText 2.0.2 (by Iowagie.com), PDF version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
    However, some of the pages place just fine, and some crash every time. Suspect there's corruption on the crashing pages.
    Is there a way I could save the file in a different format or program and open that into Indesign?
