Placed SWF movie options

Using InDesign CS4, I've placed a SWF movie. In Object > Interactive > Movie Options, I chose to embed the movie in PDF, choose a JPG file as the poster, Mode: Play Once Then Stop, and turned on Show Controller During Play.
Exporting the InDesign document to PDF, choose the Smallest File Size preset, Compatibility: Acrobat 8, Include Interactive Elements, and Embed Multimedia.
The problems are that in the resulting PDF file:
the controller bar does NOT show
the movie loops repeatedly instead of playing only once
Can anyone help?

You could always use the Change Property behavior to swish
that layer
offscreen to the top left, e.g., change "top" to -10000 and
"left"
to -10000.

Placing SWF Movie into IDCS4 for export to PDF

I'm trying to place a swf into an Indesign document for export to PDF.
I made a simple swf using Flash CS4 (AS2 if it matters) and placed it using the File->Place menu.
I checked the Movie Options and selected, Embed in PDF, and play options.
Then I export to PDF and am sure that Interactive Elements is checked.
I found someplace that suggested toggling "create tagged PDF" to the opposite setting of whatever it is, but that didn't make any difference.
When I open the PDF with Acrobat and move to that page it just shows the default movie preview and shows a "buffering" window for ever, but the file is tiny so it should load immediately.
So how do I do this? Is it possible? I've tried some searches, but most everything I'm finding is about exporting ID docs to swf. And that isn't what I want.
At least I don't think this is what I want. I need to make a PDF that will have an animation of how to navigate a web app. So if anybody has a better way to do this, then please let me know!

The bottom line is:
It's a bug on the Mac
Windows users can play those SWFs but the Mac hangs
Adobe is aware of the problem
But if you want an SWF to play on both Mac and Windows, open the PDF in Acrobat Professional and add the SWF there.
You will actually have more control than if you had placed it in InDesign and it played correctly.

No .mov option in Export movie. Help, please!!

Hi there,
I am using flash professional, the newest version on Windows 8. I downloaded it a few days ago, and when I try to export the file as a movie there is no .mov option.
I have QuickTime downloaded, I've tried saying it as SWF and converting it but the conversion softwares don't work too well.
I downloaded QuickTime AFTER downloading Flash, should I reinstall flash?
Please please help!

Eltima SWF Movie Player for Mac 2.0

Hope this is the correct area for this - I'm trying to locate an older version of the above flash player - every site I try that has the version 2.0 always downloads the version 3.0 - which does not play on OS 10.2.8 but only OS 10.3
The older version - Eltima SWF Movie Player for Mac 2.0 - will play on 10.2.8 - so Iam trying to source this copy of SWF/FLV
can anybody help???

Hi Roam - thanks for replying.
I did find a substitute FLV player, for 10.2, at the URl below, but I was hoping the Eltima v2 might work even better than the J-VHS.
I'm sure someone will have a copy somewhere - there used to be mirror sites carrying all the old mac software that had lost popularity - but I can't locate it yet either.

Using the movie option

I have a .swf file. So I want it to show by clicking a button. I make the button and place>insert the .swf. I set for floating window and no frame. I just want to see the button on the page only. got the button settings the way I want them. then export to pdf. It works good except when I close the floating window there is a dotted box on the page and when the cusor is over it, it becomes a button to click the movie open again. And this box is quite large.
is there anyway to have the button only work to pop up the floating window with the .swf? and not have this residual large dotted box being in effect a button for opening the floating window?

ok here's what I have noticed. when I place>.swf on the page then the movie options box and select that I want no frame there is still a blue rectangluar box on the page outlining the .swf. So I can actually resize that box to be the same size as the button I made, that way after viewing the opened .swf movie and closing it the dotted box is the same size of the button and de facto becomes the button.
but still this can't be the way its suppose to work is it? after the first play I still have the dotted box around my button.

Setting postertype for placed SWF

I have a huge indd file with one placed SWF / page. Now I should toggle Play on Pageload checkbox on for every SWF and choose poster from the movie.
I know that I can do that by selecting SWF files one by one and setting those two things manually, but would it be hard to make a script that would do that? It would be a life saver....
I found the jacascript parameter MoviePosterTypes.FROM_MOVIE but I dont know how to use it... any help would be greatly appreciated....=)

RH 7 - How can I get .swf movies to work inside CHM output on Windows 7

Hi RHelpers,
I'm using RoboHelp Html (RH 7, latest patch) on my Win 7 64-bit machine to provide a HtmlHelp (CHM) output.
Now that we're close to releasing, I've been doing some testing, and I've noticed that my SWF movie files do not play inside of Windows 7 when viewing them inside of the CHM file. It keeps asking to install the Adobe Flash Player. But I've already clicked Yes several times to that message, and it still doesn't play the file. I've even manually downloaded and installed it as an administrator, restarted my system and still no go. It just shows a red X in the container where the movie should be playing.
However, viewing the same topic inside of RH's preview window (or inside a browser) seems to work fine. Also, I've copied and pasted the problem CHM onto a virtual machine running 32-bit Vista, and the movies display fine there. This tells me it's something to do with how how compiled files are handled in 64-bit environments.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions out there?

Also I verified that our software does use the 32-bit hh.exe so I'm only seeing this when running the help by itself, outside of our software. That's good news.

How do I enable the Move Option When Importing (It's Greyed Out)

I am trying to figure out why Aperture 2 does not ask to delete photos from camera (Canon SD950 IS) after import or why the "move" option is 'greyed' out. I have searched the forums here and have only seen people offer advice why this is not good. Not to be an A##, but I don't want advice. I need an answer to my question. How do I enable this functionality? I know that it is technically possible as the simple app "Image Capture" that comes with Leopard does exactly this.(Imports then Deletes from my camera) It's just that Aperture cost too much money in my opinion to force one to use an external app to do what you want done, especially since it is not a difficult function to perform as evidenced by aforementioned app in Leopard. TIA.

That's a bit draconian don't you think? Why have the option greyed out if you don't want the user to be able to do this. It's kind of like saying hahah, this is possible to do, but, you, the user, are a moron. Why even place the option on the page in the first place.

Again, why put it on page as an option if it weren't intended to be enabled in a plist somewhere for those who wish to be 'unwise.'
My logic is as follows: If Apple provides software that is more accessible to the 'unwashed masses' (because it's included with Leopard ie. Image Capture) and it deletes images directly from the camera, then why would a professional package (Aperture) limit the so called 'professional' from designing and using his/her own workflow governed by their own experience. Which could include first a backup to dvd or other device of your choice (keyword here: CHOICE) THEN import images and delete directly from the camera. Logically this is completely BACKWARDS, the app available to the 'masses'(Image Capture) should NOT let the user delete images directly from the camera and the 'professional' app (Aperture) should allow more flexibility for the advanced user who understands the implications of his/her work flow and adjusts accordingly.

Can an swf movie be opened on a specific frame?

When I call up an Flash-generated swf movie in its own
browser window via a navigation bar button, it always open on its
first frame. Is there a way to tell the browser in conjunction with
the getURL command to open at a specific frame other than frame 1?
I can't find an Actionscript code sample that allows this while
using getURL. Or is there some other way -- e.g. appending the swf
file with frame number in its HTML page in some way, using
Javascript, FSCommand, etc?

I think I figured out how to fix it-
I found that if I only delete a small amount at the beginning and at the end of the section that I want to remove - and then highlight that section - Then (and only then) does the "Delete and Move" function work to remove the unwanted section and automatically close the gap between the surrounding sections. I was trying to select a whole section and could only delete it - and then manually move it.
Problem solved.

Replace one swf movie with another

I have a flash movie on my web page and I have made some of
the text inside the movie into buttons. The movie only takes up a
portion of the page. I would like to replace the movie with another
movie when somebody clicks the button.
I'm sorry if this is a really basic question but I have spent
ages trying to find out how to do it and I keep getting an error
when I try to search this forum.

I have a swf file (sunnyserv.swf) that contains a pre-loader
and then opens another swf file (downturn.swf). The downturn.swf
contains the buttons that I want to listen to, and swap out the
movies.
If I open sunnyserv.fla in flash and test the movie, it loads
downturn.swf, listens to the mouse click and runs the
communication.swf movie (although it doesn't clear all of the
children from downturn.swf).
However, if I export all three movies and open my web page
nothing happens! If I change the xhtml to load downturn.swf that
works ok. Any idea why it would work in test movie but not when
loaded into an xhtml page?
Also, can you see a reason why all of the children are not
being removed in the commClickHandler function?

Unloading SWF movie

Hi,
I've been working on a CD-Rom presentation with Flash and so
far I was mostly using AS1 and AS2 to built it. I started to learn
some AS3 for a part of the presentation but now I'm running into
issue, here's the main one:
I'm loading different SWF movie one on top of the other, and
unloading them as needed, now this is very easy with AS1 (loadmovie
and unloadmovie function are simple to use), but when I'm loading
my file built with AS3 I can't figure out how to unload it. The AS3
movie is loaded on the Level 5, I just want to make sure that when
I'm unloading the file it's not unloading everything else.
Can anyone help me.

Problems with document flowing after placing a movie inline

I'm trying to place a movie inline and have the contents surrounding it reflow, instead when the movie is placed it overlaps all of the contents above it.
I'm placing a movie using the following code:
paragraph.insertionPoints[-1].place(File("c:\\users\\kurt\\desktop\\movie\\test.flv"));
And this is the resulting behaviour:
The odd part is that when I tested this against blank templates I had these results, which are the result I was hoping for. The surrounding paragraphs simply reflow to accomodate the movie.
Any ideas on why the other document isn't reflowing to the placed movie?

Just to make it a bit easier to refer to anchored object you could probably use
paragraph.insertionPoints[-1].words[0].allPageItems[0].anchoredObjectSettings.anchorYoffset = 10;
Not the best but unlikely to fail and easy.
If you were inserting an oval or the like you would just use.
myOval = paragraph.insertionPoints[-1].ovals.add();
myOval.anchoredObjectSettings.anchorYoffset = 10;
but you can't do that with placed images

Using loadVariables with nested SWF movies

I have a .swf with a dynamic text box that loads an external
text file. Using both loadVars and loadVariables I can see the that
text is loaded when i play just that file but when i nest the .swf
into a movie clip in a container movie the text doesn't appear.
I've used many different path and variable variations but with no
joy. The nested .swf is loaded using this syntax...
loadMovie("storyboard.swf",'_root.mainmask.inside_loader');
the syntax I'm using on the storyboard.swf movie to load the
text are variations on
loadVariables("news.txt" this);
I've tried playing with _parent and _root to get from the top
level of the container movie to the nested one but can't hit the
spot.

if you use loadVariables() (AND you correct your syntax) in
storyboard.swf, then you should check to see if the variables are
loaded before assigning their value(s) to the text property of your
textfield. if the textfield is on the same timeline that contains
the loadVariables code, you don't need to use an explicit path.
in any case, you can always use trace(this) on
1. the timeline where you want to put your code assigning the
text property and
2. on the timeline that contains your loadVariables()
statement and
3. on the timeline that contains your textfield.
with those three trace statements you can get explicit help
for the correct path if you're still having trouble.

Problem in importing swf movie
