Placeholder smartshapes as buttons?

In Captivate 7 is there a way to be able to create Placeholder Smart Shapes as buttons on master slides so that advanced actions can be attached to them? I can see that you can do it with Standard Objects, but the 'Use as button' option doesn't seem to be there with Placeholder Objects. I'd like to be able to create flexible master slides with advanced actions linked into objects which team members can then layout themselves e.g. move button areas around the screen. If I do this using Standard Objects, the buttons can't be moved. Thanks!

I'm beginning to see why you wouldn't use placeholders.The problem with using standard objects on master slides is that you can't then edit the objects (inlcuding changing the shape) or move them around in slides derived from them. I'm now experimenting with the use of template projects where I create my screen interaction tempates with associated advanced actions as actual slides, but linked to the master slides for styling only.

Hello does anyone know how to make an embed quicktime with a play button in the video frame so it has a poster frame and a button on it and wont play until it is clicked on

It's known as a poster movie. The first file acts as either a placeholder (or a button) that is linked to the second file.
You can use any image format to create your click to play "button" and add it to a single frame from your movie or to another image. Size this 16 pixels higher than your movie source file if you plan on showing the movie controller and save it as poster.mov.
Your html code will have this poster movie load and nothing further will happen until your visitor clicks on it. Once clicked the second .mov file will begin downloading and then playing. You can also use this poster movie technique to load a second movie directly in the QuickTime Player app.

How could I get a button in APEX 4 that triggers a Dynamic Action without submitting the page.... ??

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to update it with details on how you can make dynamic actions trigger based on template buttons being clicked. Currently support for buttons with dynamic actions is definitely not as easy as it should be, something we hope to address in a future release.
But for now, you can do this:
<ul><li>Go with Mark's approach of creating an 'attribute only' button template (with no link) (although you'll need to specify #BUTTON_ATTRIBUTES# not #ATTRIBUTES#). Something like:

Will there be any plans soon to support problematic captivate objects like smartshapes?

Currently there is no support for use of smartshapes as buttons in Adobe Captivate SCORM files. Are there any plans to fix this soon?

hi mjpettitt, i don't know enough about the particulars of your question to give a definite answer. however firefox is a webbrowser that aims to be standards compliant - it renders html an not any proprietary formats. so the long term "solution" of this problem would probably be for Captivate to generate output that complies with web standards...

Project freezes every time at same slide position on mobile devices.

(Using Captivate 6.1 on Mavericks running in 2014 iMac. This project contains 32 slides, some with audio (played using the advanced action for Play Audio), and some without, and it works well on desktop Mac and PC. It is published as SWF/HTML5, and the link from the webpage points to the multiscreen.html file.)
In spite of working smoothly on regular desktop computers, it's a different story in mobile devices. When tapping on the smartshape arrow button to advance to the next slide (from slide 5 to 6), the button's appearance changes to show that it's in the down/clicked position as expected, but it stays there and doesn't return to the up/unclicked appearance for anywhere between 3:11 to 3:30 on my iPad 4 (on an iPhone 4 running iOS 6 the screen doesn't advance even after 20 minutes). The slide doesn't advance to the next screen or go back to the previous one. Instead, the browser freezes (tried in Safari and Dolphin on tablet), meaning it won't go back, forward, add a tab, view another tab, etc. After the 3:00+ time period, the button that was in the down position completes the clicking action/sound, and then the browser and slide work properly. I can go back and forth over the problem location after that with no more freezing.
The consistent slide location where the concern occurs seems to suggest that it's not a broadband connection issue (or the delay would happen in other slide positions also). In trying to fix the problem, I deleted the slide where the problem was occurring, but the slide that filled in its vacancy (slide 6 became slide 5 after the deletion) caused the same problem. This leads me to think that it's nothing in the specific slide content causing the issue, but that it has something to do with the 5th slide position. The slides that were in the number 5 position have either text-only or a .png file, and the same smartshape navigation buttons as all the other slides so they don't use more resources than anything else. But, the temporary freezing acts similar to when something is hogging the resources of the browser. It doesn't hog the device resources though, because I can quit the app, or go to other apps during the freeze with no problem. But, after the initial freeze is passed, then there is no more delay at the problem-point or anywhere else in the project.
This pause isn't okay, because users will quit the project if they have to wait that long to advance to the next slide.
I'm at the end of my knowledge and ideas, and need help. Is there anything that I can try to remove this delay from mobile apps?

Why aren't my text captions being read by JAWS 14.0?

I need some help. I'm running Captivate 7 and I'm trying to make it accessible, specifically to JAWS 14.0. I've done some research and it seems as if I've followed all the steps necessary to achieve this, but when I view my project none of my images/text captions are being read.
To save some time here is what I've done so far:
Under File > Publish Settings > Publish Settings I've checked the Enable Accessibility box.
Under File > Project Info I've provided a Project Name and Project Description.
I've added accessibility text to each slide (Only seems to work when I publish to HTML 5).
While a text caption is selected I've chosen the Accessibility button in the Properties panel and gave it a name and description.
I've done the previous step with images and buttons as well.
The problem is that the text captions and images are not being read by JAWS 14.0, and don't seem to be part of the tab order. It seems like they are not even there as far as JAWS is concerned. Am I missing a step, or does Captivate not support this type of accessibility?

Text captions are static elements and hence they are not tabbable + not listed in TAB order Dialog.
For any static element (like Text captions, images, etc.), user need to use arrow keys to read them (when JAWS is used as screen reader)
All the interactive elements (like Buttons, Smartshapes as buttons), are tabbable and are listed in TabOrder Dialog.
Alternaltively, If you want your text items to be tabbable, you can use the Smartshape as Buttons.

No video on preview

I get no video when playing a preview of whenever I try to check the menu.

I have a similar problem - I have added a video background to a motion menu and I have rendered my motion menus, but when I preview I just get the still frame placeholder. The buttons with their highlight graphic work and link ok.
It doesn't play any sound from the video file either, but I assume this is intended. If I import the soundtrack of the video separately as an audio file I can hear the sound playing when I preview.
If I look in the project folder under Sources > Menus I find an mpg file that corresponds to the rendered preview. This video file is correct - it is my original video clip with the buttons rendered on top and it plays fine if I open it in Windows Media Player.
I have tried previewing with and without the 'automatic' option. Also, videos in the main timeline of my movie preview just fine.
I tried creating a new motion menu. In this one I even turned off the background layer entirely in Photoshop, in case that was somehow covering up the video. But as soon as I dropped the video in it made a new background, and this new menu also showed only a still-frame bg.
Other properties of the menu...
I have a Duration of 00:03:03:17 specified (this was set automatically from the length of my video clip)
I have the Loop Point set to zero
I have the Loop# set to 'Forever'
I have no End Action set
any ideas?

Workaround good/bad practice or does it not matter...??

I have a project that requires other shared actions to hide./show something and was wanting a quick workaround for Hide 1 show 9 so I did as follows..(bear in mind I am using CP7 not 8)
I copied my hide1 show 20 slide from another project, which retains the connection between buttons and images etc, but as this was too many for my other project, I just set things on the copied slide not to displlay in output etc adn then renamed the ones I wan to refer to in the new project adn it all works great, however, if wer are doing this is this bad practice as any other CP editor further down the track, needs to edit the project, might think that this is a mess and mish mash with ttoo many objects (although hidden) on the slide and maybe make it more difficult for them.
My initial thinking on that is while it may look a bit of a mess, My approach to any exising project is to deconstruct it to see exactly what is going on, but some otheres might just look at it as a real pain. (I did it this way as I could not edit a shared action in CP7)
So, I was just wantig to pose this question to the community and get any feedback on your thoughts about this approach...? (I hope I have explained this correctly and is understandable etc)

I would be interested in your workflow for editing shared actions.
Hopefully this will be clearer for my explanation of how I initially thought of for editing my shared action...please let me know if this is still not clear.
I had a Show 1 Hide 20 shared action, using smartshapes as buttons and aside from checkmarks (Ticks) and other images etc.
I needed to create another similar advanced/shared action, but did not have the time to do so, I needed to just change the existing shared action.
To do this, I copied the shared action to another project and tried to think of a way I can edit this just by changing the items on the slide. So I tested it out, by selecting a number of images/buttons and making the ones I did not need, to not be buttons and to not show in output, then just renaming the ones I wanted to show etc...
And it worked well, so I was happy with that outcome. It may have taken me a while to figure it out initially, but now I know it can be done :-)
The only negative that some of my colleagues have said, are as follows,with my response back to them.
Issue: The slide will be a mess as all those items/images are still on it. My response:You can hide the items not used so the slide will not look messy to another CP editor.
Issue: the images etc will make the file too big and unwieldy My Response: remove the images not needed and the file size will not be a problem.
Issue: File will be messy for another CP editor to change and take un-necessary time. My Response: Anyone who is a CP user, will/should know how to deconstruct and edit an existing file.
I hope that makes it clearer :-)

Embed a scrolltext in a mc

I have a flashfile called "start.swf" that loads other
swf-files into a mc with the instancename "placeholder" by
different buttons.
In a file called "mprint.swf". I want a dynamic textfield
(with the imprint information) to be loaded into placeholder". I
used the samplecode from Flash_ActionScript3.0_samples provided by
Adobe. The single "imprint.swf" works fine but I don´t know
how to manipulate the code for "imprint.swf", when it is nested in
"start.swf" Into which part of the code do I have to place
_root.placeholder?? Please help!

If the loaded swf is called "embedded.swf" (your mprint.swf)
and the text file for loading into it is "Loremipsum.txt", you can
create the top level file like this. The embedded.swf file simply
contains a text area with instance name my_scroller with an
attached scrollbar.

Twitter Bootstrap 3 -How do you make navbar not collapse-

I do not need my navbar to be adjust to the screen. I just want it to stay static. Is there any way this happen? Is there any way to make it easier for me to adjust the way that my navbar behaves in twitter bootstrap 3? I bassically would to have my navbar centered until the logo hits the left side, then just become static.

Motion Menus: Placeholder and button chaos

I am working on a menu for my DVD which includes a video background with the buttons included in it. Basically a car drives off the screen and I masked the video so when the car drives off screen the play and scenes text shows up in the street. I want the placeholder to be the last frame of the video and from what I can tell, Encore will set it to that point through the loop point. My problem is setting the two words up as buttons on that frame. I tried to edit at that point in Photoshop, but then when I preview it, only the last frame shows up and the video is no longer running. I'm not sure how far off I am here, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have rendered the motion menu, but my issue is in making the text from the original bg video my buttons. They don't appear until 22 seconds into the video. From what I read in the help, it says that you have to make those frames your place holder and to do that you have to set the loop point as such. I did that and then tried to do a subpicture in photoshop, but when I come back into Encore and preview, it only shows me the placeholder frame and the BG video doesn't run.

Positioning a picture placeholder generated by a button

Hi. Have built a form in LiveCycle to be completed via reader. Has buttons to add optional repeating 'Opportunity' subform.
Within this subform there is a button to generate an additional picture placeholder subform.
Problem is can generate 'Opportunity' subforms (2, 3 etc) but additional picture placeholder always appears in first instance of opportunity subform regardless whether generated from button in (say) opportunity subform 3.
Phew!
Maybe easier to have the whole file?
No option to upload here anymore?

That's the code. Can add a new subform 1 fine.
If I then generate a new pic in the second instance of subform 1 it places the pic in the first instance of subform 1.

How do I get a smartshape button that open the TOC and pause the project when it is selected?

Please help! I created a smartshape button and assigned it the action of making the table of contents visible when clicked. However, now I also need the project to pause when the TOC button is clicked. Can someone please guide in as to what I need to do? Thanks

Please follow the below steps.
1) Create an advanced action with the action "Show TOC"
2) Insert a smart shape and use it as button
3) Execute the advanced action on success of the shape button.
In the published output, movie will not continue on clicking the shape. Please let me know if it solves your issue.

Transparency not working on smartshape button filled with transparent (PNG) image.

I'm using Captivate 8 and have had no problems so far importing PNG images with transparent backgrounds.....that is until I try and make a smartshape button and import a transparent PNG image as the background.
It displays fine on screen, but whenever I preview it or publish, the white background of the image/button displays. Is this a known Captivate 8 limitation?
Sorry if this is a repeated question....I've tried trawling through the forums and all I can see is to try different file formats for the images, such as GIF or BMP, which I've tried and nothing works.
Any advice or suggestions?

If it is a button, what is inserted for Rollover and Down state? I just recreated a shape button, with three different images for the states. All are in one PS-file as layers which I imported into Captivate. I kept Stretched checked in this case, because I know there is sometimes a slight change in size between states. Here are screenshots of Up, Rollover and Down state. The stroke was set to 0 for the shape, but to prevent all color contamination I also set stroke to the color of the background (light grey). In the first (Up) image you can clearly see where the stroke is due to truncation of the Question mark.
Seems only possibility is in the creation of the PNG's? What was your work flow?
