Placeholder text won't disappear + template doesn't update

Hi,
I'm using the latest iBook author version (2.2) on Yosemite.
I selected a text as a placeholder, but when I type my new text, it doesn't disappear. I've already created many sections using this template and I don't want to recreate them all over...
Also, it seems like the modifications I have made in my template, even though I save them, don't apply, like the template is not updated. I tried to right-click on the template to select "reapply to layout section" but I don't have access to it.

Have you tried to give it a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and see if the badge is still there.

Template doesn't update nav buttons

Hi, Having a problem getting my template to update the spry menubar links. Spent a lot of time on the template to get it right. The banner and navigation buttons are part of the template. So here's what I did....after creating and saving the page as a .dwt file I then created a page from template, the update links box was checked. Once opened I save it as index.html added my content, saved, published and continued the same way for the other pages. The pages look fine but none of the nav buttons work. Don't know what to do. Any suggestions. Using Dreamweaver CS4

Template doesn't update properly

Last July, we converted our website from GoLive to
Dreamweaver. Now, for the first time since our conversion, I had to
make some changes on the template and there's a problem on the
updated pages.
The problem is that the navigation is not working properly on
many (not all) pages updated with the template. The nav works fine
on the template itself. The template ("template.dwt") is in the
Templates folder.
The specific nav problem is that on rollover, the white
subheadings do not show. Only an image icon shows. This problem
occurs with the files located in a folder WITHIN a folder.
For example:
VSSC/contact.html: nav works fine
VSSC/News/books.html: doesn't work (white subheadings don't
show)
I see the code pointing to the image is the same for both of
these pages even though one is a folder within a folder:
VSSC/contact.html:
'../images/navigation/espanol_topics/libroso.gif'
VSSC/News/books.html:
'../images/navigation/espanol_topics/libroso.gif'
The code before I updated with the template was:

Is this making any sense? Is there a quick fix to this? In
other words, a preference setting to check before updating the

Saving Template doesn't update pages

I just made changes to my template, saved it, and the connected pages are not updating. The FAQ say's to select the 'Update' button, which I can't seem to find.
Any suggestions?

File extension is .dwt
Not exactly sure of your 2nd question. I only have one web site I work with. I’m quite the novice. But I think the answer to your question is yes.
The .dwt file is located within my Templates folder of the site

For example: here's a page updated from the template:

This page is in a folder WITHIN a folder and as you can see, there
is a problem with the main navigation at the top. On rollover of
the subtopics, the orange buttons should appear white, and they
don't.
The template nav works fine:

That would be it, Nate. DW cannot manage links embedded in
javascript, EVEN
INCLUDING THOSE IT WRITES!

Dreamweaver CS6-updating template doesn't update pages, update screen hangs

I'm working with a dwt file provided with shopping cart software which I purchased from a third party developer. I've made changes on the main.dwt provided to personalize it for my business. To begin with, everything seemed to be going smoothly, but then at some point, updating the template stopped updating the pages dependent on it, unless the pages are actually open in Dreamweaver. Even when the pages are open, however, the "Update files dependent on" box seems to hang. If I click "close" it asks if I want to stop updating the site. It's very cumbersome to have to open every page in the site in order to get the changes in the template to propagate to the pages. I'm running CS6 on Windows 7 Home Premium. My site is not yet published, so I can't provide a link to it. It's still on the drawing board.

Is the .dwt template file still within the Dreamweaver generated Templates folder in your site root?
index.html <--your site's home page
Templates <-- the Templates folder on same level as site home page
yourtemplate.dwt <-- your .dwt file
If it's not, that can cause all kinds of problems in DW.

Placeholder text doesn't seem to be working -- please help

I can create a textbox on a section page in the layout section. I have added and enabled some placeholder text in it. I've applied the changes to affect the other section pages in my book. Those section pages get the new textbox and placeholder text but nothing is selectable to change.
I feel like I have tried every combination of enabling box and text, just text, just box but still nothing is selectable on the section pages that I want to make different captions for.
Can someone please help me understand how to do this?

Its not a problem..... points mean nothing really, the only thing I care about is being able to offer a suggestion that works and removes the worry and stress of facing a situation without somebody - metaphorically - at your side to put the smile back.

Trying to understand the default TEXT boxes in the templates?

Sometimes the default text boxes in a template cannot be deleted. It's as if they act as spacers ... for example a 'title' text box that if dragged down makes the page longer. A 'normal' text box doesn't do this, and it can be deleted.
I'm customizing a template. I customized a particular 'blog' main page. Then I wanted to make another similar 'blog' main page (this site will need three different blogs). I created another page using the exact same template ... and notice an extra text box (spacer?) that can't be deleted, and that seems to have disappeared from my original customized page - even though I CAN'T delete it from the new customized page. Very confusing.
What are those template text boxes that seem to be controlling space holders, and how should I use them properly?

well In Quark Express as as wrote earlier, that you can see other text frames highlighted immediately, after you select any of the text frame among the threaded text frames, say there are 5 text frames which are threaded together, even if I click on 2 nd or say 4th text frame, it shows me all the text frames highlighted which are threaded together, so If I am working in a catalog which has multiple pages, it's easy for me to see which text frames are threaded together, as if you make any text changes, say add or delete text in a text frame, the other text frames get affected by that. I mean text shifts accordingly, it's easy to track in Quark which text frames will get affected if I change something in a threaded frame.
Anyways, it seems this option is not available in In Design. That's fine. I am not in preview or Overprint previed mode.

Try:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If you still have a problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
I do not know what a "master reset" is.

XML: Using static & placeholder text inside element with children?

I’m working with simple XML data with the following structure:
Root
     Row
          Company_name
          Physical_address
          Phone
          Website
          Email_address
     Row
          Company_name
          Physical_address
          Phone
          Website
          Email_address
etc.
The row element will be repeated many times. In setting up my InDesign document I’d like to use static text within each Row element. What’s confusing me is where I should use the Row tag. I’d like my imported XML data to run as continuous text, thus:
Company: placeholder text
Address: placeholder text
placeholder text
placeholder text
placeholder text
Company: placeholder text
Address: placeholder text
placeholder text
placeholder text
placeholder text
I tried setting it up like this, with the parent text frame given the Root tag:
<Row>Company: <Company_name>placeholder text</Company_name>
Address: <Physical_address>placeholder text</Physical_address>
<Phone>placeholder text</Phone>
<Website>placeholder text</Website>
<Email_address>placeholder text</Email_address></Row>
…but when I import my XML file I lose all my static text and each child element is indented more than its parent element. I would guess that by placing my static text within the Row tag it gets replaced when each Row element is imported, but where else would I place it? Do I have to create anchored text frames (tagged with Row) within the Root frame to hold each Row element?
I’d appreciate any insights.

OK, I’ve figured out the first problem. I just needed to play around with the options in the dialogue that comes up when importing XML. Specifically, the “Do not import contents of whitespace-only elements” needs to be checked. I still don’t see why that should affect whether or not my static text stays in place.
Now, my new question is this: It looks like all the child elements of a container element have to appear in the document in the same order in which they appear in the XML file. Is this right? If I swap my Email_address and Website tags around in my placeholder text, either the email address disappears or it appears at the end (depending on the options I select in the dialogue upon import). So if I want to change the order in which they appear I have to do so in the XML file as well?

Email notification icon won't disappear

Dear Nokia Team,
I use my 5800XM to read my emails on my Gogglemail-Account via Mail for Exchange.
I got the common problem, that the "new mail"-notification icon on the top-right corner of the screen won't disappear, although all emails ar marked as read and my mail-inbox doesn't count more then 100 mails.
This thread says, that the only way around this issue is to hard reset the phone. I did a hard reset on my phone an everything seemed to work just fine, but the issue returned after a few days.
This bug is really annoying - please help me!

Control bar won't disappear during video

The control bar that is at the bottom of the screen when video is maximized won't disappear. It's very annoying! A couple of itunes versions back it would disappear after a couple seconds or so. Now it won't. Any ideas on how to make it start disappearing?

My tabbed browsing bar won't disappear..

The problem is that the tabbed browsing bar won't disappear up on my mac book air when I have more then one side opened at the time.
I am new with mac so i don't know how to solove this at all

Tab to placeholder text

Hi, I hope someone can help me! I am creating a custom template and need to figure out how to be able to tab to the placeholder text (just being able to tab to each section without having to click on each placeholder). Also, is it possible to make the placeholder become longer if I need more space to type, without making the the rest of the words in the document move?

Thank you - so basically I can't tab to each placeholder, like I would on a "boiler plate" type document. I will play around with the floating box - my goal is to be able to type in the placeholder text box without making other text move around, which changes the whole document.
There MUST be a way to "lock" the text box, or make a box that can be tabbed to! I know it can be done in Windows, but the whole point is to get away from Windows (which I have to use at work). Just had a thought - maybe I can create the template in Windows and mail it to myself and then save it to pages, and then I can tab to the text box? Basically it is a questionnaire that I use for work and want to be able to do it as fast as possible.

After the restore did the phone work properly for a while? Say, a day or so?
If so it is possible you have an app that doesn't let go of memory properly. I reboot my iPhone ( hold sleep/wake and hole till you see the apple logo) every few days. This resets the memory. The iPhone OS has doesn't seem to mange memory very well yet. So a reboot will help with that. I have had my phone almost slow to a stop before I started rebooting. Always reboot after installing a new app. Also do you close all pages in Safari when you are done? This is a good practice. Safari will run in the background and use processor time and drain your battery quicker. Create a new blank page then close all others when you are done browsing for a while. I have also found that certain web site that have animated images like weather maps will turn the phone into molasses. As soon as i close that page it gets faster.
If all of the above have no effect then as Tamara said it is time for a trip to the Genius bar.
