Placement Strategy : Open Storage

Dear All,
Appreciate it if you could shed light / clear doubts on the matter below:
1. For placement strategy Open Storage, is it a must to use it with storage section ?
The design is not firm yet -- in the event, i have a storage type 100, and plan to activate with this placement strategy, is it a must to use / have storage section ?
2. Take for example, under storage type 100, i only have 3 bins, with placement strategy Open Storage.
How will system propose the bins for storage ?
The Next Empty bin strategy, will always proposed the next available empty bin. So, how does Open Storage strategy works then?
3. SUT. Don't plan to activate SUT, for the Open Storage strategy.
What will be the implication on the warehouse without ths ?

Kindly read WM basics availble widely over Internet. You could also go through help.sap.com
Well how SAP determines BIN :
1) You have maintained storage types / storage section & Bins are available
2) You have created storage type Indicators & data maintained in Material Master WM1 / WM2
3) You have defined the serach sequent against Indicator (Storage type & Storage section)
When TO is getting created system serach for the storage types mapped against the Indicator maintained in material master
If storage section is activated system tries to serach for available BIN in Storage type & Storage section.
If BIN not found system jumps to next storage type + storage section combination . This is how it works.
Now in your case yu have 3 Bins ..001 , 002 , 003
For exmple you have material 1100 , 2200 , 3300
Storage type 100 (Open storage) ,200 , 300 etc & storage sections in 100 are 001 , 002 , 003
Storage type Indictor XXX & storage section Indicator Y01 , Y02 , Y03 is created.
You need to do the way described below.
For material 1100 maintain XXX & Y01 , 2200 : XXX & Y02 , 3300 : XXX & Y03
In Customisation storage serach sequence : XXX = 100 , 200 ,300 etc.
storage section search Y01 = 001 , Y02 = 002 , Y03 =003
Storage section check is activated for storage type 100
Whenever Material 1100 will come system will always propose BIN 001 This is irrelevant of number of postings , you can create as many postings , if you try to take the material in 002 Bin , system will not allow unless you make chnages either in Material Master or in customisation.
Say if Material 4400 can go in any section you can maintain Blank entry at storage section in Materil master & define one more sequnce in customisation ...."Blank "= Y01 , Y02 , Y03 . With such combination always BIN 001 will be proposed but you can overrite those values & take the material in any BIN with appropriate combination.

Hello,
You are right. Normally it does not hurt, but what you are doing with the new process change contradicts your original design. Can you explain why you had storage sections in the area in the original design? Did you segregate SKU's by product families/fast movers etc....and now you dont have that requirement anymore or your SKU management has changed?

I think that in this strategy is also possible to define more than a single storage bin for a storage section.....or not?

I cannot tell you why it is explained in this way, even the German explanation does not give any hint.
Open storage putaway strategy is the most used in my implementations and I can confirm that you can have hundreds of bins in one storage section.

Open storage is a type of warehouse organization in which you define a single storage bin for a storage section. Normally if it a large area with one (or more) storage sections.
Materials that occur in large quantities and generally take up a lot of space in storage are often stored in bulk storage. Mainly it is used for Reduced need for physical storage bins, Fast access to the trading units, Clear structuring of the warehouse (into blocks and rows)
This putaway strategy searches for storage bins in bulk storage.

Bulk:
Warehouse without shelves where similar pallets or containers are stacked.
The storage bins in bulk storage are separated by lines on the floor. Each bin can store only one material, for example, cases of 1 liter bottles of orange juice.
The SAP System provides a strategy for bulk storage.
Open:
Type of warehouse organization in which only one storage bin is defined for each storage section.
The quants in the bin conform to mixed storage.

TO Split for open storage works?

I'm using weight and volume for TO split and it works fine, except for open storage where it seems to ignore the limits.
Is there any exception that says TO split doesn't work in open storage?

As suggested by Mihailo there is no separate code written for Open strategy. You can take the help of development team to get more idea, Find below the perform (solldaten_position_ermitteln) detail where system read the detail where system read the split related data and pass further for execution

Please do the inventory check for the whole bin.Count the each quant of the material. Difference can be cleared.Use following transactions.
1.LI01N-Create Inventory document.
2.LI11N-Enter inventory count.
3.LI20-Clear WM differences
4.LI21-Clera IM differences.

If you think you're insane now, try maintaining those pop up menus.
As far as I know, these menus have not been updated since FW 8, so
they are at least two versions old.
Save yourself a lot of grief by avoiding those menus. There are many
other products on the market which do a much better job of creating
and maintaining this type of navigation structure.

There was another blog post by the fellow who originally wrote the pop
up menu feature, but I can't seem to locate it. Even he says stay away
from them.

Open Storage error 2258

Im trying to write a VI to write some data to a TDMS file, and this is my first time using the TDMS commands. I have the "Open Storage", "Write" and "Close Storage" commands all wired up, but my VI never runs because the "Open Storage" express VI comes up with error 2258 saying the file cannot be opened. The file it is trying to "open" does not exsist, but I have tried the overwrite opens with create, open or create, and create or replace and it still always has the same error. What causes this?

Does the folder you're writing to exist? I haven't used the TDMS VIs, other file write VIs can create a file but not a folder.

[MATE] Places menu opens Nautilus

I have both MATE (fork of Gnome 2), and Gnome 3 installed. In MATE, the places menu opens Nautilus 3, but the desktop icons open Caja (MATE's fork of Nautilus 2).
How can I fix it so that both the desktop and the places menu open the file manager (I'd prefer Nautilus 3)?

SAP WM-Stock Placement Strategy "P"

Hi Gurus
While using stock palcement strategy "P" "by storage Unit Type" we are dividing bins to section like
Stoarge Type Section   No of itms
231                 A               3                 1       2     3
is this code need to append to the storage bin co ordinate
like 002-001-A/1 002-001-A/2    002-001-A/3
If so when i create the storage bin co ordinate through Ls01n by defining the Storage bin co ordinate as 002-001-A/1 system throw error "The special character "/" must not be used in the storage bin name".
How to solve this ,pls explain the stock palcment through startegy "P" ,where to mention the bin section in the bin coordinate.

I suppose you have maitained capacity check for the storage type 231 .
Based on the SUT's and u r strategy P, the system will allcate the numbers.
usually if there are two SUt's ina a bin where it belongs to the storage type 231 then the bin will have 001-02-A/2
the special characters gets assigned after the placement.

Issue: Purchase order release strategy with storage loaction.

I have created release strategy for purchase order considering following characteristics.
1. Plant
2. Purchase organization
3. Purchase group
4. Document type
Hence the release strategy is working fine.
Now the requirement is changed, PO approves should be picked depending on the storage location wise. So i tried to create characteristic for storage location with table name CEKKO and with field LGORT. However system not allowing to create, telling that field LGORT not found in table CEKKO.
Can any one tell me how to maintain this LGORT filed in structure CEKKO.

I have Appended a structure to Standard Structure CEKKO with Field LGOBE.
Also we written the code :move: i_cekko = e_cekko, in user User-Exit M06E0004 function exit
FUNCTION EXIT_SAPLEBND_002.
However, the release strategy is not triggering when PO is saved,
also the user-exit is not getting triggered , even though i have included the statement ' Break-Point'
in it.

hi..i just got a sit file for a program to be used in logic pro 7.2...how do i open it or where do i place it?...can anyone assist?

.sit files are kind of like .zip files in the way that they are compressed data. You need stuffit expander, which I think comes with every Mac to open them, and then the original file will be placed on your desktop, or wherever you tell it to.

Where's the drop-down with "Recent places" in "Open File" dialogue?

Until Mountain Lion, all "Open file" dialogue boxes included at the top a drop-down list with higher-level locations as welll as "recent places" - folders that were recently used to open files.
In apps such as Smultron, this is hugely efficient and I would say the vast majority of the file I open, I access via that drop-down.
Now, in apps that support iCloud, the UI of the "Open file" dialogue has changed significantly - with that drop-down now completely missing!!!
I am actually really really upset about this feature being removed. Is there ANY way to bring it back? I waste so much time now in opening files, it's ridiculous.

Wierdly the only way I have found to bring this essential piece of the open file dialog box back is to disable icloud "Docuemetns & Data". Then hey presto the view controls are back on the top and the drop-down returns.
...but you don't have icloud documents any more
Sounds like a wierd omission in Mountain Lion if you ask me. I use that drop-down all the time...

Stock placement strategy via user exit

Hello,
I'm tring to change putaway strategy by using a user exit.
In customizing i enter:
Logistics Execution u2013 Warehouse Management u2013 Strategies u2013 Putaway Strategies u2013 Define strategy for fixed bins.
Table V_T301S.
When i enter one of the movements i can put V next to User exit act.
How can I make the connection between the strategy and the user exit?

Hi,
In the ST masterdata (config: WM - Masterdata - Define ST) you must activate the User Exit field for putaway and/or removal for the specified ST you want to use with a user exit. See view: V_T3010-USEIN or Table T331-USEIN. When this indicator is set and you go through the TO creation log, you will see that at some stage there will be an entry where is states that you are using an user exit to place/pick stock.
